Five Word Review: Surprisingly catastic, pun-loving game.

This is a fun - and simple (it is VERY simple) little cat centered .. err... might almost call it a brawler. The visuals are actually very nicely done and very colourful. There are lots of quests that take on average around 5 minutes maybe.

The game plays very well with mouse and keyboard - but it is a long, long way from most other PC RPGs in terms of complexity and playtime. This

This is a casual game for younger players (or older players that just wish to relax a little from more heavyweight games like Fallout or similar)

The quality is well above average when it comes to gameplay and design - the puns are all cat centered and range from funny-cringeworthy to funny - and to "thank god, no one sees me smirk at those puns...".

I can fully recommend this game - .... to anyone that is fine with a very SHORT, SIMPLE and joyful game. For PC players wishing for a deep storyline, complex characters and progression - this is not for you. In terms of complexity - it is on a level with most mobile games.

a little, easy isometric game, very light in rpg elements...full of cats and puns about purr/fur/meiw and so on. campaign: than 8hrs, a few more for simple dungeons/achievs.
buy it for 3-4bucks if on sale, worth it but very short

I have put a fair amount of hours into Cat Quest and I can’t seem to get enough of it. There are over 60 quests to complete and over 50 dungeons so there is definitely a lot of content to keep you involved with this catventure. Cat Quest is a great game.
Gameplay-wise it is simple, yet coherent in its rules.
Story-wise it mostly cares about being fun and funny, with lots of puns and sketchy, yet self-aware story. It doesn't hide it's absurdity either.
In conclusion CAT Quest is a CATchy game, with CATastrophic humour.

Nice RPG at low price. Combat is action and consist of using a mix of magic+attack+dodging. Funny cat stories with purring text. Maybe more aim toward younger audience, but I found it fun anyway. Graphics are cartoon style. Many side quest that helps into the grinding...so much in fact that the main story becomes a bit easy. But I prefer the side quest to do levelling then a generic grind. A lot of backtracking but it's acceptable. The item management is maybe the weaker part...you get equipment but they just accumulate (also upgrade automatically) into your stock. Which makes a very large item list to switch to...to date I didn't find a way to sell or get rid of items. Otherwise this is a fun and light action RPG that pass the time. There is maybe some casual frame hiccup, but not that many. I give it a good 80% Expand

Adorably cute, but not much else going for it. Very simple casual game that lacks any depth.
It's sort of fun, but not enjoyable enough and overall very repetitive and boring fetch quests that feel the same like everything else. Story is nothing amazing.
I don't find any of the areas or characters interesting as it all looks the same, enemies are the same, NPC's all look the same,

Kind of boring besides looking cute. Maybe more suitable for kids, people new to RPG's or someone wanting a very easy, simple casual game. I feel like my brain died playing this as you don't even need to think.
    It doesn't feel worth playing.

Cat Quest is an aesthetically pleasing but mechanically shallow game. You play as the Dragonblood, a cat with magical powers whose kind was created to protect the world from, well, dragons, which you are particularly good at slaying. However, the core plot is that another evil cat, who commands dragons himself, has kidnapped your (nameless) sister, and so it is up to you and your blue cat spirit companion to save the world and your sister.

Aesthetically, this game is really pretty; the overworld map that you spend most of the game navigating looks like an old school map, but with some elements that make it appear three-dimensional. You spend most of the game running around, fighting enemies, talking to people, and doing fetch-quests on this map, with the odd excursion into small “dungeons”, areas that just contain a bunch of enemies to kill and some treasure chests to loot. The dungeons are not as pretty as the world map is, but are okay (not great) aesthetically.

All of the characters – the enemies and your fellow cats – are animated in cute little sprites, and all of them are pretty high quality (even if some of the enemies are a bit odd-looking, particularly the scrunched-up dragons). The animations are reasonable enough, and there’s seven spell effects in the game, though they’re repeated between you and the enemies, so there isn’t a ton of variety in that department.

Story-wise, the game is very basic – in fact, the game even lampshades what a generic villain Drakoth is, though it becomes clear by the end that he’s actually not as generic as he was pretending to be. Still, he is still fairly generic, even if his motivation is a bit unusual, and his overly cackling dialogue isn’t terribly varied.

Most of the game length is taken up by side quests, which are of similar quality to the main quest, but each tends to feature a different set of 2-3 characters. These quests are very simple – almost always fetchquests or “go here to kill some monsters” type quests – but the game wraps them up in a variety of odd dressings. Some of them are fourth wall breaking, some of them are silly, and some of them try to be touching, but all of them are fairly brief and most of them lean on the silly side of things.

Which is the case with the writing in general, really; almost everything in the game is a cat pun, from the town names and locations to the names of your weapons and armor to character dialogue featuring characters incorporating meows and paws and whiskers and all sorts of cat things. There are some more serious moments in the game, where you find out about the distant backstory of the world, but it’s hard to take all that seriously given the silliness that surrounds it.

Sadly, this means that the gameplay is what would ultimately need to hold this game up, but it just isn’t very good. Indeed, in the end, it is very much bland filler.

The game is a basic isometric hack and slash game, even simpler than something like Bastion. You have basic attacks with your weapon, and you’ve got 4 spell slots for 7 spells. The spells are all quite simple and straightforward, and there’s really nothing all that clever about the gameplay – it’s all very straightforward, attacking enemies with your sword/magic then rolling away before they counterattack. There’s not much variety in terms of how the enemies fight, as they all just sort of move towards you and then attack around them in a red circle, with the more advanced enemies also casting spells that are either lines horizontally, vertically, or an X over them, or leaving spikes underfoot. You see all of this stuff pretty early, and ultimately, the enemies lack in much meaningful variety.

While the game never quite bored me, it never really made me feel all that entertained, ultimately; it felt like a thing to do. I liked a few moments in it here and there, but it was all very predictable, and in the end, it failed to really touch me emotionally.

Overall, this isn’t a bad game, but it isn’t a good one, either. It is really, really basic, and it props itself up with aesthetics and a gigantic pile of cat puns.

There’s some people for whom that will be enough, but for me, I’ll mewve on.

Pretty cute game, super shallow combat/story but entertaining for a little while. Not really much to say about it overall, it was solid but definitely unremarkable.

Cat Quest is an excellent and charming action RPG for all ages. Combat is enjoyable, and the usual elements in the genre, like inventory control and stat tracking, never become overwhelming. The quests flow smoothly into one another, and the adventure is just the right length. Most of all, the game is charming, and despite the story and game mechanics not delving too deep, thisis a title you'll want to keep playing until it's 100% complete. For adventure and action-RPG fans, Cat Quest is a must-have.

Full of fun and a joy to get lost in, Cat Quest is only a few whiskers short of being the purrfect game.
