To me, this is the most addictive platformer I've played since Dustforce.
It has TONS of content - I've played for 33 hours by now and still am only through about 2/3 of the game. A word of warning though - after the first third, it gets really, really tough.

I wanted to criticize some elements like blocks that make you bounce in somewhat unpredictable ways and the fact that some mechanics aren't introduced to the player but you'll most likely have to see in a video on Youtube or something but... in the end... playing it is just so much fun.
The only thing I don't forgive is the awful story about a whiny brat and the occasionally appearing douchy dude. In my life, I've met a number of people actually struggling with psychological issues (myself included - struggling, not having met myself...) as well as shallow, whiny ones who wallow in self pity while not recognizing all the things "fate" (or chance - whatever) simply handed to them. And even though there isn't enough context to truly judge whether Madeline is one or the other, the way she expresses herself and behaves makes it seem like she belongs in the latter category. Which is why I started skipping cut scenes about halfway through.
Still... overall... controls are tight, challenges very varied (and sometimes feel more like a combination of puzzle game and platformer), art and music are fantastic and it's obviously incredibly addictive if you enjoy platforming challenges.

It's been a while since I had the chance to play a genuinely challenging platformer that requires you to think. With similar gameplay to Ori and the Blind Forest, the story and setting in this game are more lighthearted in nature and the complex level designs keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire journey.

It is evident that Celeste was designed not to be fancy or overly complex. It's just a platformer, and a fun one at that. Every level you beat feels satisfying, and even more so as the levels get harder and harder. It's been a long time since my hands legitimately sweated from gaming, and I find that downright incredible.

I will warn that this game might not be suitable for everyone, since many levels need split-second decision making. If you're not a fast-paced gamer, you may want to preview some gameplay first before buying. According to Steam, 50% of gamers couldn't get past halfway. Luckily, there is an "Assist Mode" available which essentially provides cheats to make the game easier to play, so if you do experience trouble, feel free to use them.

Be sure to find the minigame "PICO-8" that is hidden inside Celeste. It is a whole different version of Celeste that provides more stages for you to play which are even harder than the main game. The unlockable B-Sides and C-Sides of the chapters also provide completely different levels and a huge jump in difficulty and challenge.

I had this game at 10/10 for the longest time but eventually dropped it to a 9/10 because Chapter 7C was pure torture and virtually impossible to beat. I actually experienced carpal tunnel trying to grind that chapter. I can accept progressively harder levels, but when they turn sadistic, that's when I draw the line. Sure, the chapter is optional, but an imperfect game is an imperfect game. (This actually reminds me of Super Cloudbuilt and its secret developer levels, because they were impossibly hard and left me disappointed.)

Great fun platformer, not super difficult and has a nice assist mode for people new to platformers.

Has the option of going for a linear playthrough, or collecting lots of strawberries in extra sections of the levels and challenging yourself to the bmode levels.

Overall, a very fun game, would give it 10/10 if the strawberries unlocked something.

A fun retro-style platformer with quirky characters, great music and amazing level design. The only real complaint I have is some wonky dialogue, but even that is a minor complaint.

Celeste has a lot going for it: virtuoso level design, top notch pixel art, fantastic chiptune soundtrack, an overall smart design, huge speedrunning potential and some deeper meaning (climbing the mountain as a metaphor of overcoming depression). Be aware though that it requires flawless precision and you will count your deaths in thousands

Incredibly beautiful game with an incredibly interesting story, incredibly pleasant music... and with incredibly ass-firing gameplay :)
Especially if we talk about collecting all the berries. And all hearts. And all B-Sides, more complicated of the passed levels. And if this is not enough - go through the continuation story in the center of the mountain, where the jumps no longer update

Well, if this is not enough too - fly to the stars, to the most difficult level of the game, because of which it does not even have a B-Side, or berries... this last level, IMO, could be made a little less wild, or, at least, not about story.

A contender for the best indie game of the year 2018, Celeste is a beautiful 8-bit pixel style game with a fantastic soundtrack. While starting easy, difficulty increases gradually, with each level introducing new game-play mechanics.

Celeste is a simple 2D platformer.

What makes Celeste special to me in comparison to other titles from its genre is that it gives me the feeling that it focuses 100% on the actual platforming and nothing else. What makes Celeste special to me in comparison to other titles from its genre is that it gives me the feeling that it focuses 100% on the actual platforming and nothing else. There are no enemies to kill, resources to gather, quests to be completed or over the top game mechanics, which are supposed to be the main gimmick of a lot of 2D-platformers these days (Of course new chapters introduce new game mechanics, but they never overstay their welcome). You just clear one level after another, each level builds on the experience you gathered from the previous levels and they build on one another perfectly.

There are tons of levels and extra challenges, enough content to keep you busy for a long period of time. That combined with beautiful pixel art and a great soundtrack add up to a solid title that's definitely worth your bucks.

The game can get very repetitive though and you may spend a lot of time on a single level with dozens or hundreds of attempts on the same level (especially if you decide to take a shot at chapter 9, but also in the previous chapters). This can be very frustrating, so if you're not a fan of replaying the same level a lot of times, you should probably keep off playing this game, because that's what you'll be doing literally all the time. I'm a big fan of such games where I have to try again and again to complete it because it feels more rewarding when I finally do. But that might not be everyone's cup of tea.

And just a design note: I think it is kind of a shame this game does not have an official feature for creating your own maps and levels and to share them online. The base game sets up a perfect blueprint for some Mario Maker-esque stuff with all the different mechanics and level design concepts and the devs made nothing out of it. There is still a modding community out there and community-made tools to create your own levels and share them online, but it's very niche. Bummer.
