Well done Activision, after two years of successfully avoiding your yearly copy and paste but somehow simultaneously getting worse and worse I relented and bought this - mainly due to my affection of World at War. Well, it turns out that eight-year-old game is better in every single way. Congrats on the hype train, I bought a ticket - and now, after one day, I'm getting off. Abysmal.

Boring, not so interesting single player, multiplayer is pretty much the same as previous games minus wall running and vice versa. It is technically unremarkable and there are no no destructable environments. There is no reason to buy this game, you can go back to playing world at war.
I am not even touching the subject of heinous business practices.
Call of Duty is over for a long time and these guys are trying to sell its corpse every year.

First and foremost, this game is an utter representation of every single ailment the game industry has suffered over the last decade. Is just blatantly bad, with no light visible in sheer darkness. It plays and look as a game from 2008 at best, blurry textures and almost no destructible environments. From the very first mission its hard not to notice how stingy the game budget was- the Normandy mission had me sent clearing 5 bunkers in a row without capturing the scale and magnitude of this highly important historical spectacle at all. This is not funny Activision, you should be utterly ashamed of releasing this piece of unheard of cash-grab in 2017. This is a theft of massive proportions. They just continue to lure gamers into this festival of utter mediocrity without having any care for the consequences they might face. This has to end.

    To sum things up

    PROS :
Mm, no automatic health regenaration anymore, look for med-kits this time

    CONS:
dismal visual quality ( blurry textures, weak physical model, bad SSAO quality and list can go on)
    extremely repetitive gameplay
    poor enemy AI
    loot-boxes, micro-transactions,
    no improvements whatsoever

Pretty well optimized, decent graphics. At first it seemed they overhauled the audio, and added realistic sfx finally. But then after I took my first shot, I realized nope it was still the same crappy gun sounds. I don't know why its so hard for a AAA studio to add good gun sounds.

The gameplay feels basically identity to every other COD game, including the old original WW2 ones. And that is a major problem. The originals were good....for their time. But its 2017 and games have evolved since then, but not COD. The physics engine is poor, the ragdoll effects are nonexistent. The death animations feel the same as all the other COD games, and it completely kills the game. When you blow up a group of enemies they just slouch over and die in their scripted death animations, instead of going flying or ragdolling. The gunplay is too fast and feels like the character has no "weight" to him. Other than a few scenes, it doesnt feel like you are really in WW2, because so many scenes are just completely unrealistic. Like using sniper rifle to shoot 60 enemies in 5 minutes. Or using a flak gun to shoot down 10 planes in under a minute. Or the endless waves of germans running at you with no intelligence. The explosions are very pixelated.

The voice acting is okay, but some of the lines are cheesy or out of place for the scene. For the amount of money they spent on this game, there really is no excuse for how generic it is. The engine feels massively outdated and arcadey.

This game is not a true return to the glory days of Call of Duty like everyone said it would be. Setting it during WW2 didn't really do much since it feels exactly like the last few CoD games. There is a Destiny style social space that makes no sense. There's no benefit to having this feature apart from showing off to everyone what you get from loot boxes. This allows Activision to bank on other players jealousy and sell even more loot boxes.

The historical inaccuracies are really insulting too. Red dot sights and hollow sights did not exist during WW2, soldiers weren't allowed to wear colorful uniforms yet this game allows you to buy weird skins that dont fit warfare or even the time period, AND WHY ARE THERE BLACK NAZIS? This is insulting to black people. Nazis were openly racist and I wouldn't want to dress up as someone who committed major atrocities against my race.

Swastikas are censored BTW. And you can play as female soldiers just as easily as male ones. SJWs have hit the gaming industry really hard.

Not gonna talk about zombies cause I'm tired of shooting zombies. ENOUGH ZOMBIES.

Campaign has a very good story and characters are interesting, but its too short. 6 hours is too little and this game was clearly developed multiplayer first with single-player as an afterthought. I won't be surprised when the day comes that CoD ships without a single player campaign.

DONT BUY THIS. LETS CHANGE THE INDUSTRY WE LOVE. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET.

Probably the biggest disappointment to a CoD game I've ever seen. With Infinite warfare, I at least assumed ahead of time is was going to be terrible.. but with CoD WWII, I was actually pulling for them pretty hard for it to be a good game.

Don't buy this game, only buy if you support items behind paywalls and a FPS formula we have seen many times before, although Activision have tried to make a solid campaign i cannot support this micro-shafting business practice we are seeing a lot in gaming lately. So if you do buy this game you are technically an enemy since your money is helping cripple this industry.

The only way these big corporations will understand is if we hit them where it hurts....the wallet.

No more lootboxes, no more micro-shafting in full priced AAA games.

    - A 7 hour campaign that does nothing but frustrate you; there's nothing new here, you've seen this before

CoD: WWII does well in showing off cinematics and has solid and fun gameplay, but stops right there. Because the story is so bland this game could just as well be another plastic looking game where you're fighting some made-up terrorists like in some previous CoD-titles. CoD isn't trying to make you live through WWII, but trying to rob you of not only your money but also a hope of getting closer to WWII. The producers haven't done their research, they didn't care enough about a solid campaign. But hey, there's a nazi zombie mode!

It is heavily scripted. Any CoD game was, but this time they thought the player is unable to do even the simplest things and have to rip him out of immersion every few minutes.

Your squad mates suddenly pop up in front of you, even though you think you lead the attack and then you almost shoot them, because you think they are the enemy, since they logically cant be in front of you.

The sound is so bad that you think your own character screaming is someone else behind you. Or you hear a German talking in front of you, which makes you think theres still one around, but then there actually is no enemy around anymore.

Explosions are bitmaps. Yes, you heard me, bitmaps. The game looks very good otherwise, but they use ugly bitmaps that always look the same for explosions. I tried to find a setting to fix this, but there isnt one. Everything is on max, yet you still see this crap.

You always get ripped out of immersion by cutscenes, which you never know when you control them or dont control them. Plus they add silly quicktime events to them, which is an absolute no-go in this time and age.

This game is very hard to predict either. One time it forces you along on train tracks and you cant do anything else than press one key to go forward, then the other time it suddenly expects logical and independent decisions from you, you dont expect at all and then mess up.

And then theres the microtransactions (ads), massive lack of realism & authenticity and the display of such blatant stereotypes, that the cringe level was just too much, because you think youre playing a character in an extremely low budget movie that has to hold up an ad every few minutes, so that this **** movie is even able to afford this crappy budget.

To put it simple: The game feels worse than a game from the 2000s with the graphics (mainly) from 2015, and sometimes from 1994. Its an insult to gamers in any way. Period. So its no surprise again, that bought people (not gamers) are rating it that highly.

World War II games have a major flaw: we already know what happens. The course of the war is already set, because it’s based in history. While the actual particular events can be made up, we know the general flow of things, and so it is very hard to surprise the audience in any meaningful way. Moreover, the audience rather EXPECTS to see many things out of a World War II game, such as the assault on the beaches of Normandy, or the Battle of the Bulge in a snowy forest around Christmas, so we not only know what is going to happen, we expect to see it.

What this means, however, is that it is very hard to get all that attached to the events – it’s literally history. The characters in the game are all affable enough, but they could be… well, anyone, really. They’re meant to be stand ins for all the men who fought during World War II, and they work in that job, but at the same time, it all just kind of feels like we’re going through the motions at this point.

This is compounded by the fact that World War II needs to play in a certain way to be historically accurate, which means that the weapons we use are not going to be particularly exciting or novel. They are a little bit clunkier than modern day FPS weapons by intent, and that’s fine, but the end result is that we’re playing a FPS using rather standard weapons in a standard war that cannot surprise us in any way.

And for some reason, this game contains collectibles, which, if you go searching for them, interrupt the gameplay for no good reason. Why are these in a game like this? The heroic actions at least made sense – saving someone or accepting someone’s surrender seems like reasonable optional things that slot nicely into the core gameplay – but searching for random items in levels is just not fun in a game like this.

The net result of all of this is a game that is like a bowl of oatmeal – it’s fine, there’s nothing WRONG with oatmeal, but we know exactly what we’re getting, and sadly, there’s no cinnamon in sight to spice it up, so it’s a bit bland and watery.

So it is with this game. The controls are a fine example of modern FPS design, running around, sliding, crouching or going prone, walking up behind enemies for stealth kills, climbing up waist-high walls by jumping at them – but there’s nothing added here to spice things up. The story has only one possible way it can go, the particulars aren’t strong enough to really make me care about the characters (though at least I can remember their personalities), and the gameplay is bog standard.

It’s kind of impossible to recommend something like this, but it was not bad to go through. It was just kind of forgettable.

As for the multiplayer… honestly, I thought it was pretty bad. I’ve never really liked super low time to kill, and the multiplayer has that in spades. I actually did surprisingly well in the small amount of it I played – I saw a lot of other new players, probably because of the Humble Monthly – but at the same time, it never really engaged me all that much. Getting shot at kills you almost faster than you can react a great deal of the time, and the same applies to shooting at enemies, and the characters are all pretty generic, without anything to spice them up or make them all that interesting or distinctive. It is what it is.

The zombies was honestly even worse. It’s amazing to me how, after Left 4 Dead did coop zombies so well, companies continue to make games that are vastly worse. This is just a horde shooting coop multiplayer mode with a single map (well, unless you fork over more money for more maps) with a series of things you need to do on it which aren’t explained very well. It was just kind of a mess to play, and I did not have a lot of fun playing it. The gameplay was only alright and the confusion about what I was supposed to do made it more annoying than anything else.

For a game with such nice graphics, it felt strangely unambitious. Black Ops 3 at least tried to do some interesting things; this just kind of felt like the most generic shooter possible. It wasn’t bad, but it never rose to the level of good. It was just kind of bland.

Censored **** So much stealth-like gameplay. Nothing interesting. Strong Female Character!
    Multiplayer is same like always.
Does it worth a buy: If you are blind sheep - YES
If you wanted authentic to WW2 - NO

The new Call of Duty is like a shopping list, in which the devs list one second-rate cliché after another. It's not always for the sake of it, but it's already making the WWII unique that everybody should play. [Issue#280]

A magnificent, but also a sympathetic, unpretentious return to the roots of the series. Yet the campaign is short-lived, and your next experience depends on how much you enjoy the multiplayer and/or shooting Nazi zombies.
