Citadelum brings city building to the next level, and although some ideas feel a bit like busywork, at the base of it all is an exceptional sim experience.

With a meticulous, intricate and yet stable management system, Citadelum promises city builders and management titles fans a handful of hours of fun. My biggest regret is that there is no multiplayer option to compete against my friends' empires, but the creations we can download from Steam Workshop make up for that. It's time to crown a new Caesar.
  3. Citadelum successfully channels the spirit and charm of classic genre entries like Pharaoh and Zeus, bringing this iconic style of city-builder to the modern era, but lacks the variety and content to remain engaging for long. Abylight’s take on this style of game is excellent for those seeking a rush of nostalgia, but merely solid for everyone else.

Citadelum is a game that hits its core objective admirably but struggles to land with several of its more ambitious systems.

Citadelum initially reminds us of the great Caesar series, but quickly wears off due to a lack of depth.

This is the kind of indie game that I would love to see succeed, and the next steps post-launch, both in terms of ongoing development and community support, will be crucial in determining whether it’s remembered as a Justinian or an Honorius.

If you're extremely hungry for "Caesar-like" city-building strategies, Citadelum will certainly entertain you for a few hours. However, don't expect more than a brief distraction—it's too shallow and underdeveloped for anything beyond that.

Made in Spain, Citadelum is quite conservative and classic, but not without good ideas to create the perfect Roman city. [Recommended]
