This game is outstanding. One of the best games I've played to date. First off, the visuals and music are so polished and beautiful. I just want every screen of this game as my background (the backgrounds are incredibly detailed and help make the game feel very polished) and I could listen to this music for hours.

The game is actually funny! The hunour is subtile and well integrated. It is demanding game, but rewarding at the same time. One of the best indie games!

One of the best games i've ever played. Good platforming alongside good story and music, and you got yourself a godlike game. Everything just feels well-designed, in every aspect of the game. Only few games make me really want to do it. The difficulty feels so right. It's not like Cuphead where its difficult in the wrong way IMO, but it had the direction at least. Here, it's not about getting punished super hard if you make a few mistakes - it's about figuring out the challenge and executing it right, again and again, until you succeed. Never rage quitted, I was always encouraged to pass to the next screen. The additional content is a huge selling point IMO. if you finished the campaign, YOU AIN'T DONE YET! You were good enough to beat the game, so you get the b-sides to complete, the strawberries to collect and the hearts to find. And, if youre an absolute madman, you have the c-sides challenges, which I'll try to complete in my way to 100% the game. Expand

Great game overall. But when you mix such a clean game-play with some beautiful art, you get something magical. It is a hard game, but I never felt like it took away from it. I feel like if some mechanics were better explored, this game would be a 10 for me, without a doubt.

Overrated garbage. Nothing special, nothing new. Ugly looking pixel graphics and annoyingly difficult and boring gameplay. This is the game which makes me think that game reviewers might be bribed to write good review. Such a shame...

A fun retro-style platformer with quirky characters, great music and amazing level design. The only real complaint I have is some wonky dialogue, but even that is a minor complaint.

The graphics are nice, there's a very great pixel-art contribution in that game. And the scenario is just so much nice, it makes you think and think again about them and you. The gameplay is absolute : collecting strawberries, keys and hearts were just a real pleasure. Even the OST is perfect. Celeste is definitely a quality game made with so much effort and love. Expand

In regards to visuals, the animation is good and one of the best aspects of this game but is letdown by the off-putting graphics. Somehow they didn't get the colour right. It looks kind of unsaturated and you have bright neon colours. The characters look weird, but the added visual effects make them really bizarre and distracting.

One of the aims of the game is to collect strawberries. You have to search for hidden areas which is very tedious and involves searching areas you've already been through but it's just a collectible.

Overall, this game had a lot of potential but ended up mediocre in pretty much every way. The platforming mechanics aren't really interesting, obstacles are simple, bosses are easy and mostly just a pattern of moves.

To me, this is the most addictive platformer I've played since Dustforce.
It has TONS of content - I've played for 33 hours by now and still am only through about 2/3 of the game. A word of warning though - after the first third, it gets really, really tough.

I wanted to criticize some elements like blocks that make you bounce in somewhat unpredictable ways and the fact that some mechanics aren't introduced to the player but you'll most likely have to see in a video on Youtube or something but... in the end... playing it is just so much fun.
The only thing I don't forgive is the awful story about a whiny brat and the occasionally appearing douchy dude. In my life, I've met a number of people actually struggling with psychological issues (myself included - struggling, not having met myself...) as well as shallow, whiny ones who wallow in self pity while not recognizing all the things "fate" (or chance - whatever) simply handed to them. And even though there isn't enough context to truly judge whether Madeline is one or the other, the way she expresses herself and behaves makes it seem like she belongs in the latter category. Which is why I started skipping cut scenes about halfway through.
Still... overall... controls are tight, challenges very varied (and sometimes feel more like a combination of puzzle game and platformer), art and music are fantastic and it's obviously incredibly addictive if you enjoy platforming challenges.

Difficult: definitely. Fun? Only if you enjoy the difficulty. If you don't, Assist Mode doesn't really help make it more fun, since it doesn't assist with the timing (other than giving you the option to slow everything down, including dying).

First off, the visuals and music are so polished and beautiful. I just want every screen of this game as my background (the backgrounds are incredibly detailed and help make the game feel very polished) and I could listen to this music for hours. I mean, each level has it's own death transition! That should give you a taste of how much love the developers put into this game. The dialogue is incredibly charming and tells a story about complicated feelings so elegantly and with so much honesty (I mean, you can feel it through the dialogue). The gameplay is incredibly fluid and its difficulty curve is perfect (However, I am a platformer afficiando, so take that with a grain of salt). I mean, seriously. Just jumping around and dashing in an empty space feels amazing, and there are so many collectibles to find using these amazing controls! You can choose to play on assist mode, or complete the game 100% and have an outstanding time no matter what. This game simply gets everything right: from skippable cutscenes to counters that help see what you missed in a level. The B-sides are just as fun as the main story and there's secrets hiding in every corner. No secret makes you want to use a walkthrough; they are well-hidden, but also well telegraphed with fun little mini-challenges in them. There are so many cool, inventive mechanics to come across while traversing through in this game... and the level design... Oh, the level design! It's absolutely perfect. This game is incredible and a great start if you want to start playing hardcore platformers. Expand

Great fun platformer, not super difficult and has a nice assist mode for people new to platformers.

Has the option of going for a linear playthrough, or collecting lots of strawberries in extra sections of the levels and challenging yourself to the bmode levels.

Overall, a very fun game, would give it 10/10 if the strawberries unlocked something.

I heard this game was a "difficult platformer", in the likes of Shovel Knight and Super Meat Boy, unfortunately what I got was a fairly "meh" game, with unfinished concepts(such as the strawberries you can collect that have no function whatsoever), not a lot of difficulty, and very bland and unoriginal art style.

Celeste has a lot going for it: virtuoso level design, top notch pixel art, fantastic chiptune soundtrack, an overall smart design, huge speedrunning potential and some deeper meaning (climbing the mountain as a metaphor of overcoming depression). Be aware though that it requires flawless precision and you will count your deaths in thousands. [04/2018, p.53]
