When it comes to atmosphere, pioneering environmental storytelling, gameplay, narrative, and pushing the medium into new heights, Bioshock does it all. Very few flaws such as the mediocre hacking mechanic and a few less than excellently implemented weapons, keep it from being a masterpiece. But it is sure damn good.

In a few words, this game is a masterpiece from the last decades of gaming. A gem often overlooked and compared to recent titles because of obvious inspirations, but with all credit it deserves.

Bioshock, ofter considered by critics as a spiritual successor to the System Shock series - mainly because names involved in the development of the former like Ken Levine were also involved in the production of Bioshock - carry many characteristics from SS: from the storytelling of the world through audiologs, to the FPS gameplay mescled with RPG mechanics (what I would like to emphasize since this blend was not common in mass success titles neither when SS or Bioshock was released).

I wouldnt go as far as to say this game is an Immersive Sim like Deux Ex games; The Thief series; or even the recent Prey(2017) and Dishonored titles. This is not negative in any means, I would just like to make clear that this game is pretty linear, it usually rewards exploration with more guns upgrades, and ADAM which is an compound that makes your character stronger, just like exp in RPG games; altought the game gives you multiple "optional" paths in your playthrough it doesnt gives you the diversity and multiple approaches to progess through the main story like Immersive Sims do.

The progression system in the game, with ADAM and weapon upgrade stations (simmilar to upgrade stations in SS2) places some RPG elements in the game, which is obviously a linear shooter. This aspect of the game is revolutionary, because as we players know, thats a pretty common trope in recent games: from action adventure games like the Assassin's Creed series, and the recent loot&shoot titles like Destiny and Borderlands to even racing games, developers know now that the aspect of progression in a player controlled way that before Bioshock was almost exclusive to RPGs is amazing for fun factor, sense of accomplishment and liberty for the players.

Besides the revolutionary accessibility of RPG elements that became normal in other types of games later, the storytelling and worldbuilding in Bioshock is amazing. You really feel immersed in a wrecked city deep in the Atlantic ocean. Not only the maps are beautifully crafted but the whole atmosphere feel's so real and vivid that often people considers the game as an survival horror title even though that feeling comes just from immersion of beign placed in a abandoned city full of psychopaths and drug addicts chasing you, besides one or other jumpscare, the game was marketed as a traditional singleplayer shooter and it basically is from beginning to end.

Besides the way we SEE and FEEL rapture through the visuals; the audiologs and characters made the world more dense and packed with content, you actually go after audio cues and hidden places just to get to know more about the world you're stuck while playing. You can also notice that the game lacks a lot of cutscenes and even the 3 or 4 it has, are pretty short, which serves as an example to even recent titles that shove story in the player's face despite the fact that most of the time we dont care anyway because of lack of originality.

Overrall this is an amazing and revolutionary gem to gaming in general, I cant consider it to be a perfect title because of few aspects like some stupid bossbattles shoved in the game, and horrible difficulty in general, where you can basically pass all the game with no struggle just dying, respawning and killing the now weaker enemy that killed you; you can disable that type of respawn tho, but the games was clearly not made to be played that way since if you try to do that, you will lose most of the experience designed by the developers, like fighting the stronger baddies that you'll prefer just to ignore without respawn capabilities.

Not perfect, but it comes so close to it that it´s both incledible and kind of infuriating. It´s an unforgettable experience, bold in a way that most games, couldn´t even dream of being. Amazing villain, the best intro and plot twist in gaming in my opinion, incredible setting. Yes, the ludonarrative is dissonant, hacking is bad and so is the twist villain, but still, amazing.

Firstly it's got that annoying little SecuROM issue which makes it a bitch to uninstall... The graphics look awesome when cranked up full but I can only play on slightly higher than medium :( which means they look nothing special. A more general graphical problem is the stage are just too dark, I know it's under the sea and all but the contrast could be upped a bit. I was so happy to get to Arcadia with all it's greenery and light... and then it all died and went yellow-brown :( Following from the graphics the atmosphere was really good but the sudden bursts of music were irritating and tended to occur whilst Atlas was talking to me. Also the game is very linear which detracts from the atmosphere somewhat... a just charge attitude works fine. My main gripe is with the combat, I found it very easy and very samey (I'm playing on hard). Even with the inclusion of the re-spawn thingys I've rarely died and always seem to have enough ammo - the first Big Daddys are the only difficult battles I've had so far. The AI doesn't make the combat any better as the splicers either run straight at you or run away - chasing down fleeing splices gets old quite fast. It would be nice if they went to find reinforcement or setup ambushes or just something else. Then there's the wrench. I found the majority of combat to be a back and forwards close range dance whilst trying to hit my victim in the head with it (after setting them on fire). And there aren't really that many enemies... I think I've counted five splices and two types of big daddys I'm hoping I'll come across more but I suspect not... they just seem to be getting more health. Lastly there's the annoying hacking sub-game. It's fun the first few times but I must have hacked on the order of hundreds of things... it's getting tiresome. Expand

This game is good but it is one of the most overated games of recent times. It suffers from game mechanics which break the suspension of disbelief regulary. Looks beautiful but the awe wears thin pretty quick, ultimately suffers from the Doom3 - everything looks plastic syndrome. NOT better than Stalker, Crysis or the HL2 series.

The story line is unique and compelling and the game play is fun. If offers just enough handholding to get those new [or renewed] to FPS games up to speed. I am really having fun with this game.

The game is intense and the weapons are not the same old shot gun, 9mm and rocket llaucher. Even though the plasmids are reminesent of the Jedi Knight games, the do make the fighting much more entertaining. However the environment and interactiveness of the game is nothing special at all. Only the Big Daddies and Little Sisters execute some modicrum of intelligence, and it's definitley not dynamic. Everything else is so heavily scripted any season gamer will recognize when and where to use certain skills for maximum benefit. I would have liked it to be a little more transparent. And there is very little environment interaction outside of burning oil, or electrifying water. Big Daddies are pushovers on anything but Hard mode. I was quite let down by how easy they were to put down, esp as you grow more nad more powerful. The hardest ones are the first three you encounter...if you choose to kill them then. Of course you can come back later and wipe hte floor without even being touched about mid-way through the game. Don't even ask about near the end of the game....you're a steam roller then. Aside from those qualms, it's a great game. But I can't give it more than an 8.0 -- it's mroe style less substance. Honestly, the problem was with plot points. The endings were definitely rushed, and it disappointed me that choices I made literally in the first 3 hours of the game so directly influenced the ending. I guess I fell victim to expecting too much of the narrative, and I tried to play the middle in terms of morality. I didn't want to pick one path over another, since I figured it was an game that was deeper than it turned out to be in the end. That was a mistake, as trying to play the middle chose my ending for me. Even though the game touts itself as being morally gray, it essentially makes it black and white in the end. Make one decision, just one, that it deems morally reprehensible and you get a the 'bad guy' ending. You literally have to be a saint the entire game to get the 'good guy' ending. That is extremely disappointing. The ending completely ruined the game overall for me. Up until literally the last 15 minutes of the game I would have rated this easily 90+. After finishing it...not so much. Oh well, I still have some hope for the Half Life story. Hopefully it will resolve itself in a satisfactory manner (Although I'm a pessimist and I doubt they will pull it off I can hope they will actually follow through). All that being said, it's a fun game that I recommend. I just don't think it warrants the scores of 90+ it is getting. Maybe, just maybe, if I am in a good mood, it gets a 90. After playing through the whole thing I say it is definitely high 80's, but not high 90's. A good spiritual successor to System Shock, and I am glad a game like this is being made and I don't regret spending my money on it, but definitely not better overall than System Shock 2. SS2 was much, much, MUCH better in terms of story, although Bioshock probably has SS2 beat in terms of overall gameplay. I would personally prefer story over gameplay, but meh. The story is decent, but is mostly told via a bunch of audio tapes, recorded and left lying about for no good reason. The lack of any grey area in the moral choices posed to the player is genuinely frustrating to anyone whose morals aren't either diabolical or saintly - That'd be most human beings. Again, a very good game, worth playing, but presently being overhyped by people who have either never played Deus Ex and/or System Shock 2, or love those games SO much they're going to give anything like them a perfect score. This means that especially nearing the end of the game you have to slug it out with the enemies for quite a while before 1 drops. Even a headshot with the crossbow won't take down all the slicers.

To kill with plasmids is usually a 2 part move. Most plasmids are there to disable your opponent so you can more easily kill them with your weapons. For plasmids like incinerate that are designed for damage you might need to waste your entire mana bar just to drop 1 foe.

Also many people as well as myself suffer a crashing bug that shows up while in the menus that open during hacking and when getting a new plasmid or tonic.

I still think the game is worth buying, but it was not quite as amazing as advertised.

Bioshock stretches the unreal engine to its limit. That being said, it stretches quite nicely. The game delivers superior art design, sound, story, acting, scope, and pretty much everything it attempts to do (excluding basic combat). Those who enjoyed Doom3, but wished for a deeper feeling of imersion, Bioshock is for you.

This experience is over pretty quickly for a 50 buck game. BS gets repetitive very quickly and unless I'm missing something there is little point in replaying the game. On the good side; no bugs, bad side; too many ways to kill stupid enemies. The endgame punch up is obvious and unsatisfying yet the actual ending is better than most. All in all - rather disappointing.

Largely while Bioshock excels in the area of level design, atmosphere and story, it doesn't really do much to step away from the linear trend of FPS games and its RPG additions don't really do anything so outstanding that it truly takes the game to another level. It is, by and large, a magnum opus of level design, art and nostalgia and must be appreciated for that, but in the area of game design, it hasn't really taken any new strides or tried any new concepts, so it falls short of a pure 10 score in that regard. Great game, worth the money simply for the beautifully grungy design work, but beyond that, nothing really new here. Expand

Bioshock has some of the most excellent weapons FPS's have to offer, an exciting plot, and beautiful vistas, but the problem is with repetitive level design. After a while, you really needed a change of scenery, and more enemies.

This game was really good. Fun features, quite a bit of innovation as far as storyline goes. It was really creepy in ways I never thought it would be. Only complaints are the respawn system, and the fact that the game felt too easy on a whole, and the whole hacking system was kind of funny/too easy, and finally that some of the Plasmids and Gene Tonics were useless. I also didn't like some of the complicated controls when handling and switching weapons and ammo types, which can get really annoying during fierce battles. Including the "vita chambers" in the game was a bad decision in my book, as it detracts from the tension you are supposed to feel from dying at any moment, however this is not a big problem as some of the users below were trying to describe, since you can avoid using them and load from last saved place once you are dead. On the other hand, the game has great graphics working for it, although nothing absolutely stunning. You should however have a high-end GPU to see the game at its best. The sound is very well done, especially the recorded tapes which you get to listen to every now and then. Some of the plasmids and tonics are very original and creative. I like the concept of managing your plasmids through Gene Banks, as it adds a strategy dimension to the game, as well as some complexity, which might not appeal to some gamers. The bottom line is: does this game deserve 96 average score? I don't think so. However, it is a very good FPS with some very original ideas and pretty graphics. You will enjoy it very much as long as you are not the type of gamers who search for plot flaws and easily get annoyed by simple gameplay issues. Expand

Everyone that played it on a console thinks its the best thing ever, though you'll be thoroughly unimpressed if you've played pc games for years (especially System Shock 2 since this is just a dumbed down version that was made way too easy).

The game is very well done with much potential. And 2K did A great job putting it to the max of it's potential. The only fact that made me give it an 8 is that feels the same as any other shooter. It doesn't feel different. And way too easy. There are no covers, no sniper rifles. All you do just go straight to shoot bullets. There are a couple of powers (Plasmids) that you can use, but only 2~3 of them are actually useful. Comparing to system shock 2 which has a very solid RPG mechanics with minor shooter gameplay, this one feels a little bit cheap. It starts off relatively slow and mediocre, but after first few areas the experience becomes rich as you acquire a lot of weapons and special powers. BioShock definitely has some distinct strengths and a handful of weaknesses too. The strengths. It has a very unique graphics style, with bright colours, which give life to the characters. As mentioned already, there are a lot of cool and different special powers, buffs, and types of ammo which add loads of variation to combat, hence keeping it fun and fresh for the most part. The hacking mini-game is also immensely fun. This is perhaps the best hacking mini-game I have ever had to play, because I almost never got bored of it. The game also has an interesting backstory with some memorable characters and quotes. Heck, everything in the game has personality, even the vending machines. However, despite the good story, the storytelling itself is a bit average, and this brings me to the weaknesses. The reason I say the storytelling is average is because most of the story you uncover by listening to various audio tapes instead of experiencing the story as you go along. Another minor weakness is that I felt the health and EVE bars were a bit too small (even with upgrades). Whenever I fought 2 or more enemies, or one strong enemy, I literally had to keep pressing the medkit button to keep healing myself repeatedly, which takes away from the fun of combat. Likewise for the EVE bar as well. After a couple of shots of your special powers, your character had to inject himself with more EVE. And the last weakness I'll mention is that the level design in certain areas was kind of subpar. The colours and the environments are nice, but it's the structure itself that I have an issue with. Like some areas looked too repetitive whichever way you went (Arcadia anyone?) and also some other areas were a bit too big and confusing (Fort Frolic anyone?). And the map wasn't particularly too helpful when navigating through multiple floors. So, despite the few weaknesses the game has, I think its strengths by far outweigh them, because it generally manages to deliver the fun factor (although I find the average critic score to be a tad too high). Every time I have played through Bioshock I have taken something different from the story and it has since made me think differently to politics and society. To those who have played Bioshock I would highly recommend watching some interviews with Ayn Rand on Youtube. Although I certainly dont agree with the woman, she make some interesting thoughts and gives us something to think about after the game. I never found the game play to be as bad and many claim, although I did play it on a good PC and had the freedom a mouse. The story is also well integrated into the game play from looting your way through Rapture and becoming the parasite that Ryan claims. While playing I did find myself addicted to finding plasmids and further becoming apart of the drug addition themes of the fall of Rapture. The simple fact of Bioshocks story containing snippets of philosophy means that its miles ahead of the dumbass mediocre storylines that makes up most of FPS games in the industry. Atmosphere, sound, and setting are nothing short of brilliant. The art deco is also original for video games. The 3rd act of the game sags, unfortunately the story feels rushed and becomes uninteresting. The last boss was incredibly lame and the ending cinematic I felt was a joke. Its actually disappointing that 2K felt they needed to add that unneeded twist rather then simply depending on what was interesting to begin with. The Art, design, sound, philosophical elements and story integration, and RPG elements in the game play make Bioshock a game that is ahead of its time. The 3rd act of the game is the only set back to it becoming a true master piece. Bioshock is a gem of the 7th generation of videos games. Expand

The enemy exhibits some interesting behaviour (jumping into the water to get rid of fire, rushing to heal themselves, teleporting) but generally take you straight-on, although they do get tougher as the game progresses, there's not a great variety in combat. Weapons are great fun. The moral choices are relatively simplistic. Tonics are also a bit unbalanced in the sense that some are obviously more useful than the others but does add variety to the gameplay. Firstly, it's not just a first person shooter. There's a story in the background that tends to draw out frustration, fear, anxiety, moral choices from the shooter. The eerie music, sound work, amazing architecture, and of course, Atlas' narration throughout the game (not forgetting those audio clips you collect) help set up a very different and immersible world. Whereas the other FPS is simply hide, organize and shoot. Here we also have the independence of upgrading weapons, wasting sweet hours in exploring the area for enticing collectibles, toy around with enemies. And at the same time, get really scared and entertained whilst facing all the big/small obstacles. It's really engaging.

Secondly, I liked how the story advances based on our choices. This, of course, I don't want to spoil. So beware and make the right choices. The ending depends on it.

The game doesn't come without a few faults but I mostly blame it to how hyped it was. Listening to all the "Wow, best game ever" comments, I thought it will be different. So, when I saw the "collect these things for objective/go there for the next objective" I was slightly disappointed. Also, the ending, despite being amazing, felt lazy and too rushed and it sort of betrays the player as he/she has been immersed for so many hours. Of course, I'm to blame here as I expected something else.

Still, it doesn't overlook the fact at how it made me feel. I was amazed, shocked (the twists are really smart and brilliantly executed), scared and at one point, even had the urge to cry. But eventually, it left me with a smile, knowing that I've finally found a meaningful game to spend hours of time on, just so that I get in the Labyrinthine world of Rapture, a graveyard of brilliant artisans gone absolutely mad...

PS: Sander Cohen is my favorite character!

This game has hundreds and hundreds of pros, and only one or two cons. Let's start with the cons, since there are less. Although the enemy AI is fairly intelligent, they think as tactically as a genetic abomination can, and the artwork involved in them is astounding. On the other hand, you spend so much time fighting them it gets a bit repetitive which does make it kind of boring. TheThis game has hundreds and hundreds of pros, and only one or two cons. On the other hand, you spend so much time fighting them it gets a bit repetitive which does make it kind of boring. The scavenging for materials in this game is essential to it, but I found it a bit annoying because you need so much ammo for so many different guns plus eve and first aid kits, but still bearable. Then there are the pros. First of all, the sound is great. The sounds of Rapture are always swimming around your mind, accompanied with the crazy screams of splicers and big daddies and little sisters. The atmosphere is extremely creepy and enveloping, combined with the fact that just a few splicers can be such a huge threat makes you always want to watch your back and immerses you in the game. The plot is very intricate and although hard to follow, if you research the game a little and listen to the diaries you find yourself surrounded by the vast history of Rapture, even though the city didn't get very far. Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine are the perfect anatagonists for the story since they are both wicked and evil and make you want to hate them but also make you interested in them. The graphics are great, especially for a 2007 game, and the details in some of the splicers and the ruins of Rapture is insane. The game has two endings which are decided by how many little sisters you rescue/harvest and although this isn't that impressive, the choice of either rescuing or harvesting them pops up as many times as you fend off those big daddies and can prove a challenge to decide at times. Other times you're so enraged by all the times you had to jump out of the vita-lyzer and waste even more ammo on the big daddy you don't even care anymore. The weapons and plasmids are interesting, but it's obviously the plasmids that shine and make the game even more innovative. You have many plasmids to choose from, and eventually get so many you need to start strategically thinking which to put in your plasmid slots every time you pass a gene bank. There are many different times and places to use the plasmids and can provide an extremely strategic advantage or barely damage your adversary depending on how you use it. The weapons aren't bad either, and as you progress the game you get a few more pop up and can be upgraded using power to the people stations. Overall the game is fun, (although repetitive) and keeps you moving (although you sometimes just want a break.) Bioshock is a great game, and if you haven't bought it, still might be worth the buy. 8 hours spent in this game.. And honestly the game wasn't that great at all. The high scores attributed to this game is somewhat inaccurate imho. BioShock has one of the most interesting game worlds to date. The game manages to build and maintain a unique atmosphere which is the strongest point of the game. The story is ok with a memorable plot twist. It isn't a gaming masterpiece in my opinion because of the clumsy action mechanics and overall easiness of the game (even on hard).

So when you rate a game it doesn't show up in your rated list somehow. Let's try to add a review to see if this is going to work. 8 out of 10.

First of all I'll state that I'm not an FPS or generally shooter fan. The reason is because I value plot in games highly. So Bioshock came out and after way some time after its release, reading all the reviews on the internet and being hype by acquaintances of mine, I decided to buy it.

And it was not bad, not bad actually. I liked the gameplay, especially the Big Daddy boss fights that needed some preparation beforehand.
The plasmids were interesting, though some like security bullseye weren't useful enough to use.
The weapons were all cool to use except the throwers perhaps.

I also enjoyed searching for audio files which I found interesting and immersive.

Rapture's design was okay but just plain okay. I found disturbing the lack of character models, where characters important to the plot like tanenbaum or julie langford were depicted with splicers like models. I honestly thought that was lazy.
The AI was in good levels, the part where splicers run to healing stations when brought low on hp shows good programming.

However the final boss fight was outright laughable. Extremely easy with no special strategies whatsoever, it gave me less difficulty than the Big Daddy fights. Took me less than 2 minutes to finish

Last but not least and actually most important of all aspects, the plot. This game was praised vastly for its story but I wouldn't praise it that much. Plot was great as far as shooter games plot goes but it is not that impressive. I honestly didn't find the twist that breath-taking. When it happened I actually thought that was the start of the nice part. Alas my hopes were crushed, for the story after the twist switches back to generic. So to summarize I didn't find the plot bad, heck it was great at unraveling just not that great for all that praise. I guess shooter standards are just different...

First there was System Shock, then there was System Shock 2, and now there is Bioshock. I will start of by saying that Bioshock is like a watered-down version of System Shock 2. Now I could say more bad things about the game but I'll say some good things now. The game is just beautiful. It takes place in an underwater city, so yes it is going to be beautiful. There are enemies called Big Daddies. They look like over grow deep sea divers with a giant drill for a hand. The powers you get are pretty cool and you can shoot lighting out of your hands and when enemies are in the water you can shock the water and they will fry. I recommend the game but play System Shock 2 first. Expand

Good game but heavily overrated by the critics. At the start it really blew me away with crisp gameplay and wonderful atmosphere. After 1/3 it becomes too repetitve though with little new things going on. Still good game. Finished it in 14 hours.

A atmospheric experience that continues to stand the test of time as being a true gem in gaming. This was my first play-through on PC and in total my fifth from start to finish. Challenged myself this time with the hardest difficulty and the Big Daddys proved to be quite the hurdle.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything about BioShock is brilliant. The story, the atmosphere, the gameplay and the writing all shine here. The game was developed by Irrational Games' Ken Levine, who also made the System Shock 2. Mister Levine certainly knows how to make survival horror game in a twisted environment with a silent protagonist. Anyways, the game starts out in a plane with our main character, Jack Ryan. Then the plane crashes and we're thrown into one of the most sadistic and frightening worlds in video game history. And I love it. I feel like the best way to experience BioShock is by knowing next to nothing about it, like I did when I first played it last weekend. The gameplay is stellar, with a mix of standard first-person shooting and strange power ups called 'Plasmids'. They can let you shoot electricity out of your hand, and lift stuff up and throw things at people. Its pretty damn fun. The music is terrifyingly brilliant and gives me chills each time I hear it. It sets the environment incredibly well. The story, while very similar to System Shock 2's is still engaging and has a twist that actually surprised me. The writing is also brilliant and really holds the game up through the dull and mundane moments it has.

One of my few problems with the game is that it's pretty easy. I played the game on normal and only died twice. Another problem I have with the game is that the Big Daddy fights (Big Daddies are robots you have to kill to get to Little Sisters' who give you Adam which you use to get power ups) are too easy and get very boring after a while, particularly if you beat the game in one sitting like I did. Also, some parts of the game did get kind of repetitive as it progressed.

Those are probably my only flaws with the game. It truly is a magnificent experience that I enjoyed immensely. I definitely won't be forgetting about Rapture any time soon.

It truly has one of the most intriguing stories out there, with unpredictable twists and turns, and the acting is excellent. The characters are great and memorable, and their backstories are extremely interesting and in-depth. The story is by no means perfect, but it's nonetheless beautifully executed. The game's best aspect is Rapture, the underwater city that never fails to look stunning, both graphically and aesthetically. Exploring the city is always engaging and rewarding, since there's a lot of things to discover, whether it is interesting audio logs that enrich the overall story, or resources of great value etc.; all these elements make exploration worthwhile and the experience unforgettable. And the design of the city is outstanding and every chapter of the game has its own unique flare when it comes to the level design.
Now, let me point out some mixed aspects. The combat, while it is satisfying, it just becomes repetitive after a while. I do appreciate the range of weapons and plasmids, and how they can be upgraded, but even with that, it tends to feel samey somehow. The hacking especially gets tedious and annoying, since it also breaks the immersion. This repetitiveness is especially apparent after the plot twist, and those particular levels are not as engaging anymore. Also, that ending is underwhelming to say at least. So, all in all, this game is what I would consider as a flawed masterpiece. It has many amazing and impressive elements, like the creative level design, gritty atmosphere and clever writing, and it has its drawbacks being the gameplay, which is not bad (and it does have some great things for sure), but it gets sort of tedious. Its slight tediousness has nothing to do with the game's age, though, so keep that in mind, because this game has aged very well and it is definitely worth buying.

  1. A dark and astonishing masterpiece...I spend my career, and my gaming life, waiting for a moment when a game just astonishes me, when I can't believe what I'm seeing, what I'm doing. BioShock has five. [Sept 2007, p.66]

The hours spent playing this masterpiece were the perfect encapsulation of why videogaming is such a favourite waste of time for so many of us. Thrilling, terrifying, moving, confusing, amusing, compelling, and very very dark. BioShock isn't simply the sign of gaming realising its true cinematic potential, but one where a game straddles so many entertainment art forms so expertly that it's the best demonstration yet how flexible this medium can be. It's no longer just another shooter wrapped up in a pretty game engine, but a story that exists and unfolds inside the most convincing and elaborate and artistic game world ever conceived.

There is art here, despite what many would say isn't possible with games, from Roger Ebert to game designers like Hideo Kojima... BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.
