Jul 25, 2025Crown Gambit is one of the rare video games that effectively combines a gripping story and engaging gameplay. The premise is a little familiar but the title, while borrowing from popular culture, focuses on three very likable characters and spins plenty of narrative threads smartly. Choices matter and replaying to test different paths is viable. The card-focused battles are fast and varied. The many boss engagements and the artifact fights ask players to carefully consider each hero’s abilities and when to dip into artifact use. Crown Gambit has only one slightly annoying idea, the chases, but all its other ideas work together beautifully to tell a good story using solid mechanics.

Jul 9, 2025It’s impressive that, considering its mix of two very different genres, Crown Gambit very rarely missteps. Through the ten or so hours I spent with Crown Gambit, there were very few moments were I wasn’t completely invested in the fate of Meodred. With fast-paced storytelling and a unique card system, this is a fascinating addition to your tactical combat collection, provided you can survive all that backstabbing.

Jun 27, 2025Crown Gambit is a pleasant surprise within the tactical RPG genre. Despite technical limitations—such as simple animations and the lack of Portuguese localization—the game makes up for it with a well-written script, charismatic characters, meaningful choices, and challenging battles. Its card-based system, combined with character progression and the ancestral influence mechanic, adds depth and constant tension. With a striking visual style and an inspired soundtrack, the game stands out for the consistency of its ideas and the way it turns player choices into tangible consequences.

Jul 2, 2025Crown Gambit is a nice little indie game, made in France, that will keep you busy for at least ten hours, or even longer if you get the hang of it and want to explore all the possibilities the game has to offer. The narrative adventure concept is very well thought-out, in an atypical dark fantasy universe that is accessible even to those who are not necessarily familiar with this genre. A pleasant surprise at a low price, which we recommend to you this summer while you wait for the bigger releases to come. The perfect game to play on Steam Deck, even if we regret that it's not available on other platforms.

Jun 18, 2025Crown Gambit is a gorgeous experience that successfully blends strategic card-based combat with a rich, dark fantasy narrative. It feels like it’s been ripped out of Game of Thrones, in the best way. The Ancestral Grace mechanic adds such a brilliant layer of tension to its usage, weaving your combat choices into the story with some meaningful consequences, though its overuse can substantially negate the challenge of combat. While there are occasional pacing issues, Crown Gambit’s incredible art direction and world-building make it a game well worth playing.

Jun 18, 2025Crown Gambit offers an interesting world and detailed plot, but the actual combat takes a while to get to the point where you want to focus on it.

Jul 20, 2025For their first game, Wild Wits has created an adventure story that constantly gives us the impression of making the wrong choice, and the universe is so rich that it's difficult not to succumb. While the card game's mechanics are solid and offer small subtleties to help you stand out from the crowd, the battles still struggle to differentiate themselves from each other and prevent you from varying your approaches.
