Cupid has some of the best atmosphere I have seen in a visual novel. It can be downright creepy and has a dark macabre feel to it. My main issue with it was something that also made it unique: my character. You don’t play the main character but their mother. My issue with this wasn’t the change in perspective but that I just couldn’t enjoy the character. Frequently I liked neither of myCupid has some of the best atmosphere I have seen in a visual novel. My issue with this wasn’t the change in perspective but that I just couldn’t enjoy the character. Frequently I liked neither of my dialogue options and I didn’t agree with where the character wanted to take things. I wouldn’t say this stopped me from enjoying the game but I would have enjoyed it more if I could identify with the mother’s motives and reasoning or had other options that suited me. Despite this I can’t say this was a bad game at all. The story was interesting; the art was decent; the music was well done. I kept playing despite not feeling like I was in control of any of it because I respected the rest of the game and what it was doing.

I played Cupid on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any bugs or spelling mistakes. Alt-tab didn’t work. You could manually save whenever you wanted and there were twenty slots.

While I think the game could have done with more options for Mother’s dialogue and motivations the rest of the game is as solid as can be. I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a darker visual novel. I finished my first play through in 90 minutes.
