    The good:

The forest looks really nice. Very realistic. None of the scares or monsters are cheesy. Overall they did a pretty decent job of sticking to the Lovecraft formula of "what you can't see will scare you far more than what you CAN see". And there are some things you technically CAN see, unlike the original movie where you never saw anything resembling a monster, but the brief glimpses you get are usually so brief or distorted that you can't really make out what you're seeing. Sadly that's about all that the game gets right.

    The bad:
My biggest gripe with the game is how easy it is to get stuck. There's a small little campsite that you will be absolutely sick of by the time you finish the game because no matter which direction you venture off, it will eventually lead you back to the campsite. And I get it, one of the things from the original movie was that they kept getting lost and seemed to be wandering in circles. So bravo to Bloober team for incorporating that into the game. The problem is they abused this mechanic far beyond it's welcome. Walkthroughs provide the answers to get out of these endless loops but that's immersion breaking.

Another thing I noticed was an absolute lack of sound. You'd think a forest would have crickets chirping, frogs ribbiting, the occasional hoot of an owl or caw of a bird, but nope. Just the sound of you breathing and walking and the sound of your dog Bullet barking, etc. along with a subtle, low pitched note that usually runs in the background for atmosphere. Perhaps this is intentional, maybe the evil presence in the forest drives birds and insects away, but that's never mentioned in the movie.

There are some inconsistencies within the story as well, for example the missing boy is initially reported to be wearing a Baltimore Crows cap, then later it's mentioned as a Baltimore Ravens cap, then back to Baltimore Crows. The lack of attention to detail is disappointing. Perhaps they initially started to use Baltimore Ravens and ran into trademark issues with the NFL and forgot to change it. Who knows?

I experienced none of the frame rate or technical issues mentioned by many, I'm running a Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB RAM, 1070ti machine at 1080p. I was annoyed however by the lack of option to re-bind controls. You're stuck with the game's default keyboard controls, which made me switch to using a controller instead.

I did encounter one really annoying bug however. This will be spoiler free, but there's a section where you have to slow walk for what feels like about 10 minutes. You can choose to skip the slow walk at the expense of possibly altering the story in a bad way, so I chose to slog through it. At the end of that 10 minutes a small cut scene played and then control was given back to me. Except I couldn't move. I had to restart the game, and it had not auto saved, so I got to do the entire 10 minute slow walk again.

Lastly, I felt like they took the story/lore in a direction quite a bit different from the movie. I can't say much more than that without spoilers, but The Blair Witch Project is my favorite horror movie of all time so I was disappointed to see the direction they went with it toward the end.

All in all it's not a horrible game, and certainly worth playing on a deep sale, just temper your expectations some.

The game itself is not the worst, it plays well despite lot of people saying it runs poorly. I myself found it running just fine without any noticeable issues. the environment and graphics overall look decent and there are some smaller elements that really shine as a unique feature like the cellphone that includes games on it and i find this to be clever and unique element.

The big problem of this game is its linear rather mundane story telling. All you really do is follow a dog around as it shows you the right path while solving simple puzzles and occasionally shining a light at potential danger to ward it off and that is really all it is. The game lacks any real potential of horror.

for 29,99$ the game is more or less a fine addition for any horror fan, but i would probably grab it on a sale as it really does not offer anything new to the table of horror genres.

However, some of the gameplay mechanics are annoying, the story overall does not come together as a satisfying piece of psychological horror, and 'soldier battling his demons (his ptsd)' is as basic as you can get anyway. When I got to the location where the ending took place, my mind started to race with possibilities for the conclusion (layers on layers of meaning, allegories on allegories, repressed childhood memories running parallel with the present... etc). Instead the ending lands with a dull thud and goes on for soooooo impossbly effin long you begin to question whether it's even worth it to finish the damn thing. Not helping the situation is that other than a few neat (if cheap) tricks, there isn't much else up Blair Witch's sleeve by then. Honestly it's closer to Book of Shadows, than anything else. I have a soft spot for that sequel, so don't take it the wrong way. It's just that wasn't what I was hoping for.

It's okay. A bit boring is all.

Summary: It's 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods.

What I like about the game is how well the atmosphere is done. The visuals are amazing, and graphic wise, it's a strong suit. And you're companion Bullet is a nice addition to ease your anxiety in stressful situations. Story wise, it's great, investigating a missing 9 year old with tapes that are clues to his disappearance is very unique gameplay as well. Especially with the neat element of being able to MANIPULATE TIME with them, almost like the crime reconstructions in the batman games. When you encounter your first monster later, it can get really intense in the best way possible. With all of that come the negatives. Those being it is really, REALLY easy to get lost for one. And that is really frustrating! Sometimes you go in a loop on purpose for the story. But other times, immersion can be broken by one little invisible barrier. And it doesn't help when Bullet can't tell you the proper way to go when you tell him to 'seek'. Fighting the monsters can also get repetitive considering throughout about 2/3 of this 6 hour or less game, it's the same basic mechanic. They finally switch things up later, but it's in like the last half hour, which in of itself, DRAGS! It's almost like in the finale, it doesn't know when to end, and it's tedious and boring. Which is a shame, considering for the most part, the scare factor was on point. Not to forget about characters, you really don't care about Jess (Ellis' ex-wife). Sheriff Lanninf, cool. Bullet, awesome. Carver, good antagonist. Jess, pointless and doesn't add to the story at all other than just to be another tragic figure to add to the main character's life.

While certainly not flawless, and the $30 original asking price is a bit much (I paid about $9 for it on sale), it is a good attempt for a Blair Witch game, and a solid attempt at a horror game in general.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's an okay game from the studio who developed Layers of Fear, games, which I love. It has a simple, but effective story, but it's quite linear. It's literally a "get from point A to point B" game, but it's not a massive deal breaker.

It has a sort of combat, which I like to describe as kind of Alan Wake without the gun. it's obvious they put it in the game for a change of pace, but would have been good if it was expanded a little.

    SPOILER ALERT:

The part with injured Bullet dragged on for ages. It was like the devs wanted you to leave the dog behind for the bad ending. I wandered that looping scene for literally 15 minutes before the game took over and Ellis passed out.

The last chapter in the house dragged on for way too long too. Those two points were really the only downsides for me.

Interesting game, but if you don't like games such as Outlast, Layers of Fear, etc, then avoid. if you do, at least check it out. it's a game with multiple endings, but going through the game once was enough for me.

    - in some places a good and appropriate sound accompaniment
    - plot twists and his general message - but it's for me personally, because the developers of the game took the ideas that he himself had long ago laid down for his game.
    - multiple endings
    - a couple of screamers and then only at the end of the game.
    Minus the game:
    - wild linearity
    - The search team is almost completely useless - 98% of the time the dog finds nothing.
    - scripted scene
    - the general atmosphere isn't intimidating compared to "Layers Of Fear."
    - too long scenes that are more boring and spoil the atmosphere of madness and eerie.
    - having multiple endings and hiding the hint of getting them (from the word at all), I had to find out on YouTube.

The first half of the game is a gem [although with no replayability [more on that later]], with high tensions and fear of the unknown pervading you as you explore the woodland.

The second half, lacking significatly to the first, throwing away tension for consecutively cheap jumpscares. And like a sneeze that won't go away, they just keep coming and coming and coming.

The main antagonist could have been more of a threat throughout and they could have explored some more insidious and uncomfortable feelings with the player by doing this, however they dont explore that side of the antagonist. As a result they never felt like an actual threat.

I encountered a few glitches, predominantly a certain entity getting stuck inside a house and being forced to despawn, but nothing game breaking.

As a whole on the story I found it good but only because the VA was exceptional for the protag. There were so many themes crammed in at random intervals that it became hard to track what was going on or why. if it wasnt for my useless ability to remember an off-handed comments from conversations and quote lines to remind myself I'd have wondered what was going on and been completely lost.

Replayability [as previously mentioned] was lacking as there were two outcomes ultimately and there appeared to be very little nuance to the player agency throughout the game, regardless of what you may have tried.

As for collectables there is an overabundance and I have to wonder - why? You can pick up knick knacks as you continue your investigation and I dont believe they served a purpose at all. On top of the dog tags and pictures you have to collect in this densely pact forest it's a little concerning how much they expect you to be able to pick out.

This is a: Complete once for fun and second for 100% kind of deal, where the second run through is supported by a walkthrough and painstakingly heading to every single location, nook and cranny.
This is hurt even more so by the lacking player reward for agency at the end-game as it means that you'd have to play [what took me first run through] 5 hours of content to beat, just to make an alternative choice.

    To conclude;
It's a good game with flaws and imperfections that weigh it down more than it helps. The visuals, and especially the sound design are stellar and really lend to inviting immersion. However, this is marred by clunky mechanics such alternating enemy tactics throughout the course of the game without disclosing that to the player. Excessive themes and micro narratives that derail the meta one.

Having said that i still enjoyed myself, i understand the flaws and still had a good time.
It achieves what your average horror game is trying to very effectively early on, but loses it's grip on that magic halfway through and stumbles over itself in the second half.

We were coming to forest and we join the police search. Protagonist (Ellis) want help to finding young boy, who went missing in this forest. And that's all, I don't want spoiler game for you. I rate the plot for 8/10 because game have unusual storyline, but in the end we get several unfinished threads. Gameplay I rate for 5/10, because I got bugs, like watching on camera caused crash game, generally whole camera are bugged. Optimize that like enemy are very weak, and moment when I was going on path and the game doing loop. The end of the game gets monotonous. The game tells us that we have a influence on story and that dog alive, but for me they have done very wrong with this. There is no obvious choices, and generally we don't have any chances for good ending (according to the creators, a good ending). Summary Blair Witch is a strong game with story, but gameplay spoils immersion. I'm happy I played in that game.

Sorry if you toiled with read this. I'm learning English and I write recent for learning. Thank You!

I can't say the story is bad. The ending shouldn't have been that long. I expect the most to interact with the environment from a single-player horror game. Blair witch fell short in this. It's called a horror game, most of it is not scary, it just suffocates you with its atmosphere.

Aside from everything, the main character's fighting with them because of what he lived over time, not giving up and they were able to transfer what was going on in their head to the game, but they took it too long.
I don't think they can show much of the strengthening of his bond with his dog, Bullet, and the pain he went through when he lost him.
I can say that I would have enjoyed this game more if the horror elements were reduced, the atmosphere and music were more intense, our most important goal was to find the child, and if it was a game based on research, not fear in general. I don't want to give the ending of the game as a spoiler, but it really didn't satisfy. When the game was over, I was happy that it was finally over. You know that the end of the game is approaching and you want it to end, but when it is not over, the torture it inflicts on you increases.

Definitely a good horror game. The horror elements were enough. It has a different gameplay and story.

The game adaptation of the 20-year-old “found footage” phenomenon could have turned out very badly. But thanks to previous experiences of Bloober Team, the finished product is more than a pleasant surprise. The game has its issues, especially in graphic design or in the puzzle section, but the result is excellent. [Issue#298]

More a psychological thriller than pure horror game until the final stretch, Blair Witch won’t scare you so much as drive you barking mad (in both good ways and bad).

Even though the prologue is unexciting and finale drags on a little too long, Blair Witch’s atmosphere usually hits the right notes. [Issue#241, p.38]
