I heard this game was a "difficult platformer", in the likes of Shovel Knight and Super Meat Boy, unfortunately what I got was a fairly "meh" game, with unfinished concepts(such as the strawberries you can collect that have no function whatsoever), not a lot of difficulty, and very bland and unoriginal art style.

this game is just rubbish, indies games don't deserve all the success they currently have, the media manipulates people's minds to make them think the game is good, but when she plays it she finds the game is total **** anyway.

After playing for two and a half hours, I don't get the hype and acclaim for this game at all. Yes, the controls are responsive, the music is fine, and a story does kinda exist. I will also say that Celeste, unlike other games of similiar difficulty, is not very punishing or rage-inducing, instead actually being supportive to an extent (which I'll admit is rather refreshing). I will also say that Celeste, unlike other games of similiar difficulty, is not very punishing or rage-inducing, instead actually being supportive to an extent (which I'll admit is rather refreshing). Also, it does have some obscure mechanics and tricks that may make this game more interesting to speedrunners or those wanting to learn how to speedrun. But that's the extent of my genuine praise for the game, since even the controls are limited and thus problematic (in my opinion) since, at least by default, the dashes can only go in the 8 directions available to a keyboard (which is why this is one of the few platformers where I don't recommend using a controller).
In essence, all my complaints really boil down to not finding anything while playing that made it stick out from the pack. While the game isn't broken, there are just so many better alternatives to what I personally experienced with Celeste. Everything that is praised about this game is simply done better elsewhere (in my opinion), and there are some platformers that I consider to be strictly better in every way. For instance, many games out there could correctly claim to have controls that are just as smooth and responsive. Beyond that, most of those games even have more features to the average player! Honestly, it isn't hard to feel responsive when the effective toolset for the majority of players is so limited (despite some complex interactions that can result from them). Furthermore, the supposedly great story isn't very engaging or enthralling at the start either. The game is not as insanely hard as it is made out to be as well. As a completionist, I died more at the beginning due to checking whether the map continued in a direction (looking for secrets/collectibles) than because of any actual mechanical challenge. Simply put, my motivation for playing the game died really quickly after learning that the game was going to continue with pretty much more of the same (except with some subtle variations and a few story elements thrown in).
To anyone still interested, I suggest playing the first chapter or two and seeing if you like it. If you do, then continue on knowing that the game will continue giving experiences close to that and enjoy it. For the others like me, I suggest switching to any of the wide variety of more worthy games or other ways to spend your time.
TLDR: The gameplay and experience doesn't significantly change much from the first two chapters, so if you are interested in Celeste I would advise giving them a try and basing the decision of whether to continue playing or refund it (if possible) based on how much you enjoy them.

I played this game and i have to say that it was a really different experience mostly because of the story it has, very deep meaning hidden there, however because of the difficulty it has it might not be for all players but if you are up to the challenge you will not regret it. The graphics are retro made which is always welcome for retro gamers such as myself.
It really looks like this game was made with love especially because of the story it has, it really helps in times such as these, the difficulty of this game i would say is mostly trial and error, it's not an unfair difficulty. And finally the music in this game is really good, i have to mention that the music in a boss battle near the end of the story is really epic and was like 1 of the best i heard this year so far!
So in short words i have to say this is a remarkable piece of art that has the essentials a game needs to be this good!

It's a really good platformer with tight controls and beautiful visuals. However, some parts are more frustrating than challenging.

In regards to visuals, the animation is good and one of the best aspects of this game but is letdown by the off-putting graphics. Somehow they didn't get the colour right. It looks kind of unsaturated and you have bright neon colours. The characters look weird, but the added visual effects make them really bizarre and distracting.

One of the aims of the game is to collect strawberries. You have to search for hidden areas which is very tedious and involves searching areas you've already been through but it's just a collectible.

Overall, this game had a lot of potential but ended up mediocre in pretty much every way. The platforming mechanics aren't really interesting, obstacles are simple, bosses are easy and mostly just a pattern of moves.

Difficult: definitely. Fun? Only if you enjoy the difficulty. If you don't, Assist Mode doesn't really help make it more fun, since it doesn't assist with the timing (other than giving you the option to slow everything down, including dying).

Very overrated. Music is simple, gameplay is rough, and characters aren't so interesting and deep as everyone says.

Overrated garbage. Nothing special, nothing new. Ugly looking pixel graphics and annoyingly difficult and boring gameplay. This is the game which makes me think that game reviewers might be bribed to write good review. Such a shame...

It had potential, but it is just plain repetetive boring. Chapter nine is just a slap in the face when you just want to complete this nightmare.

Average platformer with bad graphics and since it has so much of praise without any objective reason then it's obviously that it is another example of corruption between gamedev and so called gaming journalists.

The game can be fun at times but every single level I played, up to chapter 6, just wouldn’t end. I quit having fun around 8 or 10 screens before, but could t stop playing because I’d lose all my progress and have to do all that annoying frustrating bs again. So I was always forcing myself to keep going just so I didn’t have to replay the game because it was the most frustrating game ever. I realized I got little to no enjoyment out of the game , and spent more time wishing the level would just end so I could save and quit playing. Once that happened I just uninstalled the game. I’ll never play again. Buy it on sale. $5 is a good price. Expand

Gets better as you play it. I thought the game was only ok at first but after getting use to the controls and past the hotel, the game got amazing! The story is game of the year worthy. Worth the price for sure.

Shameless story, no creativity, and the repetitive trying in put some deep meaning behind all the protagonist problems in a bad dialogue.
**** controls, for keyboard and controler, i tried to play in both, it was a failure.
You need to move the controller in the exact corner, otherwise it will just make a standard dash. Not mentioning that you just have to dash, jump and grab into walls, no creative gameplay, no innovation.
They dont give you a challenge, they give you a **** impossible sequence of perfect movements and make you die 300 times before you can do half of what they want you to do. There's no challenge, just a leak of creativity in every detail in this game.
Terrible game, just play it if you want to get angry.

Celeste has a lot going for it: virtuoso level design, top notch pixel art, fantastic chiptune soundtrack, an overall smart design, huge speedrunning potential and some deeper meaning (climbing the mountain as a metaphor of overcoming depression). Be aware though that it requires flawless precision and you will count your deaths in thousands. [04/2018, p.53]

Along with its charming 2D retro look and awesome soundtrack the game cast a spell on me with its authentic characters.
