    Compared to the non-Director's Cut release, this version of the game is very buggy! Some textures are glitched out and the entire screen occasionally flashes white for no reason (hope you don't have epilepsy!). Apparently old mission/storyline bugs that were patched a long time ago have reappeared, have not been fixed, and probably never will be at this point.

    The changes that the Director's Cut made to the core gameplay basically make the game easier, which I find a bit baffling because the game was already pretty easy. Even on the highest difficulty most of the sidequests are pointless because the game already throws so many resources and ammo at you that you don't need any extras.

    The commentary is fun to listen to and highly recommended. Lots of funny stories and it's quite entertaining.

    Some technical details about how the commentary is implemented are silly: you can't leave an area while a commentary is playing and there's no way to skip a commentary section once it starts. Unless of course the game autosaves or you get a transmission, in which case the commentary will abruptly cut off.

    The commentary nodes are unfortunately also very easy to miss, because you only get a quiet audio cue and an icon in the corner of the screen while you're in the (usually tiny) area where it can activate.

    It's kinda funny: in the commentary you can hear the team talk about all the problems they had with the engine and how they were always working around its limitations. It sounds like they didn't have enough programmers on the team, and probably had none at all for this re-release (hence all the bugs).

    Conclusion: if you just want to play Deus Ex, then get the old version. If you really want to listen to the commentary (it is pretty good!), then get this one and try to ignore all the bugs.    … Expand

The addition of developer commentary only highlights the technical hurdles that the team chose to sidestep (eg no mirrors in bathrooms, an "open world" that resolves into a handfull of simple corridors, etc). The Missing Link DLC is incorporated into the game, but just barely - it amounts to a cutscene'sThis game is fine, but nowhere near as good as popular opinion seems to indicate. Further, the DLC isn't really very much fun to play; it feels like a supermarket, where you have to move from one corner to another to suit the seller's needs rather than your own. Having to execute all these fetch quests is even more obnoxious by the existence of not one but two airlock-type thingies that each take roughly a minute of flashing blue lights to pass through and a two minute elevator ride with scenery befitting a ten year-old game.

    There's some fun to be had here, but it plays like a budget game and not the AAA title that so many would claim it to be.    … Expand

    I had high hopes for this game when I bought it: reading about the awesome story, the killer graphics, the variety of ways to achieve objectives. Within the first few hours, I knew I liked, but would never love this game. It is true, the graphics scale very nicely on the PC version, competitive with current releases (though the pre-rendered video looks crappy when these sequences trigger). Voice acting is quite good, and the story is interesting in a reimagining-the-classic-world-domination-plot kind of way.

    Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to compensate for some serious shortcomings. Within the first few hours I had a loading screen that looked funny – I wasn’t bothered until the loading screen went away and the patterning on the walls was so messed up that I couldn’t tell walls apart from holes and fell to my death trying to get back. Re-loaded: the walls were all bright yellow and I still couldn’t tell what was going on. Kept trying with different save files and eventually restarted the software to get a correct load (fortunately I didn’t have to restart the game or I would have put this down and never touched it again). After that I saved my game A LOT more frequently just in case, which was annoying, to say the least. Other bugs range from story-line critical to merely annoying. For example, some quests and sub-quests do not update, so you have to find the next part manually (particularly annoying in large, multilevel maps). Alternatively, you will frequently find than one or more character models in a “takedown” move are wholly or partially invisible. Of particular note is the game’s annoying fickleness when it comes to knocking out/killing opponents. The pacifist achievement and the “best” game endings are dependent on killing no guards, instead knocking them out. If you are very dedicated to this outcome, you will have to get close enough to check EVERY BODY because takedowns and tranquilizers will sometimes kill rather than stun your opponent. There is no way to predict when this will happen, and reading the on screen experience pop-ups does not always help (sometimes will read “merciful soul” for a knock out, but the body is marked dead). This also refers to another problem: the game encourages non-lethal force but provides few methods to pursue it. You are given 10 lethal weapons, plus grenades, explosives, hackable robots/turrets, and lethal takedowns, but non-lethal is limited to 2 guns, gas grenades, and non-lethal takedowns. Using the same (only non-lethal long-range) gun the entire game is boring, and shows a lack of creativity on the part of the developer.

    In the end, I don’t regret spending $7.50 on this game, but it certainly doesn’t live up to the glowing reviews you see here.    … Expand

    I was really enjoying this game for its graphics, music, game play, and especially its storyline. But then I got to the point where I learned that you're only able to naturally regain one bar of energy--it requires items to regain it any further, every time. I thought it was a bug at first, but nope.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frankly I am asking myself whether this Director's Cut is worth its name. For a start the game looks qualitatively worse than the original with tons of colour-bleeding meaning things look white or red from a distance where you could make out details before, washed down colors, removal of the crayola-golden cyber-renaissance haze which added some cyberpunk feel to the game (not everyone like that but it could have been an option tbh), and graphical glitches like over-sized textures in place while not addressing the real graphical issues such as facial textures and models (i.e. Wayne Haas looks like a 2001 video game character still). In terms of sound there is also a qualitative stepback with cutouts of ambient noise and enforced radio noise signalling a commentary even if you disabled commentary. Also the improved AI acts more weird than before allowing some exploits not possible in the original. On the plus side we have overhauled boss battles from a point of view of someone who has done all battles to the death I found the new options for the most part less effective than the old ways with the exception being Barret but players who are struggling or never played the game before may have a different mindset. The other plus is the included Missing Link which I personally found to be the greatest one because finally it feels more complete and integrated within the game's story that way instead of having to play ML afterwards. The last major plus being a minor disappointment in itself as well: New Game+. Frankly it feels like playing god when you are fully augmented right from the start which kind of makes the majority of the game a walk in the park which could be nice if you are still rushing for missed achievements but it does not add new twists to the game. Especially considering that you keep collecting praxis kits without any use for them. Here they could have enabled little bonuses tweaking some aspects of your augmentations and added a new progressively harder game mode.
    In conclusion: For a director's cut edition I'd have expected more excellence especially since the original was very close to it. As a whole the Director's Cut is probably worth the full price if you owned the original game plus Missing Link before or if you were truly stuck at some bosses otherwise I'd suggest waiting until it's on sale and perhaps until then they will addressed some outstanding issues.    … Expand

    While being a great game in itself, the only thing of value this Director's Cut has to offer is the integration of The Missing Link DLC, which should have rightfully been integrated with the story upon the purchase there of. Eidos-Montreal should not be charging you to fix their mistakes. Aside from a commentary    DEHR? Great game. Director's Cut? A sloppy and unprofessional cash grab.

    Aside from a commentary track, there is little added, except a computer and turrets in each boss room (oh gosh guys, HUGE changes for the better! /sarcasm). The smallest problems with the game are entirely overlooked. Low resolution textures and repetitive models are left untouched.

    In summary: IF you really hate money and just want to play the game through again with the DLC integrated, this is for you. If you want to play a perfected and entirely polished version of the game, then you're going to be sad with Director's Cut.    … Expand

    I've just finished it and I'm left feeling it was decent, but nothing that special. I've always wanted to try the series and now that I have I'm not blown away by it, but I will pick up Mankind Divided once it's heavily discounted in the hope that some small improvements will bump my overall score up a notch.

    I'll start by saying the story itself was great, it was engaging and interesting throughout and the voice acting was really on point as well which helped sell it, the story was what kept me playing until the end. It's just a shame the lip syncing often fell out of sync during cutscenes.

    The gameplay just didn't match quality of the story for me, though, the AI was often quite brain-dead and just clunky, with obvious hard leashes which made tougher encounters easier as you could just run out the door, regain health and go in again. Swapping through weapons and items was clunky and slow, I would have happily spent an augment point on upgrading the speed I could switch weapons but I didn't see one (please tell me I didn't miss it), the cover system was quite awkward and often I'd try to lean out to shoot and the game just wouldn't let me for no apparent reason. One of my biggest complaints has to be the inventory though, I maxed it out but was still constantly full and unable to loot items, if items stacked, or stacked in higher quantities it would have eliminated this major annoyance. I get that they don't want you to carry around everything at once, but I felt it was overly restrictive to the point it hurt the gameplay.

    Technically the game fell somewhat as well, I mentioned earlier the lip sync issues, there was also a weird bug where the combat rifle had slight delay on its audio after pulling the trigger, apparently it's a common issue with Asus cards which I happen to have. I also suffered with a lot of stuttering, especially outside in open cities and once again the Steam forums are filled with complaints regarding this issue, which apparently was fixed in the non DC version, but not the DC which is bizarre to me. I will say I GREATLY reduced this by forcing the new Fast Sync technology using Nvidia Inspector, it eliminated almost all of the stuttering and removed all tearing all while having VSync off so the mouse didn't feel heavy, Fast Sync is incredible and I highly suggest you guys try it in place of VSync as you get all the benefits without the negatives.

    Overall it was a fantastic story let down by the core gameplay and mechanics which felt clunky and often became frustrating. I will say I'm not a massive fan of stealth games so I was probably playing it "wrong", often picking my silenced pistol over simply hiding and dodging enemies which often made the game harder (and it was surprisingly hard even on normal, you die so fast) but that didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the game, other than some fairly large progress losses because the autosave system is quite stingy, I used F5 a lot more towards the end.    … Expand

    Very mediocre, boring game.

    Great atmosphere - I really crave good cyberpunk game - but the story is really lame and gameplay bored me to death. Stealthy gameplay gives you so little fun and so few options - Dishonored does all this 20 times better.

C'est déjà désagréable en soi mais en plus lorsqu'on ne possède que des capacités furtives et non offensives, ça devient carrément casse-couilles !

    Déception certaine donc même si, cette version du jeu reste identique au jeu d'origine avec ses indéniables qualités d'infiltration, de level design, d'interface et de maniabilité, tout cela étant très bien pensé... sauf ces boss à la con !     I enjoyed the stealth part of the game and the difficulty especially in the beginning was very challenging and fair.You couldn't just go guns blazing since you can be easily shot in the face and die from 2 shots.That kinda forced you to play stealthily and since your batteries get depleted every time you do a take down it means that you won't be able to constantly take down unaware enemies.The enemies have pretty decent hearing and sights so it made the player extra careful of their sound ques and wondering if they should kill that enemy or just let him continue his route.By the middle and end of the game you don't pay attention to anything like that since you already have your silences and even if the enemies attack you, you could defend yourself and still have plenty of ammo from their dead cold bodies.The soundtrack of the game was pretty amazing and I enjoyed the cyberpunky techno groovy feeling of it.Most of the characters were voice acted pretty good too.The story in some parts were really interesting but on others incredibly boring, predictable and dull.The speech system was pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot, I just wish it was more polished and had more options to convince other characters.
    Now the BAD PARTS.
    This game has no respect for your time.Most of the time you either walk long corridors or take elevators that go on for hours and hours and you just sit there with your dick out waiting for something to happen.
    The world looks pretty huge and interesting but if you start exploring it you see how incredibly empty and boring it is.The gun fighting mechanics are sometimes bugged and don't work properly making you sometimes die due to a glitch rather than your own skills,The inventory system is incredibly annoying to manage and using an item from it is a hassle.The abilities you can equip are pretty generic and incredibly unfair especially the invisibility one since it kills the entire sneaking aspect of the game(which is 90% of the game ) and it just lets you rush in.You can literally just eat the recharge candy and walk past the entire area without the enemies finding out, that destroys the entire difficulty part of the game.There were also some platforming parts in the game which were unnecessary and hard to pull of due to this game not being about jumping on crates and platforming.The enemies are also one of the most dull witted AI's that were possibly programmed.They just rush you without any sense of strategy and you can pile them up in one small room and throw a nade at them and boom easiest way to kill enemies ever.The hacking parts were also pure random chance that were created to waste the players time until he just gets lucky.And finally the ''Your choices aint worth jack **** bro''No matter what you do in the end you are given some bland choices that decide the entire course of the ending.That everyone is not how you make a choice driven game and it made the endings incredibly not worth it to reach.6/10    … Expand

Надеялся что будет Action/RPG с упором именно на RPG, с кучей побочных квестов и разными возможностями прохождения. Реиграбельностью. И в начале игра таковой и казалась. Но как только сюжет продвинулся дальше Детройта, то все, побочные задание уменьшились сначала до одного на каждой локации, аНаконец-то поиграл в данную игру. Очень люблю оригинальный Deus Ex. От этой игры ждал того же. Надеялся что будет Action/RPG с упором именно на RPG, с кучей побочных квестов и разными возможностями прохождения. Реиграбельностью. И в начале игра таковой и казалась. Но как только сюжет продвинулся дальше Детройта, то все, побочные задание уменьшились сначала до одного на каждой локации, а после и вовсе пропали. Игра стала типичным шутером с RPG составляющей и линейным прохождением.
    Да игру можно пройти как на таран, так и по стелсу, но это ни на что не влияет. Концовки три, но выбрать какая больше по душе дают игроку, вне зависимости от прохождения. Реиграбельности - 0. Один раз прошел и забыл.
    Назвать данную игру - шедевральным возвращением - никак нельзя. Игра не плохая, не хорошая. Она никакая. Разрабы решили угодить ею как олдфагам так и ньюфагам, так сказать решили сесть на два стула одновременно, в итоге промахнулись и ударились жопой об пол.
    Касаемо технической части. Тут все не плохо. Но именно не плохо. Графика порадовала. Картинка очень сочная и красивая. Но решение уйти в желтый цвет и яркую цветовую палитру, мне априори не понятна. Это же киберпанк. Почему он такой яркий?
    Управление - хорошее, отзывчивое. Есть пара неудобных моментов, связанных с кроссплатформенностью, но это не очень большой минус. Если абстрагироватся от этого и играть с клава-мыши, как в обычный шутер, то управление порадует.
    Механики и геймплэй. Все довольно хорошо. Есть маленькие придирки каксаемо, опять же кросплатформинга, но серьезного ничего страшного.
    В целом игра вышла нормальная, но из-за желания разрабов и рыбку съесть и на уд сесть, получилась ни хорошой, ни плохой, а просто никакой. 6,5 из 10 не более.    … Expand

К концу же изрядно вымотала своей затянотостью, однообразием геймплея (последние две локи это полный пиздец), и сюжетными поворотами, которые к концу стали без проблем угадываться. В принципе, если бы квесты были поинтереснее, а геймплей поразнообразнее, получилась бы отличная игра.Напоминала и первый Deus Ex, и Ведьмака, притягивала своим своеобразным смешением жанров.     As a fan of MGS franchise with no kill stealth attitude — I really loved it. Surprisingly enough, not for a stealth aspect but for action and shooter mechanics. It’s not that rewarding to spend hours cleaning and scouting the so-so generic locations, especially later in the game. But it is really fun to combine tactical stealth and brute force shooting with hacking and retreating. I guessAs a fan of MGS franchise with no kill stealth attitude — I really loved it. It’s not that rewarding to spend hours cleaning and scouting the so-so generic locations, especially later in the game. But it is really fun to combine tactical stealth and brute force shooting with hacking and retreating. I guess for a true Deus ex fans it’s a blasphemy, but who cares.

    For a cons:
    - Damn map is the single most retarded map in the gaming history. Especially indoors or in a stupid locations like Derelict Row it is not only useless but confusing.
    - boring bosses and unimaginative boss fights. - predictive plot and really dumb central narrative/conflict. It’s wacky and on the level of a low iq fan-fiction from Alex Jones, although he’s at least funny. But with a good bits from time to time. In general it’s not a con, in no way it’s obnoxious or revolting.

    And that’s why it’s a 7 for me. But the game is good though, I have a strong sympathy for it.    … Expand
