A solid blend of Destiny-style action and striking Star Wars elements, the Renegades expansion delivers many hours of excellent fun, giving fans plenty to enjoy while waiting for Bungie to finally confirm work on a full-fledged sequel.

Destiny 2: Renegades is a Star Wars-flavored expansion that’s cringey and light on content, but what’s there works surprisingly well.

Bungie's live-service wonder isn't dead yet, but Renegades is more of a stabilizing addition rather than an infusion of fresh ideas.

With Renegades, Bungie tries an ambitious crossover, but it ends up making Destiny 2 lose its uniqueness. The inspiration from the Star Wars saga feels forced, with a weak story, unconvincing characters, and a universe that ends up being corrupted by alien elements. The campaign is short, the activities are repetitive, and new features are virtually nonexistent. It's only saved from complete disaster by its solid gameplay and a few flashes of brilliance here and there. Definitely not enough to revitalize a struggling live service suffering from an obvious identity crisis.

As of right now, Renegades feels like the expansion that gets Destiny 2 back on track. Whether Bungie can continue that momentum remains to be seen, and much could hinge on what we’re doing in a few weeks, given that we now have less content month-to-month than we used to. Still, with a fun story, great new weapons, and a chaotic new activity stitching it all together, we might just be back. [Review In Progress]
