Everyone tends to focus on the ending, but I didn't enjoy rest of the game either. The first trial is okay, but after that it runs out of steam. Trials drag on long after the murderer becomes obvious, the humor seems stale (unless you like random anime references), most characters have no depth to them, and even the new mini-games are boring. Definitely the weakest game in the main series.

However, there are a lot of eye roll inducing moments and frustrating situations. The ending might just be one of the most drawn out, obnoxious, fart smelling endings that soured an otherwise strong experience. The ending worked hard to make me not give a **** and move onto something better. Expand

Danganronpa V3 is a very good game. For me better than the first one but worst than the second one. I need decimals to score this game with an 8.5. The gameplay is absolutely gorgeous, but the characters are not as good as in the second game. And the final of the game is an example of why smoking drugs is bad :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is pretty much a 40 hours long version of case 2-3 (Turnabout Big Top) from the Ace Attorney series but with a terrible tryhard meta ending. Sharing the same problems as the infamous case: the lack of a coherent story, and characters that feel bland and stupid amidst mistimed nonsense comic relief. Let's break it down.

A futuristic setting with a fresh theme of Lies vs. Truth. With all the hype built through the years that preceded the release, the expectations were high for this game. After two incredible main games, with interesting twists and (some) memorable characters, the start of a new saga unrelated to the Hope's Peak Arc fills everybody with hope and despair.

Firstly, the new mechanics. The new minigames are not an improvement, they still feel somewhat the same from the previous games, not appealing but kinda nice to break the monotony of a tiring class trial. Perjury is an interesting concept, but it was poorly worked: the back routes could be interesting but are way too short to the point of feeling more like an easter egg than a feature; I also don't like the fact it isn't optional at some points. Debate Scrums are stupid, require no thinking and the fact you're always on the correct side is annoying. Panic Debates despite being more realistic are just chaotic in this game, most of the characters are just spouting gibberish while you're the one panicking trying to end it asap.

Secondly, the common points. Some cases are fantastic, V3 has some of the best murders mysteries of the series; on the other hand, some are pretty streched, forced, and/or predictable (i.e. cases 2 and 3). Executions are decent, the usual weirdness is there. Monokuma feels off without the Despair vs. Hope fight being the focus. "Junko" is bad. Side character (Maki) is pretty good despite being somewhat generic and lackluster after Kirigiri and Chiaki. Rival (Kokichi) is way duller than appears, with a conflicting character development that results in him being outshined by Komaeda and even Togami.

The game starts pretty strong, with a solid and surprising first case (if you finished the game you know that this case loses all its shine due to the deus ex machina randomly thrown in it). It's still early in the game, and it introduces new potentially interesting characters. The twist is exciting and shocking. The new theme is introduced coherently and somewhat well developed. Monokubs are downright annoying and unnecessary.

On the Chapter 2 it starts to feel uneasy. At this point it's made clear that Gonta, Himiko, Kaito, Miu and Tenko are irrelevant, instead they'll be repetitive comic relief characters with annoying catchphrases and/or lack of real personality for the rest of the game. The "How" is predictable, and the case is able to ruin and kill the characters with the most potential.

Chapter 3 is about an incestuous creepy crazy serial killer with dissociative identity disorder murdering two people outta nowhere for his dead sister that is actually himself. Sounds ludicrous, right? Yeah. "How" and "Who" are obvious. Case is annoying, tries to have this mythical and eerie vibe. Just ends up being stupid.

Chapter 4 is pretty good. The "How" is somewhat predictable, but the way the case progresses is really interesting. Here we get to see some real antagonism by Kokichi, which is way better than him just lying to stall the trial "for fun".

Chapter 5 has an awesome trial, to me one of the best from all 3 main games. it has twists enough to make the player question their own sanity. "Who", "How" and "Why" are completely unpredictable and masterfully done. Kokichi's character development from the previous chapters is thrown outta the window. Here we see the effort that should've been put into the whole game.

Chapter 6 is what we all know. In a rushed attempt to tie all the loose ends it ruins the first case, sh*ts over the already bad story to replace it with a bad 4th wall breaking ""plot"" twist. No decent internal conflict, terrible mastermind, discards all development the game had built, etc.

The "story" progression has no effort, it's just about collecting the vague Flashback Lights and comical events; the characters are just apathetic after the trials; the comic relief ends up being vulgar and mechanical. In the end, it does deliver what it intends: a bunch of uninteresting characters without any real talent, a washed-up charmless shallow reality show, a Bollywoodesque absurd story that gets a little too self-conscious, and Monokuma(s).

Intentionally or not, this game is clearly an unpleasant satire of the own Danganronpa franchise. The fact people just seem to ignore this and love it blindly to feel better about wasting their money is one of the most uncomfortable aspects of this game to me. It mocks every player and every meta game, pointing out how oblivious this fanbase has grown.
I'd say this game deserves a 53/100 to match its title, but that would be a lie

I love Danganronpa, i really do, however to turn a blind eye to the disappointing direction the series has been going is not looking to the reality of the situation at hand.

This is without a doubt, the worst danganronpa game, which in it of itself is still a great game, dont get me wrong. but the game is such a let down in so many ways, it tries to explore new grounds but ends up being flat at the end of the day, though i can certaintly appreciate the effort.

The Characters: Danganronpa V3 has some good characters, the problem with the game however its not the characters themselves, but how they are developed, this is the game with the worst character development out of the series, some characters that the game hype you up and are genuinely interesting, the game just disposes of them way too quickly, and characters who are boring, unintersting, the game decides to keep them alive, is a weird decision. Danganronpa V3 has 4-5 excellent characters that are perfectly developed, but it has almost the rest of the cast poorly developed, which is a let down compared to what we got on Danganronpa 1 and 2.

Character Design: Amazing BUT, with danganronpa v3 there is always a BUT unfortunately, either way, i think the game tries too hard to get their personalities in the clothing, i honestly love the danganronpa v3 designs but if you look at the beta designs for each character some of them are WAY better than the ones we got, because they dont try TOO hard to be something, for some reason Danganronpa V3 just takes the character designs to an uncanny level, where it doesnt seem like a school anymore, losing its sense.

The Gameplay: by far the best danganronpa gameplay, which was to be expected since danganronpa 2 was a huge improvement from Danganronpa 1, it requires more logical thinking, the games are way more fun, way more interactive, it keeps you wanting to play them, rather than being a hassle like in Danganronpa 1 or 2.

The Trials: Danganronpa V3 has the least appealing trials, it starts off AMAZING but it declines so much its ridiculous, there are only 2 cases in this game which i would consider to be Danganronpa 1 Tier of quality, the trials however are not bad by any means, they are just so bland and unintersting compared to the other games, they are even more predictable than in Danganronpa 2.

The Biggest Problem With Danganronpa: the long info dump which is pretty much common sense amongst all of the community and you as a player probably realised that by now after the first 2 games that it is ridiculous the ammount of time and mental fatigue that the huge info dump that the last chapter inflicts, and for no one's surprises, in this game is way worse, the info dump is EVEN LONGER and WAY more boring, but why that is, im going to discuss on the last topic.

Lack Of Creativity and Mastermind: unfortunately they screwed it up REALLY bad in this game, they tried to do something similar to Danganronpa 1 in a way? but why? what good does that do if you are not changing the root of your game? its been the same thing for 3 GAMES, this game has lost its ambition that it had on the first game.

Characters pt2: also the characters match their clothing, they are exaggerated in a ridiculous way, you have a very weird, and highly embarrassing quantity of embarrassing moments, the characters act so unnaturaly, you have a sexist, a weird relationship between a girl who likes to be insulted and one that likes to insult her, that creates this really weird, off putting atmosphere in the game, dont get me wrong, im all for dark humor, but it doesnt land well at all, considering they are, *students*.

Overall: Danganronpa V3 is the most uninspired and not-danganronpa game out of the franchise, it has a great gameplay, the best one, it has a handful of awesome characters and great scenarios and ideas for trials, however Danganronpa V3 fails miserably in the execution, the overbearing and honestly, insulting personalities of some characters make the game just that much worse, it has no room for originality, its just basically everyone acting extra all the time, beating a dead horse, continuing to make the same quirky jokes, the same well, dubious sexual jokes (they are students btw) and all that, the intended way of making a humor and taking the player off the edge of the trial its not reached whatsoever, it ends up putting you off the trial, the game has no creativity for its ending, it uses the same formula that danganronpa 2 used, the vast majority of characters are poorly written, overall is danganronpa v3 recommended? yes. is it as great as the first 2? not by a landslide. does it destroy the series with its ending? Almost.

the story and the characters are like always GREAT, danganronpa v3 has an amazing story and amazing characters, i must say that the characters in V3 are by far my favorite from any other danganronpa game, without spoling too much i can say that the dialogue and conversetion this character has is so enjoyable and geting all the special events has such an amazing reward since just seeing them talk its just great.

the game has some extra minigames like "salmon" which is basically the chance for you to talk and have fun with all the characters, if you like to have a game in 100% completion this is not gonna be boring in fact you are probably gonna enjoy getting it. there are other games who are hard to understand but at the begginig but you get the hang of it, there is a board game in which you pick a character that u want and make him grow stronger this also has some funny interaction on pixel forma and some talk interaction between characters from different games, this is extra and even so the interactions are so great u can tell the developers put allot of hearth into the game

BUT why am i puting an 8 then? well the game has some flaws
first when it comes to details like music and colors the game comes a bit short in comparison to the other games, now this wouldnt be a problem if it didnt happen in some of the most important part of the games, i just dont feel the same pressure and exitment i felt on the other games... for example on danganronpa 2 when someone argue against you, the characters pop off, it has a red background, the music was loud and the characters were screaming at you too... IT FELT LIKE A REAL DEBATE! but in v3... its too quiet... the music is a paino who tries to be loud and epic just fails and the background change from red to yellow, i know it was used so it shine in comparison of the other colors but it still suck.

now this is just one little detail, the rest of the music like the taxi drive is regular and the scrum debate is actually really good.

    another problem is the trials...
now dont get me wrong, the majority of the trials are great but 2 in particular are just... too obvious? by that i dont meant that u know exactly what, how and why something happened but u at least know 2 of this questions, i dont want to spoil too much so im gonna say it really vague but if you dont wanna risk it dont read it.

one case its so pinfully obvious what happen if you are part of a certain demographic which majority of people who play this game are and in other case its just... lets just say they could have make the greates plot twist even and they throw it away

i cant be too detailed since i dont want to be spoilerish but in conclsuion i give this game an 8
good story, good gamplay, good characters, not very good trials, and not very good in setting the mood.

SPOILER!!!! of what cases i am talking about

i am talkin about case 4 of the virtual world.. the game talks about terms like teleportation, and invicibles wall like they are new to us... we play videogames we know what they are, and since you know this it doesnt take too long on how someone move from one place to another, also the fake map was already a thing in danganronpa 2 the funhouse

the other case is the 3th, they created a new rule, a rule that protects the blackened... DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE POTENTIAL?! imagine having a killer, someone that hurt your friend in the group, thats even worse than komaeda but NOOOOOOOO they have to repeat the same stuff and kill him, what a waste of an opportunity...

Danganronpa V3 is not without its flaws. Class trials don’t always pan out and pacing gets in the way at times, but this is still the same Danganronpa fans have grown to love over the years. The wonderful cast of characters and immersive plot coupled with a plethora of endgame options makes this a must-play game for fans and newcomers alike.
