It's essentially more of the same, nothing new, kind of a dumbed down version of Diablo 2, all features that had interesting promise in the development were removed since Blizzards target group apparently either are in preschool or are too stupid to understand skillpoints.

Such a shame... don't understand the Hype.. what is new? Storyline is **** compared to other blizzard titles

Diablo 3 was good for about 7 days of gameplay, and that's it. Tremendous disappointment, stay far, far away from this and its upcoming expansion.

Here's a list of the major issues: 1) Online DRM. Leads to you not being able to play your single player game when servers are frequently down. Also you get some lag hiccups which can cause character deaths and slow down in the action.

    1) Online DRM. Leads to you not being able to play your single player game when servers are frequently down. Also you get some lag hiccups which can cause character deaths and slow down in the action.

    2) Loot drops terrible. Blizzard's goal seems to be to have all players buy their gear on the real money auction house. Loot drops are plentiful garbage, with next to nothing being something you would use. 99% of my gear came from the gold auction house. This is basically an E-bay simulator, not an ARPG. I suspect Blizzard creates loot and posts it themselves on the RMAH to make more money.

    3) Minimal randomization. Most of each map is the same everytime, have a few minor variations on sections.

    4) Very short game. You can do a run through in a few hours of all four acts. Add point #3 to this and it makes the game boring.

    5) Next to no character customization, again what's the point in playing this again?

The combat system is good, but sadly the rest of the game is not. We waited 10 years for this?

DRM doesn't stop pirates, at best it delays them. The only ones really affected by DRM are the actual buyers who need to wait hours, even days to play their game. However, at this current point in time is that the game is unplayable. Not bad or underwhelming: literally unplayable. The (frankly idiotic) always-online DRM has rendered the game unusable even for single player, with server errors preventing playing customers from using their game. I truly cannot comprehend how a company could make such a grave error as to ship a literally unusable product. Were the game an MMORPG, I would be more forgiving, as server overload is to be expected in such a type of game. However, forcing players who wish to play solo into a contrived online mode and then being unable to handle the server load (especially from a company that has been in the MMO genre for approximately a decade!) is unforgivable, especially when considering the baffling lack of an offline-only option for character creating. What could be a decent (well, acceptable) game, shot in the foot by an utterly abysmal attempt at serving your customer base. Expand

Terribad. The graphics and gameplay are so shoddy that it is barely a step up (if that) from the first Diablo game. Enemy difficulty is so easy that it is not even fun. Well..I was able to play for 10 minutes on launch day (Tueday) before going to work in the morning. Seemed to play smoothly and I even had fun, despite it being the same content from the Beat I played several times. After work I couldn't log in due to blizzard having issues with their servrers. So I went to visit a friend in the hospital for a couple hours. Came back, had some dinner, and couldn't log in for the remainder of the evening. BlizzardCS on Twitter confirmed both times that they were experiencing issues. I understand that blizzard launch games go like this, but I can't even play the game by myself, in solo mode, because of their ridiculous server-side DRM. So basically I paid $60 for a splash screen and numerous log-in errors. So for now I'll give the game a 2, based on the fact that it's been mostly unplayable for the first day of launch...so far. I don't understand how a company who launches three expansion packs to a customer base of 10+ million people (World of Warcraft) can still utterly embarrass themselves like this. They never seem to learn from their mistakes. Once upon a time, Blizzard used to be a game developer I trusted and revered, but every year it's becoming clear to me that money is their number one priority, while their long-standing customer base (probably the most fiercely loyal fanbase in video games at some point...likely not so much anymore) take a backseat. D3 will likely be the last Blizz title I buy. Blizzard gets a massive 1 finger salute for this turd of a launch.

SHOCKING FAIL FROM BLIZZARD! The first Blizzard game to TRULY disappoint on so many levels, and the reason I will NEVER "auto buy" a Blizzard game ever again.

From the moment I put the disc in the drive and was wrongly informed that my Windows 7 x64 OS was below minimum requirements, followed on by an installer that jammed on 0%, I knew something was WRONG. Googling these issues I was fairly shocked to find that these issues were in fact widespread, with many eager Diablo fans battling for hours to even get the game installed. Took the day off work to try this game out? TOUGH! Because if you get it installed, the servers are down anyway!

If you get the installer running, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the Diablo 2 theme tune playing throughout the install. The bad news is that the positives stop there. So now I'll start to list my issues with this game, which a vast majority of Diablo fans also seem to share:-

    1. Absolutely disgraceful graphics. Forget the World Of Warcraft styling (tired of hearing that?), as thats a given. The textures are low res and washed out. The colours are all wrong, it's too bright, theres no dark and dingy gothic areas you'd expect from the Diablo series (which seemingly started with Diablo 1 and promptly died with Diablo 2).

    2. Auto leveling, auto assigned skill points, stats now mean NOTHING.

    3. Auto assigned new skills at each level with NO skill tree to traverse. That's right, every level X character, class Y has EXACTLY the same skills and attributes as every other level X character, class Y. 4. Far too easy on normal difficulty and no choice to start at a higher difficulty. Fancy playing through this mess fest after you've completed normal difficulty? I DONT!

    5. Wizz-bang spell/attack graphics and mega-powered looking characters right from the get go! (and I literally mean, level ONE). Why bother scaling the spell or attack graphics/effects the more powerful your character gets? In Diablo 3 you can have a rainbow firing lightening storm of thunder crapping character right from the get go. All sense of achievement and progression RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW! I'm getting depressed thinking about the potential of this game, so I'll stop here. Why release an action RPG with all the RPG elements totally gutted out of the game? Leaving us with a rainbow colored bowel movement mess!

Overall I really don't think Blizzard could have f*cked this game up more severely. Casual gamers and console kiddies will no doubt disagree. Real fans of the Diablo franchise will be a bit more sympathetic to my viewpoint.

I guess Blizzard was trying to achieve a more fun and "refined" game. Why should they stick to a winning formula that's worked well twice before? Well, I'm about to do some "refining" myself and remove this rubbish from my hard drive.

    AVOID!

As you play this game you'll find you are forced out of the game and back to the main menu because their servers are crap. Not only is this aggrivating as it happens numerous times within minutes but you have to RESTART from the last checkpoint...I freaking played the same level 4 freaking times because of random timeouts...i swear...blizzard you're on a roll with the randomness..I just wish it was stuff i actually liked. And each time you are forced to restart the dungeons are randomly different...a couple times it was cool cause i ended up in better dungeon passages but other times i was like...wtf is this..i dont like this option.

    4. I seriously have to enter a queue to play a game I purchased? Has anyone here ever purchased a game and then realized when they want to play it they have to wait in line to play it as if going on a rollercoaster? This game should be called Six Flags: Amusement Failure because that's exactly what it feels like i did. Instead of paying $60 for an amusement park admission and spending 2 hours waiting in line to go on the rides... I paid $60 for a game and have to wait in line for others to finish playing before there is room for me...and then heaven forbid #1, #2, or #3 happens and i'm kicked off the ride..i mean game..while i'm in midair... That's a way to get killed..and the same is in the game...sometimes it will freeze and by the time it's unfrozen you've died 40 times from monsters LOL...wowwwww

    5. Hardly any magic to choose from and use. All that happens is every 4 or so levels a new ability unlocks and you can power it up with runes or what not...but it would be so much better if you could pick up abilities like you can in any other RPG or game. Stumbling upon rare magics and spells would greatly increase the amount of options a player has in this game.

    6. The list goes on... Linear game play similar to Final Fantasy 13, although Final Fantasy 13-2 greatly improved on that...guess we'll have to wait for Diablo 3-2 to come out where they have fixed all the problems gamers had. The major point is..don't do anything revolutionary if you can't handle it. Blizzard you boast the 12 years this game took to make...and honestly let's see what you've covered in the same amount of time it took to make Avatar.

---1---7 hour game on normal...seriously? you call that long? That's an average console game...okay so i wont complain..but uh...how many 12 year long developed games are only 7 hours long? Seems to me like it should have taken you the average time it takes to make a game with this crap and that's 1-2 years... In 12 years I would not expect a game 7 hours long.. Take a page out of Squareenix's book and make a game at least 20 hours long.

---2---Bugs...you had 12 years to make a perfect game and yet there are so many bugs in this game it looks like you didn't even test it yourself. If I'm not getting stuck in an infinite wormhole that keeps me locked in an area no matter which direction i go in I'm being constantly teleported back 10 feet from where i started....wow...you definitely upped the physics...in fact...you defy all physics in this game!

Blizzard should have made a NORMAL game instead of playing around with the formula. diablo 1 and 2 were amazing..this game is like UNCHARTED 3 for PS3...it's great...but the second game was the prime and from there they obviously couldnt go any higher. This should have been a single player game offline with a multiplayer component. Some people dont care about the auction house and some people may want to play this game offline...say while they're on vacation or traveling or in the military where they dont have a connection all the time, or maybe they are poor and saved up to get this game because they really wanted it only to find they need to pay $50 a month for broadband too just to play it...oh and that reminds me...

Graphics are terrible, ridiculous to think that it took 10+ years for this complete and utter pile of garbage. Blizzards motto to "release when its ready" is clearly broken with this game. Half of it is already missing as it is! Customization is nonexistent. FATE a free game that came on my computer is better than this. Spell effects look like they are straight out of the 1990's.

The latter is especially annoying given the use of checkpoints in the game. When I have managed to play, the graphics look pretty average, fighting doesn't seem to require much skill (I'm not sure if this changes on harder difficulties), and there is too much trash between important fights. A couple of good points: I've enjoyed hearing some of the lore whilst continuing to play the game (through the books scattered around the environment). I've also been enjoying the crafting, with the armor and weapons often good enough to wear/wield. Expand

They spent over 4 years to develop a game that looks like an add-on or community mod to Diablo 2. Awesome, Blizzard! Investors won't be very happy, I'm afraid. To be honest, my 14-years old son likes it and finds it fun. He also says it's kinda like one of his smartphone games.

Been playing video games, and have owned pretty much every blizzard game on release day since 1995. Im talking hundreds of games from rpg's to fps, you name it, ive played it. Diablo 3 probably is one of the biggest disappointments to the PC gaming industry in the past 20 years. 10 years waiting anxiously for the sequel to D2, and this is the result, i was truely devastated about it to be honest. Nevermind the stupid complaints about graphics or online only, these are not issues with me. What started as an exciting day for me on launch day turned out to be an absolute nightmare. What company in the history of PC gaming, not to mention one with the largest MMO background in the history of PC gaming, releases a online only game that is completely unusable for 36-48 hours after release? I mean absolutely, positively, worthless. You couldn't log in, you couldn't stay in the game, you couldn't even get your create character screen. I angrily waited it out, debating about returning the game, and finally as able to get a decent amount of play time in, only to be greeted by error 3007 hours later, consistently, every 3 minutes after logging in, 38 times in a row. Blizzards response to this? Your computer or isp is at fault, check your settings. Meanwhile, there's a half a million people on the Diablo 3 forums complaining about the same error effecting them in exactly the same way. A true disgrace to customer service and tech support I must say. Finally I was clued into a trick later on that you had to join general chat to keep you connected to battle.net to prevent error 3007, no one knows why, but it works, and thus gameplay commenced. I had a fantastic time beating the game in normal mode with friends, it had plenty of content, and the drops were decent enough for my level. Thus I made my way into nightmare mode, only to realize that this is where the fun ended, and things went "full retard". Normal baddies were fine, stronger by a significant amount as expected. That was until I met my first group of magical baddies with special spells they are granted....plague, fire chains, poisoning. Thus the dying began, I died a total of 57 times in Act 1 before completing in, and the number of deaths in nightmare alone are well into the hundreds, the fun was literally sucked out of the game every time you ran across a group of spell casting monsters. Often times I would find my self preparing for a fight, and then realize I had just been 1 hit killed without even realizing what had happened. Set all of this aside, as far as the balancing problems go with certain monsters being just, incredibly over powered, I come to find out that blizzard actually reduces your magic find % as you go on in the game.....LOL. So not only does it take you an hour to defeat diablo in nightmare mode with 3 additional players, dying at least 50 times, but you get nothing but crap drops on every...single...boss, only to find out that your level 46, and you cant advance on to hell, because you need to be level 50! LOL Honestly I mean ive never seen a more ass backwards type of gameplay in my entire life. You would think the epic struggle to beat these higher levels as you move on with friends would lead to more epic rewards, when the game is designed for EXACTLY the opposite! In fact you get a magic find bonus of 75% all through normal mode as described by one of the blizzard techs. So there you have it, Its up to you to decide whether or not you enjoy the game, im going to keep on playing because I paid money for it and Ive got nothing else better to do, but I honestly regret buying it, and it has deterred me from ever purchasing anything with a blizzard/activision logo on it. The biggest problem is that after you hit lvl 60 the game turns into one giant slot machine, with each monster kill that may or may not yield something worth selling, and reaching lvl 60 can be done in a day or two, so literally in a day or two after getting this game you will run out of content. Horrible. I haven't played the game in a year and I am still offended how Blizzard conned me out of my 60.00 for their POS-10-year-in-the-making follow up to D2. The number of things that are bad about this game are many but surely the pay-to-win auction house was the worst, most offensively greedy thing in the gaming world ever. There is little to no customization of your character, where the game does not allow you to choose stats or the skills you learn and empower them greatly. Also, the story is very bland with one what could be considered a twist at best (I know it is a hack-and-slash, so I'll let this one go). The game play starts out well, but gets boring after putting in 10 hours or so (Farming for gear is just awful, as the boss fights are pretty generic and you have no other reason to get better gear once you beat all 4 modes). Speaking of modes, the design team sounded lazy by trying to provide a full experience with 1/4 of the content by making you play each mode to get to the next one. The release of the game was awful, as it looked it was still in beta and is only now a release-worthy product (if I dare say even that). The critics obviously played the first few hours, if that, and did not think about long-term game and replay value. Oh well...At least now I know not to buy any more Diablo games. Expand

Would have been a more engaging if the difficulty progression was something just like Nightmare followed by Inferno. Gameplay is absolutely and completely lacks innovation.

When I say it lacks innovation, I mean this is what I expected:

Imagine every class has a skill that rapidly moves them from one location to another, for the wizard it could be teleport, barb could jump, demon hunter could cartwheel etc. There are certain enemies in the game where that skill is necessary, otherwise you cannot defeat them, or they instantly kill you, or there are places in the environment from which you cannot progress unless you use that skill. Likewise, each class has a skill that makes them temporarily invulnerable for a short period of time (again mage could phase to another dimension, barb could harden his skin, demon hunter could drop dead then come back to life a few seconds later) otherwise certain enemies will kill you instantly, or the environment will kill you unless you use that skill, and you cannot progress through the game unless you use it properly. Then the game could throw several enemies at you simultaneously where you have to use diverse skills to overcome varied obstacles.

Instead, every enemy can simply be killed with regular old damage. And you always suffer from regular old damage. You can walk the entire world from beginning to end, and the "puzzles" that you solve do not rely on reaction time or playing skill, just grab-and-go. Click click click.

    Boring.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There’re so many failings with this travesty of a Diablo game that it's difficult to know where to start, I'll start with my biggest gripe about this game:

    1) The necessity to farm items to stand even the slightest chance against certain enemies: you will, pretty often, run up against groups of 3 or 4 champion enemies that will teleport to surround you then wall you in then multiply so for each one you engaged there is now six then use a spell like decimate or poison and hey presto you're dead in the blink of an eye (this could be fixed if blizzard did one of the following: made the enemies spells less powerful, reduced the total number of possible powers an enemy can have or stopped some effect pairings), this gets compounded by the never ending lag: you go to engage an enemy, the picture judders a bit and all of a sudden you're waiting to re-spawn.

    2) Did I mention the ever present lag? I’m pretty sure it did.

    3) The characters are all pretty standard, there is very little difference between them past their active attributes: only 2 stats are worth bothering with for each character type, the rest are pretty much useless.

    4) The items are much of a muchness, even with 1.4 patch it’s still a world of nerf away from being any good.

    5) The story line is pretty boring and unoriginal.

    6) The lesser evils you face off against are clichéd, two dimensional and don’t really fit their reputations: Azmodan, according to the game’ lore, is hell’ chief strategist yet can’t stop himself from telling you his whole plan, Belial can’t lie for s**t, is transparent, predictable and massively boring. Even Diablo sucks and in this title he’s supposed to have all the powers of the 7 evils for f**k sake.

    7) This game loses all playability after the first time round, to be honest it was a struggle to even get through the first play through.

What game were they playing? IMO, they were playing greedy buggers. Marking down a Blizzard game seems almost sacrilegious. Having an honest opinion seems to require too much competency, or moral fiber, or some other factor, because I haven't seen one yet in regards to this game.

It's a glaring insult to this site's readers when the official critics have a this turd at 8.8/10. Right beside it is a far more honest take on Diablo 2's retarded step child. With laughably bad story, dialogue, cinematic boss fights *ugggghhh -_-*, terrible balancing issues, melee hatred, a need for A2 inferno items to complete A1 Inferno, moronically bad legendaries, a requirement to rely on the AH to get 95% of your end game gear, the AH in and of itself... The list goes on, markedly worse being the most ignominious demise of one of gaming history's most beloved characters, Deckard Cain....death by dominatrix slutterfy *shudder*

What good points this game has are few and far between; not even the atmosphere is remotely near the mark! For many, seemingly most, fans of the Diablo franchise, this game was a terrible, decade late blow. I, personally, don't even consider it to be canon, preferring to hold out hope that the D3 team will be eradicated with extraordinary prejudice and replaced by a team who will release a truly worthwhile successor to one of the most heavily awarded and best loved RPG series of all time. For free. I can dream, can't I?

I rarely take official reviews under consideration as fluffing up crap games is just one of the many tools video game companies use to sell their games. This, though, is just so unabashedly rotten that I feel disgusted. Blizzard hasn't been Blizzard for years, and these glowing reviews are terrible attempts at adding shine to a turd.

    -Ladder race
    -PK'ing
    -Item trading
    -Character customization
    -8 player games
    -Sense of community

I give diablo 3 a 0/10 because in my opinion it has none of the fundamental aspects that i loved in Diablo 2. There is now leveling ladder and understandably so because it only takes the dedicated player around 2 days to get to level 60. There is no PK'ing and there be no PK'ing. Blizzard will add a WoW styled arena PVP system at some point, but that leaves me feeling like I'm playing LoL rather than Diablo. Maybe I'm a bit strange, but I enjoyed trading in Diablo 2. Yes it took effort to find someone that was looking for the items you had available. And yes it took more time to find someone that was looking for those items that had something to offer that you were interested in. But I am sorry, I don't play games casually, and I don't want the games I play to be made for casual players. The inclusion of a real money auction house destroys a barter system and opens for the potential of newbs "buying wins." To me choosing which skills you're going to use is not costumizing a character. All level 60 Barbs will have the same skills and play styles available to them. In diablo 3 you will create no more than 5 characters, unlike Diablo 2 where you might have made as many as 100 characters if you found a new neat item or had an off the wall build idea. No attribute placement, no skill tree, and no committment to any decision that you make in-game simply prevents any sort of replayability in my eyes. Diablo 2, released more than a decade ago, supported 8 players in-game. How they chose to reduce that number in half for a 2012 release date is beyond me. Most people have more than 3 friends they would like to play with. Beyond that with only 3 other people to interact with it reduces the sense of community. The chances of finding like minded people or a clan to join are significantly hendered purely by the numbers of people you'll meet in a game. Because we all know that bnet 2.0 certainly is isolated and does not help anyone find a sense of community.

So there you have it. TLDR; Diablo 3 has 0 of my favorite features from Diablo 2. So it gets a 0/10 from my review.

From what I can tell, it reverts back to a dumbed down, ancient gameplay formula, the tech used and mechanics of the game is atrocious in comparison to the games of today. If you put the failures of this game with the fact that Blizzard is such a large and powerful company and the game has been in the works for 10 years to produce the following list of failures, then I'm afraid your heart will sink once you realise you just wasted your game money on something not even worth 10 bucks on steam.

    a) Constant internet connection required for a supposed to be single player rpg
    b) Ancient and dumbed down gameplay
    c) The graphics and textures are ancient
    d) They have a zoom in option which you should never ever chose b/c it will make you cry
    e) Ancient isometric 3D nonsensical mess
    f) Boring gameplay elements
    g) Buggy collision mechanics
    h) Can't pause the game, EVER

I'm sure there is so much more, but really ignore all good reviews b/c they are worthless and are hardcore Diablo fans trying to trick themselves by tricking you, save your time, money and frustration and avoid this game completely. The only good thing about this game is the cool cinematics, which are used to trick people like me.

    Seriously?

From crashy servers to generic, unchangeable BattleTag IDs, there is no part of the technical infrastructure that Blizzard executed properly. Since I can't play the game itself without the servers, my only frame of reference is what I saw during the beta test phase:

    * The artwork is okay, if somewhat "toony."
    * The story is okay, if somewhat generic.
    * The Witch Doctor class feels entirely out-of-place, as if it belongs in some other game.
    * The skill and rune systems have been dumbed down from Diablo 2.

Overall, Diablo 3 is an average-to-mediocre experience at a premium price. The game plays more like an Activision title than a Blizzard one. Let the buyer beware....

What's actually new here? Simplified skill system that takes away meaningful choice. Obelisks that transport you out of dungeons. No TP scrolls, no need to go to town to identify rares. Cash-based auction house. "Lore" bits that play audio over the top of the game itself (after popping out of the same stupid satchel), making it clear that you aren't role playing or adventuring here, you're controlling an avatar in a video game. Everything new is designed to make the game more accessible to casual gamers and easier to monetize. This is made perfectly clear by the need to have half of the dialogue be a retelling of 1 & 2. In the short term, I'm sure they made decisions that will help the bottom line. In the long term, this is how brands get destroyed. But I guess if you're an executive these days, it's all about getting your quick buck and leaving the consequences to the next guy.

The gameplay has been casualized beyond any posible acceptance, it's just not diablo, it's a childish game with bright colors, the would should depict rainbows and a happy smiling sun if they wanted to make some justice.

The colors looks like vomit, it's as simple as that, diablo II had a great art style, that was all replaced by boring textures with some serious bloom problems, I don't know if the devs wanted to make it look like fog, but it just looks bad, if they wanted a good example of fog they should look at the original trilogy of Silent Hill.

I beat the game in 2 hours, 2 HOURS, I honestly feel scammed, I haven't even been into games in the recent years, yet this still felt like a crappy difficulty design. Why is every single game today trying to be as easy and linear as call of duty?
