One of the best Chess games ever made. Easily worth the price tag in my book.

I've purchased all previous versions since ChessMaster 6000. I noticed minor cosmetic changes between CM11 and CM10; however, I'm basing my vote strictly on this version alone. The package is put together very well from the graphics, to the gameplay, to the training. I would have liked to see more mature 3D chessboards since the ones provided have a "kid" theme to them.

It's exactly what you are looking for. I'm a big fan of chess (which is the reason why you would buy this title), and the tutorials alone are worth the price of admission. There are plenty of options for both 2d and 3d, and the game analysis is thorough and breaks games down in terms a beginner can understand. It pits you against opponents that match your rating by default, and It's exactly what you are looking for. I don't know why people who don't like chess is voting against that game. If you don't like it simply forget it. If you happen to be an unexperienced player a great tutorial will leave you ready to confront your first games. If you want to learn more there are a lot of other tutorials to teach you openings, endings and anything you need to become a competent chess player. If you are a really good chess player you have lots of different kind of game types. The ELO rating of the game can go up to 2967. Apart from that lots of wonderful 3D and 2D chess sets won't allow you to get bored of the classical ones. The game has over 30 default tournaments and you can make your own ones so this game has no end unless you are a real Chessmaster yourself Expand

I like it because you can play against players with different types of personalities. The tutorials are awesome and I've learned a lot since I've watched them. The game database is huge and it's fun studying very famous games with commentary. The database is also up to date, so you can look at the most recent games played in 2007.

Instead of using a table to play chess its either a laptop and or a mouse. If chess is boring then go do something else. Patience is a virtue. The best part of this game is that well Its Chess!

I wouldn't suggest this edition to anyone who likes to play a complete game of chess. It often locks up when the human is winning no matter what the level of opponent selected. It has caused lots of frustration for both my son and I.

No boss button, no more 3D, takes too long to close, cant play music CD while you play chess, no more halloween peices, too hard to adjust contrast/brightness of peices, always defaults to chessmaster oppponent (annoying).

Great piece of chess programming- can serve all your chess needs right up to master level! The academy is excellent as well, many useful tips for practical improvement (although the tests are a little hard- it estimates a 2200 player rated less than 1800 points!)

The chess knowledge contained within the Academy is fantastic, with great commentary and interaction. As a beginner in chess this game greatly expanded my knowledge of strategy/tactics in the openings, middle game, and end game. However, the application itself is clunky and unintuitive. The menus are not the easiest to navigate and the 3D graphics are quite poor, even by 2007 standards.

  1. The only thing missing from this experience was an actual video of eight-year-old Josh crying at the end of the game. I would have paid a lot of money to see that.
  2. A really great chess game. The presentation values are excellent, and it has a wonderful training mode which includes fully-voiced tutorials from Josh Waitzkin.

As a one-stop shop for an entire chess-playing and learning family, this package should last until you're all grand masters. [Apr 2008, p.64]
