People who had this game on their old Commodore 64 probably rushed out and bought it as soon as they heard about it. Me? I downloaded the trial version, beat it on the first try, and promptly decided not to buy it. The original DOTC on Amiga wasn't as good as the C64, but it did cause many people to buy Amigas and even to join the SCA. This new version isn't even as good as the original. It has all the same flaws as the original, and then all the good parts have been made worse. The raiding is horrendous, but could easily have been made better. The jousting is not even in a tournament format, like the original. The archery competitions are lame. They could have easily modeled all of these things from the movie "A Knight's Tale"(TM) and had an immense mini game system. And how about the princesses? When you rescue one, it doesn't even show the girl! The raiding system from the Robin Hood version (which was horrible too) was far superior to this one. How can the newest version be that much worse? The biggest problem from the original game was that too many lords were fighting over too little land. The counties needed to be subdivided (about four revisions ago) and yet the knuckleheads who "upgraded" the game didn't think about it. It's hard to imagine what they DID think about when they were making this game. And please, can we make the fighting system more tactical? I don't mind the little figures representing divisions and such, but a better fighting system wouldn't be that hard to make. There's a lot of strategy games out there to model from!!! I think the one thing that people expect from an "upgraded" version is that it will be harder to win. This may be the easiest one of all. Seriously. And that's pathetic. To make this game fun and challenging, it needs to be hard, the situation needs to seem dire and desperate, and Saxons and Normans shouldn't be attacking their allies when there are still enemies out there! But wouldn't an alliance system have been a nice addition. Imagine if one of your buddies allied with a Norman and then attacked you! It would suck, but it would be cool! Oh the treachery!!! So much could have been added to this game. The people who designed squandered an opportunity to make some easy money. This game could have easily been programmed to be a $40-$50 game. And we all would have bought it. If all the fans of the original DOTC got together and designed an updated version of this game, it would be OFF THE CHAIN. I think that is the problem. The people designing the "upgraded" versions are totally disconnected from the originals.… Expand
