  1. This game will give any gamer a headache, but in the good way; the way that will keep you coming back for more, so stock up on Advil.
  2. A fun and highly challenging tactical game that will test your analytical skills as well as your undying patience.
  3. Again, they’ve offered us even more action and variety than before, but still kept that chess-like gameplay for which the original Commandos game was famous.

While no other franchise can present you with so many seemingly insurmountable challenges, no other franchise is able to offer such a feeling of accomplishment once the objectives are miraculously achieved.
  5. A must have for anyone who appreciates the art of tactical strategy. The general package left a taste of blood in my mouth, and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
  6. Visually, the Commandos universe seems more atmospheric and immersive than ever before, and the addition of multiplayer increases the game's replay value.

Despite these shortcomings, Destination Berlin’s blend of battlefield strategy and sneaky infiltration will appeal to experienced strategy fans. Novices should scout out another battle.
  8. But what makes Commandos 3 : Destination Berlin more than just a good strategy game is how it somehow allows you to again believe—however much tongue-firmly-in-cheek—in that comic book WWII mythical world.
  9. Make no mistake that it is going to give you absolute hell, yet beyond the initial frustration at your apparent gaming impotence, attempting to penetrate its steely exterior becomes a bizarre pleasure that offers a triumphant sense of achievement.
  10. The game's high level of challenge can lead to some proportionally satisfying victories against all odds.
  11. Could it possibly be more impressive than Commandos 2? The answer is no, and I don’t think developer Pyro Studios even really tried.

Those 12 missions might not sound like a lot, but their sprawling scope and elaborate challenges will keep you busy for dozens of hours. [Holiday 2003, p.118]
  13. While Commandos 3 is still a strong concept, and most definitely a super-looking game, it's only suitable for the most patient veterans of the series.
  14. One of the most rewarding games around for the devout strategist, but those less experienced will find it hard to get started, and may get disheartened by the obstacles.

The movement and timing puzzles that make up the bulk of the gameplay can be tedious and frustrating, but completion of a mission always brings a rewarding sense of accomplishment.

Without patience and some dedication, this could be a quick ticket to frustration. But that's also what makes the game appealing, because for those who are up to it, there's a serious challenge in store.

Sadly, despite such impressive scope, the difficulty level takes its toll on the playing experience. Only those with buckets of patience and strategic acumen will ever fully realise this game's awesome potential. [Dec 2003, p.110]
  18. With varied missions, nice visuals, and an awesome musical score Commandos 3 is a game you very much want to enjoy, but in the end there are too many issues to keep you from fully feeling satisfied.
  19. A quality experience for the hardcore strategy gamer. The biggest drawback is that it’s so similar to the older Commandos; frankly, you may have already experienced this battle before.
  20. Ignorance of Pyro's past glories is actually an advantage with Commandos 3 since it means the tension and atmosphere that the series still has in abundance can be enjoyed without the nagging feeling that things aren't what they used to be. Inspiration and aspirations appear to be in short supply in the Commandos camp.
  21. It just doesn't do anything to make the gameplay more accessible or enjoyable to the general gaming public. [Jan 2004, p.157]
  22. But this game is too difficult. Hell, we got frustrated by the tutorial. Not a good sign. By far the biggest problem is that you'll be fighting the camera controls as much as the Nazis.
  23. A big step backward for the Commandos franchise. While the game would like to evoke "Saving Private Ryan" and other WWII films, sadly the movie that actually comes to mind while playing is "Groundhog Day," only with Nazis and a Quick Load button.

Pure blah from the opening missions in snowy Stalingrad to the last hurrah on the beaches of Normandy. [Jan 2004, p.67]

So much so, that I have adopted my online alias to Beret in honor of the Green Beret. This is not a mindless run and gun, this requires strategical thinking and skill. Kind of like a 2.5 Splinter Cell from the WWII era. The graphics are gorgeous for the time this was made and plot, though cliche, is nicely done. There is not any character development which isn't surprising. However, this is still one of my favorite games to date. Full Review »

    Terzo capitolo piuttosto deludente.
Game design più banale e missioni più povere.
Sente un po' il peso del tempo.
    Gioco non terminato.

One of the few games I never finished, but deleted shortly after I started to play.
And I did it in spite of me being a huge fan of the first 2 Commandos games which games I played through.

Seeing the overwhelming positive reviews maybe the problem was with me.
We will never know, but from my heart, I can only recommend you to play the first two Commandos titles if you are new to this title. You won't be disappointed.
Some missions are insanely difficult in the first 2 games, so the challenge is really there.

I can't choose not to give score, so it means the system will automatically align 0.
