Real Money Auction House... if you don't spend money in this, you can look forward to weeks farming for blues. Blues are better than uniques in this game. So, magic find is pointless. 0. Zero. Zip. Nada. Horrible game.

Oh and there's no chat rooms. That alone makes the game feel like a single player game, even though its constantly online. . . . . . . .. . . .ugh

The story is below average. WELL below average. For the most part, the writing is absolutely horrific. The plot is transparent and banal to the point of personal insult.
For example, Act 2, by Blizzards own admission is supposed to focus on intrigue and deception - and has little of either that I could tell. The entirety of this Act was bland and unmemorable.

All of the alleged "twists" in this game were mind-numbingly lame. There are atleast 3 characters that suffer from memory loss, one of the most cliche and overused plot devices in existence.

Blizzard retconned and filled in alot of Diablo history to come up with the most convoluted and childish story every drempt of. The extremely contrived plot appears to be aimed at an audience legally too young to purchase this game.

There is no offline singleplayer, which makes sure your solo experience is filled with all of the possible connection and lag issues of any multiplayer game. So far these issues have been numerous.

The auction hall(s) and the game's dumbed down experience ensure that good items for your character are far too easy to come by, which is a huge flaw, seeing as Blizzard put a huge focus on gear to replace a completely gutted levelling system.

As a stand alone title, this game is mediocre. Keeping in mind the time in developement, and the legacy of the series, Diablo 3 was a dissappointment, whose "Concentrated Coolness" sounds way to similar to Dragon Age 2's "Awesome Button".

This game is just plain horrible. I do not recommend anyone to purchase this game. It crashes every second, and servers are very unstable. They keep updating the servers never giving you the chance to play for more than 7 hours straight. And a 0 is a responsible score. So in conclusion
A VERY HORRIBLE GAME DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CRAP

Paid the premium to get this game at launch. So far not been able to log in at all or play a single moment of it. Absolutely disgusted.

The always online system is clearly a joke designed to suck more cash from players and it doesn't even work - the servers in the EU are overloaded. After such a build up and a wait this is really terrible.

The game requires a permanent internet connection to connect to servers that Blizzard didn't bother to scale correctly, although the problem was quite obvious from the open beta. Why force online play on a singleplayer game, and then not provide enough server capacity? And this for a premium priced game. Just disgusting.

If it was a new IP stand alone game from people who never made an RPG hack and slash before I would rank it as meh, an average game. But as a Diablo game? It sucks so bad I can't even begin to explain. I don't care how many expansions, patches or DLC they can churn out. They can't fix this. This game has been **** screwed over and generally ruined from the ground up. There is no amount of polish that can hide the problems it has. Because they are all at its core. Remember "games designed by gamers for gamers"? Well this is like "games designed by General sales managers for the 'oooh shinnyyyyy ' crowd they think gamers are.

First of all, the game will be stuttering and run choppy in general if you don´t have the game files either on a SSD or a USB stick. Due to the coding, it doesn´t work as it should if installed on a HDD.

Second, the support of high end hardware is horrible. You will not get stable FPS no matter what setting you´ll use, new drivers generally made everything worse and it seems it isn´t in both nVidia´s nor Blizzard´s interest to make this game run well. A recent example are random game freezes which happen using the new WHQL nVidia driver 310.70.

The story isn´t worth it. The item system, compared to D2 where it was probably the #1 fun factor of this game, is horrible.
In the end you´ll find yourself doing runs after runs filling your inventory with countless rares, which 99% of the time will be worth- and useless. Even if you´ll find a legendary, there will be so many RNG rolls on that items that in the end it will most likely turn out bad, let alone that most legendaries are useless anyway. This was very different with the equivalent uniques of D2, and will bore you moreso than give any satisfaction.

The skill cap is so low, especially because you´re restricted to only use 6 abilities at a time. In D2 you had access to ALL your skills anytime.
You only seem to get dumber playing this game, honestly.

For an expansion, I'd like to see an option to switch off auction house (with the reward being higher dropchances), I'd like an option to disable all the ingame cutscenes (before bosses etc. they get really annoying after your 100th playthrough). And I'd like better itemization, like runewords, chance to drop all kinds of quality gems (albeit a really low chance), and maybe add charms to the game?

Which is the first and biggest problem with Diablo 3; it's a bloody mess. The difficulty has been scaled back from very hard to kindergarten-hard. The economy is broken you can buy a single item for a very cheap price and you will wreck the next 3 acts that you play. The new skill-system seemed like a good idea when you realized that it didn't encourage switching your game-style. You will literally just choose a few spells and use them act after act after act. The skills are also unimaginative and most are completely useless which is why only a chosen few are good enough for the later stages of the game. This makes everything repetitive and very grindy. Spamming a single ability over and over again until everything is dead is NOT a good way to do things. Which brings me to my next problem; the loot is so boring! In Diablo 2 you could pick up an armour and gain access to an ability that your class couldn't even use. In Diablo 2 you could get a weapon that had a chance of shooting fireballs at your enemies. In Diablo 3 you get items with stats like: +361 dexterity and +270 vitality. They do no difference whatsoever and this is really a deal-breaker in a game that relies so heavily on loot and gear.
And always online DRM is unacceptable. I'm not even mad that I couldn't play the game when I first got it. That was a long time ago and it was fixed; it's fine. But I should never ever have to be online to play an offline game. That is the dumbest thing they could've possible done and it absolutely infuriates me.
Diablo 2 improved on great features. Diablo 3 removed them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know there's a lot of fan backlash here but I honestly can't score Diablo 3 more than 4 even though I've beaten it on all difficulties. First two difficulties: too easy thus mainly seen as a chore. Third: Just about right. Fourth: stupid, and the wrong kind of difficulty to boot I don't see how it's a skill check against the player to have your mobs stats set so that they'll one shot a wizard and now the only way to play is to kite everything. That said I did play all this before some supposed "tweaking" and before that, wizards in full resists were basically fodder in Inferno. But alas I can only review based on what I played.

The main reason I score low is:
1, We've gone from dark, gritty and scary to childish and ridiculous. This isn't diablo. I actually went back to play the original and it still has that same chilling atmosphere and feeling of dread. This game, with it's apparently 6 year old child diablo throwing pathetic taunts your way on the end level, is an insult to the senses.

2, Auction house and lack of solo offline. They killed what made diablo fun, the grinds, the chance to find something really special. There is no chance to find anything special anymore. After four playthroughs I got generic drop after generic drop, absolutely tedious. So I started to browse the auction house and soon after lost any desire to continue playing. I will not pay for loot thanks.

So yeah cheers for ruining everything that made Diablo great, blizz. All you had to do was repeat the dark atmosphere and loot grindy addiction but nah. And ignore the positive critic scores folks because they are clearly not being honest.

Totally disappointed: graphic style copied from wow, and totally opposed to the dark environment in Diablo 1&2 gameplay absolutely unbalanced: it is too easy, and that makes it utterly boring.
No PVP,internet connection required to play offline; real money auction unbalances even more the games mechanics.
The player stats are now fixed WHY ?!
After 12 years... Such a failure.

Great graphics and a decent story but the game was completely ruined by the lack of character customisation/choices/surprise. AH ruined any loot found, Loved Diablo II and I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. Zero replay value. The whole game was based on the stats which gear provides and weapon damage determining spell damage was a bad idea.

From the get go this game was ruined. People say now, after two years since launch, that the game is finally what it should have been. Well, that's two years too late, and they have the balls to charge 40$ for an upcoming expansion with 20%- 25% new content? I'd throw 15$ at Blizzard just to own the expansion, even if i won't play it. 40 bucks ? Good bye.

After the recent 2.0.1 patch, things have gotten significantly better - but it's still not up to par for where it should have been to begin. Reaper of Souls has also helped me regain some faith in Blizzard, but they still have a ways to go until it's a quality ARPG, like it's predecessor was.

Also the RMAH and all that "Pay to win" crap is disappointing.
This is no longer Diablo, this is "play wow alone, or with a maximum of 3 friends".
You did it, you destroyed a highly anticipated sequel blizzard.
They could have implemented an offline SP and peer to peer multiplayer and we would have next to no lag whatsoever. THAT is GOOD netcode.
The gameplay suffers highly from the lag.
Because of all of this + poor graphics + dumbed down gameplay + hardly any customization (because of no stats, etc) I give this game (stating an average game is a 5/10) a remarkable 0.

It's unfortunate and a major disappointment. I'm surprised all the 'paid for reviews' gave this game an average '86' Metascore. To recap what others have stated: 1.) No offline gameplay
2.) Even if you play alone in a private game to get a 'single player' feel, you get disconnected frequently and losing progress.
3.) Cash shop / auction house / pay to win 4.) No PvP / Hostility

5.) Cartoon-like / World of Warcraft textures / League of Legends graphics ( a major shift from the dark Diablo 1 & 2 games)
6.) They took out skill points and stat points so you can't experiment or build your character to your play style.
7.) Average completion of normal mode is about 7-12 hours.

All in all, I wish the original developers made this game. They wouldn't have fked it up so bad. There's probably a reason they stopped at Diablo 2. It feels like they just pulled more prime evils out of their ass to milk the Diablo franchise.

Diablo III is a failure in so many aspects that it'd be impossible to put just in a few words why it's so bad and dissapointing. They had the time, they had de money and resources, they had experience in the gaming world and they also knew what their customers were expecting. Taking all that in consideration, I guess D3 is the biggest Fail in gaming history. To sum up, it has no soul.

They enjoy a challenging interactive experience. Once again, as is happening more and more now these great games which made these companies stand out originally, are being remade as simplified versions. Who are these people Blizzard think are out there that are incapable of abstract thinking? For starters we are PC users so no need to bring a game down to console standards. Secondly, I was a young teenager when I was playing Diablo II and I loved it, I had no difficulty adapting to a challenging game, and that's what made me keep coming back.

Also, for those reviewers saying people are too hard on this game for not being like Diablo II and it should be considered a new game on it's own, that's complete rubbish, if they intended it as a new game or a reinterpreting of an old one Blizzard could have given it a different name.

Gone are the massive basins in the Durance of Hatred with piles upon piles of corpses creating waterfalls of blood. This new art style seems to take pages from games like DotA 2 and Borderlands to give a much more cartoony, lighthearted feel. My final, and most pressing concern was the sheer lack of length of the game itself. Yes, I realize that there are 4 difficulties, but is playing over the exact same content 4 times really worth sacrificing the length and quality of the content itself?

I don't care about the pirates. (They'll find a way in regardless.) Blizzard is only punishing honest, paying customers. I've really look forward to Diablo 3, and almost picked it up...I'm glad I hesitated at the hefty $60 price tag, and then I saw the reviews online. I'm extraordinarily grateful to the users on Metacritic which have raised this issues that the Apologists and elite sponsored critics have ignored. Reviews can be changed Blizzard. Diablo 3 looks like an ipad game that forces you to connect to the internet to play. The only problem is you're still alone in your room, but wait a second I'm connected to the internet? I'm guessing they are trading your information to other sites to make a little cash on the side while you play one of the most dissapointing sequels of the decade. The problem started when they decided to make the game. Hack & Slash games aren't very good to begin with. We all played Diablo and Diablo 2 because we were waiting for Starcraft, or the next Warcraft RTS game. Probably the same reason why Blizzard eliminated the studio after the mediocre interest of Diablo 2. Then instead of coming up with a new ip, which I believe was rumored, they brought back their B franchise. Think of Warcraft without 90% of the lore. It's like the mouse for the PC just came out and they are showing you what it's capable of doing. I thought Blizzard shifted from making games this bad and wanted to build mmos and advanced rts esports games, the next age of gaming, instead they wanted to release another Diablo with half the content, no PVP, a gimmicky way to rip players off with a store that should be illegal. They forced it to be on the internet so that they wouldn't have cheating. The problem is no serious players are going to play this for long, so cheating might even add a bit of interest to the game after people have nothing else to do which happens after two days and beat it. Hey now try it but the enemies have a lot more health and the same artificial intelligence. Expand

This is a game which was developed for 10 years, I feel I could have gotten a degree in software writing, rendering, modelling and texturing and made a better game in the same timeframe. The lack of single player feels stingy and irritating, as the previous 2 games were primarily based on single player. The cash shop allows players to pay to win, the annoying thing is of course that you cannot choose to not play with these people as there is no singleplayer, playing the game requires you remain online. Similarly, the feel of the game, that is, the music, the texturing etc isn't in a unique style. Personally it feels cartoonish and unrealistic, so much so that the 128 colour graphics of d2 are more realistic. The music feels like they were trying to improve on a masterpiece by rewriting Tristram's theme. If you have played Diablo 1 or 2. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. 1b. Skill switcher - Sorry this didn't fly well either. We have to open up a window to switch skills and select a new one. We don't have a box where we could put them on hot keys. "Why can't I just put my skills in some bar" she said.

    2. Difficulty - As mentioned before the game is very easy. I can't believe how simple it is to move around and kill mobs. I clearly remember d2 being harder with more monsters and harder "in ground" dungeons. I told my wife that she would have to beat the game in order to make it more difficult , and then "replay" the whole content again. She kind of laughed at that and said "no thanks." ie replaying the content to get a better challenge for her didn' really go over well.
