LEVEL (Czech Republic)Dec 31, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has proven to all players, that it doesn´t need Hollywood faces in the story to attract players, because it’s completely fine with its online entertainment. Call of Duty is definitely going to stay with us for a couple more weeks. [Issue#290]
-
Oct 15, 2018The title features more modes, settings, and ways to engage than any game in the series I can recall. The blazing new Blackout mode steals the zeitgeist of the battle royale’s thunder, packaging it in a polished, powerful entry to the burgeoning genre. If you’re willing to eschew single-player completely, the payoff is worth it.
-
CD-ActionFeb 13, 2019It was a risky decision to drop the single player campaign and focus on multiplayer, including battle royale, which seemed like a cynical attempt to jump on the bandwagon. I’m a bit surprised to say that Treyarch did truly great. Black Ops 4 is one of the best online games of 2018 – its shooting mechanics are wonderful, Blackout (the aforementioned take on battle royale) is top-notch and the Zombies mode drifts towards... action RPG. [12/2018, p.78]

Oct 29, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is really fun to play and the natural progression of the players is a fantastic motivator to keep on playing. I can really say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 provides the best multiplayer experience in the franchise, and it’s not going to be a surprise when the next iteration is going to focus even more on this aspect.
-
Oct 18, 2018For me, Black Ops 4 is the best Call of Duty in years. I must also say that the single player campaign I haven't missed a minute. The three successful online modes are clearly more important to me than a bombastic, but very short single player fun.
-
Oct 11, 2018In Blackout, Treyarch has proved the series can still be agile and forward-thinking, while smart changes to Zombies and multiplayer show there's still plenty of life in these old bones.
-
Oct 29, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the fifteenth iteration of a storied Call of Duty franchise, blends old and new to put itself in the upper echelon of Call of Duty games. Despite its lack of a traditional campaign, the game impresses in plenty of other aspects. The newcomer mode, Blackout, puts a fun and compelling Call of Duty spin on the battle royale genre. Multiplayer's boots find the ground again and take me all the way back to my fondest memories of the original Black Ops. Although it's not historically my favorite type of mode, Zombies really kicks it up a notch, with more maps and customization than ever before (not to mention even crazier Easter Eggs).
-
Oct 25, 2018Although controversial, the decision to swap the single-player campaign for a popular and alien game mode shows a complete evolution in the franchise as it consolidates as one of the freshest installments in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has the real potential to make jaded veterans return to a game that feels different, fair and requires skill and, at the same time, is supported by two gigantic modes that are addictive and fun to play.
-
Oct 20, 2018The most comprehensive, varied, and balanced multiplayer experience in call-of-duty history.
-
Mar 6, 2019Zombies, multiplayer and battle royale. Black Ops 4 is whole package. With great blackout map, brutal and honest action, it will put all competition in danger. Standard multiplayer suffers from old issues, but is fun enough to guarantee tons of fun. Zombies are brilliant and refreshed with new Rush mod. Lack of single player campaign still hurts though.
-
Oct 25, 2018Black Ops 4 is by no means a perfectly consistent game, with the limp storytelling being a considerable low point, but it is the most exciting and ambitious the series has felt in quite some time. It's easy to focus on one particular mode, but the game becomes most impressive when taken as a whole. All three branches feel equally valuable, and jumping between them offers something different without sacrificing quality. Call of Duty has been going every year for what feels like forever, but Treyarch clearly shows that there's still plenty that can be done.
-
Oct 19, 2018Black Ops 4’s rough edges do hold it back from an even better execution of its best moments, but when you’re not experiencing those technical issues, any of Black Ops 4’s three modes make for an enjoyable shooter experience that feel distinct and personalized.
-
Oct 18, 2018We do miss the campaign and there are some rough edges, but Black Ops IIII is an excellent multiplayer experience. The battle royale and the zombie modes are a blast and, overall, we think CoD fans will love this new entry.
-
Oct 15, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a great multiplayer first-person shooter. Each of the three multiplayer modes plays in a number of unique diverse ways, but each maintains that core identity of a Call of Duty title.
-
Oct 11, 2018Those who played the PC version of Blackout in the open beta already know that the PC version is not an awkwardly masked port, but a game that has been built entirely from scratch for this platform - from navigation through menu screens and gunplay to customization options that a PC player can expect.
-
Game World Navigator MagazineDec 21, 2018Absence of story campaign aside, Black Ops 4 managed to keep the traditional gameplay of the series as well as venture into the uncharted territories of Battle Royale genre – with a reasonable amount of success. [Issue#234, p.44]
-
Nov 5, 2018Was it worth it to sacrifice the single-player campaign? If this was the only way to create this awesome multiplayer package, then yes, absolutely. Black Ops 4 channels the spirit of the first two Modern Warfare games, and this is an achievement by itself.
-
Oct 30, 2018Deprived of its usual solo campaign, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 looks more like a patchwork than a whole, tight experience. Nonetheless, its multiple game modes, among which the first AAA Battle Royale, have enough to offer.
-
Oct 23, 2018The game is highly optimized for performance, with the exception of the low 20Hz tick rate.
-
Oct 20, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 lands with a quality combination featuring multiplayer, Zombies, and the new Blackout battle royale mode. It's a clean, polished package of multiplayer goodness all around. The lack of single-player campaign still hurts, but for some, it probably won't be missed.
-
Oct 16, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, in certain aspects, is a wonder to behold. The crisp animations, fluid movement, solid gunplay, and frantic action that has defined the franchise is here in its full glory. Losing the single-player campaign isn’t a big issue once you’ve tried and tested the different features the game has to offer. Treyarch made this bold decision, and Beenox followed through with creating a PC version from the ground up.
-
Oct 13, 2018Black Ops 4 feels like one of the strongest Call of Duty entries to come along in years. Despite not having a solo campaign or some of the past games' more bombastic mechanics, Treyarch has proved the adage that "less is more." And this game's "less" is good enough to keep me waiting around for "more."
-
Oct 12, 2018Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has absolutely revived the series. With Blackout mod and special characters, we have a new game which will keep us busy for very long time to come.
-
Oct 16, 2018A quality-made but unsurprising multiplayer FPS that offers refined versions of the current most popular modes and top-tier shooting.
-
Oct 23, 2018If you have not played a Battle Royale game before, or hate the two I mentioned above, do not sleep on Black Ops 4. Jump in and see what Battle Royale is SUPPOSED to be. If the only mode that interests you is standard multiplayer, maybe you will love it and maybe you will hate it. It truly just depends on what you look for in a multiplayer shooter today.
-
Oct 23, 2018With no campaign, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is still a capable sequel with three decent multiplayer offerings. Blackout is an addictive campfest. Zombies has more content than ever before but remains stuck in its ways. Last but not least, traditional multiplayer remains strong as it puts emphasis on teamwork and brings a few intelligent new modes across solid maps.
-
Nov 5, 2018With no campaign, Battle Royale mode really shines. Zombie co-op mode is surprisingly addictive, but there is another surprise – big technical errors you wouldn’t expect in an Activision game.
-
Oct 16, 2018CoD Black Ops 4 is a good game, where Treyarch succeeds in offering a AAA Battle Royale experience packed with goods ideas. The Zombie mode is bigger and exhilarating, but unfortunately the classic multiplayer mode doesn't offer anything really new. All that is not enough to make us all forget the solo campaign, which totally disappeared in this episode.
-
Nov 8, 2018Black Ops 4 combines all the elements of pop culture in gaming and the ease of access the franchise has always offered into one of the best Call of Duty games to come out in recent time. However, the AAA asking price for a minimized full title is slightly unnerving, as the game cannot and does not offer a full experience.

Oct 13, 2018Blackout is the best part of this year’s Call of Duty package, and might even justify the cost of entry even with no singleplayer campaign. It hews very close to PUBG’s mold, maybe a bit too close for those who already have battle royale fatigue, but it repackages those ideas in the most polished form I’ve seen so far.
-
Oct 13, 2018For now, even at the base, $59.99 level, there is a lot of game packaged into this vaguely Call of Duty-shaped casing.
-
Oct 19, 2018I do find Black Ops 4’s tone genuinely disagreeable. Even so, I can see myself spending a few more evenings toying with this angry man’s guns.
