With silly, zany, over-the-top gore and, well, blood abundant, this classic PC FPS takes the formula of Doom and sets it in an ersatz Evil Dead world with one-liners and elements clearly inspired by zombie horror slasher flicks. Blood is not groundbreaking or technically amazing, but it is enormous fun.

A brilliant game that still holds up even in 2008. Hilarious, violent, gory, and damn fun. Really, a game that hits all the old-school FPS highs. It's as fast and furious as you want it, and you'll keep coming back for more.

The best Build engine game by far. Kicks Duke Nukem's ass. I'd go as far as to say this is Monolith's best game until F.E.A.R. 8 years later. If you like FPS games at all this is an absolute must. RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE, MONOLITH.

This game was awesome, it's not nostalgia, the game was real cool, the train level was just pure awesome, a jewel of the past, back when developers knew how to make games.

An A+ game of B-movie horror. If you like your FPS bloody and funny, replaying it today, it still manages to get a chuckle or two out of me. Wicked sense of humour and hours of mindless killing, this is a great game for those rainy days.

This game is also extremely fluid, graphically, which was huge back then and is definitely appealing now. List of qualities goes on...ONLY let down: the difficulty of the game. The hardest FPS I've ever played. That's why I rate it 9 and not 10. Expand

I think what's genuinely incredibly about Blood is how **** up it kinda is? Like this is absolutely the most violent video game I have played. It actually makes me uncomfortable. Keeps you on your feet.
    I highly recommend playing Blood!

This is by far the best Build engine game made with impactful guns sounds, destructible environments, a likeable protagonist and the level of detail with different screams depending on what kind of damage being dealt to you and kind of damage you are dealing to enemies. the new Blood: Fresh Supply source port work like a dream and its only $14.50 AUD on steam so there's no reason not to get it

A timeless classic, a pearl for any lover of fps. Solid, addictive gameplay, an amazing amount of weapons and mechanics for a game of the era, very loud setting, religious horror splatter, to try absolutely!

The first time I played Blood was when it was released back in 1997. It was one of the first video games that gave me the creeps and being a horror fan kid, I loved every minute of the first iconic mission, yet I did not progress much further due to my inexperience in shooters. Blood is a member of the holy trinity of Build engine games along with Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior (I personally would add Redneck Rampage to that list). Due to its scary nature, it was a bit less popular than Duke Nukem 3D, yet the game always had a cult following, despite the harm its sequel Blood II: The Chosen may have caused.

24 years have passed. I have beaten countless shooters from retro classics (Doom, Duke Nukem 3D) to classics in transition period (No One Lives Forever, Half-Life), to modern ones. I usually love Nightdive Studio’s work with remasters and I simply could not resist to replay the game as “Blood: Fresh Supply”.

Oh boy… It holds up so well. It plays like Duke Nukem 3D, where you find some keys, kill enemies and finally press a button to finish the mission. It separates itself from FPSs from the same era with its level design, soundtrack and unique weapons. You will not find annoying maze-like levels where you get lost. You will have extremely memorable weapons in your arsenal from flare gun and dynamite to voodoo doll. Any kind of incendiary damage will be your most effective tool here as you watch even the strongest enemies burn, screaming in agony. Enemies have good variety and none of them fell out of place, cultists being my favorite. Most importantly though, this game has sick soundtrack, which I had totally erased from my memory. It is the sort of music that you would find on a cassette tape that belongs to a satanic cult leader.

I could not play anything else until I finished the game and all expansions including Cryptic Passage and Plasma Pak. It was a blast. I did not experience and compatibility issues thanks to the remaster and I certainly recommend picking it up. It’s definitely one of the best fps games ever made and one that you should not miss if you are into retro FPS classics.

Pros.: - Level design is insanely good. - Blood. So much blood! - Story. - Slow progressing. It is better delivered than in Shadow Warrior (which is also good). - Bizarre weapons. - Multiple add-ons. - Combination of hard levels and simple levels. Can speed run. Cons.: - Some levels are too extreme. You need to

The best of the holy trinity, hallowed be it´s name! Everything about this game is a masterpiece, the atmosphere, the art direction, the action, the gunplay, absolutely everything! This game is also hard as nails but it´s so fun when you get the hang of it, if you for some reason never played Blood, PLAY IT

1997 was an interesting year. 3D games were becoming mainstream but the 2.5D still looked better than 3D. The gameplay is excellent, story was acceptable, the enemies were interesting, the weapons are great to play with it. The sound is good. I dont really have anything bad to say about it, only that the graphics are outdated and it feels like playing a "game" if you know what i mean.

  1. If Monolith could have tied the level design and action more closely to a real storyline, worked to smooth the engine a little, and created a few new types of monsters, Blood might have risen another notch or two up the 3D food chain. As it stands, the game is a little too uneven to be successful.
  2. By far the most extraordinary feature of Blood has to be its sound effects. They are nothing short of incredible. 'Manamax and spear books,' the cultists shriek, alongside something not dissimilar to the word 'bollocks'. The zombies endlessly crow about 'Brainssssss'. Set a fanatic on fire and he screams like a girl: 'It burns! Oh god it burns,' before melting into a heap of steaming entrails accompanied by the appropriate popping and sizzling effects.
  3. Blood is everything "Quake" should have been. It offers unparalleled single player gameplay, dozens of beautiful visual effects, tons of new weapons, and killer multiplay. I've had more fun playing Blood in the past day than I have playing any other game in the past year.
