Jul 23, 2025The Edge of Fate has an amazing story and a revamped progression that works, but the new mechanics and the raid's difficulty prevent it from shining as bright as it could.

Aug 19, 2025Many players seemed skeptical about the direction of the franchise following the end of the light and dark saga, but Bungie has proved that they are still capable of putting together an incredible foundational narrative along with a fun campaign to back it up. If you stepped away from Destiny following The Final Shape, this acts as an excellent point to hop back on. Overall, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is both narratively exceptional and mechanically above-average. While the pricing of the expansion may be a bit steep, if you play Destiny for the worldbuilding and narrative you will be amply satisfied by what the latest expansion has to offer.

Jul 24, 2025It's unclear whether Destiny 2: Edge of Fate offers the meaningful changes the series needs. Many Guardians are growing weary of repetitive content.

Jul 24, 2025Overall, The Edge of Fate is far from the worst expansion that has been released during Destiny 2’s tenure, but as the direct successor to 2024’s phenomenal The Final Shape, it falls short. It reuses old assets, fails to impress with its new environments and mechanics, and the main story seems to stop just as it’s about to get interesting. Of course, that’ll be fleshed out through the year’s updates and seasonal content, but with a distinct lack of anything exciting to do now, I fear I’m on the brink of another involuntary Destiny 2 hiatus.
-
Jul 24, 2025The amount of content, some presentation elements, performances and raid may provide enough sustenance for some, but for others, it only just edges above average.
-
Jul 23, 2025Despite the introduction of a well-written new character like Lodi and the presence of the Nine, the gameplay in The Edge of Fate proves to be extremely repetitive, with dull puzzles and fetch quests that slow down the action. The Desert Perpetual raid offers a few interesting ideas, but the campaign feels shallow and lacking in narrative momentum, leaving the impression of filler content.
-
Jul 29, 2025Story aside, this would be one of Destiny 2's more forgettable campaigns. But thanks to its wide-ranging overhauls, it's become memorable for all the wrong reasons.
-
Jul 25, 2025There are elements of this expansion that are excellent and true highlights for the future of Destiny 2, but there is so much surrounding them that generates no joy whatsoever.
-
Aug 10, 2025With a mediocre story, and infuriating new mechanics, The Edge of Fate makes it clear that Destiny 2’s best days are behind it. With many softlocks and glitches to boot, the new expansion is simply a big old mess.

Jul 25, 2025Destiny 2 finds itself in a weird place heading into its newest saga. In a lot of ways, even for a decade-old franchise, it’s entering uncharted waters. We’ve never had a new saga launch, and it’s clear, through both the story and system changes introduced in The Edge of Fate, that things are going to be different. On the narrative side, the franchise has never felt better.
