Someone else's review perfectly summarized this game. They said, GTA 4 was released in 2008 and that it had more depth than this game. I unfortunately agree. They said, GTA 4 was released in 2008 and that it had more depth than this game. I unfortunately agree. I didn't get over hyped, I knew after the second delay it was going to be a buggy mess than would likely crash and burn but I was hopeful I could get some enjoyment out of it still despite that; I also wanted to support one of the first games to try and meaningfully include trans characters in the game as I believe expanding gaming and making it more inclusive to others is extremely beneficial to the industry and making good change in acceptance in the world of people different from others. Now here is my summary of my experience so far, I have not 100% finished the game yet but I am about half way through and have watched gameplay of the rest as I was worried I wouldn't even finish the game I was getting so bored and tired of the combat. As of right now, I am still playing the game though and have about 27 hours played so far and I will expect at least 50 hours played by the end of my playthrough if I do all the side missions I plan on doing.

First up is the bugs, its the easiest and most obvious thing everyone is going to criticize. The game doesn't just have bugs, the game has so many glitches and problems that I don't even think 3 months of 60 gb patches will have it fixed still. Its that bad. Now it is totally playable on PC and I heard newer gen consoles play it fine as well, but it's still buggy like you wouldn't believe. I'm talking bushes X-raying through 15 buildings to sit in the middle of the person you're talking to's face the entire cutscene, people not loading in for about 10 seconds and looking like giant texture-less blobs until then, mouths not moving when anyone talks in major cutscenes, NPCs walking through objects and sending them flying at the speed of sound all over the room, you walking down a flight of stairs sending you jetting across the level like a speed runner in the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, enemies hacking you through walls infinitely damaging you even in cover, and more. Its not going to be an easy fix and will take them a year or two to work these bugs out assuming they even keep players long enough to see that day come. But this isn't enough to stop most people, heck, it didn't even stop me.

The gameplay: I didn't expect much going in, I knew it wasn't going to be Call of Duty smooth shooting or anything, but holy hell if it isn't some of the worst combat I've ever seen in a first person game. The melee weapons feel completely unusable as there is no real decent movement in your base character outside of a tiny little dash and your normal run speed. So using katanas and knives feels like garbage and has no power too it as it has zero feedback or movement with each swing so you feel like you're just flailing your arms like a kid who just got a VR headset. The gun gameplay I expected to hopefully at minimum match something like Destiny or Borderlands since they were very similar games in the same genre but they couldn't even get close to that. In the beginning you just fight into enemies that are massive bullet sponges until you get a couple missions in and start picking up decent weapons or just turn the difficulty down in frustration. The talent and perk system is super convoluted and is nothing but passives, but those passives are horribly required to do anything or have any fun at all with any weapons in the game. The base combat feels like garbage and the only chance you get to have fun with the weapons you might want to use is when you're 30 levels down into a tree and finally get an extra 30% movement speed or so to run at enemies faster with the katanas or when you get that headshot and crit chance bonuses to make pistols take enemies out faster. Additionally, all the weapons in the game have so much recoil and movement when shooting that aiming is totally impossible, you would think futuristic guns would have less recoil and not 18x more than anything you ever imagined possible. Its like shooting automatic elephant guns at the enemy and the aimer is bouncing all around them the entire time. Its just absolutely abysmal and I can't believe people who play tested it thought it was good enough for release. People even saw the early gameplay for it and said it looked bad yet they didn't change it and fanboy Witcher fan drones dismissed it as some 4d chess move that the combat would be fixed by launch. It wasn't and its terrible. My friend played the game for 10 minutes and refunded it because it was so bad. I don't blame them, it gets better, but by "better," I mean its just tolerable enough that I can stomach through it to complete the game.

I'm out of characters so I can't even go on about the hollow themepark this game is, it looks like an open world but its just a short themepark story w/ side missions and nothing to do outside those. The dialogue is great but the endings leave you wanting more.

I felt alone as V is alone. Not only main story, but sides stories are great.

These are still there because investors forced to publish the game early, for Christmas, before it was actually finished.
Developers are already fixing those bugs and they'll be probably gone by February 2021, with the second big patch. Currently (end of Dec2020) the game has already less bugs than any Bethesda game, so if you're used to those like me, you won't even mind! Otherwise just wait a couple of months, if they do these bugfixings and improvements the game is easily a 10/10.

This is a very immersive open world game that really sets the mood of being in a dystopian cyberpunk world. Despite the bugs and some cut contents, I really feel that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. The game has a lot of potential and would expect to even get better in due time.

There are quite a few problems, like the non-existing AI, graphic and gameplay glitches, that could potentially ruin your game.

I can run this game quite well with gtx1060 in 1080p and have a decent performance. But guys, there are so many bugs. It is very hard to enjoy cut scenes when here and there you see floating and flickering textures.

The game is not any kind of innovative. It feels like playing an advanced version of Deus Ex.
Even with al bugs patched this game is too boring second-class journey.

This game is better than people are making it out to be, my only real issue with the game is the bugs, which is why it's not a 10, the story is amazingly detailed and the graphics are insane. As my system is good enough to run it I don't experience many of the frame rate drops, but there are alternatives, like geforce now

It's not GTA - get over it. But the game is on PC fun and one of the best Story of PC games I've ever played. Some technical issues and some weaknesses ( bad AI, it is horrible to drive cars - motorcycles are totally fine ) lead that I only give 9 instead of 10 points.

Performance and bug issues aside (that is, supposing the game runs beautifully without game breaking or visual bugs), the game has a remarkably shallow level of interactivity that is a few steps down from other CDPR games and most other contemporary open world games.

Any time you chose one of the dialogue options or presented methods of resolving a quest that isn't roleplaying as the an aimless, 1-dimensional anarchist street-kid V (regardless of chosen lifepath), the "game" falls apart and resolves the quest as if you had picked that outcome. There are a few occasions where "lifepaths" (Remember, a Lifepath is supposed to be so substantial of a game choice and role-playing element that you should be forced to create an entirely new game to experience a different one) may influence dialogue with an NPC, but they are typically things like negotiating more money for a job or an additional line of dialogue that has no impact on the outcome of the quest. This gameplay mechanic, which is supposed to be the saving grace of the game and allow for multiple play-throughs, therefore making up for the game's relatively short length actually has very little impact on the progression of the game. One playthrough is definitely enough to experience the game without missing anything.

Additionally regardless of the lifepath, there is usually only one resolution to a quest - this is in stark contrast to every game the studio has ever made and contemporary RPG design (which CDPR themselves is partly responsible for). The choices are often presented in such a way where you think you are definitely going to get a different outcome, but the alternate resolution to the quest simply doesn't exist and you are forced to do it anyways. A spoiler free example is you are given a quest to investigate someone and report back with your findings. You tell them what happened (no choice to say nothing is wrong), and the quest-giver kills them. Then they call you to clean up the mess and the game gives you an option to help them or leave them. Regardless of which choice you make, you have to carry the body to a dumpster.

It's not "buggy", Skyrim is "buggy". The game is simply not finished. You can clearly tell that it's not finished because the gameplay mechanic for introducing you to new characters is to have them randomly call you with a short bio and then the extent of the quests they give you is to buy cars from them or to shoot up a dingy trap house to collect loot and lore shards that are utterly forgettable and sometimes completely incoherent or containing developer/story notes that make you think they are a part of the pre-production notes for the game. In addition, instead of a prologue introducing the gameplay mechanics, you get a 1 minute montage of your character being a street kid and doing quests for the Valentinos (an in-game gang) and doing cool things that you wish were actually in the game. The corpo intro abruptly ends after you taking a flying car to a bar and have one-dimensional conversations with T-posing purple haired androids.

In addition to the unfinished narrative elements, the open world gameplay mechanics (Driving AI in the context of quests or "narrative" expositions like driving with a character are immersion breaking and bad, the non-quest NPCs in the world are not interactive beyond one line of generic dialogue or killing them. The extent of what happens is they crouch down and put their hands in the air and shake around until you move far enough away from them that the game can cull them from existence. But if you kill them you get a wanted star like in GTA. That should allow for some fun emergent gameplay right? Getting chased and having to escape the police? No if you do anything illegal 3 police officers pop into existence next to you and start shooting even if you are on top of a building. And if you shoot back more keep popping in until you get ones that do hundreds of damage per bullet and you die. And you may say, what did you expect? Well I expected that a game with a budget of $300 million made in 2020 and is marketing itself as a open world game with driving and reactive police systems would at least match what GTA III, a nearly 20 year old game was able to accomplish and make run on a PS2.

There are more problems with the CORE gameplay mechanics than this but I am actually character-limited. What are the good aspects of the game? It has really good lighting, the world is very details and fun to look at. And the combat is above-average. It's fun to play stealth or with blades. But in general, if you are expecting to enjoy doing anything other than shooting up random buildings and looting and selling stuff and repeat, you are going to be disappointed.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
