Darius Burst: Chronicle Saviours is long, spectacular and incredibly fun. Yes, it's expensive, but fans of the genre will find a great experience worth the money.

Chronicle Saviours offers more content than any other shmup and is enjoyable for both hardcore fans and newcomers alike. [04/2016, p.43]

Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours is a traditional and pretty shoot ‘em up with huge amount of levels, really wide screen and 4-player multiplayer mode. [Apr 2016]

Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours is jam-packed with brilliant shoot-em-up action. It’s a game that can last you a long time, and hardly ever loses its touch over that period. Pricey compared to similar games, but what you get for that is absolutely stellar.

Fun, long and better played with friends. A great addition to the genre, with a mayor flaw: its price.

The PC version of Darius Burst allows you to recreate the arcade experience by stretching the game across two monitors, creating an ultra-wide image. Otherwise, you have to accept the game's letter-boxed format, which squeezes the ultra-wide image to fit your display, leaving black bars on the bottom and top of the screen. The one exception to this rule is Chronicle Saviour mode, which is tailored for a standard 16:9 screen. Though four-player local coop is available, the lack of online multiplayer is a disappointment, especially given that there are some missions that can only be cleared with four players.

Shows traditional challenges found common in retro shoot ‘em up side scrolling games are still a blast to play.

A long-awaited return for one of the most famous Japanese shoot 'em ups.

Unless you're a die-hard space shooter fan who doesn't mind repetitive filler content, it is hard to recommend Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours at the current price point, even if it does have solid gameplay. I'd suggest waiting till it goes on sale for somewhere around $20 or less, as that is a far more reasonable cost.

I'm a fan of shmups, therefore I'm used to playing old games. However Dariusburst refreshed the genre and they nailed it. It carries everything that's good about the old games, improves on what is possible to but without ruining it. A perfect homage to the shmup genre. Full Review »
