Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Call of Duty is back with an explosive single-player campaign that will delight fans of sci-fi action. Worries about the longevity of the online population aside, this year’s version is worth buying if you don’t mind a somewhat clunky multiplayer component.

To be able to walk around your own starship, to enter your quarters and study SDF command structure, to choose your new mission yourself – all these possibilities feel so fresh for Call of Duty. [Issue#214, p.68]

One of the best campaigns of the series, and one hell of a solid multiplayer. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare could be the boldest entry we’ve ever seen, though fans of Black Ops III might find Multiplayer and Zombies modes to be too familiar and frankly old-hat.

While no Call of Duty game has matched the comprehensive excellence of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the exploits of Reyes and Ethan are at least as memorable and moving as any deeds from “Soap” MacTavish and John Price during from the series' heyday.

It offers a popcorn-like action campaign and a great zombie mode, but multiplayer is just basic training.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is taking back the story aspect of the series to its roots. One of the best Call of Duty campaigns we've ever played.

Infinite Warfare has a lengthy list of things that should be fixed, but that being said, for the first time in many years I enjoyed playing a Call of Duty game.

The campaign is ignorable and the multiplayer needs a little technical work to be as good as last year’s, but the overly silly Zombies mode keeps me coming back. It may not stand out in a year that’s been crowded with great shooters, but it still produces that familiar Call of Duty action.

Call of Duty’s system requirements are way too high for what graphical prowess is on offer here. Performance-wise, Infinity Ward has done a poor job. The campaign is solid fun albeit so, so stupid, yet multiplayer hasn’t evolved at all since Black Ops 3. On PC, there are also long waiting times for matchmaking.

Call of Duty needs freshening up. Infinite Warfare has a surprisingly good single-player campaign and a still really good multiplayer. Unfortunately all of this looks like minimal touch ups on a gameplay core that hasn't changed in a decade. Players seem to think the same - new CoD debuted in a disappointing fashion, plus the console version behaves better than the PC one.

In the end, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is just OK, and that’s about the saddest thing you can say about a franchise that used to be the king of first-person shooters.

In the year that had so many good FPS games, Call of Duty failed to bring anything of importance to the medium. The tried and tested formula feels rather stale this year and we might've gotten to a point when the series should just take a break until it figures out what it wants to do.

Infinite Warfare got unleashed and it helped at least the single-player campaign and the Zombies mode. Neither of these however, offers enough joy to compete with other current games. Multiplayer is indeed robust, but quite common and, moreover, it suffers from several annoying bugs. In addition, the technical issues cripple the overall experience.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare occasionally rubs elbows with the best moments of its predecessors, but too much tedium and half-baked multiplayer make this one hard to recommend.
