I'm suprised the game got so many good reviews from websites. I played Borderlands 1 for over 50 hours, and compared to Borderlands 2 in which i spent probably 20-30 hours already, it's exactly the same game with some improvements. Yes it is better than the first one but if you played the first one you're gonna get bored quickly, it really feels like gearing and leveling up all over again with nothing new to expect. You're gonna face the same enemies over and over again, along with a story you're already gonna know what's going to happen before finishing it. The characters have some personality but most of them are annoying because they're trying too hard to be funny, like the little girl acting all ghetto, claptrap is probably the only good one. I expected a lot more from this game but it didn't live up to the hype it got. If there's gonna be a third part they sure need to come up with new stuff. I would rather have more challenging enemies than a horde of idiots you're gonna kill anyway, the enemies sure get annoying, the robots are probably the worst. I'll give it a 6, after all it's still a solid game and improvement from the first Borderlands, but it's nothing new. Expand

I was never a fan of Borderlands, but then a week ago, a friend gave me a Steam key for BL2 and I played the game, enjoyed the freaking hell out of the game, became a fan and have been addicted to this game for the past week. Borderlands 2 is the one and ONLY game released in 2012 that actually pleased me enough to play it a 2nd time. Borderlands 2 is my Number 1 game of 2012.

Extremely repetitive game. If you have played one quest in this game you have played them all. Go to x get b kill everything. YOu kill the same enemy types the entire game over and over.

I was enormously pleased to see that the game surpassed any and all expectations that i had come to nurse so tenderly during the pre-release period. The UI wasn't a huge improvement over the original game but everything else was a vast improvement. The game play maintained its fast paced, over the top FPS action and the controls felt nothing short of perfect. The character classes were varied and skill trees even more so. The plot was enjoyable, funny and filled with plenty of twists and events that made me quite literally exclaim my disbelief. Claptrap is now absolutely hilarious instead of infuriating and irritating. The enemies are varied and requires varied strategies to take them down. A lot of effort was put into making the game a lasting success such as changing the enemy models for your second play through. It really makes you feel like you're continuing on instead of just starting over again as so many games make you feel. Oh and how could i forget the guns. So so many guns. Borderlands advertised millions of gun combinations but it doesn't stand remotely close to the guns in the sequel. The look of awe on my friends faces as I whip out an automatic laser sniper rifle with reflective silver plating was priceless. Speaking of friends, i'd recommend playing with them. Although the game is fun on your own, you don't get nearly the same experience as you do if you play with others. Overall, if you're looking for a fun game for you and a friend, pick this up. I'm serious. You're in for hours of laughter, high paced shooty action and gawking over the sheen and polish that the developers put into this wonderful game. Expand

Bad - Lots of texture and physics problems. Within the first two hours I had to quit to the menu due to getting stuck in a wall. Can see/shoot enemies through walls - and they can sometimes do the same to you. Some aspects might make sense on a console, but are cumbersome on a PC. For example the in-game menu system (skill points, inventory) is still clunky with a mouse. Best to just use arrow keys and Enter/Esc. You can tell the game was designed to be played on a 50" screen, and they just shrunk everything down when viewed on a 22" screen. Item tool tips are needlessly large and take up too much screen real estate.

Back to the good - weapon customization is better this time around. Real difference between weapon manufactures. Shields and class mods can have negative attributes, which is interesting. Completing achievements gives you "bad ass ranking" which can be used to give single digit percentage gains to various things like weapon damage, reload speed, grenade dmg, etc - that apply to all characters. Bought this on a Steam sale for like $22. Glad I didn't pay more than that. Debating buying any of the DLCs due to texture/physics issues above.

Selfish players go on their own with no consequence. The game does little to nothing in awarding team oriented actions, and punish the lone rangers (monster spawns for lagging players would be very effective). The guns and the AI personalities are the most interesting points of the game. Network connections are buggy, and host based. If the host bails from a story/mission, the game ends. And finally, the graphics. Borderlands2 could have done a much better job at graphics, but they took the easy way out. The cartoon/art graphics is unique, but woefully inadequate in comparison to today's video capabilities that developers can exploit.

Shooting monsters is the fun part, when you can actually get to them. Outside of that, mass boredom.

I will say though, the gameplay really didn't take off until the second playthrough. Playing 2 playthroughs back to back did make me feel impatient at times to rush through the story so I could level up and enjoy the unfolding abilities. some of the levels were extremely FUN- the arena areas come fore-most to my mind in this regard. Multiplayer is very rewarding, as each classes' special abilities can create combos that have devastating results. My biggest gripes comes from the gearbox keys and end-game "content" the keys are so hard to come-by (and you only acquire them at a rate of 1 per account), that you feel like you're forced to wait until level 50 to use them, and when you do, the random loot system seems to give you crap, such as grenade mods, or class mods for a class you don't play. the DLC is fun, but the cost per expansion makes the dollar value only worth it if you bought that season pass special. The game does nothing new either, however, the first game brought with it a working formula, so it makes sense that it hasn't changed - but you do find yourself wishing that it had changed, adding a layer of depth beyond fetch quests and collecting loot. Having said that, the concept is still as enjoyable now as in the first game and I've had a blast playing through it in co-op (and now replaying it with a different class build at the higher level difficulty). So far I am totally impressed. I plan to add more to my review later and possibly adjust the score. As of now, the things that stick out in this game are...

    1. Better visuals than the first game, albeit slightly. With details cranked to maximum Borderlands 2 (a DX9 game) is surprisingly one of the prettiest on the market, thanks in large part to an impressive art-style.

    2. Story. Unlike in the first game, players have a very real objective and a very real enemy from the moment the game starts. This is an improvement over the first game, as it's always important to get the player involved early in the story.

    3. Gunplay is extremely satisfying. Aiming down the sights, shooting from the hip - however you go about it, the gameplay in Borderlands 2 is very intense and very satisfying. The enemies are tenacious, and are intelligent enough to dodge gunfire and predict your movements.

    4. Rewarding. The game rewards the players with a non-stop barrage of usable weapons and loot. This is a refreshing change of pace for someone coming over from Diablo 3.

    5. Well optimized. This game is not very demanding and can be played on max settings without being too greedy with system resources. Just about any mid-range machine can play this game to it's fullest potential, and it runs like a dream.

As I said before, I will add more as I play more. But I can already tell that Borderlands 2 is something very special.

A great game that 100% embraces what it is and does not try to be anything else. It is not a massive upgrade over the first game but more what Borderlands should have been. Had the original come out only last year there may not be enough innovation here to justify the sequel but I feel it has been long enough that I am ready for another romp around Pandora.

The game is big, if you do the majority of the side quests you are looking at roughly 55 hours to make it through the story and you will be roughly level 35 (level cap is 50). The environments are not as varied as they could be but there are far more of them then where in the first game, yet they all fell like part of Pandora. There seems to be roughly double the number of enemy types and the game does a good job at changing things up. Just when i am getting tired of a certain enemy I end up going up against something different. The weapons are still mostly randomly generated, there does seem to be a greater variety, it could be better but there is almost always something new to try.
    .
Where the game vastly improved was the story. They did a great job with Handsome Jack and setting him up as the primary protagonist. Along the way you will meet and kill many other eccentric characters but the entire game you are moving towards the final confrontation with Jack. I found the writing for the most part to be very witty, a few childish jokes but for the most part double entendras that gave me a chuckle if not laugh out loud. The classes are a bit more varied then they were in the first game, it also feels more like you are picking a character instead of a class. Each character has a back story that gets somewhat explored during the game, they also each have their own personality and a unique play mechanic.
    .
All in all a great game with lots of gameplay, a quality story, lots of fun guns, a passable leveling system. It looks good, runs smoothly, excellent voice work and a unique art style. We dont need a sequel next year but by 2014 maybe 2015 I will be ready for a another sequel.

However, Borderlands was not without its flaws, and after a wait of three years, Gearbox has finally given us something the long-awaited successor, Borderlands 2.

Borderlands 2 is everything a sequel should be. It maintains the core formula that made the first game so great, improves upon it in almost every way and fixes the flaws that troubled its predecessor. The "Role-playing shooter" label that Borderlands has been given accurately describes what the game is about. It has all the makings of a fun first person shooter; lots of guns, a variety of enemies to face and robust shooting mechanics. But it's also got the elements that make role-playing games so addictive. On top of being a perfectly competent shooter, Borderlands 2 incorporates RPG elements such as skill trees, inventories, and most importantly, looting. It's insanely rewarding to clear out an area, open a weapons chest and find that perfect gun you were looking for, then upgrade your skills to match your new playing style.

Of the characters in Borderlands 1, only the Siren returns, this time in the form of Maya. The other three are completely new; Axton, a Commando, who has the characteristics of the soldier from the first game; Salvador the Gunzerker, a completely new character who can dual wield any two weapons as his special ability; and Zer0, an assassin with a badass sword who can turn invisible take out the enemy silently. These four make up for an interesting cast, and varied in the way in which they play. If you're planning on playing Borderlands 2 co-op with four players, it'd make for great diversity if each picked a different character. The contrast in playing styles, weapons used and skills invested in means that you're in for a really enjoyable experience if you work together with your friends. However, note that while Borderlands 2 supports up to four player co-op Online, it only supports two players playing split-screen locally.

The graphic style is identical to that of the original game, and you won't notice any major improvements in the texture quality. But it's the little things that make Borderlands 2 feel like a better game than what the first was. The game runs much more smoothly, there's less texture pop-ins (though still some), each gun has its own unique reload animation, chests open more extravagantly, and most importantly, the environments really come alive. In the original game, you spent the majority of the game in a barren desert or wasteland, only switching to a tundra-type environment towards the end of the game. In Borderlands 2, you're given a much wider variety of environments to explore, all of which are more vibrant and prettier to look at than the ones in the first game.

You'll likely find the game-play similar too, but in a fresh, upgraded way that reminds you of the first game without feeling like the same thing. You can wield up to four guns (out of 87 bazillion), and many more in your inventory, though by the end of the game you'll likely have switched your favourite weapon many a time for a better one you've found. The lack of a weapon proficiency system means that you can't take one low-level gun and go through the whole game with it using it and upgrading its stats, which I find disappointing, but it's a subtle flaw that's easy to overlook when the game is this much fun. All the guns feel unique, look unique and sound unique. Some have their own special effects, my favourite of which is an assault rifle with exploding rounds. The gunplay feels very fast-paced and eventful, and each character can use their special skill at any time if it has cooled down. These are designed to offer you an edge over the competition, although if truth be told, so long as you keep switching weapons for better ones and generally get better, the game shouldn't prove much of a challenge.

All the improvements that Gearbox had made to Borderlands with its Downloadable Content have seemingly been implemented in Borderlands 2 from the start. The story is actually enjoyable, there are tons of guns, more customization and new vehicles. In every way, this feels like a better game than Borderlands. From the mini-map to the much more accessible and pretty user interface, to the characters, to the story, to the gunplay and environments, Borderlands 2 is an improvement over what was already a fantastic game, and that is why you should buy it.

I was so excited for this release. It was a decent game, but frankly I thought the elimination of the hunter for the assassin was kinda weak. Way more boring being the assassin. I couldn't stand the characters and the voice acting along with them. The sequences when I had to talk to people in a town felt soo tedious. I just wanted them to cut the **** it's Borderlands, not Fallout. Just let me run, gun and loot. Character development has never been the highlight of Borderlands, and that remains the same in this one. I felt like the dialogue was written for children for the most part. A good attempt, but definitely not my cup of tea. Maybe I'll run through it next time I bake some edibles and give it a second chance, but I got to a point playing it where I was just sick of it 30 hours in, and couldn't play it anymore. 6/10. - in my opinion the voice acting of many enemies is obscene, with midgets crying like little babies when they die, goliaths shouting as demented "looney tunes" cartoon characters, et cetera.
    - difficulty is quite variable, from incredibly easy to very tough depending on same level quests, - inventory is too much reduced,
    - quality loot is extremely rare, and unlike in Borderlands 1 enemies rarely drop the guns they are using during the battles. the last 2 feature are not a huge problem, but if we consider the overall tone of the game, the result is very much a delusion.
I'm very sorry to write this, but it is what I really think after playing Borderlands 2. There are anyway some good features, as
    - the variety of the classes - the variety of situation the player has to face during the campaign quests and the side quests. - The environment is quite beautiful and the cars available are really fun to use. - Claptrap is as always a funny egocentric robot, the only part of the game that made me smile a little bit. This is it. More objectively, the game is not worth its price, even if the DLCs have been quickly dispatched from gearbox right after a few weeks.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Borderlands 2 is a decent game. Unfortunately it finds itself in the uncomfortable situation of being compared to Borderlands. The world is small, the enemies are repetitive and few in variation. You spend half the time fighting one type of enemy and the other half another type. Every now and then you come across some animals to fight. The weapons and shields were designed so that children would go crazy, because the higher the numbers the better. When an average weapons does 20.000+ damage, things get silly. What's wrong with weapons doing at best around 400 damage? When you create your character you find yourself on a train, that explodes. Apparently some bad guy named Jack blew it up because he don't want vault hunters on the planet. The planet is a in a crisis. A huge crisis. Hyperion is taking over. Apparently Atlas, a company richer than any nation went bankrupt. General Knoxx and the Crimson Lance were defeated in a Borderlands DLC. I've never heard of a nation going bankrupt because they lost a battle. Anyways, Jack is bad and is threatening Pandora. Things are really bad. Where is this feel of a threat? Nowhere. Borderlands 2 tells you how bad things are, but doesn't show it or make you feel it the slightest. The weapons are linear and dull. Everything in Borderlands 2 is dull at best. But they did something right. I honestly don't know what it is. If you consider playing Borderlands 2, make sure you don't play Borderlands first, because Borderlands will completely ruin the Borderlands 2 experience. Expand

Borderlands 2's campaign is incredibly witty and can get almost anybody laughing, the characters are abundantly quirky and just the sort this sort of game needs, but the game to me lacked replayability due to a number of factors including what seemed like a lack of super-cool rare eridium weapons that the original had, requiring no ammunition, high firepower and amazing style, though i know eridium weapons were included they still felt like the other bazillion weapons in the game. Another factor that seemed to have been attempted to be overdone and in that sense, overlooked, was customisation; each character had character trees suited to that characters style but it did not feel like they lived up to the borderlands style of sheer badassery but rather felt mellow in comparison to the original, i personally struggled to find a reason why i would spend time building my character 'Zero' from a single character tree when the finale' abilities didn't seem worth the wait. I also desperately missed the weapon proficiencies from the original borderlands because they meant that when i got bored of using the same weapons that were suited to my character i could switch it up and still feel like i was gaining something; this is a tragic miss due to the mechromancer whose ability work on status effects rather than weapon damage so she really gains little benefit from a highpowered gun. Overall i give borderlands 2 a 7 because even with the lacking of some of borderlands 1's fun features it still kept me entertained throughout the campaign and the new addition of badass ranks was ingenious, but i dont feel it calls to me for a replay. However , this time, you have a tangible objective and an evil bastard to gun down, as compared to rather mindless treasure hunting in the first game. Along your side will be a whole new cast of Vault Hunters, along with their new skills, and even more guns to shoot with. Maintaining the core gameplay mechanics of its predecessor and strongly holding on to traditional RPG elements, it's a pretty massive and welcome sequel . The game felt as fresh as eating Sashimi in a roadside restaurant in Japan - weird analogy, but you get what it feels like, right? right? The graphic style stays, albeit being much more polished and flexible. Want no AA ? No problem, all catered for in the PC VERSION [ not a port, mind you ] of this game. Environments feel more varied and organised as compared to vast wastelands with fixed mob spawns [ cough, looking at you spiderants and the leech-looking thingies from the original ]. But hey, that's what happens after you leave Pandora at the hands of who might be the most sarcastic and eclectic tyrant ever. While I did say gameplay remained largely the same, there were minor tweaks in the system which I felt was rather significant. The game's difficulty has been cranked up. Remember how you can still manage a group of equal-levelled bandits in the original and come out with a bruise ? In this game you'll probably get pinned down in a matter of seconds ( this is very true in later playthroughs ). Personally I rarely ever had problems with the encounters, but some parts of the game are just hyperbolic in difficulty and thus forcing you into [ sniping ] a certain approach. But for that matter, co-op play is there for you, so no real complaints over there. You will use your action skill a lot more and find that loot, more often than not, will disappoint you. Assault Rifles have been the biggest let down in this game, at the cost of other weapons being noticeably a lot more powerful. Yes, looking at you shotguns and rocket launchers. There are a 'bazzillion guns' -- pfft yeah, more like 8 manufacturers with 4 different gun types for each weapon type and RNG-spawned statistics + a template to go with it. Nevertheless, It's really RPG-Like and it should stay that way, albeit probably at the cost of a few more broken windows and controllers. Tee Hee.

Multitudes of other small tweaks such as A NEW ELEMENT and the ever-expanding variety of grenade mods, class mods and shields { exploding shields ! ] are just creative and definitely diversifies a player's approach to the game. The game's writing... can be categorized into a hit or a miss. Anything in between just feels flat. Some characters outright just try to make you laugh by exaggerating their lingo and speaking in a certain manner that felt so damn cheesy when I was playing the game. I can't really put my finger on it, so it's either hilarious or just a failed attempt at comedy. Definitely a lot livelier than the first one [ plus Claptrap is actually FUNNY this time round ], but with that amount of spirit comes a lot of energy that was misplaced. Sorry, Gearbox, So there you go. The game's main antagonist, Handsome Jack is an exception though -- you'll have to figure out why yourself. With Jasper Kyd composing the soundtrack, we obviously have a strong contender for the Game of The Year.

I hate cheesiness and this game just emanates a whole lot of it- so, as a whole experience, Borderlands 2 is a solid 8.
If I didn't give a **** about the cheesiness and overlook the silly premise of this whole contemporary culture influences thing going on in the game, let's just say this 70-hour experience deserves a 9.

    Final Verdict: 8.5

As in movies, very often game sequels are never as good as the original. Borderlands 2 is thankfully, one of the exceptions. I can't say enough good things about this game. Very few games' anticipated release affect me and make me want to pre-order. Even Skyrim (a game I had been drooling over since it was announced) wasn't quite enough to entice me to pre-order it - I waited for a couple of months till I got a new computer and it went on sale. But I pre-ordered Borderlands 2 almost as soon as it was announced.

    Bottom line?

    Playability - 9 out of 10
    Replayability - 10 out of 10
Sheer Fun Factor - 15 out of 10!!!

Even for the AAA title price tag this game is a must for every FPS fan.

This is a great game that is brought down by some bad design decisions. First off the 3d inventory and skill menus are horrid. The 2d menus from BL1 worked just fine. To counter this Gearbox, evidently, decided to make BL2 harder. The problem is that it is a bit too hard in spots for many gamers in play through one. In play-through 2, labeled True Vault Hunter Mode, it gets far, far harder. I have heard many complaints on this mode. Since you don't get to fill out all the skill trees for your character in play-through one, closing this mode off to some of your player base is disturbing. The game also requires a lot of farming because drop rates of good equipment are low enough to require it to progress. No, you won't be playing the game organically, you have to meta game. Don't get me wrong, this is a great game at its heart. It just isn't consistently fun and there are plenty of games out there nowadays that are. Expand

And then you saw/heard that BL2 is just more of the same.

It's true - this isn't a revolution in gaming, nor a clean slate... but it is a fine continuation of the things that worked well in the original, and there are plenty of new twists, so that this doesn't feel like just another episode (like FIFA13 or MW2). It's also true that not all the jokes are funny, and all those 'new' guns are just tweaks.

But all that aside, I'm having more fun with this one than the first one, to be honest. The gameplay doesn't get old quickly, and the main villain is great fun. I finished the main storyline and immediately found myself having another run... you just don't mind trying to find new ways of going about the same challenges. So if you can deal with not having a completely new experience, then you're in for a treat. Think of it as revisiting one of your favorite movies, but in an extended, director's cut - it looks familiar, but you love seeing the movie again, and there's plenty of new stuff to make it feel fresh.

I have played thousands of games in my lifetime and this is one of the very few games to take itself and its customers so seriously as to make a sequel that is better in every way imaginable. Nothing this explosive as a sequel has come out of the industry since Mario Brothers and Final Fantasy. Since then gamers have been getting ripped off in every way imaginable it seems BL2 even released with fewer bugs than I have seen in a PC release in over a decade.

I very rarely write game reviews since there is so much garbage out there, but this game deserves a lot of gamer love.

The story is a lot more serious, and I got a pretty good feeling a Borderlands 3 is gonna come up with an even more serious story. The weapons have more variety and each of the companies that make the weapons now have more noticeable differences, e.g. Bandit guns have names like "pro shooty boom gnu" and Tediore guns explode a lot (i can't remember if it was Tediore; I haven't played in a while). Which is quite funny. Overall, I think people could give this game a try, it fits well for just about any FPS/RPG player.

Now I wanted to love Borderlands 2, I truly did, but something about the game was rubbing me the wrong way all the way through. After finishing the second playthrough and clocked over 100 hours, I can say this at least:

A lot of people, hell almost everyone keeps claiming that Borderlands 2 is a big improvement upon the original and that everything is better then the first, truth is it really isnt true.

Some of the most important aspects are done poorly, the guns is a big important part of the game and in the original it wasnt hard to find a gun you found to be perfect. a uber shotgun with high accuracy, 30 round drum, fast fire rate, fast reload speed, pretty much the perfect gun. Well let me stop you right here, you will never, EVER find such a gun in Borderlands 2. Every single gun in this game has something negative to it, in fact I'd go as far as saying they only excel at one aspect at best. Either you have a big clip, or you do high damage, or you have high accuracy, but you'll never have them all. This annoyed me greatly. In 100+ hours I never found a good combat rifle, never found that shotgun that felt just right, etc

Another thing that is done poorly, especially in a game like this that promotes Co-Op so badly, is weapon sharing, it is none existant. in the original game, each character was subtly suggested to use certain weapon types, and this is further encouraged by getting weapon levels after using a type of weapon for a while, which increased the parameters for that type of weapon, for example roland has talents for assault rifles and shotguns, and by using those weapons a lot you get experience in those weapons so you are less likely to pick up other types of weapons and stick with those you specilise in. In BL2 that system is thrown out of the window, everyone is good with all weapon types, which is good, but it also ment I spent 60% of the game with a sniper...as did all of the people I played with, and whenever a weapon chest was opened EVERYONE wanted EVERYTHING, you never heard "hey there is a good smg for you here" or "you take that assault rifle, i speciilize in shotguns" they didnt think that through.

third, and this is just a opinion but I found the humor just not the same this time around, part of what made borderlands 1 so good was the writing. The random events that happend and the dialogue the NPCs said it just fit really well in the world of pandora, even little things like the vendor machine dialogue this time around the NPCs, most of which are newly introduced characters just arent funny, the cutscenes feel forced, the jokes are pretty lame, I didnt chuckle once at these jokes.

Honestly I feel they focused too much on the wrong things. I can honestly tell you, that the few things that were wrong with the original game are fixed in the sequel. The poorly intigrated multiplayer, the constant wasteland enviroment and the relatively easy difficulty of the original, and in that sense, yes they improved the game, but they also butchered the well executed aspects of the original.

Long story short, they focused too much on the story, the enemy variety and uniquely looking enviroment, and weapon looks, but the cost was too high, writing is bad in this game, guns never feel good, and because everyone uses the same guns, co-op is almost pointless since everyone wants to use the same guns, and its impossible to decide who gets what this time around.

I played it for 100 hours so oblivously it wasnt a terrible game, but neither was it exciting.

Where to start? This game is fun, especially to those who enjoy the Diablo and Torchlight franchises, and is a big improvement over the original. The graphics are good and Physx, although gimmicky, is amazing to look at in co-op. The guns are all revamped and the environments and enemies are more diverse. It all blends really well together. The story is a bit cliche, although there are plenty of intense moments, made all the more fun with multiple players in a game.
I'd like to go into more detail with the flaws, however. While the guns are generally more fun to use, I've got a problem with two particular weapon groups: assault rifles and revolvers. There seems to be a lack of accurate assault rifles, since Hyperion doesn't seem to make them anymore. There are really powerful ones by Jakobs, and some fire grenades, but those aren't automatic. And then you've got pistols which are much more satisfying to use, but revolvers are just Jakobs, Jakobs, Jakobs, and many of them lack proper laser sights, which were vital in Borderlands 1.
There are some scaling issues, i.e. level scaling and the way the level to HP ratio scales. This game is harder, but much of the difficulty derives from the fact that enemies of the same level or just one level above can annihilate you even if don't suck, and even in a one-on-one firefight: the problem here is, why should I lose on a one-on-one firefight, even if I'm a level or so lower? It doesn't make sense. If enemies dealt a little less damage and had just a little less HP, this problem would be fixed. About the level to HP ratio, well, you'll start noticing large gaps in the HP increments as you gain levels (more specifically, from Lv 25 onward). This isn't exactly a problem at first sight - not until you realize that enemies scale in much the same way, and what that means is that the awesome gun you found at Lv 26 that you do not want to let go of may be rendered almost useless by Lv 30. This is unlike the first game, where an Anarchy could easily last you at least 15 levels until you get a new one. While this does encourage to search for better guns, it can prove to be a nuisance.
My last complaint is only minor, but I find some of the mildly immature humour irritating at times. But this is where the flaws end. Gearbox has done it right this time, in my opinion, so I most certainly recommend this game.

The gameplay seems a bit smoother, the art seems a bit more polished, and rocket launchers can actually do damage! That being said, there are a few things I would like to inform any potential buyers: 1. The loot system, while apparently expanded, seemed a tad bit limited. Oh sure, you find guns that have better stats and they might even have a new skin, but because all the gun manufacturers have their own "quirks" that apply to EVERY gun they make (i.e. all hyperion guns start out inaccurate but gain accuracy the longer you fire), all the guns seem rather similar. You no longer get the "HX480" prefix in your gun titles, which, while it might appeal to many gamers, also makes it harder to see if you have a gun made up of the perfect parts. Also, if you have been following the press releases about the game, the advertised "thrown together" aspects of Bandit guns are out. Originally there were supposed to be beer bottles in place of scopes and a screw that you look down when in ADS mode. It seems that now all bandit guns have is a "dirty" or graffiti'd paint job. 2. The environments have definitely been expanded upon, with caverns and mines filled with acid to a modern city open for you to loot and shoot your way through. The problem that might turn off some gamers is that the devs added more obstacles for you to run past so that there is a greater sense of progression. This is, in my opinion, a double edged sword because this leads to a cluster of terrain that is almost impossible to navigate without using the map. 3. Badass points: You gain badass points whenever you do challenges like "shoot x amount of enemies with sniper rifles". You can then spend these points on upping gun damage, reload speed, etc. This replaces the weapon proficiency system of BL1, so that some gamers wouldn't feel committed to using the type of gun they had used up to that point. On the other hand, you don't feel like you are improving with a certain weapon type, which cuts down on a bit of the RPG aspects IMO. 4. Gore: In order to release world-wide uncut, Gearbox disabled decapitations. In BL1, a headshot with a decent sniper rifle and *boom*. Head gone. In BL2, even though the blood from the headshot still spews out like in the prequel, the enemy models still retain their heads. This is a rather minor complaint, but judging from the Gearbox forums, there are a good number of people ticked off by this.

All in all, I think that this is a pretty good game. The only setbacks I thought it had were conscious decisions made by Gearbox and, while I might not be the specific market they are trying to appeal to, there is still enough shoot and loot for me to enjoy BL2 immensely. I'd also keep in mind that Gearbox was trying to release Aliens colonel marines and Duke Nukem Forever at the same time, which might explain the lack of innovation in terms of Bandit weapons. My hope is they balance the innovations (the manufacturer "quirks") in BL3.

However I'm 30 hours in and I can feel the repetitive gameplay become more evident as the novelty wears off. I didn't play Borderlands 1 and I can imagine if I had I'd be quite bored.

My main complaint is with the limited scale of the areas. The game world feels cramped, this is no Capital Wasteland. I make the comparison as the scale, complexity and exploration aspects of Fallout 3 is something that I started to crave. Especially as when completing an area, taking up to an hour to advance the story, the next side mission you take often has you going literally around in circles through the same area you've just cleared, fighting instantly respawned enemies, and even respawned bosses. I've come to the conclusion that running through the story missions and actively avoiding side missions is the only way I can keep interest in the game after the 25 hour mark.

The bipedal enemies are fun in the most part, but the creature enemies I found annoying. They almost always run at you and swarm you, which is doubly annoying when they respawn behind you. And finally the big USP is the limitless amount of guns. This is slightly disingenuous as there are 4 gun classes underneath which all guns are roughly similar. They have randomised stats, and effects which once you've seen them, aren't too interesting. The loot powers up with your level, so you'll never stumble across a great gun early on. Which also makes playing early side missions and going back to early areas after you've levelled up pointless as all the loot is underpowered, and which is another tick against doing side missions.

This game is pretty but shallow. Which is upsetting as I was hoping for something a bit more subversive, gritty, and epic in scale. If you can live with the repetitiveness and want to get lost in the art style I recommend it. For me I'm counting the days until Firaxis release Xcom.

I don't personally see a problem with that, they've tightened up some of the controls, added auto pickup for cash and ammo (that mostly works), and tweaked here and there to make it a more exciting experience. That has been more than enough for me to get 50+ hours out of the game so far and enjoy every single minute of it. Expand

Borderlands 1 was pitch perfect; this one goes even further! Excellent graphics, excellently designed guns and terrain. Great gameplay mixed with lots of explosions is a must these days and this game does just that. It combines everything that a FPS player wants and turns it into a masterpiece. Great game, deffinetely better than it's predecessor.

It is a nice game but I don't know... i have the same felling when a played the first borderlands... is repetitive. After all, is a very nice design and a very nice gameplay... I like the humor in this game and also the multiplayer.

Perfect FPS RPG game combined. The story is somewhat disturbing but it's a plot twist so everything is cool. More guns, explosive shields, easter eggs... what more could you ask for?

    Fantastic!

This game is a Beast only those who have the might to take it on shall fall in ranks, this game is on another level is creativity and they pack a mean punch when it comes to game play. if only there were more great games of this magnitude released in the year we would be o so soaked in marvelous games. now lets take this time to thank the makers of BL2 and salute them with pride! After over 50 hours of gameplay, I'd just beaten the game a few minutes ago, and didn't want to write this review until I'd done so. In comparison to the first, Gearbox not only gave BL2 a graphics upgrade, but also an in-depth story to keep the player engaged - a quality missing from the first game. And yes, you will learn to hate Handsome Jack. In conclusion, if you enjoyed the first Borderlands, you will likely enjoy this sequel just as much, if not more. Expand

The game moves very slow. I like to call it "Borederlands 2." This game simply doesn't appeal to me. They needed more time to fix it and fill in empty spaces.

Well done game. Has funny moments. Love the characters for the most part. But I feel Borderlands 2 is not much of an improvement over the first. I think Zero's skill is fairly useless you might agree or disagree but I shouldn't have to be level 50 to benefit from it. It's a decent game but if you expect it to be better or different from the first you'll be sorely disappointed if you buy it. Stunning graphics but glitchy quests and lack of patches so far can be bothersome. If you enjoyed Borderlands 1 you will enjoy this game. Plenty of loot to find if that tickles your fancy. You're able to replay it after you beat it the first time on a harder setting which is fine to cap off to 50 but I doubt it will change your gaming experience at all. Easter eggs were a plus as well. Fair game overall, too much repetition for my taste but the co-op is the only way to play as far as i'm concerned. Much easier than the first to join co-op games that was probably the best improvement over the first. Expand

Just beaten the game 1st time. It's the same borderlands, but better!
Borderlands 2 lost a little bit of art style somewhere, but gained a little bit of physics, more humor and great amount of badassesness.

The game is very rewarding, though at some times it can be difficult for certain types of players (i like to TANK with a Rogue, but that's just me). The graphics are very similar to the first Borderlands graphics, but the animations are a lot better B2. Also the AI is a little better, enemies get out of the way of your bullets fast, hide for a long time while simultaneously throwing very well aimed grenades, also i just loved how ,sometimes, low health enemies hide behind full-health Badass Enemies when you're trying to get a second wind, effectively screwing with you. Just a side note, the first couple of levels will seem very difficult to attain and the game may get frustrating sometimes, but you will adapt quickly and the fun will resume. Bravo for Gearbox, i hope they keep this up and give us many more surprises in the future. Expand

Being a Borderlands 1 veteran with over 200 hours (stopped counting), I expected a little bit more. The humour has become more awkward rather than cynical as in the previous game. Seriously Gearbox, did you completely sell-out to appeal to kids? The lowest form of humour in the game is pandering internet memes like "got an arrow to the knee". That train has already departed, it's not funny any more if it ever was. I gave this game a 10 before finishing it, today I've finished it and came back to adjust my rating to a rock solid 7 only to see my previous spoiler free and completely positive comment to be deleted. Way to deal with customers. I don't care if this was done on the action of 2K or Gearbox, I'm done. If you enjoy item hoarding games with a mediocre coop go buy it. If you want a quality single-player rather get Fallout if you want multiplayer get Left 4 Dead 2. I don't care about random stats items anymore. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A very fun, a very entertaining story. It has perfect mix of comedic and serious game-play. The weapon system is simple, which works out well since there are so many weapons that you can obtain. The only reason that i give this a 9, is that the game is less fun in single player than in multiplayer. My recommendation, call your friends, and get playing. Expand

Borderlands 1 was a really well done game it had a ton of fresh new concepts that actually worked out really well. From the guns, the gun combat the character progression the wide open areas and the replay-ability. Not to mention the co-op play although I have always been more of a solo artist sense I have no reliable friends to play with that wouldn't ninja everything purple and up. However it had many flaws much of the original content as far as landscape went was very monotone and felt uninteresting especially after multiple play through I found myself hating some areas very quickly but craving others. In Borderlands 2 this all changes every area is new and interesting and feels like they all have more of a story to tell and more of a history behind them like how they got to that point which in a way makes me thankful some of the original BL1 was someone bleak and basic because that simply was the history of Pandora. On top of that the story line is actually very interesting and has consistent humor all the way through. The guns have also been improved in the aspect that there are now significantly more unique possibilities Another big on is the side quests which in borderlands 1 were simply a means to level and get some more loot but now they are actually quite interesting and all tell stories of their own that help to build up the characters in the game.
In short I am extremely impressed and have not enjoyed a game this much in a very long time.

You can tell they took some time with the PC version as it works like a dream. Loads fast, plays smooth and feels right. I recommend anyone get this. Complaints: Server Side Loot in Co-Op: I recommend not playing with randoms. With everyone seeing the same loot it simply becomes a race to who can get the best loot. Playing with friends helps minimize this, but it can still be an issue making sure everyone is getting good stuff. Hopefully in a future Borderlands they will move to client side loot. Money System: By rank 18 I had purchased all the Eridium upgrades off the black Market. Now I have a ton of Eridium and nothing to spend it on. The only real use for money is to farm in the slot machines. I hope in some DLC they add some creative uses for money (maybe build your own gun shops or gun modification kiosks or something...)

it just seems really similar to the original with more humor.

It’s addicting, full of creative gags and amazing battles (especially in co-op mode) and it keeps dangling that loot-carrot in front of your face. Add that crazy humor on top and you have a synonymous for the world ‘entertainment’. [November 2012]

If you're looking for something with a ponderous story full of morality and contemplation – one best savored alone – then you'll need to look elsewhere. Borderlands 2 delivers tons of lighthearted, occasionally juvenile fun with immense replayability, and is best approached with a few buddies in tow. It doesn't revolutionize the concept pioneered by its forebear, but it refines it to a razor-sharp edge and offers some of the most fun you can have in a cooperative action RPG this side of Diablo II. And if nothing else, it's got lots of Claptrap.

The moment at which my endearingly annoying robot companion Claptrap fashioned himself a Mohawk out of some animal fur I collected he earned a spot on my all-time favorite robot list.
