    I had given Black Desert a pretty low score a few years ago, but Pearl Abyss honestly deserves a lot of credit for the work they have done on this game in recent years. PA has added an enormous amount of content in 2023 alone and the game feels much more fleshed-out, the world feels truly vast, and there are so many things to do regardless of your playstyle. If you love PvP, the PvP isI had given Black Desert a pretty low score a few years ago, but Pearl Abyss honestly deserves a lot of credit for the work they have done on this game in recent years. PA has added an enormous amount of content in 2023 alone and the game feels much more fleshed-out, the world feels truly vast, and there are so many things to do regardless of your playstyle. If you love PvP, the PvP is incredibly deep, complex, and satisfying. If you love professions (called "life skills"), the professions are incredibly deep, complex, and satisfying. If you just love exploration, the world feels so much bigger, and frankly well-rendered, than any open world game I've ever played. Exploration has always been my personal favorite part of the MMO experience and BDO has some breathtaking environments to discover.

    BDO doesn't get a perfect score from me because there are still some annoying, gambly mechanics in the gear upgrade system, but even that doesn't feel so burdensome to me anymore because PA has added other ways to get decent gear.

    Overall, it's super cheap so just give it a go and if you don't like it that much, well, you didn't pay $90 for it.    … Expand

    This game has come a long way, and the p2w stigma is really not true anymore, outside of a remote repair/buff access campsite. The mob density is really engaging and i enjoy blasting through big groups of enemies.

    The main complaint I have is it's hard to know what's going on, what to do, etc. There are tons and tons of different questlines and your log will quickly fill.     I have probably put about 5,000 hours into BDO. The problem is that about 4,000 of those hours were me leaving my computer on overnight and while I was at work, fishing or doing some other AFK activity. The combat is either a grind when you are trying to get .01% exp per hour at higher levels or it is getting one-shotted by a witch in pvp. There is amazing value in this game if you don'tI have probably put about 5,000 hours into BDO.     Unfortunately, the planned updates completely ruin the PvP system in the game. The goal of the game is character development, but sieges with restricted parameters and planned patches completely destroy the fragile meaning that was still present in this game. The game will turn into Genshin Impact and lose half of its player base within six months. It's very unfortunate.

    There is absolutely no PvP content development in the game. The developers think only about the PvE community. At the beginning of the OBT the developers promised active development of PVP and many different mechanics, but in the end they changed almost nothing and in the future they want to worsen the PVP system even more.     The upcoming bdo update will kill pvp, please spread this information to the game developers in order to prevent the departure of many thousands of big gear players, we spent hours of our precious time in order to participate in massive battles in the open world, do not take pvp content from us

    Recent changes made it like Genshin Impact carebears game out of best looking pvp openworld mmorpg. Your gear and progress is meaningless. Just save your time, pick something that respects your dedication.

    Please do not touch the already dead pvp system. Guild wars and PvP in open world were the only ways to have PvP experience and have some fun in this dying game. And you really want to take the last thing we have left?

    Imagine an MMORPG whose goal is to improve the strength of equipment and characters, but in which most pvp activities have a huge limits on the level of equipment, and those that do not have are consistently killed by developers. That's what bdo is at the moment.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing this game for more than 10 thousand hours and the developers decided to cut off the last influx of content for the players. Murder war system. Opens the possibility for bad players to interfere with your game for free and now you can't do anything about it. The game that positioned itself as an open world pvp has now turned into pve not just pve and the developer is completely not interested in what old players need, they are completely immersed in work for content for beginners and only for them. As you move into the high class of players your experience just gets worse and worse. What a pity that a greedy developer kills his creation… Expand

    We should thank the developers for gradually removing PvP content from the game over the course of several years and turning it into a PvE grind simulator... Also, the absence of any actions of developers in relation to DDoS attacks, and the simple removal of this content for some regions.

    In pursuit of new players, the PA company simply spits on the wishes of the players who have given years of their lives to this game. Soon (the next patch) pvp in the open world will be practically destroyed, pvp potential in sieges will be limited. Players no longer need to develop, and the efforts of players who have been playing for 5-7 years are simply thrown into the trash.

    Overall, Black Desert Online is a typical MMO in every single way. While I disagree with their claim that it’s the “next generation” of MMOs, I did find the character creation to be the most robust of any MMO out there. Unfortunately, the character customization is the game’s biggest highlight, and many of the other elements of Black Desert Online can be found in many other MMOs.

    Black Desert Online comes to the table with an intricate character sculpting tool, gorgeous graphical presentation, and a nuanced, exciting combat system overlying a less immediately apparent, but very unique, sandbox-style resource management simulation. Those looking for a rich narrative, complex or groundbreaking PvE questing, or highly unique monster design may be disappointed, but those seeking a mechanically rich, visually striking MMO will find themselves at home.
