What would happen if you take a mobile game concept and scale it up to a PC release? Well, Fishlabs tried it with Chorus, and the results are rather mediocre. [Issue#258, p.62]

Despite a few flaws, in particular with regard to the structure of the scenario, the excessive presence of dialogues, an insignificant soundtrack and framerate drops, Chorus is the nice surprise of the end of 2021.

Chorus can be an entertaining space combat adventure at times, but the mediocre moments take a considerble toll.

Chorus is a worthy Space Shooter, with very enjoyable gameplay, even if gets repetitive at some point. The real let down is the story which is quite boring, and told through weird means, like the inaudible thaughts of Nara. But there is a demo available, so try it before you buy it.

Chorus is a game that works in the sense that it doesn't crash your desktop, but it's just an ambulatory shell with mere vestiges of soul left in it.

Chorus is undoubtedly ambitious, with Fishlabs undeniably putting in a lot of effort into their first full title. Aesthetically, there's a lot to praise the game for, with a photo mode that genuinely feels useful to capture the visual splendour of space and the action of combat. Combat here is also fun, responsive, and generally great to play, even if it can feel overused due to a significant lack of variety in the rest of the game. Add this lack of variety to an ambitious story, but poorly developed, and you get Chorus. For every positive, there is an undeniable negative. Is it worth playing? I would say yes, but how much mileage you get out of it will be very subjective.

It doesn’t break new ground in the genre and, apart from a nifty battle with a monster space eel, lacks many standout moments. That said, space action junkies will eat this one up and those with next-gen consoles that are new-game-thirsty could do much worse than this interstellar tale of redemption.

Ultimately, I just wish Chorus was pared down. The plot is full of B-movie pulp, but the game doesn’t seem interested in laughing at itself. There aren’t a lot of new ideas in the story, and the narrative isn’t delivered with grace. Will you like Chorus? That wholly depends on how much tolerance you have for everything packed around the spaceship combat. If all you care about is the flying and shooting, you’ll at least be pleased with how polished that is. It’s the rest of the game that isn’t up to par, and I wish I could play the same campaign with all the excess lore cut away.
  2. It probably isn't going to set the world on fire. A dull first hour certainly isn't going to help. As fun as it is, the story is pretty well trodden stuff. Yet combine an over-the-top world and tone with slick dogfighting and you've a potent package. Chorus will sing for you, even if it takes a moment to find the right notes.

Female Space Jesus Saves the Universe Again But It's Actually **** Great

Don't listen to other negative bozos. The game is incredible. The gameplay is smooth and satisfying, after you get used to the drifting mechanic and get some powers, fights become a blast and a real power trip - you can turn around and shoot the enemies chasing you while speeding past turrets, teleport behind a gunship and disable it with a lighting strike, and charge up a missile cluster to blow it up to kingdom come. It's great!
The environment is very well designed, you get put in a somewhat big maps with a lot of side content to explore and 2-3 longer main missions. The skyboxes look incredible, and the artstyle really shines through the enemy design.
The main story took a bit of a backseat for me, though it is still fairly entertaining and engaging. I mainly focused on the side mission storylines, which can be very interesting - an abandoned space station with only a couple of drones left standing, a mysterious vessel with a corpse of a famous explorer, a corrupted ancient AI trapped in a lightning storm. They're all fantastic.
I really enjoy the game so far, at the time of publishing I have around 15 h in it, and I'm about at the halfway point while doing all side missions. I really recommend you buy the game if you enjoy space shooters, or you're just looking for a fun action experience.

The graphics are decent as are the sound effects but the mission structures and voice overs are well below par. The gameplay is fairly average but the worst part of the game are the annoying bugs with one or two game breaking progress losing ones. Full Review »
