It would be truly great to be able to control and command a series of formations as a group -- something that is done in actual wars. But we can't have everything and actually what we have is pretty good.
-
One thing that seemingly remains the same is the steep learning curve...If you are new to RTS games, you may want to bear in mind that Cossacks is exceptionally unforgiving in a way that say, "Age of Empires II" is not.
-
While the expansion doesn't drastically change the core elements, its additions to the gameplay make Cossacks much more enjoyable by opening up more strategic options.
-
There's a bunch of new missions, new units, new nations, and a scenario editor that should keep the fun running for a long time to come.
-
This expansion pack breathes even more life into what is essentially a very absorbing and deep eighteenth century wargame.
-
Cossacks remains a flawed best-seller, and Art of War doesn't do quite enough to change that. [PC Format]
-
If they had done something about the AI and given more feedback during pausing, there's a fair old chance that The Art of War would have upped its score to win our Highly Recommended accolade.

Computer Gaming WorldA complete game experience that's compelling, if sometimes unwieldy. [August 2002, p.79]
-
Computer Games MagazineForget technology trees - this game has a technology forest that spans 17 pages. [Sept 2002, p.85]
-
Part patch and part expansion, and players will begrudgingly shell out for the experience.
