Bloody awful is all i can say... The sound effects are terrible, the sound of the engine really starts to get on your nerves and sounds nothing like a rally car... sure the graphics look nice but the replays make the car look like its floating. The handling is also very unrealistic and just dosent seem to look right. IMHO colin mcrae 2005 is a step in the wrong direction.. come on guys, Bloody awful is all i can say... Awesome Game. Watching the replays feels like i'm watching the WRC highlights on TV. And for those of you who feel that RICHARD BURNS CRAP has good physics then you should just bang a rock and see what happens. The car just flips up into the air and turns maybe a HUNDRED times before falling. As for graphics, its CMR05 PC all the way. It beats all the competition on any platform.

I had Colin McRae 2003 and it was great, but I was always having to fight to get a smooth frame rate. With Colin McRae 2005 after a few tweeks the game looked and ran better then 2003. I could also drive more cars and control weather. Normally when I get the latest version of a game I need to get a better video card to make it run, but not this time. Wow.. just wow, I had no idea just how bad this game was. I had no idea people still made games this bad. Seriously CM1 is more realistic and fun. As for the physics, I'm sure they haven't modelled ANY suspension at all, because I can feel the polygons under the 'car'. The car slids and recovers in totally unrealistic ways and even in a fun way. Even gravity seems to Wow.. just wow, I had no idea just how bad this game was. The sound is truly awful and clips to your framerate. I can only assume the '10' reviews are rigged because no sane person could think this is good. Seriously Need for Speed feels more realistic and I NEVER thought I'd say that about any game. My god I'm still reeling.. just buy Richard Burns Rally for the love of god, get good at it, watch a REAL rally crash compilation if you think it's too easy to crash and roll and you'll be happy. Great game. The single best thing about it is the sound - so detailed, finely honed. Engines roar, collisions smack and debris tinkles. Clearly Codies toiled long and hard over this stuff.

Very nice graphics, accessible physics model, lots of tracks and play modes, adjustable weather and smooth frame rates. Compared to last years version not a lot of difference. But it is a good game at a very good price. If you like this sort of thing you really cant go wrong.

AWSOME racing game. One of the best series on the PC. All the rest of the PC titles are arcade racers, usually with no damage modeling. We get nothing like GT from the Playstation, even though our hardware could make the PS version look like 5 year old gamming. BTW, whoever said this sucks, you NEED a wheel to play. There are a few stages in locations like Spain, Greece where suspension goes haywaire and starts glitching out, no matter your setup, it feels like youre lacking ground clearance, even if you max it out on your setup. Overall handling has decent weight behind it and the sense of speed, once youre up to it, is really good, often even somewhat terryfying, but very satisfying indeed. Weather, time of day options offer variety, however there is an issue with wet weather, in the sense game doesnt make it clear what kind of a wet weather it is before racing. Heavy, light, just wet road ? So you have to make a guess when choosing which wet weather tires to use. Also all tires use same texture model, a nit pick, but annoying still.

There arent that many locations, but youre provided with decent amount of stages in each of them. Stages are very well detailed, for a 2004 game atleast, and offer good diversity in their road type design and are fun to race on. Cars are also pretty well detailed for the time period of the game's release. Sound design however is quite sub par across the picture. Car selection is quite adequate. Car damage simulation can be a mixed bag.

If youre looking at older rally games to try out, dont be afraid to give this one a shot.

Colin McRae Rally 2005 looks good, sounds good, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea. Expand

I think that CMR4 was slightly better. The graphics were good, but simple the gameplay did not keep me engaged for as long as the previous part.

My wish list for future iterations includes night racing, variable per-stage weather, working in-car gauges, and crowds that aren't 2D pancakes, but I can't say I've played a more satisfying racing game all year.
  2. That rock is the rocking arcade rally game "Rallisport Challenge 2," which offers better visuals, a more tangible driving sensation and arguably the best online support ever seen in a racing game. That hard place is "Richard Burns Rally," which has established itself as easily the most realistic (not to mention difficult) rally game. In the wake of these two triple-A titles, Colin McRae 2005 comes off feeling a little too tired to remain the pinnacle of rally gaming.
  3. Plays just as well as its console cousin, with the additional advantage of some gorgeous graphics.
