One thing the developers had "dead on" is the games entire atmosphere.
-
It isn't quite as great as fans of the series would like, but it still should be given a shot. It's also worth playing to those lonely for another vampire game or wanting a change of pace from all the first-person shooters.
-
The battle system is fairly easy to learn and the puzzles aren't mind-blowing, but all in all, the game is very entertaining and that's what gaming is supposed to be about.
-
The sluggish, redundant, and infamously formulaic combat makes Blood Omen 2 a sloppy action outing, especially when contrasted by the recent brilliance of "Jedi Outcast." And what it fundamentally lacks in this department, it fails to make up for in adventuring.

PC GamerIf you're looking for nothing more than a vampiric tale of killing and consuming folks, Blood Omen 2 should be right up your dark, haunted alley. [July 2002, p.67]
-
Computer Gaming WorldSnazzy graphics, professional voice acting, and captivating gameplay combine to create what is easily the highpoint of the series. [July 2002, p.78]
-
It's a pity the game is so linear, because the game does look great, atmospherically set in the style of the Thief series, and the character is gloriously evil, thoroughly powerful and malefic.
-
Computer Games MagazineAfter two moderately interesting "Soul Reaver" sequels, the "Legacy of Kain" series ahs finally been stripped of any worthwhile gameplay, storyline, or atmosphere, leaving only a classic example of a dull, unimaginative, soulless game design... Please someone put a stake in the series, because it's done. [Sept 2002, p.80]
