This is one of those games that made me want to get up and start clapping when the credits rolled, out of respect. My only interest in this game was to try out an RPG that I might like, given that it's more action/gameplay-oriented. I'm a bit of sucker for the cyberpunk theme, a fan of stealth and FPS and dislike games which try to hide everything from you. DXHR DC ticks all the boxes. Right from the beginning, the game feels immersive. The story is serious, easy to follow and the whole theme/context of the game blends beautifully with the RPG elements. From a thematic and plot point of view, this is one of the best games I’ve come across – it could easily be turned into a movie. Characters are well-developed not only through cutscenes and interaction but also through meaningful side quests; which are thorough in terms of explaining the reasoning from both a story perspective and gameplay (i.e. the task and reward). Staying on this, DXHR DC consistently informs the player when they’re about to make a major decision or leave an area. It doesn’t want to mislead players or make them reload a save game because they didn’t know what would happen. The only exception is the Missing Link DLC which, although from a story perspective is seamlessly integrated, it is let down by the gameplay. It is the only section of the game that felt laborious, with poor level design and worst of all, it takes away all your upgrades and inventory but doesn’t tell you that you’ll get it back (which, thankfully, you do).
Gameplay consists of stealth, cover-shooting, social (dialogue), a “hacking” mini-game, exploration and inventory management. When combined together, it makes for an immersive experience throughout. Even though the game doesn’t evolve its gameplay, the variety and mix doesn’t make it feel repetitive. Your character can be developed to suit your playstyle – each upgrade being catered to one of those aspects of gameplay. The reason this game feels so immersive throughout is that there’s rarely a dull moment or a part which feels forced or meaningless. Interacting with other characters feels satisfying – as does the stealth and combat. Mechanics, controls and gameplay are all very solid. It is best played with keyboard and mouse as entering keycodes/passwords and general movement and interactions are best suited to this. The game also has a handy quick-save/quick-load feature and, at least with an SSD, the loading times aren’t long at all.
Aside from the gameplay mix, the other great asset of this game is its soundtrack. It is simply amazing and couldn’t have suited the game more. At every point the appropriate background music comes on. Every time I hear the menu theme I feel glad that I launched the game. Aesthetically however, the game is less pleasing. I admire the consistency of orange and black tone, but it would have been nice to have more varied environments, as most of the game takes place in large buildings. The DirectX 11 features help lift the graphical quality of the game though.
Overall, Deus Ex Human Revolution Director’s Cut is a fantastic game with universal appeal. Whether you like exploring a game’s backstory and reading a lot of text, or you like more hands-on gameplay through stealth or combat, or you simply want a game with a good plot, characters and meaningful choices, this can offer all of those. It’s also nice knowing that you can play through the game again (New Game Plus) and keep your upgrades; as it is unlikely that you’ll acquire all of them in first playthrough. There is decent replay value, the game took me about 30 hours to finish first time and all endings are elegantly presented. DXHR DC is a highly robust game which nails all aspects of what makes a great game.

A truly excellent game, finally allowing different approaches to all situation, even the iffy boss battles.

Final levels became a little tedious, but the first 3 quarters are some of the best gaming you can find.

I wanted to give it 9.9, since nothing is perfect, but gave it a 10 as this is the closest to perfection since halflife. The best part of this game is how it is optimized for pc, my **** laptop could run this at full settings!! Shows what can be done to optimize pc games when the devs actually try. I only played the directors cut, but damn glad I did.

The game is even more amazing, tbh I never noticed much of a difference in the graphics department but the NG+ and remastered boss levels are cool additions . I also got the Directors cut on a Steam sale for £3.75 but would pay the asking price . If you have never played it, then get it .

The gameplay gives you a lot of freedom in how you want to do things. In fact, you can go the entire game without killing anyone or go the other way and efficiently murder everyone in your path. You can go a stealthy route, you can get robots, your augmentations, and explosives to do all the work for you, or you can treat it like a good ol' fashioned shooter. The skill trees and the items in the game supplement all these playstyles so none of them really feel left out. It was immensely satisfying to go an entire mission without being spotted or setting off the perfect trap to be able to slip past.

The hub worlds of Detroit and Hengsha Island were great too. They were full of environmental storytelling. I don't want to spoil too much but just know that the level and world design is fantastic. The side quests had some difficult choices to make, and did a good job of showing how the world is at the time of the game.

The main story was entertaining from start to finish, keeping you interested throughout the game. The one complaint I had was the chapter that was originally was added DLC (the Missing Link) in the original version but it was integrated into the main game in the Director's Cut. It personally worsened the pacing for me, but it wasn't such a huge deal as it was interesting story wise. The ending of the main story left me satisfied and was pretty open to sequels.

The characters were good too. The protagonist comes off as a jerk sometimes but I liked him towards the end. All the other characters had distinct personalities, and many of them were symbols for ideas they pushed, which was cool.

I'd say the game has aged very well. It's totally worth playing, even today. If you're curious, you can play this game without playing the original Deus Ex.

    TL;DR at the end

Well well, what can i say?
    I LOVE THIS GAME.
It's probably one of the few games that I bought without knowing much about it and ended up being a real gem. I bought the original game on sale for 2€ more or less and played until the end, very good game, but I didn't enjoyed completely since I went for the pacifist achievement (not a single person should die by you hand) so i couldn't see the real awesomeness of Deus Ex HR, I also failed the achievement... so sad :( After a while the director's cut pops up, with HD textures, new weapons, reworked boss battles (that was much needed), a DLC, but I like to call it an expansion, since it's not the usual DLCrap and a developers commentary. The best thing about this new edition is that it really shows how much effort was put in by the devs, every aspect of the game shows enthusiasm and dedication to the creation and improvement of the game. Let's talk about specific stuff (I like this part)

***Graphics*** 9/10 The graphics was already good from the beginning, but now, whith the improved textures, is even better. The pattern on Adam's coat is one of the first thing you will notice, that floral embroidery is simply amazing. Attention to the details is something that won't go unnoticed when you play the game, from the beginning to the end. When you are talking with someone you can see their facial expression changing, depending on the way you approach them, try not to make people angry or the might not share valuable information. The only thing i can say against this topic it that the graphic seems a bit beneath the level of other games that came out that year (2011), but it's nothing to be worried about, it's a 10 in my opinion, but I can't help myself comparing it to Arkham City (that one was a 10/10 that year).

***Sound*** 10/10 Yep, ten, the music is perfect, no other words. It's impressive, the atmosphere of the environment and the music go arm in arm. For what concerns the sound effects, I have nothing to say except that everything feels right, especially when using your augmentation powers to punch through a concrete wall and break the neck of the poor guy on the other side. Wanna talk about voice acting? Absolutely fantastic, all of them, dubbers really made it big.

***Story*** 10/10 This game is a movie, there is so much in the story that will keep you glued to your PC, so many secrets to uncover that you know people are keeping from you, but the game just won't give you ... yet. You need to reach the very end to know the truth and when the moment arrives the only thing you can say is "OH...MY...GOD! How could I've been so blind this whole time?!"

***Gameplay*** 11/10 Am I crazy ? Yes, ELEVEN. Depending on which skill you purchase you can complete missions in different ways, which sometimes drastically change the game itself. Each mission has a lot of different approaches, let's say you need to go from point A to point B, ok? You can go Rambo style, if you're a fan of slaughter, or you can buy the stealth upgrades to become invisible and silent, if you like to sneak past guards and catch them with their pants down, or you could look for a security terminal to hack and be granted the access to point B, or you could even enter a vent shaft and sneak inside metal tunnels all the way through, sometimes you can even take shortcuts by punching walls creating nice holes ... and a bit of a mess, but who cares. So yes there are at least 4 or 5 different approaches for every mission and this is the best thing about this game, freedom.

***BONUS(ES) of the Director's cut edition***
+ Replayable, with the option to keep the progress from the previous game
    + HD textures
+ A DLC with an amazing story and some surprise for the fans of the original Deus EX
    + New weapons
+++ Reworked boss battles. This need a little explanation, in the original game these battles were really bad, and with really bad I mean they were total crap. You sneaked past every guard with your ninja skills, but then you reached a boss that you could only take down with brute force. Finally, the devs realized the error and created new ways to kill these enemies, of course you can still nuke the **** out of them, but hacking the computer that controls sentry turrets or that release a powerful toxic gas... well, that is really praiseworthy. This shows how much a company that make games cares about players, for this improvement I say BRAVO! to the devs.

TL;DR Game's kicks major asses, if you don't play it you're missing a milestone of the videogame industry.

Apparently old mission/storyline bugs that were patched a long time ago have reappeared, have not been fixed, and probably never will be at this point.

Not sure why none of the mainstream reviews dinged the score for this stuff... Did they play the same game we got?

The changes that the Director's Cut made to the core gameplay basically make the game easier, which I find a bit baffling because the game was already pretty easy. Even on the highest difficulty most of the sidequests are pointless because the game already throws so many resources and ammo at you that you don't need any extras.

The commentary is fun to listen to and highly recommended. Lots of funny stories and it's quite entertaining.

Some technical details about how the commentary is implemented are silly: you can't leave an area while a commentary is playing and there's no way to skip a commentary section once it starts. Unless of course the game autosaves or you get a transmission, in which case the commentary will abruptly cut off.

The commentary nodes are unfortunately also very easy to miss, because you only get a quiet audio cue and an icon in the corner of the screen while you're in the (usually tiny) area where it can activate.

It's kinda funny: in the commentary you can hear the team talk about all the problems they had with the engine and how they were always working around its limitations. It sounds like they didn't have enough programmers on the team, and probably had none at all for this re-release (hence all the bugs).

Conclusion: if you just want to play Deus Ex, then get the old version. If you really want to listen to the commentary (it is pretty good!), then get this one and try to ignore all the bugs.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution gives us a perspective on a potential future for mankind where human enhancements called augments divide humanity into haves and have nots.

    What I liked:
    - A compelling story that kept me going until the end!
    - Tough choices to make, albeit these can be a bit rare throughout the game (it's no Dragon Age).
    - The game truly encourages you to think outside of the box with the choices. More often then not you can find a better alternative for the choices the game presents you.
    - Arguments and conversations throughout the game are not made for the player to win. You have to be careful with what you say.

    What I didn't like:
    - Towards the end of the game you'll get a non optional reset of all the ability points (called praxis points) you got meaning you're back to square one and have to earn almost everything back. This is highly discouraging to continue to play the game but please don't quit. At the end of that section you'll get everything back but it still feels like the game is punishing the player unnecessarily.
    - Very minor graphical glitches.

    Conclusion:
In my humble opinion Deus Ex: Human Revolution has exactly what every RPG should have and should be played by any fan of the genre.
It's a game that doesn't disappoint and kept me wanting for more!
The issues I had with this game are truly minor compared to everything this game does right!

And this is one of the game's strongest points. What also sets the game apart are the visuals. It tries to evoke a cyberpunk renaissance atmosphere and does that well, with the caveat of heavily abusing the brown-yellow color scheme. (The Director's Cut seems to have toned that down, though.)

Unfortunately, the gameplay and the story aren't as strong. It shows that the game didn't have the most experienced team behind it; it was actually the first game Eidos Montreal worked on and released. As a result, it doesn't entirely live up to expectations set by the Deus Ex name.

The game is, naturally, often compared to its acclaimed predecessor. It couldn't ever hope to be as deep as the first game, of course, for the simple reason that the standards and focus of modern developers do not allow for such depth anymore. But this is also the reason, as I said, that it's still amazing how far along the true Deus Ex path they actually got. Since a Deus Ex game has to accommodate several play styles, the developers couldn't help but attempt to develop satisfying stealth, FPS, cover, dialogue, AI and skill systems. That seems to have been too much for them to handle, but surprisingly enough, they pulled it off in a more or less commendable way. The shooting can be stiff and wonky, the cover too sticky, the stealth too easy or unsatisfying, and the story may get fragmented and inconsistent, losing its focus as it nears the end of the game - the ending itself being the game's lowest point alongside the tacked-on boss fights (which were, again, fixed in the Director's Cut). But overall, Human Revolution is a worthwhile experience, especially as a prequel to the original.

I honestly can't believe it took me this long to finally play this game. 25 hours of Pure Awesome! While not immaculate one can't argue that it's simply spectacular.

The story starts out great, but i felt my interest dwindle a bit during the halfway mark. Fortunately the climax of the game re-grabs your attention with one immense swoop. There are also some peculiar life lessons to be learned from the story; should you pay careful attention to it. I'm not a big fan of the way you choose one of the multiple endings, but it's still elegantly done to portray them well enough. I will say no more for fear of spoilers; but the story is surely satisfactory and fitting.

Graphically, the game is impressive. Despite some minor shadow and texture glitches I've noticed that are, for the most part, unnoteworthy, Deus Ex: Human Revolution succeeds in throwing you into a beautiful and highly believable futuristic world, taking place in 2052. It also ran very smooth on my slightly above-average rig, so it appears to be well optimized.

The soundtrack is fitting and decent enough. Some guns sound a bit quirky to me and more modern-aged than futuristic, but its still satisfactory and not really that noticeable.

Gameplay is immensely fun to fool around, just remember to quick save often. I chose the stealthy way to play, since the combat can be quite challenging, especially on a higher difficulty. The augmentation system is so much fun, choosing to be a either hacker and let robots and turrets do most of the work, or to be stealthy and sneaky and take enemies out one by one, or even upgrade armour and health so you can take enemies on Mano-el-mano. Nevertheless, by the end I had nearly all augmentations implemented and could choose any one I preferred.

Map layouts are very dynamic and there are always multiple ways to choose in an area, as long as you're perceptive enough to find them. Although somewhat an open-world game, it does feel mostly linear with only a few detours to take if you choose to do side-missions. Luckily side-missions are quite original and they somehow managed to integrate most of them even into the main campaign.

Characters aren't all as memorable as one would like them to be, but the main ones that matter do appear to have some distinguishable features. Voice acting is good, although your character sounds like he just choked on water or swallowed a fly each time he speaks, it does make him sounds quite bad-ass.. in a Batman sort of way. A gloomy voice indeed.

In conclusion, if you have waited as long as I have to play this, do yourself a favor and buy it already. Once you get into this game, you really can't stop playing until the end. It takes you on a great futuristic ride that makes you question your own moral decisions in a way that's quite compelling. I highly recommend Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The addition of developer commentary only highlights the technical hurdles that the team chose to sidestep (eg no mirrors in bathrooms, an "open world" that resolves into a handfull of simple corridors, etc). The Missing Link DLC is incorporated into the game, but just barely - it amounts to a cutscene's brusque segue into losing all your weapons and skills. Further, the DLC isn't really very much fun to play; it feels like a supermarket, where you have to move from one corner to another to suit the seller's needs rather than your own. Having to execute all these fetch quests is even more obnoxious by the existence of not one but two airlock-type thingies that each take roughly a minute of flashing blue lights to pass through and a two minute elevator ride with scenery befitting a ten year-old game.

There's some fun to be had here, but it plays like a budget game and not the AAA title that so many would claim it to be.

I had high hopes for this game when I bought it: reading about the awesome story, the killer graphics, the variety of ways to achieve objectives. Within the first few hours, I knew I liked, but would never love this game. It is true, the graphics scale very nicely on the PC version, competitive with current releases (though the pre-rendered video looks crappy when these sequences trigger). Voice acting is quite good, and the story is interesting in a reimagining-the-classic-world-domination-plot kind of way.

Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to compensate for some serious shortcomings. Within the first few hours I had a loading screen that looked funny – I wasn’t bothered until the loading screen went away and the patterning on the walls was so messed up that I couldn’t tell walls apart from holes and fell to my death trying to get back. Re-loaded: the walls were all bright yellow and I still couldn’t tell what was going on. Kept trying with different save files and eventually restarted the software to get a correct load (fortunately I didn’t have to restart the game or I would have put this down and never touched it again). After that I saved my game A LOT more frequently just in case, which was annoying, to say the least. Other bugs range from story-line critical to merely annoying. For example, some quests and sub-quests do not update, so you have to find the next part manually (particularly annoying in large, multilevel maps). Alternatively, you will frequently find than one or more character models in a “takedown” move are wholly or partially invisible. Of particular note is the game’s annoying fickleness when it comes to knocking out/killing opponents. The pacifist achievement and the “best” game endings are dependent on killing no guards, instead knocking them out. If you are very dedicated to this outcome, you will have to get close enough to check EVERY BODY because takedowns and tranquilizers will sometimes kill rather than stun your opponent. There is no way to predict when this will happen, and reading the on screen experience pop-ups does not always help (sometimes will read “merciful soul” for a knock out, but the body is marked dead). This also refers to another problem: the game encourages non-lethal force but provides few methods to pursue it. You are given 10 lethal weapons, plus grenades, explosives, hackable robots/turrets, and lethal takedowns, but non-lethal is limited to 2 guns, gas grenades, and non-lethal takedowns. Using the same (only non-lethal long-range) gun the entire game is boring, and shows a lack of creativity on the part of the developer.

In the end, I don’t regret spending $7.50 on this game, but it certainly doesn’t live up to the glowing reviews you see here.

I understand that it's much easier to balance a game when the ability to use the very powerful augments is rare. But in the end, that's the most fun part of such a game: the badassery that they enable. I wish I could have liked it nearly as much as I did the first, but it's still a good game. 8/10

For those who haven't played the original this is the third in the series and is a remaster with all the DLC packages including and a new games plus mode, my favourite feature. This game is all about choice you do what the hell you want to do, whether it run into a compound full of enemies and shoot them to pieces, or simply sneak around them in an air vent, but in this game the killing isn't just the only source of XP but you are actually rewarded for hacking into things and making good use of all the things around you. Still though in fights you need to be well prepared or else your going to find yourself loading back a lot, especially in the boss fights. Fortunately the Directors cut allows an alternate way to defeat bosses for characters not trained in full assault, so as an example the first boss fight with Barrett, instead of shooting and blowing him up you can sneakily climb up a ladder and activate a door that leads into a section where you can hack and move the turrets to attack Barrett if you have the right skills. This game also rewards you for being nonlethal and knocking out enemies which can lead to some consequences like them being woken up and losing precious tranquilizer darts. This game is an improvement to an already amazing game do your self a favour and get this game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frankly I am asking myself whether this Director's Cut is worth its name. For a start the game looks qualitatively worse than the original with tons of colour-bleeding meaning things look white or red from a distance where you could make out details before, washed down colors, removal of the crayola-golden cyber-renaissance haze which added some cyberpunk feel to the game (not everyone like that but it could have been an option tbh), and graphical glitches like over-sized textures in place while not addressing the real graphical issues such as facial textures and models (i.e. Wayne Haas looks like a 2001 video game character still). In terms of sound there is also a qualitative stepback with cutouts of ambient noise and enforced radio noise signalling a commentary even if you disabled commentary. Also the improved AI acts more weird than before allowing some exploits not possible in the original. On the plus side we have overhauled boss battles from a point of view of someone who has done all battles to the death I found the new options for the most part less effective than the old ways with the exception being Barret but players who are struggling or never played the game before may have a different mindset. The other plus is the included Missing Link which I personally found to be the greatest one because finally it feels more complete and integrated within the game's story that way instead of having to play ML afterwards. The last major plus being a minor disappointment in itself as well: New Game+. Frankly it feels like playing god when you are fully augmented right from the start which kind of makes the majority of the game a walk in the park which could be nice if you are still rushing for missed achievements but it does not add new twists to the game. Especially considering that you keep collecting praxis kits without any use for them. Here they could have enabled little bonuses tweaking some aspects of your augmentations and added a new progressively harder game mode.
In conclusion: For a director's cut edition I'd have expected more excellence especially since the original was very close to it. As a whole the Director's Cut is probably worth the full price if you owned the original game plus Missing Link before or if you were truly stuck at some bosses otherwise I'd suggest waiting until it's on sale and perhaps until then they will addressed some outstanding issues.

I've always wanted to try the series and now that I have I'm not blown away by it, but I will pick up Mankind Divided once it's heavily discounted in the hope that some small improvements will bump my overall score up a notch.

I'll start by saying the story itself was great, it was engaging and interesting throughout and the voice acting was really on point as well which helped sell it, the story was what kept me playing until the end. It's just a shame the lip syncing often fell out of sync during cutscenes.

The gameplay just didn't match quality of the story for me, though, the AI was often quite brain-dead and just clunky, with obvious hard leashes which made tougher encounters easier as you could just run out the door, regain health and go in again. Swapping through weapons and items was clunky and slow, I would have happily spent an augment point on upgrading the speed I could switch weapons but I didn't see one (please tell me I didn't miss it), the cover system was quite awkward and often I'd try to lean out to shoot and the game just wouldn't let me for no apparent reason. One of my biggest complaints has to be the inventory though, I maxed it out but was still constantly full and unable to loot items, if items stacked, or stacked in higher quantities it would have eliminated this major annoyance. I get that they don't want you to carry around everything at once, but I felt it was overly restrictive to the point it hurt the gameplay.

Technically the game fell somewhat as well, I mentioned earlier the lip sync issues, there was also a weird bug where the combat rifle had slight delay on its audio after pulling the trigger, apparently it's a common issue with Asus cards which I happen to have. I also suffered with a lot of stuttering, especially outside in open cities and once again the Steam forums are filled with complaints regarding this issue, which apparently was fixed in the non DC version, but not the DC which is bizarre to me. I will say I GREATLY reduced this by forcing the new Fast Sync technology using Nvidia Inspector, it eliminated almost all of the stuttering and removed all tearing all while having VSync off so the mouse didn't feel heavy, Fast Sync is incredible and I highly suggest you guys try it in place of VSync as you get all the benefits without the negatives.

Overall it was a fantastic story let down by the core gameplay and mechanics which felt clunky and often became frustrating. I will say I'm not a massive fan of stealth games so I was probably playing it "wrong", often picking my silenced pistol over simply hiding and dodging enemies which often made the game harder (and it was surprisingly hard even on normal, you die so fast) but that didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the game, other than some fairly large progress losses because the autosave system is quite stingy, I used F5 a lot more towards the end.

Let's start off with the GOOD things.
I enjoyed the stealth part of the game and the difficulty especially in the beginning was very challenging and fair. You couldn't just go guns blazing since you can be easily shot in the face and die from 2 shots. That kinda forced you to play stealthily and since your batteries get depleted every time you do a take down it means that you won't be able to constantly take down unaware enemies. The enemies have pretty decent hearing and sights so it made the player extra careful of their sound ques and wondering if they should kill that enemy or just let him continue his route.By the middle and end of the game you don't pay attention to anything like that since you already have your silences and even if the enemies attack you, you could defend yourself and still have plenty of ammo from their dead cold bodies. The soundtrack of the game was pretty amazing and I enjoyed the cyberpunky techno groovy feeling of it.Most of the characters were voice acted pretty good too.The story in some parts were really interesting but on others incredibly boring, predictable and dull. The speech system was pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot, I just wish it was more polished and had more options to convince other characters.
    Now the BAD PARTS.
This game has no respect for your time. Most of the time you either walk long corridors or take elevators that go on for hours and hours and you just sit there with your dick out waiting for something to happen.
The world looks pretty huge and interesting but if you start exploring it you see how incredibly empty and boring it is.The gun fighting mechanics are sometimes bugged and don't work properly making you sometimes die due to a glitch rather than your own skills,The inventory system is incredibly annoying to manage and using an item from it is a hassle. The abilities you can equip are pretty generic and incredibly unfair especially the invisibility one since it kills the entire sneaking aspect of the game(which is 90% of the game ) and it just lets you rush in.You can literally just eat the recharge candy and walk past the entire area without the enemies finding out, that destroys the entire difficulty part of the game. There were also some platforming parts in the game which were unnecessary and hard to pull of due to this game not being about jumping on crates and platforming. The enemies are also one of the most dull witted AI's that were possibly programmed. They just rush you without any sense of strategy and you can pile them up in one small room and throw a nade at them and boom easiest way to kill enemies ever. The hacking parts were also pure random chance that were created to waste the players time until he just gets lucky. And finally the ''Your choices aint worth jack **** bro''No matter what you do in the end you are given some bland choices that decide the entire course of the ending. That everyone is not how you make a choice driven game and it made the endings incredibly not worth it to reach.6/10

This game is a great experience. The combat and the rpg elements are a bit janky and rough around the edges but the great immersive world, the missions, the superb level design and the secrets outweigh the negatives. I recommend hardest difficulty, non-lethal - which is way harder than lethal ~ 30 hr playthrough. Pritchard/10

Having played, and enjoyed greatly, the previous Deus Ex games, and having seen the trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I purchased it and began playing with a level of excitement I have only had a few times in my gaming life (each Mass Effect game achieved this).

The game did not disappoint, and I was very pleased with the choices the game allowed the player. I chose to try playing as a stealth character without having to kill anyone. Then, I ran into the first boss battle and basically ran into a wall. All of my time developing a stealth character was totally useless in this battle which I could not win with the character I had created. I tried several times and then simply quit playing this game.

Now, with this director's cut, I am overjoyed that the choice is back, and each gamer is allowed to solve tough encounters as they choose. It is awesome that the game makers understood their "mistake" and gave choice back to the gamer who may not want to solve encounters by developing a soldier type character.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Part of the society questions such actions, whether the corporations are playing god and if we are losing what makes us human by such augs, while the other part of the society thinks , life can be hugely improved by them , veterans from war can be amputated , their limbs could be replaced, their arms will be stronger, their mind will be more reactive and faster, their eyes will be able to take pictures by blinking , their lives would be better. The game puts you in a role of an Ex-Swat member , whom after being severely injured when protecting a lab of the corporation he works for , gets augmented, providing players with a very neutral look on the subject matter, where you can either condemn or adore what you've become and treat augmented and non-augmented people with your perception of the moral highground, the plot doesn't get overly profound or confusing at any point , it is long, with each and every detail chewed out for the player, with exceptionally written dialogue , great acting ( especially Jensen's whose voice requires devious amounts of masturbation to fully appreciate) and a rather impactful ending that sums the message of the game perfectly. The setting of Detroit and the premise of the main character , going from a human body to a robot's after being left for dead by his enemies , only to come back and hunt them down is sooooooooooooooo reminicent of Robocop and the yellow-ish cyberpunkatmosphere gives it a flair of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner , it is a game that is masterful and as such is inspired by masterpieces
The gameplay is hard, challenging and very adrenaline inducing , offering various amounts of paths and ways you can handle the objectives ,stealth , aggressive or a mix of both , and the game always penalizes and rewards both of the play-styles , the gunplay is fierce and unrelenting , with some truly badass executions and takedowns , that makes Batman wince and cringe, at the martial arts badassery of Adam Jensen. The game has probably the most unique hacking system i've ever seen , not one game has managed to make capturing nodes and unlocking hidden secrets inside the computer hubs so intense , since after capturing a node a higher risk of detection occurs and you get put in a rushed state of alarm, to reach the main gate control port and unlock the door or flip the security system in your favor in time , ordering automated bots to clear the rooms full of enemies or disabling laser-defended gates to flank the enemy or enter ventilation shafts to sneak past them unnoticed( and there are a lot of vents, trust me if there was an award for the highest amount of ventilation shafts in a game , this game would have won it.........................................several times over). The upgrade system (unlike most other games , looking at you Far Cry 3) is actually very useful , literally every single upgrade is needed and is extremely valuable and it breaks your heart to see that so many of them you could have used to accomplish a mission more successfully went into upgrading something else that was for momentary need, but boy was it something you really needed, besides, you only had one Praxis point, hard to guess which one is the most useful, they require careful observation and experimentation to narrow down the choices , though after completing the game , unlocking all of the augs you do feel godlike , yet the difficulty could always be upped to accomodate your upgrades , so the incentive is there to replay, including multiple endings and dialogue choices that you could have handled differently, during important story beats such as hostage negotiations, information gathering or persuading people, such as convincing someone to turn off inhibitors, that make ordinary civilians into the Westboro Baptist church from Kingsman The Secret Service (seriously that scene only required Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird and that's it church scene "recreated")
Deus Ex Human revolution is a brilliant game, full of fantasticly artisitic, influenced choices towards its story and world/level design , an intricate and fresh take on the action-stealth-RPG genre , that is so rare in the gaming industry today.

The setting is in the U.S city of Detroit (mostly, you'll see what I mean) and everything about the way the city looks and the story surrounding it and the things you can do around the city all make sense and make you want to explore. Some levels are open while others are more linear but the way you can move around both areas is still excellent.
The best for last, the gameplay. The game is an fps, stealth action game with upgradable abilities and a variety of weapons, grenades and gadgets that must be managed properly by arranging them in your inventory box. The gameplay connects well with the story and the setting in that you can interact with a variety of friendly characters, make certain decisions based on your missions, decide how you want to tackle a mission by using your powers through whatever strategy you want and the games negotiation sections which involve seriously discussing with key characters in order to determine the outcome of how the story is going to go.
The game is perfect and the Director's Cut commentary mode that lets you hear how the devs developed the game really opens your eyes to what they went through.

The game as a great atmosphere, narrative and conflict between human and augmented humans. The stakeholders in the history are very realistic when compared to the real world (UN, Corporate Companies). The stealth action isn't for everyone, but what makes the game unique is the thematics, and the soundtrack is fantastic!

As a fan of MGS franchise with no kill stealth attitude — I really loved it. Surprisingly enough, not for a stealth aspect but for action and shooter mechanics. It’s not that rewarding to spend hours cleaning and scouting the so-so generic locations, especially later in the game. But it is really fun to combine tactical stealth and brute force shooting with hacking and retreating. I guessAs a fan of MGS franchise with no kill stealth attitude — I really loved it. For a cons:
    - Damn map is the single most retarded map in the gaming history. Especially indoors or in a stupid locations like Derelict Row it is not only useless but confusing.
    - boring bosses and unimaginative boss fights. - predictive plot and really dumb central narrative/conflict. It’s wacky and on the level of a low iq fan-fiction from Alex Jones, although he’s at least funny. But with a good bits from time to time. In general it’s not a con, in no way it’s obnoxious or revolting.

And that’s why it’s a 7 for me. But the game is good though, I have a strong sympathy for it.

Almost a perfect Deus Ex game, hindered heavily by third person cover system and takedowns. The plot isn't as deep as the original game. Director's Cut version fixes a lot of stuff (like the insufferable yellow filter and nonsensical boss fights) but also introduces some issues in lighting. Must play.

    positive:
    - great world (especially texture) design
    - great soundtrack
    - amazing main character design and voice acting
    - astonishing level of medical and technical terminology and knowledge, but not your typical techno babble from hollywood, but stuff that actually makes sense (or is true) scientifically! Amazing for a video game, felt like reading a popular science article at times.
    - very good npc model design and voice acting overall
    - pretty satisfying and balanced combat
    - well-executed stealth mechanics
    - great story (for a game, though the last few hours were actually darn exciting)
    - enjoyable and well-balanced augmentation system
    - great atmosphere overall :)

    negative:
    - very repetitive world design (especially secondary locations like hotel rooms, apartments etc, plenty of copy-paste everywhere)
    - very poor interaction with npc aside from dialogues (e.g. you can steal money or hack the computer of an npc right in front of them, and they won't even say anything)
    - very repetitive takedown mechanics (same animation for a highly-trained heavily-armoured soldier and a civilian...) and in general quite repetitive/tedious stealth (unfortunately the game heavily encourages it with xp)
    - very poor npc interaction when sneaking (e.g. taking down a guard and pulling his body away some 10m in front of another guard looking my way, lots like that)
    - extremely disappointing boss fights (on the hardest difficulty level...)

This is a difficult problem to solve, especially for AAA titles where each cut-sequence, each line of dialog etc. costs so much. The game is great to play and then play again (potentially in New Game+) just to experience the alternative choices and new gameplay. Eg. trying the game just without picking the "cloak" augment can dramatically alter the way you play. Or instead try a "non-lethal" playthrough. There are some small quirks in the story but the universe is so rich, so well studied and fleshed out. Adam as a character, the main NPCs, the backdrop. A world definitely worth visiting and the philosophical questions asked definitely worth pondering upon. I don't want to compare it with the original game as some people might do, it is definitely a worthy addition to the Deus Ex universe and I would happily recommend it to everyone. Expand
