There were moments in the game where the soundtrack aligns with the landscape and it manages to capture these moments of beauty that shine through the overwhelming feeling of oppressive hopelessness. Those are the moments that made the game for me. Expand

The game is very unusual, unlike other games, this is its plus. Kojima is a genius. The music is just as wonderful as the gameplay. The plot is super and very complex. After the game, I watched a review of the plot that lasted 3 hours. A masterpiece

Main problem with this game is that it was developed more like a movie than a game. Nobody has observed the development from a gamer's point of view. That's why the gameplay is so boring. They wanted to try something different but I hope the sequel will be different because this way it will never be a game that will appeal to everyone.

Totalmente recomendado

Masterpiece of game design, and really impressive art work. Some players feel boring, but in my opinion The Old Man And The Sea is somehow duller than A Song of Ice and Fire in some perspectives. For me, the game-play of Death Stranding is not good enough, but it leads me into peace of mind, which is rare and commendable.

Great game and it meant a lot to me. I played it in a hard moment at my life and Death Stranding had a nice touch to things that I was thinking at the moment. At the same time, I really think Kojima has overexposed a lot in this game, to the point that it looks like he underrated the playerbase inteligence. I hope the upcoming sequence don't do it again - even 'cause we already know the setting.

Awesome video game with a very (or too) complex story. It wasn't boring for me I found a lot of challenges on every standard delivery too.
The soundtrack is oh my god I loved it (Low Roar -> good choice), the graphics is incredible and the actors are perfect. The game length was 55hours for me, but I liked it, only the last 2-3 hours were too... much? Maybe.

You get the feeling he wants to be a film director instead of a game creator. What you get is a big mess of a story that isn't engaging at all. For a game that relies so much on it's story this is a big problem. Another problem is the resolution. I can't even set it to 1600x900 and I'm forced to play at 1280x700. They didn't even bother to fix this in 3 years. Tells you how much they care about the playerbase.
If you still want to play it wait for a big discount. At full price it is not worth your money.

It's the first time I've ever played a hiking simulator. This is what, at its core, Death Stranding is. A terrain traversal game. I've never played a game before where I was paranoid about tripping, and falling on my face, as I rushed to balance myself. In that respect, it is creative. But do I really want to be a hiking hero? Nah. If they focused on making it a terrain traversal puzzle game. If they made the traversal more challenging and rewarding, instead of the long grind that it is.

The action elements of the game are tepid and uninspiring. I just wanted to turn them off while hiking and get back to not tripping over rocks and staying out of the rain. If they cut all the fluff around it, the acting, the song track, the lame action/fight then they would have a game. At the moment the auxiliary parts of the game, like the excellent sound track, are the highlights. But if I wanted a soundtrack I would have bought it. And that's the problem with Death Stranding. It's core gameplay is too diluted. It could have been a strong terrain traversal puzzle game where obstacles required ingenuity and creativity from the player to overcome. As it stands, the largest obstacle is the grinding hikes around the country, and the second largest is not tripping.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Free drop on Epic games so yeah thanks. I know what I am getting as I spent 160-ish hours in the PS4 version, but now on the superior PC platform.

VISUALS: Death Standing hasn't really any detailed environments, but what it does have looks pretty. This is not an eye candy game for sure. Character models and the VA are pretty good. The rest of the graphics, animations and gameplay all have a dated look and feel about them. To the point it made me think of the PS3/360 era of gaming.

STORY & CHARACTERS. A wild story ride of mad science, unethical experimentation and extinction level events. I like the fact Sam's journey is a representation of America. Both at first broken and disconnected, but then healing and coming together, awh. The game has a ton of unlockable lore, but the general story kind of explains enough of the what, why, where and when.

USER INTERFACE: Controller works fine for all the action gameplay sections. The delivery menu system and offloading items is a bit slow and clunky.

GAMEPLAY LOOP: Using new and expanding tech to overcome the terrain to deliver goods intact so America/Humanity can progress and reconnect again. While dealing with the odd bandit aka Mules and the minefield like areas of poltergeist-ish BT’s along the way. While maybe picking up lost orders/gear along the way for the player base and/or NPC’s.

DIFFICULTY: The weight distribution and terrain mechanics make for tense gameplay early on even when going slow. While tech limits makes for more tense encounter with the Mules aka bandits and BT aka poltergeist minefields. After completion of the tutorial zone the amping up of the expanding tech in the main zone allows the player to dominate the terrain, Mules and BT’s very early on (even on very hard). So gameplay wise this is not a very difficult game for the most part. Even boss fights are fairly easy.

PLAYER PROGRESSION: Character wise we see Sam opening up over the course of events. After being shut off for a very long time due to a personal tragedy. This game also does really give a good visual sense of player progression beyond the story progression. In seeing new levels of expanding tech/buildings dotted around the landscapes where none was before.

ONLINE: The strand effect which is basically people (the gamers) who have never met working in tandem consciously and/or unconsciously to create a unified collectivist goal. Nobody seems to get paid money for the work? So in Sam case the labour contracts are for housing/equipment deals. The United States of Communism, oof.

MULTIPLAYER COMPONENT: Without online and a player base this game would maybe suck due to way more grind for resources and part of the games actual story message would be lost. I would not want to play this offline with no player base for sure.

CRITICISM: The creator can be a bit obvious at times story wise. The perils of technology of going to far to fast. In what makes up the fabric of society and advancement in civilization. Which is why mission giving NPC's are so named by the job they do.

Constructing those super high ways was an annoying resource grind, but they do allow for faster smoother travel of larger truck deliveries. So the super highways do save time in the long run and I have spent 160 hours in this game in one run, so.

The off road driving physics are trash and so is the off road driving collision physics trash. The fact I spent a lot of driving off road early game led to many an ARGH moments.

Even with auto skip on and button bashing as fast as I can. I still can't skip that spreadsheet delivery data fast enough after each completed delivery. I must be into the hundreds when it comes to deliveries made? All that bookworm delivery data gets so old real fast.

Oh that out of context with the whole of the game Higgs Boss fight is total left field BS.

HIGHLIGHTS: Speed exo suit and sticky gun! Never has hording stuff been so fun! Death Stranding is weird and everything feels off, wrong. From a post apocalyptic event rises a dystopian society. With Sam's final act of defiance against the dystopian system creating such a fist pump ending. Finished my 2nd run, but 1st run PC. The games performance was smooth and stable on PC compared to PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is, by far, the most hit or miss thing you could ever possibly develop. Firstly, the good: I found the story to be really engaging, the characters being somewhat interesting(and with actual personality) also helps out. for example, Heartman searches endlessly across potential MILLIONS of beaches for his wife child. Deadman was grown from a lab, and as such, has a unique fascination with the dead, because HE'S dead. The gameplay too, while very same-y, is fun, at least for the first few missions. However, as with every game, there is plenty of Bad: For example, the combat of Death Stranding Suuuucks. The enemies that you fight Aren't different throughout the entire game, the only difference being the terrorists and MULES. on top of that, this game is VERY easy. when you're actually doing combat, you can just run circles around your enemies, and they can't hit you. The bosses are also incredibly easy, even some of the later fights. And the cherry on top, is this game is very unstable. When I first got it, I couldn't even launch the game, because it wouldn't stop throwing errors, and sometimes, the game wouldn't even launch at all. When I finally DID get the game to work, the crashes are plentiful. one time, right at the end of the game, It crashed as I was watching Sam come back to life, and had to watch the hour long ending sequence AGAIN. speaking of things being far too long, I'd estimate about 40 to 50% of this game to just be cutscenes. all-in-all, this game could've done with a little more time in the studio. 7/10. There was 1 technical issue: after a few hours of playtime the game stopped loading textures which lead to massive glitches, so I had to regularly restart it. Also it was disturbing that the game forced me to watch the credits 2 times before the open world ending. So, the game kinda has 3 consequent endings and forces you to watch the credits.
But everything else was very good. Unique story with deep meaning and encrypted moral, unique gameplay, good graphics, immersive art, professional acting, high quality VO.

The big pain of playing this game is the mediocre-to-terrible gameplay experience you're going to have. Awful controls and responsiveness, terrible UI and UX, god awful combat, and suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper drawn out and convoluted exposition that all gets thrown out the window anyway because Kojima spoon feeds you the entire story in the last 2-3 hours of the game anyway.

I've seen some gameplay of the Director's Cut though and it looks quite a bit better than the base game, please go for that instead over the base "game".

I approached Death Stranding twice. I spent a couple of hours with the PS4 edition and was fascinated with it. I kinda wish I stopped at that and let the game remain a mystery to me rather than complete it later on PC and be disappointed. There are moments when Death Stranding eludes the traditional 1-10 rating system. There are moments when it sets new standards and becomes a truly special experience. But those are just moments scattered throughout tedious gameplay. Still, it is in my opinion one of those games you simply need to play. [10/2020, p.44]

Death Stranding is asking you to find variety in a daily rut, cooperation possibilities for a character who has fear of contact, scientific explanations in clear-cut mysticism. Today, you’re annoyed that the story doesn’t move forward, and you have to trek into the same ghost-infested area as before, but tomorrow you’ll gladly spend a few hours hauling resources for a new highway and feeling good about it. This source of joy is very weird and defies explanation.

Death Stranding on PC is the best way to experience this journey. Game is much more than a walking Sim, it mixes and matches a ton of brilliant new ideas and game mechanics. It is bursting with atmosphere, and the overall quality of the production and presentation is fantastic. Other than minor issues and some non-consistent storytelling, Death Stranding shows us that boundaries can be moved in the today gaming world.
