    Cry of Fear is a truly scary horror game that is guaranteed to keep you in suspense. Set in the dark and disturbing streets of Stockholm at night, the game does a great job of creating a tense and atmospheric environment filled with fear and anxiety.

    One of the things that really sets Cry of Fear apart from other horror games is the great music.     One of the things that really sets Cry of Fear apart from other horror games is the great music. Andreas Rönnberg has done an amazing job of creating a soundtrack that perfectly captures the mood and atmosphere of the game. The music is both sad and tense, and it does a great job of enhancing the fear and tension as you explore the game's dark and twisted world.

    But it's not just the music that makes Cry of Fear so scary. The game is filled with all sorts of grotesque monsters. These enemies are masterfully crafted and are guaranteed to send shivers down your spine as they chase you through the game's winding corridors and abandoned buildings.

    Overall, Cry of Fear is a true horror masterpiece. The atmospheric setting, great music and terrifying enemies all together create a truly unforgettable experience. If you are a fan of horror games, this is one you won't want to miss. I would give it a 10/10 for its incredible atmosphere and ability to fill the player with fear.    … Expand

Cry of fear is one of those games that make you question what you're truiy playing, at times the game feels sort of mixed between wanting to be a horror story and allow for certain sections of world building and character development of Simon, and at times it goes for a more classic horror-shooter style like F.E.A.R, this mixture of gameplay definitively shows that the game has gone through different stages of planning and development by Team Psykskallar. As there is no defined route for what the game trully is, certain sections make you feel the intensity of the gun-play between Simon and the Monsters, while others really make you think deeply on the game's backstory and the world that surrounds the player.
    The story as is understandable goes around Simon, a mentally sick individual that has lost both his legs to a car crash, said day being referenced as the "Black day" for Simon. This was an unfortunate event that was the final drop in the glass as Simon's end has just begun as he goes down a path of self-hatred and destruction. Before the accident, he already had been suffering with Mental health, but the loss of his legs was the push to insanity he required. Simon goes to a doctor, Purnell, which after an undisclosed amount of time, realizes Simon's treatment is not efficient, and suggests him a new method for Simon to release his inner thoughts, writting a book.
    The book of Simon is where we play, a manifestation of Simon's inner hatred for everything and everyone around him, representing everything as deformed and evil, the same way he feels in reality to the people around him, those who look at him with pity, and laugh at him, a cripple. Each enemy in the game has some sort of meaning and relevance to Simon in one way or another, making the game feel so more inmersive as we are dealing with the creations of Simon's mind, as deformed as previously mentioned. The aesthetics of the game really sell the game, for a 2012 mod of a 1998 engine, Gold-Source, this feat of a game is AMAZING, and to not spoil any further that I have, it is a game I whole-heartly recommend to play.    … Expand

    Best Horror imho, like someone said “9/10 - for full-fledged game, 10/10 - for half-life mod”, as for me - 10/10 but game also has got a certain number of bugs, for example bug with telescope, ladder stuck, etc. So - 9/10 (I didn’t played co-op)

    As a game, it's pretty good, but as a half life mod, it's legendary. Comparing the textures and models to half life show how much the devs worked so hard on this. There are even animations that had to be hand animated from the lack of physics with the gold src engine it runs on. This game reminds me a lot of Silent Hill 2 with it's design and atmosphere and also the narrative of what isAs a game, it's pretty good, but as a half life mod, it's legendary.     This game is ok the story is great how is explain depression without being too on the nose the controls and movement can be janky sometimes especially in platforming part I have play this game 2 times now yet this game still scares me and this game also have great music

    Годный психологичный хоррор. В начале вы будете пугатся каждого шороха, и в апартаментах вы будите жестко боятся всего. И у вас выбор либо в темноте сидите с ножом и быстро убиваете противника или же с телефоном Саймона мочите противника более медлено.
    Все хорошо кроме ломаного кооператива. Чтобы поиграть в кооперативе нужен хамачи или    Игра бесплатная в стиме на движке GoldenSourse.

    He had severe depression and was assigned a doctor, our Doctor advised him to write a book in order to write down all his thoughts in order to get rid of them. When we play as Simon all the events in front of the main character are fictional, we see the sequence of events of the book he is writing.
    Well, I will not continue to tell the plot, you have to find out everything in the game, it will be very interesting.
    VERDICT: I really liked the game, I put it 10/10 as a mod for Half-Life and 9/10 as a full-fledged game!    … Expand

    This game is pretty good, the horror is really scary at times and could be a "What the f*ck is that" moment, the only criticisms I have is that the game is very linear, and the platforming is janky.

    this is a game of beauty, unexpected shooting ranges with monsters, shooting is a pleasure but there are few patras in the whole game. the plot is interesting, but I haven't reached the end, I'm still playing. but the minus in the **** game is the gold source engine. everything

    The game is very cool, it is not terrible but puts pressure on the atmosphere and for what it becomes scary and it's cool designers have tried and over enemies.

I found this game some years ago on steam, i wanted to play a good horror game so i searched in steam horror games and i found CoF, the game looked    It can be described with only to words: Horror Masterpiece.
    When i thought Outlast, Resident evil 7 or Silent hills p.t. where good 1st person survival horrors, i was completely wrong beacuse there was another one, excactly, Cry of Fear. I found this game some years ago on steam, i wanted to play a good horror game so i searched in steam horror games and i found CoF, the game looked pretty good (enough to have been programmed with the gold source engine and it is seen that they squeezed to the maximum) and the reviews where very positive, so i looked the pictures of the game on the page of steam and it looked so fcking creepy.
    Years later when i bought my gaming laptop i was ready to play and finish Cry of Fear but... the first 10 minutes of the game made me think that i was going to suffer all the game, i was completely scared and surprised, the way they used this abandoned places and the monsters in the game was too good, it makes you feel scared and weak beacuse the creators (Team Psykskallar) actually visited abandoned places and recreated on the gold source for the game, also just as silent hill they make you feel weak beacuse the monsters not only are gonna freak you out, also they are very strong and fast.

    Something i want to congratulate Andreas Ronnberg and Team Psykskallar is for the realism in the game.
    In normal videogames the ammo is something that is comepletely unrealistic, in Cry of Fear if you reload a gun with bullets in, you throw those bullets and you cant get them back beacuse that´s what happens in real life, if you reload a gun without knowing that there are still bullets on the cartridge you lost those bullets. Another realistic thing is that when you run sometimes you slip and take damage, also happens when you walk on a paper of the floor or when you run in stairs.

    Horror.
    The horror in this game is comepletely original and sometimes there are some screamers but really well done, the monsters are really scaary not only beacuse the aspect, the way the move is really creepy and it maybe remind you to silent hill monsters. The atmosphere in the game is scary, only onces in the game we can see the light of the sun, but the 90% of the game is on night.

    The story of Cry of Fear is totally original, sad, cruel, depressing, scary and its a game really enjoiable and if you wanna play something different play Cry of Fear, and if you want to play something like CoF there is the previous game of Team Psykskallar Afraid of Monsters that is also a great game.

    Уж извините, не могу поставить 10 баллов, да, хоррор хороший, атмосфера замечательная, локации отличные, но в силу старости игры и её не реиграбельности(Ибо это хоррор, он не может быть таковым) я ставлю 8-ку.

    This game is exactly what it portraits itself to be, it provides a horror experience with a psychological twist. These 2 go hand in hand when used right but cry of fear takes this psychological and horror experience to another level. This game blew my mind when it came out and even now it finds new ways to amaze me every time. The soundtrack and the enemies fit perfectly to the psychological atmosphere of the game. This game will always have a special place in my heart I think I see myself coming back to play it again in the future.… Expand

    Damn scary atmosphere, great level crafting, intracate puzzles, old school game design, survival horror with some action at its finest. A must play for survival horror fans looking for a depressive, dark, and insanely haunting atmosphere. Get Immersed and enjoy the ride!

    Just when you might start getting tired of it, it shows it reveals its second nature and surprises you with more depth than    Cry of Fear, despite running on such an old engine as Gold Source, is a fantastic experience for most people liking horror games. It doesn't just scare you with cheap jumpscares. It does that with great atmosphere and sense of loneliness and being lost in cold night.
    Just when you might start getting tired of it, it shows it reveals its second nature and surprises you with more depth than you thought it has.
    I rate it with 9, because it has some archaic mechanics that might throw someone off, but I definitely recommend it.    … Expand

    Amazing 'Free To Play" game on STEAM! But be warned it's very intense and not your average survival horror. Shows very intense scenes and depression and definitely not for the faint of heart.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cry of Fear is everything you could want in a survival horror game. It's scary, it has a deep and thoughtful narrative, it's immersive, and it is an incredible experience throughout.

    The game's central themes of depression and self-harm are evident through the player character, Simon. Upon being struck by a car, he awakens to a nightmarish version of his hometown, devoid of life, save for the creatures that now seek to kill him. The game is dark and genuinely scary, and is an incredibly gripping experience the whole way through.

    The game's narrative focuses on Simon's suicidal depression, and the whole game is a symbolic journey of his suffering with his condition. As someone who has dealt with depression before, this game strikes a particular chord with me, as I could just picture myself in the same place as Simon throughout the experience. The game's mature content reminds me of Silent Hill 2's own depressing narrative, and its own very dark and grim themes, but the game handles it beautifully, and it really feels like it comes from a place that knows what it's like.

    The gameplay is action-oriented, but purpose built to make you feel alone and afraid. You'll have sticks to hit with and guns to shoot with, but the enemies are numerous and the environments are dark and creepy, and even the open and decently lit streets feel unsettling when you know you're entirely alone. The indoors environments can get truly terrifying when all you have to light you way is your phone's light and you can just hear something off in the distance, but you don't know what it is. Although some monster designs can be a bit uninspired, the way they are presented makes for some genuine scares.

    The gameplay is your standard first person shooter fare, with melee weapons to boot, and it all handles tightly and fluidly. The guns in this game handle incredibly well, and the time and effort the developers went to in order to make the guns look and sound realistic is amazing. By far the most realistic guns I have seen in any game. The details are impeccable, and you can even see engravings and serial numbers on the sides of some firearms. The sounds they make when they fire and are reloaded are so good, and those reload animations are so amazing I could watch it for hours (that doesn't really have anything to do with anything, I just really love the guns in this game).

    The music of the game is also amazing, with some tracks I even listen to just to listen to them. The tracks fit the scene they're played in well, to the tense and high tempo drums mixed with screams during a frantic fight with multiple monsters in a pitch black environment, to the somber tracks that play when things are calm, making you slow down and reflect on everything you've been through up to now, instilling deep emotions within the player at all the right times, whether it be fear or loneliness or sadness or calmness.

    The graphics betray the fact that this is a Half-Life 1 mod. The game easily looks just as good as Half-Life 2, even better in some aspects. It's amazing just what the developers have achieved using the engine they did. Everything looks amazing, especially the item models.

    For its asking price of absolutely nothing on Steam, it's a must-own for horror fans. It's a game that's thought-provoking and impacting, and will leave you thinking about it for a long time after you've finished it. It's an amazing game, and added with the emotional connection I happen to have with it, it's one that I can never forget.    … Expand
