Jan 5, 2021It constantly feels like the bad outweigh the good stuff, but it's hard to deny the charm of this highly atmospheric, dark, and almost Lovecraftian fairytale. If you are looking for a great shooter, this isn't it. Clive Barker's Undying is, above everything else, an experience. It's an adventure that carries some of the titular novelist's flaws, but also plenty of the things that make him so awesome.

A spooky and enthralling FPS, [but] the lack of multiplayer is somewhat like jumping into a Ferrari, then sticking to the speed limit.
-
Spank! Not the greatest game you'll ever play, but a good blast with plenty of atmosphere and ideas to see you through to the end.
-
A different sort of game, one where story dominates the action, but in this case to a fault.
-
Certainly a unique first-person shooter and despite the feeling that this particular variety of horror and suspense seems a tad contrived at times, gameplay is actually fresh and warrants a good look by fans of both first-person shooters and survival horror.
-
It might do a great job at raising the hair on the back of our necks, but it doesn't do much to raise the gameplay bar. Who knew mediocrity could be so scary?
