    Personally, my favorite video game (and that I haven't played a few). Its world is complex, with interesting characters and a good plot. Quite interesting and memorable, worth a try even if you don't like RPGs or games with more text than dialogue. There are parts where the text is overwhelming, yes, but it's still a game that holds a big place in my heart.

    If you like story/character/heavy questions about the shape of society and the world at large then you should try it.
    Sense of humour is required.

    Holy moly. What a game. One of the greatest role playing experiences in video games. It's gorgeous as well. At it's heart it is a detective story, but the world building is so fully realized you can get lost in every corner of the game. It's dense, dark. funny, and actually has something to say. Check it out!!!!

    that was the most interest walkthrough of the game - i dropped this game 2 or 3 times on different period of time (few months i guess) but every time i came back to dive into this perfect masterpiece of game development. so, lest first talk about minuses of this game because on my mind there only two minuses. first one in some part of this game dialog is kind of protracted (and this is thethat was the most interest walkthrough of the game - i dropped this game 2 or 3 times on different period of time (few months i guess) but every time i came back to dive into this perfect masterpiece of game development. so, lest first talk about minuses of this game because on my mind there only two minuses. first one in some part of this game dialog is kind of protracted (and this is the main reason why i dropped this game few times) and the second one is: *SPOILER ALERT* your investigation partner leave you and you have ability to complete some quests but when your partner back to you he knows exactly what are you did although you don't tell him (on my mind it's kind of strange). *SPOILER ALERT ENDS*. so, this it. it all minuses what i found. all other aspects are solid pluses. first and one of the main is a plot - it's interest, funny, dramatic, instructive, sarcastic, serious and all of it in one flacon. second one is perfect art style of the game. the game is painted with oil paints and this first time while i saw it and i actually love it. system of skill check is another grate plus. disco elysium give you ability to build your own character. coming out of the character build you have different answers in dialogs or different activities in game world. but let's talk more about activities game have a lot of it and all have huge number of ways that player can solve it (all puzzles or quests have something like 2-3 ways of solving). so summarize all of it who will enjoy DISCO ELYSIUM? probably that person who have ability to read o lot of text, i mean REALLY large amounts of text. or that person who in love with all this romantic of drunk detective things. what about me? i really enjoyed process, and when i completed the game i thought it was really good pastime.… Expand

The story starts slow but rapidly captivates you. Your primary goal is to solve a murder and the game helps you relatively well regarding the next step towards your goal. The game will hit you with a lot of surprises (some good and some not really) and it's your job to make the best out of the situation. These decisions will make a big difference for the rest of the game and this game really encapsulates this mechanic like few do. Luck and interacting with the world are the main factors for the gameplay which is not my favorite, you could even say that luck is so important in this game that if you're really unlucky you could have a bad time in this game, which fortunately didn't happen to me (except when I tried the hardcore mode). Despite that it was still really clever on how to approach those two mechanics and bringing them together to capitalize on what I consider to be a success formula. There are also other interesting correlations of the world in the game with our reality that are cleverly incorporated in the game. In conclusion, Disco Elysium really takes a step further in creativity with rich ideas, characters, role-play and story-telling, where the player is actively rewarded for exploring and being a bad-ass detective.… Expand

После последнего обновления очень улучшилась работа игры, разработчикам респект. Из минусов можно отметить порой затянутые описания предметов или событий (но это очень субъективно).Хорошая текстовая игра.     Игра конечно балдеж. Крутая и атмосферная.

    Прикольный сеттинг и стильная рисовка. Тут что-то типа стимпанка, но довольно самобытный сюжет со своей вселенной и миром. Все достаточно научно-фантастично и без магии, что мне очень понравилось. Отличный саундтрек, амбиент сильно запоминается и способствует атмосфере.     В игре очень много интересных и остроумных диалогов. Местами диалоги смешные. Местами очень смешные.

    Стоит упомянуть отличную проработку почти всех персонажей игры. Практически все запомнились. А Ким вообще один из лучших напарников, которых я видел в играх.

    Вообще игра мне видится как интерактивная книжка, где можно влиять на события.

    I've heard this is a great game from people I trust. However, the Devs are communists. For real. Now they are rich communists, and I haven't heard anything about how their money is going to the proletariat. Nothing about how they haven't bought houses. Property is violence, remember.

At the end of the day its a point and click adventure game as other reviewers have pointed out. The soundtrack is outstanding. Main issue with the game is that you'll find yourself saving and reloading on various rolls that you need to do to pass certain checks. This is the only way how you can experience the massive charm this world has to offer. Despite that, the game still is very enjoyable and I'd highly recommend it anyone that's nerdy or enjoys a wacky story! I look forwards to seeing what the game director does next.… Expand

But the best thing about this game is it let's you roleplay any way you want without punishing you. Wanna be a drunken, drug addicted cop who has completely given up on life, you can do that.     If talk about graphics are not so good also the response time is hard to understand sometimes and talk about audio in the background is pretty much good , difficulty inceasing at different types of levels like if the roleplay you want to change take more time versus refilling the bullets in gun.

    GAMEPLAY
    The gameplay remains exactly what you know and love but the graphics and move sets have been updated for current consoles. This game has some similarities to Hades, they are comparable but they are still very different. This game is deeper, there's a parry button, stamina bar, and all of it worked so well and it's addicting as hell.
    The biggest grudge I have with this game is the bosses and weapons variety. There isn't really much weapons that really differentiate from 1 another but it is still really good to play. The bosses are pretty easy in Tier 1 but on Tier 2 it really starts to get hard. Some punishments you get (corruption) isn't exactly all bad and some just does wonders for the player but I think that was intentional. But that's pretty much the only thing I would call a negative this game has.

    The writing, the story, the world building and the voice acting in this game are just sublime - it sets a completely new standard for video games, in my opinion. The inner dialogue and subconsciousness constantly chattering away and giving you good or bad advice based on your stats are a thing of beauty. Very original, and a joy to explore. All the characters in the game are interesting

I say this because in order to fully appreciate the experience on offer, you must allow yourself to get immersed. Mind you, the games narrator Lenval Brown, makes this an easy    If watching a trailer or review of Disco Elysium leaves you even remotely interested in this game, buy it.

    The dialogue is smart and well-written, rewarding those that engage with it fully and take the time to listen. Personally, I would have preferred a portion of the games main story beats to take a slightly different path, and found some dialogue sections feeling a bit convoluted, however this does not take away from the overall experience of the game.

    I must admit that seeing the end credits of a game has become somewhat of a rare occurrence these days, with many games feeling bloated and uninspired, however Disco Elysium kept my attention throughout, all the way to the end.    … Expand

    I really tried to like this. The voice and dialog is top notch. The concept is brilliant. There is nothing negative I would say about this title. But, for some reason I just could not get into it. Maybe it was the leisurely pace. The dialog with characters is seemingly never ending.
    So I would say, it's not my cup of tea but for those who relish a story rich atmosphere, this game nailed it.

    It would been so much better with a better soundtrack though. Also I came across a very few audio bugs in the dialogues.

All the characters in the game are interesting and well designed (Klaasje a personal favorite), the music score gives off strong Twin Peaks soundtrack vibes, which obviously isn't a bad thing.

    There are quite a few negatives as well though - the story drags out a bit too much at times, and wandering around the relatively big map is a bit of a drag at times - it can be hard to get an overview of where you have been and where you haven't. Fast travel is unreliable at best, and for large parts of the game simply doesn't work. I also expected the choices you took in the game to have much more of an impact on what happened to you in the game, but the rather large dialogue trees pretty much lets you get away with saying anything to anyone, and you'll often find yourself just exhausting every option just to progress (and sometimes you have to). This was the biggest letdown of the game for me, having read much about the game beforehand about how much the choices you took impacted the game. It really doesn't.

    Overall though, a very original game that I'd easily recommend to anyone into RPGs or point n' click or murder mystery games. Brilliant writing.    … Expand

    Oyunun geçtiği dünyanın sosyoekonomik durumu çok iyi yansıtılmış. Herifler üşenmeyip uzun uzun tarih yazmışlar. Oyundaki tüm ideolojiler ve yapılanmalar kötüye kullanılıyor, yozlaşmış ve bunlarla dalga geçiliyor. Siz de iş çözme niyetinde olan birisi olarak bazen istemeye istemeye bunlarla işbirliği yapıyorsunuz.

    Oyunda aldığınız kararlar, eylemleriniz, bulduğunuz şeyler, birisiyle belli bir diyaloğu gerçekleştirmiş olmanız falan sonraki olayları epey derinden etkiliyor. Diyaloglar da bu bakımdan çok çeşitleniyor. Oyun text olarak sizin eylemlerinize karşılık veriyor.

    Beğenmediğim bazı şeyler var. İlki perk sistemi. Saatlerce beklediğiniz bir geliştirmenin istatistiklerinizi olumsuz etkilediğini ve bunu silmek için beceri puanı harcamak gerektiğini görmek can sıkıcı.

    İkincisi zaman geçmiyor. Diyaloğa girmediğiniz sürece zamanı ilerletmenin bir yolu yok. Sırf bu nedenle kayıp silahımı almak için buluşmaya gidemedim.

    Bazen aynı yerleri tekrar tekrar yürümek sıkabiliyor. Bir de nesnelerle etkileşime geçmek problemli, karakterin belli bir noktaya gelip orada durması gerekiyor.

    Neticede bazılarının dediği gibi tarihin en iyi rpg'si mi emin değilim. Dedektiflik oyunları pek hoşuma gitmediği için o kadar sevmemiş olabilirim ama yine de iyi oyun.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disco Elysium has its ups and downs. However, I would like to mention that I have had the pleasure of curving towards its upsides. This title is incredible for players who fancy a bit of reading during their gameplay, as well as a tint of mystery, and, surprisingly, human relationships. If one is that type of person, then I would genuinely recommend them to try this game out, and if it turns out not to be their cup of tea, I would understand it, truly. In my humble opinion, the game's main plot makes a lot of sense, and is mostly captivating, if not for the quite rash, and seemingly lacking ending it ends up with. It might be just my impression, but oh well. The dialogues feel really solid. Every single character in the world of Disco Elysium feels different. Everyone has their own motives, as well as some biases. It only adds on to the experience. So, overall, I would recommend this game, if only to try it out just for an hour or two. I did, and I fell in love with it. 8/10… Expand

    Decent game. But not sure what i walked into and was getting kind of bored by the inner monologue all the time after a few hours. Do NOT expect any action or great mechanics in this game. Do expect interesting dialog (and monologues), a weird and exciting alternate universe and some good voice acting.

The political ideologies in the game are stupid. Thinking private companies should follow the law is considered "Fascist", it borders on Communist propaganda. Nazi ideology in real life is actually no different then Communist ideology, one just makes things about race while the other makes it about a Marxist definition of class. Where they always portray the Communists as the good guys even though they are clearly the bad guys. They even force you at times to work with the Commies even though you don't want to. They also force you to change clothes mid conversation just to pass checks. Even though some checks in the game are impossible. They also punish you for playing a nazi, by taking your health or morale away from you, which again reeks of the game developers smelling their own farts and trying to force you into certain decisions. If you are just going to punish players then why have the option of playing nazi. If you can get over the Commie propaganda and just play the game for what it is. It isn't bad. But it isn't game of the year material. It is a okay story visual novel game.… Expand

And the promise of the excellent personality system is not utilized whatsoever.

    The story, the world, the writing are pretty good for video games. For video games. It hardly reaches levels of classical literature. And it often strikes a tone that repulses me. I like the focus on politics, and its handles with subtlety, though again underutilized to say anything particularly meaningful.

    Overall, I can see for a medium like video games that people think this is something exceptional. But I found it a slog.    … Expand

Well, this is an okay game, I don't regret playing it, but it is annoying when a game like this is "Game of the Year" on so many lists. I do hope more games like this are made but perhaps with less "influencing" on the player.

I heard those complaints before playing, and I was ready. I was waiting for final cut and voice-acting. But…you gotta read that text. Just gotta. Visuals really don't give you much world info.     Well, English is my second language and since this is more a book then a game sometimes I had hard time focusing. Almost no gameplay mechanics it's just text, even if something exciting happens it happens in form of text. Now at least it's voiced, but still. I don't know where the hype come from.

    Definitely not for everyone. I played a few hours and found it mind-numbingly boring, beyond a few funny gags. And one of my favorite games of all time is Pathologic, so I don't mind lots of reading. All the characters and dialog here just seem either boring or annoying. Just not seeing the appeal.

    Why should you play the game? Well it is absolutely beautiful throughout the whole experience. It takes art style and cranks it up to 11, being honestly one of the best looking indy isometric RPGs I have ever played. The real pleasure of the game is the character's skills, and how they have their own internal dialogue even with each other. Each skill has its own personality, and even argues with other personality traits, representing your character's internal conflict. Having a high intelligence skill even might even lead you to the wrong conclusion as you might overthink something. However, this is where the joy ends as the rest of the game becomes a disappointment on what is set up.

    Even though they get skills so right, they implement them so wrong. You NEED certain skill levels to progress the game. Instead of having multiple ways to progress, with some skills being useful for some paths, you are just required to have certain amounts to get past a section. You do this by improving them, or.... boosting them with drugs and/or outfits. It never really matters that much if you are deficient in a skill, just throw on a funny hat and down some drugs. Maybe there is something DEEP and EXISTENTIAL I am not understanding about the mechanics, but I just see it as poor level design.

    Every other negative review has said it, and so will I. This game loves to shove politics down your throat, and being an International Relations major, I do not mind the core of it. But.. it is just the way the game goes about it, not fairly analyzing each political idea, and obviously favoring grass-roots communism. Yes, racism and fascism is bad and correctly lampooned. But I would have liked them to go deeper on why fascists are the way they are. I just see it as a mouthpiece for the designers' own political agenda, oh and while they profit off of that agenda despite being avowed socialists. I just find it tired. I wish they would have focused less on politics and more on the primary investigative narrative of the game.

    The narrative is awesome at first, taking a big fat flop towards the end. Essentially, you are a cop whom wakes up with amnesia, and you have to piece together who you were and who committed a murder. It entirely revolves around a "who done it" clue style plot structure, investigating leads and analyzing the motivations of others. However, the game ruins the narrative towards the end, which I will not spoil. To progress to the end part, you basically have to "listen to the wind" which is as ridiculous as it sounds. Honestly, this cannot be overstated, the ending ruined my whole experience and made me think "what was the friggin point?". Well I guess when I become more deep and psychoanalytical, I will get the ending. But it just feels like the writer wanted a twist, but did not know how to go about it.

    In a nutshell, Disco Elysium was exciting with all of its unique improvements on the isometric RPG genre, and its amazing aesthetic. It is however ultimately ruined by poor level design, political preachery (if you bother to do a lot of reading), and a story with a terrible ending. It might not bother some, and if you are into isometric RPGs and want a new take, you might pick this up on sale. But... with the MSRP $40 USD price tag, really wait for that sale.    … Expand

    It's not a real RPG either. Yes, you have stats and inventory and dice rolls, but that's it. Also, these are just game mechanics, there's a skill tree and inventory like in a lot of games, but they don't make a game an RPG game, and there's no real choice, because the whole difference is tied to dialog options, which you'll click on anyway, further destroying the role-playing part, and for a lot of things, choosing to do something will actually be a dice roll, and the mechanics of retrying the roll are overly complicated and too overwhelming to take the time.

    No matter what you do, you'll be dragged towards a single ending, which makes sense since it's a murder mystery, but as a player you have no choice, the only real choice is at the character creation screen, and from that point on it's pretty much set how you're going to play the next 30-40 hours of the game, which is filled with dialog just to drag it out.

    Yes, you can click on options in dialog windows, but the game will decide for you whether that happens or not, and it will mostly depend on your character's stats and some modifiers. Yes, again, it's an RPG mechanic, but as a player, you don't really get to choose anything or do anything.

    An example of a game where your choices really matter would be Detroit Become Human. Or even Witcher 3. Disco Elysium is nowhere near that level, Detroit is already not an RPG game, Witcher 3 is not a pure RPG, but supposedly Disco Elysium was marketed as open world and a pure RPG, but it's not even half as successful as those games.

    In short, Disco Elysium is not a game to be played even if it's free. I never understood what they liked about this game. It is one of the most overrated games of recent years.    … Expand

    That's a good 60-70% of the game. Just listening to political opinions, most of which you already agree with and nodding along "Oh, that's SO TRUE! I also hate Nazis!", while making the player feel as though this opinion, shared by 99% of the Earth's adult population, is somehow rare or profound.

    When the game isn't doing this, there's some pretty cool RPG aspects in play, at least at first glance. You're given a lot of options and stats that, on paper, should influence the way your character behaves and interacts with everything during the story. Unfortunately, most of it is just an illusion of choice, and I was rather disappointed to find that, for example, having no intellect didn't seem to amount to much in way of even fun flavor text (compared to say Fallout, where your dialogue options were replaced with moronic gibberish and characters would make one-liners at your expense). Instead, it's used for DnD type skill checks where even the biggest fool can in fact have strokes of genius, and the world's weakest man can muster the strength of an ox with the right RNG.

    When the game isn't being overly pedantic and trying to convince me that in fact, killing people is bad, the story has a few somewhat interesting points depending on the choices you make, and regardless of that, the art is pretty unique and refreshing. I just wish there was more detective work and more pronounced effects for character stats. Some politics are fine, especially in a game of this nature, but over half the story is just spent hammering them in. And that's coming from someone "anti right wing".    … Expand

    Disco Elysium isn't focused on gameplay. It's focused on the story, the dialogue, the writing. These elements are all spectacularly bad. If you measure the quality of writing by the volume of words that are thrown at you, maybe this qualifies as decent writing. By any other metric, it's garbage.

    Диско Элизиум игрой то назвать сложно. Скорее интерактивная скучная нудная подробная книга с иллюстрациями и музыкой на фоне. От вас немного тут зависит - на старте игры выбираете куда вкинуть очки из 4 веток, что дальше будет по большей части всё решать. Остаётся лишь откинуться и ролить косточки, читать тучу текста, о местах, которых не знаешь, о мире, который сильно проработали, но его даже не существует в реальности.
    Парень с DTF, написавший положительный обзор на игру, наиграл в первый раз в запой 6 часов. И я тоже, однако счастлив не остался, просто мне показалось, что каждая фраза в игре важна и что нельзя её пропускать, но на деле - 80 процентов фраз - чёртова графомания, от которой зевать не перестаёшь. И игра просто сосёт из тебя время, как "хорошая книга". Настолько реалистичное погружение испортило веселье.
    Похвалить можно лишь необычные иллюстрации, речь не о стилистике "картина маслом", это как раз уродливо, а о необычных похожих на психологические портреты и сюрреалистичные картины иллюстрации отражающие черты характера героя. Второй плюс, ролевая составляющие в виде выбора фраз в своём стиле и одежда изменяющая статы. Жаль, первое сделано неидеально и я не имел выбора в одном из случаев в игре, где герой вместо меня сказал, что девушка катается на карусели х$ёв
    В общем игра была многообещающей в начале, я просто не знал, что на самом деле это была книга.    … Expand

    Disco Elysium – The Final Cut is something rare. It’s a re-issued version of an already-beloved game, that manages to eclipse the source material through clever and thoughtful additions that maximise one of the game’s most beautiful assets: its prose. But more than that, it’s the only CRPG that can truly claim to emulate the tabletop experience—not through adherence to statistics or rules or character sheets, but through the simple act of asking questions, and thoughtfully incorporating the answers.

    Disco Elysium has a distinctive quality to its narrative, whether it's the interesting history of its world, or the mysteries surrounding the investigation, not to mention the depth and uniqueness of the many characters. It's one of the greatest story-driven experiences we've ever seen.
