As someone who thoroughly enjoyed and completed the original Deus Ex back in 2000, this one was definitely a must. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed and completed the original Deus Ex back in 2000, this one was definitely a must. I had bought the first release of Deus Ex: HR (DEHR) and the DLC, but didn't have the time to play it. When they released the Director's Cut which contained the DLC, improvements and fixes, I upgraded and am finally playing this.

It's an absolutely superb game. It's one of those rare occasions, where they did the original game justice, didn't dumb it down, but rather improved on the gameplay and graphics given the 13 years or so in between. The story is intriguing, and it is definitely one of those games that will suck you in and will keep things interesting. For instance, I absolutely do not mind revisiting a location, or combing every inch just to not miss a particular gadget, credit chip or other goodies. There are also a ton of different paths and even if the game tells you this, I will reiterate it again at this point: Think out of the box! The most direct path rarely works best. Not because you can't use it, but because it is usually the most difficult way.

An all-out assault will only do one thing: Antagonize entire factions and make you literally hide at every turn. It is far more fun to use the stealth approach and leave a location without so much as having raised any suspicion. You will also get the opportunity to augment your character with all kinds of bio-synthetic technology. Word of advice: Improving the hacking and cloaking abilities will make your life a lot easier throughout the game!

DEHR perfectly combines RPG and FPS elements, requires you to think while solving certain (security) puzzles, and there are choices to make that can affect the outcome of a situation and/or the potential reward. And, again, do look around. If you cannot get past a hack, somewhere there will be a PDA containing the code.

A brief note also on performance issues; I had them, too. It's not so much a frame rate drop, than a stutter, as if your computer is trying to load more data. Since there are no texture pop-ins, it's not a performance issue as such though. There are guides with a number of registry fixes which seem to have worked for some people, but not for me. My solution was to run the game at my monitor's native resolution. I found by chance that the game was auto set to 1920x1080 which is fine, except my screen's native resolution is 2048x1152. Once set to that, even on all settings maxed out, no more stuttering.

So, in conclusion, even if you do not know the original Deus Ex (I would strongly recommend you play it just for the sake of having played one of the best games of all time, despite the somewhat dated looks), this game is worth it. You are given a mission, how you approach it, is your call. If you want to go in with weapons blazing (providing your have the ammo for it), do so, if you want to go stealth, do that. Combine both approaches, sure. Trust me, it's going to be a great and memorable journey.

For me, personally, it sits right up there with the likes of Mass Effect and Splinter Cell. Truly epic.

One of my favorite games, incredible characters, world and cyberpunk atmosphere of the dark future. The endings are brilliant, because each time you are not sure which one you'll have to choose. I have completed it twice and I'm not sure that it's over) I guess, I'm gonna get Director's Cut for better Deus Ex experience. And yeah, I fell in love to Adam Jensen :33

The story is extremely engrossing and the melding of stealth/hacking/shooting/augments/cover all into one make it great, it also has a reasonable large choice of guns and a huge selection of upgrades for all of them, as well as the augment differences making it have large replay ability due to the different ways to approach tasks.

I don't think any fan of the original Deus Ex can complain about Human Revolution - it is a wonderful game.

I never rate anything with a 10, but I couldnt find a reason not to with Deus Ex HR. As for the 0 rating a few weeks before mine - the only people that would not appreciate the sheer brilliance of this game are mindless drones with no heart, Deus Ex Human Revolution is an evocative and touching rollercoaster ride of emotion.

Great character progression and very interesting plot that keeps your attention for the whole game. There was not a single moment where I could feel like being bored by the game progression. Combat is versatile. You can either go and deal with everything rambo style or you can do it silently or even diplomatically or even by making up a smart intrigue. You really will never get bored in this aspect of the game. What is more the dialogue options are very well done and are juast as versatile as combat it. Graphics is good and music fits in perfectly. Also the game is very well optimized.

I have just a one element that felt a bit weird - a bit like out of the game and that is boss fight. What makes it weird is the fact that if you make your character progression in other way then you might have VERY SERIOUS problems beating the boss.

Overall that is the kind of game I like and I hope for another sequel in the franchise.

Definitely worth the deus ex name and it is a great reboot of the franchise. It has the rpg elements though I wouldn't call it an rpg. It is more of an action shooter with augmentations. The story is what gets it to a 10 out of 10. It does have multiple endings with the secret societies like the original which makes it a deus ex.

Overall, this is a great game. I wanted to play a Deus-Ex game, but didn't didn't want to play an older game like the original, and wasn't interested in the unfinished Mankind Divided. So this really hit the sweet spot for me.

I have a few minor complaints, but nothing I'm going to knock a star off for.

Complaint #1: The game is YELLOW. I mean, everything is yellow. It doesn't look bad, and TBH I didn't even notice it until someone mentioned it to me, but once you see it there's no unseeing it. Fortunately, there is a mod that makes it less yellow.

Complaint #2: There were a few levels that were possibly a little too hard, even on the easiest setting. This is subjective, though, and I felt a sense of accomplishment after beating them. Also, I'm not the world's best Deus-Ex player, so it might have just been me not being very good at the game. This is very minor, though, and I never had a second thought about finishing the game.

The characters do look rubbery and sometimes undetailed, but the environments are quite often stellar looking. All this eye candy runs at max framerate for me! But graphics alone don't make a game. The story, characters, and setting are all quite immersive. There is conspiracy and corruption abound within the dystopian future of DE: HR, and it provides us with emotionally powerful moral and philisophical implications! A highly reccomended game!! Expand

It's like somebody couldn't put down their yellow crayons. The score is fantastic! My only complaints with the game are mostly nitpicks. The framerate stutters once in awhile and the control scheme takes some getting used to if you have played a lot of triple-A shooters like Halo, Battlefield, and Call of Duty. My only real complaint is the map/waypoint system. It's downright hard to navigate and comprehend, and to date I have not found a way to even set a waypoint. I feel like this game would have really benefited from a guide like you have in the superb Dead Space games. These gripes aside, overall Deus Ex is an outstanding gaming experience with an extremely well written story loaded with conspiracies and multiple plot twists and turns. It's a blast getting to play with all the different types of weapons, gadgets, and augmentations at your disposal. This is hands down my sleeper hit of the summer and will easily keep my occupied until late September when the first of the fall/holiday blockbusters start rolling in. If you have the cash, this game is WELL worth it. It's easily a 50 hour or more experience if you do the side missions and really explore the environment. If you are the type who likes to see all the endings this game can have, then you more than get your money's worth! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Expand

Sure, the "main" storyline's not changed by your choices, but how you persuade people and make them do what you want gives you the ability to experience many things in a different way. For example, for the last boss battle, you need to persuade someone to make the boss battle easier. The more time you spend exploring the little vents and secret places, the more you will experience from the story and perhaps it will help you.
    - Your augmentations or "skill tree" helps your style of playing in many ways. There are times when you regret for not picking a certain augmentation and there are times when you go "damn good thing I picked up that augmentation", because not all of the augmentations get unlocked at the end of the game.
    - The usefulness of everything, from minor to major stuffs. From picking up a "note" and getting a password, to upgrading your hacking skills, nothing gets left behind at the trash can. Truly marvelous.
    - The combat system for certain battles. Yes, most of them are just cover and shoot, but this can be accomplished in many ways, either by buying upgrades and augmentations or by hacking things to reverse-engineer robots. Really damn fun and exhilarating
    - Minigames. They are lovely. Never repetitive enough to bore me.
    - The story. Oh my God, the story's really damn amazing. It is like the most dramatic storyline I've ever seen in an FPS.
    - Persuasion system. The persuasion system is the best thing about the game. Analyzing the situation you're dealing with and persuading someone to help you, best stuff ever. Various stuffs you must understand and keep a lookout for to make sure you win the persuasion.
    - Sounds are awesome, enough said.
    - The HUDs, well, they're damn WELL-DESIGNED, on par with Crysis's

    Cons:
    - As many have said before, the characters' facial expressions are too "stiff" and repetitive, like a robot. Nevertheless, their body gestures are variable and observing them helps us a lot. - The graphics by most are "above average" and gets a raw metascore of 7. If you're looking for the "best" graphics, then you're better off buying another game. However, due to the "polished" nature of the game, the supposed above-average graphics turn into a really good graphic experience. You know who to shoot and who's a civilian.
    - No open roaming of the game when it's all over. Doesn't really bother me, but I think it's disappointing to know that there's no free-roaming when it's all over.

What I did not find amusing are somewhat dated graphics look, occasional freezes and in game map and inventory controls. Also, the way story was told was kind of boring. A lot of emphasis on reading instead of telling it in more indirect ways like Bioshock did (through background voices and videos). The dialogs are also too long for what they worth - they are not changing the game flow enough to justify time they take. The endings are also dissapointing. In fact, there was no reason to have multiple as they basically the same.

With all said, It is still one of the best few titles of 2011 and is a very engaging and fun game. If you liked Bioschock or Escape from Butcher Bay then it should be on your list.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. It admittedly has some flaws (stuttering framerate on a decent PC, janky AI, and boring weapon selection), but the gameplay makes up for it. It's a blast trying to get in and out of an enemy base without being seen, or trying not to kill anybody. I think it keeps the feel of deus ex. If this game sounds fun to you, give it a try. Avoiding lasers and cameras, neutralizing guards, finding secret areas and vents, etc. all work very well and are just plain fun. The character customization is a bit mediocre. Upon replaying the game, I found myself picking the same old upgrades I did last time. It's pretty obvious which abilities are good, and which ones just aren't necessary at all. Adam himself is unremarkable. The graphics are excellent even if facial animations can seem a bit off. The different ways to play (combat, stealth, hacking) are all fleshed out and gel together nicely. The latter point makes me wonder all the more why the game would limit players to only using combat in boss fights. This puts those who played the game focusing on stealth/hacking to be at a disadvantage. I enjoyed the conversation system in this game especially in the instances when a character had to be persuaded into being of assistance. HR is an enjoyable game that shows a lot of potential. The controls for the game were not very well mapped and there were also some redundant features. That being said, the reason why I gave such a high rating was due to how well the story and side stories were told. Deus Ex offers so much in depth content about the people, the environment and the technology. I also have to say that the story was very well paced and it didn't really have many dry spots. The open endedness of the game gives the player much more freedom (ie. there are multiple ways to complete parts of the story).

So, if you are still debating on buying the game, especially two years after its release, get it. It only costs $20.00 on steam.

Unfortunately, the game is not without flaws. The boss fights are practically unbearable, but few. Also, a great deal of the augmentations are related to hacking, and given the vast number of doors/computers/whatnot to hack, not upgrading this path doesn't really seem like a viable option. Thankfully, the hacking mini-game is pretty entertaining. The energy system for using augments is also kind of weird, but not terrible.... I still haven't really made up my mind on it. The graphics are also a little less dazzling than I'd expected.

Ultimately, this game stays very true to its roots, and the many of the changes made are for the better. Even for all its minor flaws, this game falls just a shade under the greatness of the original.

I'm giving it a 10 not because it's perfect (no game is 'perfect') but because it represents the ceiling in modern gaming -- this is what other video games should aspire to be in 2011. Human Revolution allows and encourages player experimentation and freedom. There is no 'right' way to play it, be it good, evil, stealthy, talky, actiony, or any combination thereof. The level design is freeform and there is always more than route to your objectives. The dialogue writing is solid, and the plot is compelling. The augmentation system is fantastic, and if you choose intelligently you can make Adam Jensen whatever kind of superhuman you want him to be. Minor quibbles include some spotty voice acting and stiff animations, but neither detracts from the fact that this a strong game of the year contender. I recommend this to just about anyone who likes video games. There's something in it for everybody.

    1. Environments are way too static. It's 2011 and desk items aren't getting thrown around in a firefight? If I shoot a stack of paper it gets a bullet hole? The coffee cup is still on the table after a grenade went off? The environments the designers made are very well done, and highly explorable, but seriously, there should be more interaction. Cracks on the walls that you can blow up? Really? Is this Zelda or something?

    2. No battery recharge robots...I like how your augs don't last very long in this one, as well as the fact that its hard to take down more than 1 or 2 guys with the instant kill function. However a few more recharge stations here or there would make it more fun.

    3. Realistic mode is a bit unbalanced. I always played Deus Ex on Realistic. I liked how you and the enemies had the same health. This is not the case in HR; it still takes 5,7 sometimes 10 body shots to kill a guy. Granted a headshot is an instant kill, If I plug a guy in the chest, that should take him down too. I'm sure this could be fixed in a mod.

After a second game that didn't get good votes (haven't played that much, can't really compare it) I eventually bought the third, after a big discount (mainly because the first kinda disappointed me in some parts). For some people, this is the best sequel (although it's a prequel of the first game), for some it's as bad as the second game. To me, simply put, this is what the first game should have been, all along. Let me explain: the game takes the mechanic of giving you various way to complete the game, either by sneaking or using the weapons fully...of course since we don't need another fps, sneaking my way out is the most used way. However, Even then, it shows one big flaw that the first game did right: there is barely any exploration. The zones are linear and even though the game rewards you to explore the areas, I always felt I was going down a corridor, without many detours or places to go... I mean, you can't even swim in this game, while the first game had massive areas and a true sense of exploration. Another thing that this game does right (whereas the first kinda failed by me) is the rpg element: each time you level up (by exploring, killing, knocking out enemies, etc) you get a "point" that you need to use it on one of many skills that you can unlock, depending on your necessities...however there's one problem with this system, and that is you'll never know which upgrades to take until you know it. Infact, a lot of times I didn't manage to go somewhere particular because the augmentation I needed wasn't activated, no wonder, but I had no idea I needed that one particular augementation until I physically saw it in front of me. Not a HUGE flaw, but unless you know where to go, you might lose some places to explore, so you lose experience for more upgrades. And for last, one big flaw to me, but this is very personal: the bosses. Ok, also in the first game there were bosses you could fight...but you could also flee from them, the choice was yours. In here, you can't: it takes the formula of the bosses in fps and you're FORCED to kill them, and that's a huge issue if you play the stealth way, because you'll NEVER use any firearm except the stungun or the tranquilizer sniper rifle, especially because your inventory is gonna be extremely limited at the start (can be upgraded, but the weapons take a lot of space and, strangely, even ammunitation take space in the inventory, whereas the first game didn't). Luckily there will be weapons in the room where the boss is, but I wish we could have the choice to skip them. In any case, it's a very good game all in all, with a good story, a good length (20+ hours in, haven't finished yet) and definitely fixes what the original game didn't have (like, stealth kill animations...). Sorry for the tons of comparisons, but since a lot of people can't talk about this game without mentioning the first game, I think some details were needed. Definitely a solid game, and definitely deserves a look, especially for the fans. Expand

I was hesitant at first, as I was a big fan of the original, having played it countless times. Would they mess up the core gameplay? Would third person be a welcome experience or not? Would the implementation of cover be helpful or harmful?

All of my doubts were put to rest after I played it. Human Revolution is a fantastic game, and nearly as brilliant as the legendary original. The numerous paths to completing an objective are still there, the choice between lethal and non-lethal or stealth and guns blazing is still there. The hubs feel fantastic, the atmosphere is gripping and the artstyle is visually appealing. The upgrade system allows for many different playstyles and perhaps even warrants a replay or two. Instead of going on and on about how great the game is, I am going to highlight what I thought was wrong with it. For one, the music isn't as great as the original. Sure, there are some pieces that are fantastic, but these only play during cutscenes. The ambient music, the battle music and everything else just feels generic. After expecting something fantastic, akin to the amazing OST of the original, I was somewhat disappointed. Sure it's better than a lot of other game OSTs but I felt let down.

Then my major gripe: The boss fights. They are unavoidable, and cater only to people who have specced into combat augs, people who have been carrying around numerous guns, grenades and ammo types. As I was playing a non-lethal stealth playthrough I only had my tranquiliser rifle and my stun gun to defeat the bosses. It was tedious and resulted in many deaths.

Amazing game despite the flaws, easily GOTY, pick up a copy if you liked the original, like anything cyberpunk (especially Bladerunner), like stealth games or like good games.

This game could use some better tutorials... It can be amazingly beautiful and stylized at most of the time... but then there are those strange moments were it suddenly becomes very ugly. Character animations are great, while facial animations are not. But this is all just unimportant because the atmosphere in this game is so dense, so immersive that you fall in love... not on first sight, but after 4 to 8 hour you WILL love it. The augmentations are great, the stealth is better than in any recent stealth game... the rpg elements are richer than in Mass Effect 2 but slightly poorer than in The Witcher 2 for example. If you hope for this to be a trulty RPG, do not get your hopes up... there are 2 major city-hubs you can explore... but more than half of the game you will spent on missions.
There are side-quests... BUT they are mostly so connected to the main-story that I would not even call them side missions...
In the end it is NOT a perfect game... it is a fabulous stealth-action game with great rpg elements, a top-notch story, mostly beautiful visuals and sound. I urge everyone to play this game. It is not GOTY in my opinion, but it is a ride worth taken.

Boss fights are a bit crappy as they don't fit in with the stealth gameplay. Graphically... well for DX11 I would expect far higher levels of texturing and models, but in places it shows up some dire examples compared to main characters renders, which usually look pretty throughout. The bio mods are quite good and seem to fit in well, the array of weapons is a bit naff but you don't really need more than a couple to get through 99% of the game, the worst weapons are certainly the experimental PEP gun and Sniper rifle... which border on useless because the PEP is less effective than the stun pistol and takes up far more space and less availalbe ammo, and the sniper rifle is completely out of place in a game with small confined levels. There's a few gameplay glitches regarding the cover system which can get on your nerves... the main one being that you can not blind shoot if the enemy is practically side on even though you can aim at them directly...stupid!!!!

Overall the story is good, although levels are smaller than original games they do feel true to the series, graphics while limited by console porting have been slightly improved with Dx11 effects and should run with very high frame rates even on a modest PC.

I give this 90%, would have scored higher if designed for PC first then stripped down to fit on consoles.

Deus Ex was a game which excelled in all areas but still just had something... missing. The game was extrodinarily fun, had excellent gameplay, above average graphics, some of the best stealth in any game, but still was missing... something. That edge which makes a game transcend the 9-10 border. Deserving of a nine? Absolutely. Ten? Just... not quite.

Awesome story, dialogs, hacking system, diversity of augmentations, adequate amount of guns and gadgets... Every mission is unique and funny. The great thing is also gaining experience in finding secret passages and documents. The only thing I do not like are easy boss fights...

It feels like they try to wrap the story to fast. So I feel like this a game that I will remember as great but I am not sure I will remember to much of the story a year from now.

The voice acting can at times be average at best. At times it feels like the voice actors are just reading straight from the script without any emotions involved. Some of the characters have very little variation in there tone when talking to you it don't matter if you saved the person or killed their best friend the tone in their voice is very similar. It feels a bit like some of the voice actors just wanted to get paid and go home.

Overall great game, I gave it a 9 witch is a bit higher that I would like to give but 8 is to low. Personally I would give it 8.7 Great game with room for improvements.

To be quite honest, I bought this game because it was on sale, having no real hopes of it being anything more than a 10 hour distraction . Well, my first play through ran 25 hours and I'm debating if I want to dive in again because the game is just that engrossing.

Graphically, there isn't much to brag on here. HR does suffer from consolization, but the overall look and feel of the game is excellent. The atmosphere of all the game locations is interesting and compelling enough to make you want to snoop around to try and find all the different things hidden.

Sound is done well, if not slightly repetitive. The soundtrack itself is good, but again, not stellar. Voice acting is done particularly well and helps drive the narrative along. Interaction with side quest NPCs made me want to go do their tasks instead of just seeing them as XP dispensers.

Combat was much more in depth than I thought it would be - the cover system takes a little getting used to and a long time to completely master, but the options are vast. You can roll through killing everything and everyone or you can go secret squirrel style and avoid gun fights if you want. The game has a way of rewarding your choices for achieving difficult tasks, which led me to replay some scenarios to see how I could do it differently.

The RPG Skill Tree is adequate - depending on how you play the game, you can end up with many different abilities. I was slightly disappointed that you can basically max everything out if you are really trying, but completionists can have a field day with it.

I'd give this a 9.5 if I could, it just lacks a little graphical wow and polish, but this is an excellent buy and something you can really put your teeth into. Highly recommended.

Now, it is not a 10 game because it had many technical isssues, like the voice acting, once you play mass effect you discover how good voice acting can be in videogames, the unexpresive characters, the complicated references and a little confusing story make this game hard to play from time to time, but for once in the market, this game makes you think! If you don't complain about irrelevant things such as graphics and controlls (btw, there's key mapping, so anyone telling you the pc controlls are bad is either dumb or didn't gave enough time to the game.) you can easily enjoy this game!

The performance of the game was initially bad for my PC at first, and I have an extremely high-end PC, but I found some quick fixes and won't incorporate that into my rating, because I think it's fair to focus on just the game on not something that probably happened just because of *my* PC, and not the game itself. If you know any Greek you would know that the tone is set in the title; "God of Human Revolution." This game is the prequel to the first; Deus Ex. The events take place in the near future when biotic upgrades can be given to improve one's attributes, whether it be physical or mental. The main character Adam Jensen, a so called "cyber-punk", is the head of security for the largest corporate contributor of the biotic upgrades, also known as "Augmentations." Adam starts out talking with his ex-girlfriend, Megan, who is the head scientist of the same biotic corporation "Sarif Industries." They plan to release a new found science that would change the face of medical history permanently. After a quick debrief, Adam is notified that an "accident" occurred on one of the research floors. He quickly responds, only to find some highly armed mercenaries had broken into the building. Equipped with strength enhanced augmentations, the mercenaries throw Adam through a wall and some glass, fatally injuring him. His last moments of life are spent seeing the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
Because Adam was the head of security at Sarif Industries, he was considered a valuable asset and was treated with care in a costly effort to bring him back to life. With the treatment successful Adam was spared his life, but is now roughly 80% augmentation, 20% human. Six months of recovery left him asking questions of the attack, but no one knew any details. The only person recovered was Adam, and no one else experienced the mercenary attack.
The full game then picks up from there. Now that Adam is mostly made up of augmentations, he is available to upgrade his mechanics. He can only upgrade them slowly over time, however, otherwise what's left of his real body might reject the radical changes in performance. Some upgrades include an invisibility suit upgrade, and another is a sort of Electromagnetic Parachute which slows falls from large heights, reducing any chance of injury.
The game is spent uncovering the reasons of the mercenary attack, because Adam is led to believe it's purely about augmentation competition, but he feels it goes deeper than that. As the player you are able to make any decisions in conversation to try and get to the bottom of your main quest, as well as many variable side quests which can have impact on the game in future events.
The game is also set up to fit 3 different playstyles; Stealth, Force, and Adaptation. The amazing thing about the level design is that there's obviously one way in, but if you are determined enough you can find up to 4 different routes to your objective. There's the front door, back door, window, or air ducts to explore, and each option provides different challenges including: hacking, stealth assassinations, diversions, pure unadulterated stealth, or simply guns blazing.
In the end, there is a crystal clear ultimate goal which until the final boss fight is as murky as an oil spilled mud puddle. It keeps you going to the end, and once you're there you have ultimately 4 history altering options to chose from. Ultimately, you are the god of human revolution.
