This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you are expecting Monster Hunter World levels of quality run away right now because this game is anything but good.

Monsters get their parts back when they enrage so even if you cut them off they can still use them.

Hit detection is sever side and it's laggy as hell so have fun getting hit by attacks that didn't render yet.

Grindy as hell since you need cores (that the monster doesn't drop) and parts that have a stupidly low drop chance. Have fun killing 50 monsters to upgrade your 4 pieces of armor.

Pay to win **** mechanics like timed lockouts on upgrades.

escalation hunts that basically force you to unlock the same talent tree five times where all five talent trees are the god damn same.

Lagging in solo lobbies because of their **** server system.

This game does absolutely nothing well. Monster Hunter world is the better game in EVERY SINGLE WAY.

this shouldn't even be considered a game because you will most likely get a crash 12 seconds into the game because the developers cant code for jack

The core design and implementation of Dauntless is broken. The entire game seems to focus on flair over function. Each patch introduces or reintroduces awful bugs; this game never truly left beta.

Try out the game. The first few hours are fun, like any demo, but do not make a purchase on the expectation that you will enjoy it for hundreds of hours until you have already realized it. Do not support incompetent developers.

The game elements mesh together artistically, but that is easy to accomplish with mediocre graphics. Slayers do not feel like they are designed to fight behemoths, instead their animations are suited to fighting immovable cubes. Dauntless is designed to be a comfortably difficult game, yet many players find it too difficult because progression is far too fast, which is bad given its incredibly simple game play loop when compared to the Monster Hunter series. When players do reach the end, after maybe 20 hours, there is no meaningful end game content. Behemoths are far too easy to manipulate, and fights become unsatisfying and short outside of speed runs, which at the competitive level are dependent on random critical hits.

Phoenix Labs is active on social media, but their employees are not really listening. They only want to post jokes and bask in the flattery offered by naive newcomers. They ignore plenty of feedback from veterans, probably because they are too invested in their terrible design decisions. Phoenix Labs is designing Dauntless to suit their wallets and their vision, not the community's vision, and I can respect that, but the result is unsatisfactory.

The problems with Dauntless are low-level such that it is not feasible for Phoenix Labs to rebuild the game - it would consume too many man-hours while not providing revenue. It is too late for this game to be anything more than disappointing after a few hours.

If Dauntless were an offline, single-player experience, I would perhaps give it a 3. But as a flawed game that is only becoming worse with each update, it deserves a 0.

As of December 3rd, the update 1.5.0 has absolutely gutted everything you knew about the game, and threw on a new system that FORCES you to grind even harder for upgrade. Avoid it.
The game itself is "okay" in the short term BUT and thats a big BUT the Team behind it is BAD.
Sword was the most liked weapon to play 2 Years ago, what did they do? They revorked it and made is **** to play. (one of the least used weapons now) They say they bring new stuff but they don't the new stuff is the same Monster with a different element and color. Eather Striker are

Eather Striker are first weapons in this game they where op when they got released 4years ago and to this day are still the ONLY viable option if you want to get good at time trials.

If you don't want to pay money get ready to grind for days and hope you get lucky with the cells you get otherwise you gotta farm some monsters and hope to get some cells do drop witch happens like 1/10 times.

To make it easy, the Devs don't listen to the playerbase and continue the drive away content creators if they tell them that the changes they made are bad.

If you want a idiot safe version of Monster Hunter than go for it but don't expect the game to stay the game it is now. In the 5 Years i play they changed the basics like 5x and made endgame players like i was start semi new every time just to get livetime out of the game.

I have 80days9h played and the changes to the Cells was the last straw for me and i uninstalled the game.
I told you above Cells are a big grind and i had all of them legit all, they removed some with the latest patch and made them into new combined cells but the cells you farmed are just GONE you don't get them to craft or anything if you want the new ones go grind again.

**** the Devs and **** this game.

I can't believe Phoenix Lab took the only few features that were interesting and then BUTCHERED them, if this game was grindy as f***, now it's a part-job time

The game is just not worthy to play in its current state. New events add only annoying new mechanics to old behemoths with zero rewards instead of actually new content. Dauntless provides a streamlined, user-friendly alternative to Monster Hunter. Though repetitive at times, there’s no denying the game's solid and enjoyable core mechanics. The dull environments could use some work, however.

There is a lot of fun in slashing the Behemoths, especially with others; the crafting is very well designed; and the game induces the familiar feeling of ‘just one more session’. [12/2019, p.81]

I wanted very badly to love Dauntless, and for a time I think I did thanks to the fantastic combat and weapon variety. But the lack of any real storytelling makes the repetitive questing structure a glaring issue in desperate need of some TLC. If you’re looking for a new go-to F2P experience, you could do much worse — just don’t expect a world drenched teeming with lore and compelling characters.
