An excellent balance of gritty realism and game play. It's been a long time but Outlaws can finally hang up its guns and retire.
  2. A tour de force labor of love from developers who clearly cared, and knew what they were doing, and it's not hard to fully appreciate the end result.
  3. Call of Juarez does a fascinating job of blending an epic period in history with an already proven gaming genre. It strays here and there, but it is the overall experience that Techland set out to provide, which I feel they have succeeded at tremendously.

When was the last time you played a game where you could make your horse slide down the face of a cliff, shooting with the six-gun in your left hand while reading from the Bible in your right? [Oct 2006, p.84]
  5. In the end, it’s all about player satisfaction and if it’s of any importance to you, I’ve played it all in one session. It’s that captivating.
  6. The game is pretty fun for Western fans. Just be prepared for some frustrating stealth mission and a couple minor clipping issues.
  7. Looking at the big picture, however, the story and the atmosphere in CoJ will be good enough to keep you going, so I wouldn't go as far as to say that the Billy missions ruined it for me. There were some that I found exciting.

The best Western game by far, with some outstanding visuals. [Oct 2006, p.100]
  9. Of all the cowboy games in the last few years, Call of Juarez is the one which most feels like it has a soul. Impassioned and imaginative, its velocity of invention can make you smile through any flaws. It's a game which you feel someone actually cared about making.

Rarely do I find myself so absorbed by the characters I play and the world in which they live, and that's a true homage to Techland for creating such an absurdly assimilating game. But the feeling is shattered at times.

Gunfighting is great fun and the graphics are nothing short of stunning. [Oct 2006]

While Call of Juarez isn’t without its flaws, it is still a remarkably enjoyable game.

A cheap and poorly made game thats only real draw is its setting. It's too hard then too easy but almost never fun. the frustrating controls, kidie hand holding and frustrating sneaking sucked all my enjoyment from the game. A stupid and jarring red cross fills the screen any time you mouse over your horse, a civilian or a corpse. So much for the game being for adults. Despite the praise of its graphics i found it to be a very ugly game. Too much bloom and radioactive colour schemes hurt my eyes outside and indistinct baddies against a dull repetitive background strained them inside. I really couldn't recommend this at any price. The problem is these kids that have no patience or appreciation for a true shooter... instead adhering to their kiddy Counter strike games going at 100 mph with pin point accuracy. Call of Juarez brings realism and excitement to the FPS scene and does so with a style and story so incredible you won't know where these developers came from. SeraphiM A is a complete MORON. I was waiting a western game like for ever and it finally came true. What can i say, i felt in love with that game... Each mission is like having sex with the most beautiful girls on this planet. The storyline is just perfect, the voice acting was so well performed that i thought i was in there in real-time! At the End it was so deep that i started to cry, yup its true.
i so loved the duels like the old wild west, riding a horse,... The caracters really had an incredible story to tell. Every weapon on that game is unique. Every mission was diferent, like i was playing a new game of call of juarez.
Chrome Engine really did a great touch on the graphics, i will definitely watch every game what will be released with that engine. The gameplay is awesome, AI is like they would be real enemies, lile they were defending and attacking by them selfs without any scripts, superb.
This game should have more sales, Techland really deserved having more profits. Multiplayer of that game is unique, so awesome... I could spend the whole day to praise that game... I do want a sequel but wild west too...
Let's see how Cal of Juarez:the Cartel will be, hope another awesome game like Bound in Blood.
Thank you for that great Game Techland and for publishing it Ubisoft, i'm so thankfull
