    Reaper of Souls makes Diablo 3 fun. That's basically it. You don't necessarily need RoS to experience what the game is like now. Go fire up the vanilla game and play with the 2.0 patch to find out before you buy.

    RoS adds Act 5 to the campaign and a new class, the Crusader. Act 5 is not very long, but feels dragged out because the size of the areas are massive. But these areas are

    RoS adds Act 5 to the campaign and a new class, the Crusader. Act 5 is not very long, but feels dragged out because the size of the areas are massive. But these areas are filled with lots of extra events and the boss encounters are well designed. The Crusader is very fun to play and fans that missed the Paladin from D2 will be happy.

    RoS also adds a new game mode called Adventure mode, in this mode all acts are accessible and you can freely travel between them while doing random quests called bounties for loot and blood shards. Blood shards allow you to gamble on items from a new vendor for chances at legendaries. In this mode you can also open up randomized gauntlet type areas with a big boss at the end called Rifts which give you extra chances at loot and more blood shards.

    A new crafter, the Enchanter is also part of RoS. This new crafter allows you to change one mod on an item for a cost (depending on the item rarity and type, the cost can be very significant). But it allows you to salvage some items that would be a minor or zero upgrade and turn them into a major boost. This enchanter also allows you to change the appearance of your gear (similar to World of Warcraft's transmog feature), your characters will no longer look like mismatched clowns.

    Blizzard has promised more features like Ladder play are still coming, along with tweaks to adventure mode so things should improve even more in the future.

    But while Diablo 3 is actually fun now it's still an aRPG designed for a very casual audience, and RoS hasn't changed that. If you want deep character development you'll still need to look elsewhere, like Path of Exile.

    Lasted a month, but I'm done. They still have a lot of work to do. They made a better foundation for the future than Vanilla, but I still think some fundamental flaws will hold the game back forever unless addressed. Gear is simply not interesting. Restricting trade to NOTHING was actually an idea I wanted to embrace, but combined with terribly low drop rates for decent items, frustratingLasted a month, but I'm done. Restricting trade to NOTHING was actually an idea I wanted to embrace, but combined with terribly low drop rates for decent items, frustrating gated gameplay and a mystic that servers more as less as random cash hoarding slot machine, has made the whole experience distasteful. Classes are now balanced around gear and not having said gear makes certain aspects of the classes completely unrewarding, especially the Crusader whom I spent over 200 hours with. Sadly Vanilla despite problems was actually closer to Diablo in my eyes. I don't mind a fresh new idea but it has to work and embrace the series. This simply doesn't and I'm curious if most people leaving high reviews have changed their minds. While official forums should be taken with a grain of salt, it seems a lot of the responses to and from "Blue" commentary reminds us that this game still needs work.

    I played it for a couple hundred hours so it was well worth the money, but it was not the 'every day' game I hoped for. Maybe in the future patches will sort it out, but at the core the game is still flawed as ever.

    Better than D3, was fun for two months which is considerable amount, and. it will be getting better with every patch just like D3 did.

    I can say we are finally out of beta ;)

    The biggest factor holding the game back was always the Auction House and now that it has been removed, this is starting to look like a Diablo game that I can play for years to come.

    All in all, the game still has room to grow, but this expansion is a large step in the right direction. Here's hoping Blizzard continues to tweak and patch until the systems are as interesting and polished as the later patches of Diablo 2.

    I've played through RoS on my wizard, and though I rated D3 quite low, this *is* an improvement. (I'd like to do 6.5, but to be generous, I'll go with 7)

    First, the removal of the real money auction house was great - that was a painful, awful, insulting, greedy, disastrous system, & the #1 reason I quit D3, & remember it without affection. (I had reached - whatever the final level was,

(I had reached - whatever the final level was, & completely lost interest, since it was P2W in the extreme.) On the other hand, the inability to trade with friends & party members now is disappointing, and a *sane* auction house system might be welcome, albeit possibly too open to exploitation. On the basis of auction house removal alone, I have to give it a substantially higher score.

    The story/area is a little better than D3. Not a lot. A little. I played the wizard most, but also got a crusader to max, & found it strangely ill-suited to the game design. (WHY make it slower? What's the point? - I realize that's been removed, but when I was leveling mine, it was a real pain.) By the time the crusader class had been buffed up, I was too sick of her to bother. I liked the voice actors for both male & female - that was a plus.

    I found the nerfs/buffs a little - annoying. I was disappointed, again, that the classes most suited to moving, to kiting, such as wizard & DH, seem to be rewarded for standing still & shooting. I find that boring, and too dependent on gear. I'm sick of gear being #1 in Blizzard games, as well as an almost mandatory cookie cutter build. (I see that critics seem to love their games, but I'm not feeling it. "Simple & utterly gear dependent is just not working for me, & I'm a pretty casual gamer.)

    Rifts - a good idea, intensely boring to repeat. WAY too long, & your reward/boss comes too soon, in that there's not a lot of reason to continue with them, though legendaries are supposed to drop more often in Rifts. (I averaged maybe one worthless legendary an hour.) There should have been a major boss per level, or make Rifts shorter. I got more legendaries from blasting urns & crates than from bosses, which is a big problem for me. A boss *should* give more than an urn, but you are not rewarded for tackling harder fights. Just - from playing a lot, & that's a reason not to open D3.

    Enchanting was a nice touch, if it worked reasonably well. I realize they changed the option that allowed for, "Would you like vitality for your vitality, or perhaps... vitality?" But several times, I got lovely rare items that had terrible stats.(that couldn't be altered by enchanting) Obviously, you're supposed to play this game for a lot more hours than I'm willing to endure. I'm not helped enough by going up in Torment (I was generally comfortable at 3 & 4 on the wizard, and had a few *mixed* set pieces, with the rest legendary.) (I was about 250 Paragon Level - I ran it more than I should have, though I saw players saying you had to have 'at least' 300 hours to expect set gear. That's crazy, & no thanks.) I was deeply annoyed, also, that the set pieces aim you at one build. I despise the 'changed look' effects - Archon, the Akarat's champion thing on the crusader - and I had no intention of building that way just because a set told me I had to. Not at all flexible enough!

    Gems were stupidly expensive to make, remove (that has been lowered a bit) and generally not something rewarding. It's an attempt to make you play eternally, & I don't find them exciting enough to do that. (I had max level gems on my wizard - there's no way I'd bother with that on another character)

    That brings me to Kadala - whose idea was it to make a snarky NPC who insults you as she gives you lousy, utterly useless gear? She gives you about what you'd get from 2 bosses. Just - no.

    My score is probably higher than I'm feeling about D3:RoS now, but it is a jump up from plain D3, & unlike most games now, allows me to play with friends. (I wasn't interested in public games) I'm sick of mmos, & single player rpgs have a very limited play time. So that's - something.

LoD contained TWO new classes to play along with the new act, more levels, and more items to tinker with. However RoS doesn't offer as much.

    -New Skills w/ new runes
    -Torment Levels
    -Shared Paragon levels

    The Bad:
    -One new class
    -Act V is short
    -Old gear is useless
    -DPS calculation still rudimentary
    -DPS heavily relies on critical chance and critical multiplier.

    All in all, the game is still addicting but when a'' you're gunning for are crit items and perhaps using one main element, the game doesn't vary much after that. If you want to level faster and find stuff faster, then join all public games or play with friends. You'll blow through levels and runs so much quicker.

    After hundreds of hours of gameplay and participation in many of the seasons and changes this game has gone through, I can give a quick overall assessment. I was a huge fan of Diablo 2(thousands of hours), and everyone with experience knows this game does not live up to it as a successor. I overall though have to say I am not thrilled with how this game started out or the directions it went, but I strongly feel giving this game anything under a 7 is unwarranted due to the amount of fun it provided while I was hooked.     I gave an high score to this game when ros released, but now i think, after playing many hours in every present arpg, Diablo 3 reserve a score of 7. It has polish, high polish like every blizzard product, but dosent offer enough depth and is catered to much fto a casual crawd.     My score is 7 because Diablo is set on the right track. Better late than never. Yet there is not enough material to say that this is a decent expansion, they should've better called it a dlc pack.

    I liked this expansion as it did a lot to improve D3 as the original was poorly thought out the fact that Blizzard removed the AH is a huge plus because it means you have to now work for your gear. Grinding can be boring mind you.     Let down was the rip off price for the collectors edition no way was I paying £60 for a mouse mat and a book of artwork given what they gave me in the main one was so much better..

    A much needed improvement to Diablo III. The soundtrack/score & art style RoS uses really transports you into the world. The bounties and Nephalem rifts add much needed variety to D3.

    I would give this expansion a 9 but:
    1. This expansion isn't worth $40 (Maybe $25-$30)
    2. Kadala (Blood Shard Vendor) Legendary Drop rates need to be fixed
    3. The story has no real substance

The new act is a lot of fun for the most part, though the pandemonium fortress is kind of a letdown for the big clamactic ending.     The bad...Rifts are far and away most efficient/best way to farm itemsupgrades and are honestly, not a lot of fun. They are completely random and while some are ok, many others are just an absolute pain...you get to where you enter the rift and just roll your eyes when you see the layout/mob density or lack there of. Bounties are my favorite, but are unfortunately at the moment, best and most effeiciently farmed on the easiest difficulty level, which is not a lot of fun. There is really just an overall lack of rewarding things to do, its basically rifts one after another after another or easy mode bounty runs.
    The Ugly.....Blackthornes...anyone whose played will know what I mean by this. No trading, 9/10 "legendaries" you get will be absolute junk. Drop rates would be fine if trading was allowed, but being that game is BOA and all self found, it needs a bump ina bad way. Clans are basically pointless. Communities are about the same. There is essentially no reason to ever interact socially with anyone in this game. And theres the coup de gras.....the new PS4 version will have trading, gifts to send, nemesis mode, basically all tyhe things the PC fans have been asking for, and they(pc gamers) are now getting a huge FU from Blizz for doing nothing more then being the first ones to buy and support D3:RoS.

    The new expansion for Diabo 3, Reaper of Souls, improves the gameplay of the original game in many ways. Gone are the days of having to suffer through the same Act facing the same baddies; the introduction of Adventure Mode adds more replayability to the game by varying the play through bounties. Bounties are specific missions that the game offers to you, and upon completion you are rewarded with rift keys. Find 5 rift keys and you may enter a rift, a fancy way of saying randomized dungeon with enemy combinations not seen in the regular game. A very good enhancement to the game as a whole and does improve the lasting appeal of the game.
    Loot 2.0 is exponentially better than it's predecessor. Blizzard seems to have taken the "less is more" approach to loot, as now enemies drop less loot, but the quality is far better. My level 60 Monk was finding magic and rare items of equal or better value to my Legendaries from the original Diablo 3, and the same can be said for my barbarian character and wizard. Also, utilizing the "smart drop" system they have implemented, Blizzard has ensured that a legendary drop will peak your interest, as the chances of not only one dropping but one dropping that caters towards the character you are playing as has dramatically increased incentive to play. And the new mystic NPC allow for enchanting an item, effectively changing one of it's stats in the hopes of getting a better one; as well as one of my new favorite, yet very simple features, Transmogrification, which is a difficult way of saying "changing how you're stuff looks." Even though it's a simple concept, I love the idea of being able to change the aesthetic of my character.

    The campaign part of the expansion does feel like more of a DLC addition than a true expansion; it's short (about 4-5 hours long depending on the difficulty), but that's not to say it isn't enjoyable. As someone who really likes the lore of the Diablo universe, there is a treasure trove of history and lore here that I truly enjoyed discovering. The art direction is great, dark tones contrast the lighter blue of the allies of death. It is indeed a good looking, polished graphical expansion.

    Even though this review may paint a rosy picture of ROS, the truth is that I don't believe D3 will ever be as good as I feel D2 was. The removal of a point based skill system, and the subsequent implementation of the rune system D3 uses, seems to be nothing more than an illusion to hide the lack of depth in the game. I can oftentimes swap runes on my skills on the fly, with no repercussion or positive differences noticeable on my character. In terms of gaming, there is a very shallow "build" pool for characters, and ROS only seems to alleviate this matter slightly. Now, with the revamped Paragon system, I could see how in the future, after massive amounts of time have been sunk into the game, one could create a truly unique character, but for the majority of players the depth of a true RPG just isn't there. Blizzard took away the consequence/reward of character choices, and in turn took away the complexity and uniqueness of the D3 characters. It is obvious that with ROS they are hoping to reverse the affects of this decision to a certain extent, but for now their changes to the game with ROS are a small fish in a big pond: too small to make a true dent.

    Bottom line: I find myself drawn back to D3 after many, many months of not playing, enjoying the expansion overall. But I can't imagine it holding my attention for more than a month, tops. While it is a vast improvement to D3 pre expansion, it is still nowhere near the echelon of quality we have come to expect from Blizzard. It's fun, but for how long?

    My fan heart for Blizzard kinda went to hell when D3 & S2 fcked me. Still, i think this expansion is a decent job except that it costs too much for the content. being mindless AoE killing machine is actually fun ! Easy to play, something to dig in .. I'm pretty sure this is NOT BAD at all
    but u know some people expect a bit of more creativity and originality.

    Loot 2.0 and Adventure Mode are not part of the expansion...Every player that owns the base game get those upgrades so your 40 bucks does not go to that.

    Having played all games throughout the years one can only honestly say that this franchise has come (and gone) a long way... Sadly for me personally, it looks obvious where Blizzard is taking us with both Diablo & Starcraft.. To me it looks like they're wanting to become like EA more and more every time they release a game or more so an expansion... But hey, if that doesn't bother you, then it's fine by all means right! As for now, I'm not convinced this is the right way to go with this franchise.

Had no resemblance to its predecessor and felt as though the name shouldn’t even be on the game. With time though blizzard manage to get some of their flaws together and bust out this expansion. They have added some end game content and made loot a little more fluid, it has a long way to go but its on the right path.

    Gameplay: Fun, solid, fluid, feels clean and looks good. Typical monster slayer game with lots of loot to go around. Improved a lot of aspects from diablo 3 and keeps people entertained. Improvements coming out relatively fast in the form of patches to make sure the game is what the people want. It lacks a lot of creativity though as builds for characters are pretty much cookie cutter. As in only certain builds are viable for endgame content. Also specific items are the best for certain classes. In other words if you want to have top level gear and top level damage you pretty much have to follow in the footsteps of everyone else which makes it kind of depressing.

    Overall this game is crazy amounts better than diablo 3 but still needs improvement to be a game that is in the same league as diablo 2 and 1.

    I wouldn't call this an expansion... as many other people have noted, this is more of a DLC made to feel like an expansion. Way over priced for what you get; 99% of the same loot but with a higher level cap and a half-assed story that ends -very- poorly... not to mention it feels rude to the players at times. Smooth launch??? the game is already live, it can't launch twice! However! manyI wouldn't call this an expansion... as many other people have noted, this is more of a DLC made to feel like an expansion.     Diablo 3 in general is much different from the first 2 ones. That's not a bad thing, it depends on what you are expecting, and if you are new to the genre, you should buy it along with this expansion, it's not really long but it is entertaining.

    The only thing that I would complain is the price, 35 Euros are too much even for a good expansion, but if you enjoyed Diablo 3 then don't

    Yes the fifth chapter might not be as strong as the initial story ever was, but the adventure mode makes it a lot more fun to do!

    It actually (finally) is rewarding to grind this game and there are numerous ways of getting better gear!
    Crafting also has gained a little of it's glory back in this update.
    The thing I do like most of this game is the difficulty of staying alive on the higher Inferno levels. One mistake and your dead, makes it feel a lot better when you accomplish killing an elite group, mini boss or boss!

    In the end I do not recommend this game to people who love a great story.
    For one playthrough (maybe two) it's alright, but after that the story is very thin.

    However if you like mindless hack 'n slash and grinding for gear, this game is great!
    The combat is great and has pretty deep skill combinations and strategies with gear/skills to do most damage and stay alive!

    Overall this game deserves a 7.

    adventure mod is nice. rifts, bounties kanai's cube are new things. more playable after game finished. act 5 is interesting. it is likely diablo 2 and this is good and harder than other acts. new items are more balanced but still no pvp in game and doing same things boring. scenario of act 5 terrible like others. and playable/price is low

    I have never get into D3 end game content, it is just not enough to get me hooked in. But the story and gameplay of D3 are quite good. I think D3 is pretty good game but it is not for everyone. If you like graphics of D3 and like toon of farming, have friends to play with I believe you can fully enjoy it. If you dont like farming like me, I think you can still enjoy the main story of theI have never get into D3 end game content, it is just not enough to get me hooked in.     I did play Diablo 3 when it first came out and beat the game in less than a week and forgot about it - to be honest I was pretty disappointed and found it wasn't quite to my liking.

    I decided to buy ROS just around the time they released patch 2.4 (I believe) which is Season 5. I could tell upon playing the game again, that they had made a lot of changes to the game and a lot of improvements to when Diablo 3 first came out. The progression feels a lot smoother, (though a little too easy), the gear management, customizing and upgrading systems makes things interesting, and the spells and different character builds are fun to play around with. What is interesting is there are gear incentives to switch builds as well.

    As a stand alone game (and not comparing it or basing it off of the original Diablo games) it is an entertaining game and I definitely feel like I got my money's worth for around $20 for the expansion pack. The new seasons that come out every 3 months or so give incentives and new content such as gear, and dungeons which, for me, made the end game enjoyable. However the problem I ran into was that after I finished the basic incentive tasks for the season I shied away from the game altogether. It just seems like after a certain point you are grinding into oblivion (which some people may enjoy), constantly upgrading and improving gear, but since playing through the campaign and adventure mode is stimulating you with new content, the end game, to me, seems pointless.

    Now, I would like to end by comparing it with the previous Diablo games, mainly Diablo 2.

    Story:
    What was (more) interesting about Diablo 2, was for one thing the story was dark, grimy very oblique at times and highly stylized. Diablo 3 took the Diablo world and established it for an all encompassing audience, which is fair, but the Diablo 2 environment seemed to have horror elements that intrigued me more-so.

    Creatures/gameplay:
    Though Diablo 2 ran on a different engine than the updated and smooth Diablo 3 engine, I found that whilst playing Diablo 2 I paid much more attention to the monsters, and the environments. I think part of this has to do with the difficulty (I'll get to this shortly) - you pay more attention to killing things that really ARE a threat to you. I read another thread about this, and some people speculating on the dimmer lighting in Diablo 2. However, there are some really cool environmental effects, and creatures/creature animations that are in Diablo 3.

    Difficulty:
    The difficulty in Diablo 3 was a really big problem for me. For one thing there are at least 10 different difficulties to choose from. The difficulty incentive was confusing for me because you can easily exploit the game by playing minimum difficulty levels and slowly upping the difficulty so you are sort of 'one step ahead of the game', though if you are a speed running type there is a pretty even threshold of difficulty which can make the game worthwhile. Personally I did try to stay pretty high in difficulty to maintain a challenge, but I found the whole difficulty system to be "average".

    In comparison to Diablo 2 where the difficulty seemed to always be a step above you (to Diablo 3's one step below you) so that you really had to work (with character and gear) to progress through just 3 basic difficulties. For some reason that made the grinding more worth it.

    Multiplayer:

    I am not a fan of the new battle.net format, and I found this game too difficult to really bother with the multiplayer aspect. There are pre-made guild channels, and the whole multiplayer format is too 'other-worldly' for me. The old Battle.net (via Diablo 2 for example) kind of defaulted you into channels and guided you into the multiplayer aspect of the game - I found at least - whereas the new battle.net has it sort of the other way around. Plus the leveling system, which works as something called a paragon, which means once you max to level 70 you get +paragon levels which give you stats, and these paragon levels can range from 60-800 or something, so I feel the multiplayer is probably pretty coordinated around meeting specifications. Trading was also a big aspect of Diablo 2, not prevalent in Diablo 3.

    However, all in all, Diablo 3 did improve upon what a lot of features in Diablo 2 were frustrating and lacking. The downside is that it dampened on the aspects of Diablo 2 which were dark, epic, and challenging. Unfortunately it feels like an entirely different game altogether, which to be honest I probably would not have played had it lacked the Diablo name. That being said, it is a well designed game, by a thoughtful and innovative gaming company that really did draw me in and was fun and entertaining for the time I was engaged in it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All right expansion, mostly worth it for the extra character.

    Diablo III – Reaper of Souls is an expansion for the main game and features a new map/area to go to, as well as a new campaign and an extra character, the Necromancer. It follows the exact same principle as Diablo II – Lord of Destruction.

    I always found it funny that, in Diablo II and Diablo III, you slay Diablo, evil itself, the Prime overlord of hell and after that, the campaign goes on casually and you need to defeat the “true end boss” of the game because of the expansion. Nevertheless, both expansions worked out fine.

    Diablo III – Reaper of Souls is worth it, mainly for the Necromancer character. Although the Necromancer feels very overpowered in the beginning, it gets balanced out with the other characters later in the game. His mechanics, attacks and skills are cool, and his animations and blueish glowing aura make the character complete.

    In terms of the rest, the newly added campaign (or to be more specific; act) is all right. It has a classic and cliché story about a rogue angel Malthael, who turned into the Angel of Death. This of course, means that he raises the dead and wants to conquer the world (or wipe it out, whatever).

    It is a fun little story with some new unique terrains and environments, some cool new enemies like the Rat men and the Boggits but also some cheap and recycled assets like “Revenant archers”, “Shield Barrers” and “Revenant Soldiers”. Those are recycled skeletons from the original game and feel lifeless (yeah, I know) and rushed and I didn’t get any satisfaction when wiping the floor with them. Mainly because there is nothing to wipe, because they just go up in smoke. The lore tries it best to put some life and connection into these new enemies, but for me, that failed miserably.

    The boss battle with Malthael was good and rewarding tough and he was hard as bricks. This fight redeemed some fun I had with the game.

    Overall, Diablo III – Reaper of Souls was not the worst expansion I have ever played, it was just not impressive of unique enough for me to care that much.

    The issue is this - intervals where you get no loot. When you hit the loot level (70), you should be rewarded for hunting for loot. As you colect items that increase your power, the time should increase between upgrades. Instead, you get to 70 and are stuck in lower difficulties forever because magic find no longer exists on common items. You cannot increase your odds for finding loot that allows you to progress through the difficulties. You will get a legendary ever 2-3 hours because there is a loot timer. It truly is loot on rails. The problem is far greater in hardcore.

    That perfect item progression from previous Diablo games is still missing, but at least we have bounties and rifts...right? Ahem.

    Oh, and cinematics? None. Where did Blizzard quality go?

    The expansion adds the new Crusader class to the list. Its a Strength based character that tends to lean more towards a tank than anything else. Its not terrible and the dialogue written for it is pretty entertaining. The other classes receive one new attack ability and a few passive ones. The level cap is up to 70 so it gives you something to work towards.

    With the revamps to loot as well as enemies being based on player level as opposed to game difficulty it makes the dungeon crawl a lot easier. However, this expansion feels a bit puny and may deter the more "hardcore" players since getting the best loot is not terribly difficult anymore. Plus its still always online which probably won't go away for a long time (if ever).

    - The expansion is short, you can easily complete it in around 2 hours.
    - The story wasn't memorable or very exciting.
    - For a full priced Blizzard game I would have like a proper cinematic ending.
    - Lack of innovation, LoD had the new rune system making socketing items interesting and exciting. D3 just gave us more stats.
    - Lack of difficulty, I'm not played up to 70 on my hardcore character yet but even on the Master difficulty seemed quite boring and easy, I found myself falling asleep when I wasn't tired. Didn't really ever feel challenging or exciting, more of the same trash mobs from Diablo 3 and not enough fun with the boss fights. I used to love fighting to get to Ball or Diablo to get epic rewards, this simply isn't the case.
    - New Bounty system helps with some of the staleness from the original but gets old quick.
    - Itemization and drops are a lot better than vanilla.
    - Paragon levels simply aren't as good as trying to level up to 99 with experience loss / difficulty that D2 had.
    - Great graphics and some nifty events and an enjoyable but short act 5.

    So I'll give this a 6, its good for a couple of nights however I cannot see myself playing it long term which is disappointing, every few years I return to play D2, but unfortunately I feel D3 is just too a too bland and generic experience.

    Blizzard did the obvious: literally transformed Diablo 3 to what it should have been from the start. It took them some time, but finally Blizzard got the message and moved finally to the right direction. While we expect the next expansion, fans of action / rpg can now sleep peacefully ... the king is here!
