The interesting premise of this shooter is drenched in horrible design flaws. Tubular levels, a bad feeling for weapons, ugly textures, boring gameplay, an unnerving reload system and story inconsistencies hinder this games way to a better review score.
-
Darkest of Days also features very little content - there is only a single-player story mode to wade through that has very limited replay value.
-
Darkest of Days is unable to carve out a place in history and memory of lovers of first-person shooter. The absence of an elaborated IA reduces the value of the product and makes you feel even more the lack of a multiplayer segment, further reducing its longevity. However, the title may be pleasing to fans of time travel and lovers of historical accuracy.
-
GameStarIt's obvious that the scope of this game has been too much for the first project of an independent studio. More time, money and experience would have improved the game a lot.
-
A good concept that is fun to play to a point and in the end you probably will not play this game a second time. Buy it if you are not going to pick it apart for no reason or stay away if most First Person Games fail to even excite you.
-
Another idea gone horribly awry, there is far better out there.

PC FormatDarkest of Days has this whole time-travelling, setting-right-what-once-went-wrong schtick. Oh boy. [Dec 2009, p.99]
-
PC Zone UKIt's got too many issues to recommend it. [Oct 2010, p.]
-
The premise is great, the big set-piece battles are fun, but everything else is boxed within dated design concepts from which other titles have long evolved.
-
A meandering plot and lackluster game play relegate Darkest of Days to the "save it for a snowy, can't-get-out-of-the-house day" shelf.
-
Just a sub par first person shooter with a few good attributes.
-
Darkest of Days ends up being a mediocre FPS. The production values are severely lacking, but under the hood you can see that the developers really tried. This is only the second game produced by 8monkeylabs, hopefully their future games will have a more polish.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Cheap and mediocre action shooter. Yet it surprises with a quick pace and atmosphere. Great for fast and short relaxation. [Issue#192]
