Bioshock Infinite is great. It's story, characters and world are all breathtakingly well done. But the gameplay, in my opinion isn't my cup of tea; a bit too shooty-bang-bang... Bioshock infinite suffers from the same weakness of the original and 2 as well-- the shooting does not seem right, you would think that they would focus on gun play first since you'll be doing that for 90% of the game. Bioshock: Infinite is not a bad game actually it is quite impressive how good it is; for example, it tells the story through character interaction pretty clever if you'd ask me. That being said, this does not feel like a Bioshock game... let me explain by comparing them:
The heavy-scripted sequences has some relevance to the game; like, when the handyman
shows up to wreck your face, come to think of it every enemy in the game are bullet sponges which creates the illusion of difficulty on the flip-side this is balanced by dying too quickly in turn wastes you money up until that point this is evident on harder difficulties; moreover, there is no satisfaction when finishing an enemy in this game (Just point and shoot until the enemy is defeated). Now let's turn our attention to the original Bioshock; in addition, big dadies are gone, hacking is gone, rapture is gone and the isolation that is brought along with it. It's not unusual for devs to change the setting and characters of a game, this why at the beginning of the review I mentioned how it does not feel like a Bioshock game, other than the name-- it could be any fps out right now(Most dont care about in-game character interaction or story, they just wanna shoot people). Every few rooms you are thrown into a scripted shooting gallery section that you are locked into; it is beyond me why Elizabeth cannot unlock the door in a fire fight (The natural reaction would be to leave as quickly as possible) but no... shooting gallery section's are what carries the game. It would be difficult to recommend on the basis of what I mentioned but if you are looking for a compelling story check it out or check out the Metro series; (True survival FPS with an awesome story).

We are tasked with rescuing a young woman from her literal castle in the sky, stealing her away from the zealot who has comfortably imprisoned her. SHE NATURALLY FALLS FOR US because, entitlement, really. I didn't get much further, because I can play other games with better equalized characterizations of humanity. this game made a very good impression when I first played it in 2013, story was a bit flawed and "quizes" way dumb, but overall I liked it a lot, the settings and dreamy graphics were perfect.

DLCs were way worse, especially the second one with stealth mechanics.

Here's hope for next installment of "xyz shock"

This game mostly consists of exploring lifeless rooms and frantically clicking on trash cans and file cabinets in order to loot their uninteresting contents. This, I imagine, is intended to paper over the fact that most of the levels have nothing interesting in them, and there is almost nothing to do, look at, or think about for a majority of the game. I have perhaps never played a game that felt so bereft of content. It felt at times as if opening cabinets was the primary game mechanic.

The potential gravitas of the world is undermined by a cloying circus-like silliness throughout.

The story is nonsensical. The entire game is a promise that you will eventually understand what's going on, but there's no payoff. Despite playing with quantum probabilities and alternate realities, the story is ultimately incredibly deterministic, and neither the player nor the player character seem to have any agency or free will in the slightest.

The combat is not fun. I started the game on hard, but turned it down to normal because I had no desire to spend any more time in combat than was necessary to complete the story.

At about hour 3, I was already looking forward to the end, while I held out hope that the story would redeem my boredom at some point. No such luck.

I am amazed to have played a game with such high production values that ultimately amount to almost nothing of value.

    It was a valiant effort.

While the graphics are mind-blowing and the flying city is a marvel to watch, it all falls flat when you can only carry two weapons, can't hack vending machines (can only use possession on them) and the main character is unlikable. I'm worried about the future of Bioshock 4... what other bad mechanics will they add in it? Health regeneration? Nickelback? Hopefully not. To sum this up, I think this game is a blast. A blast that is pleasant.. but still might kill you. Pickens approves. Expand

It is a very good game but it is not as good as the 1st two titles in the series. First of all the story although great and interesting, was very complicated and requires to go look up videos and articles to understand the full picture. Secondly, the gameplay was very underwhelming and not as fun as the previous titles.

Story: Really very lame various ideas are thrown into the pot with no attention paid to sense. It's not internally consistent. All of a sudden you get these magical "vigors" with no explanation. Powered by "salt". Very lazy ideas. Vigor dispensers are everywhere, so why doesn't everyone have them? WTF are these patriot machines doing everywhere? The whole story of the lamb why would you build such massively gigantic heavy statues on a floating world? Why is there a need for SO MUCH FORCE everywhere and yet residents act like there is none?

Shooting: Really all there is to it, bang bang bang. Enemies act completely stupidly and predictably at all times. This game really shows a totally simplistic and ugly American view of life in this world. It's quite sick really.

I hated it and if you loved it don't expect us to be hanging out together anytime soon.

I hate how people are so blinded by JUST the story and Elizabeth, who is the only interesting character in the game. Booker is a boring, static, and cliche protagonist. The AI are absolutely retarded when fighting. The handyman is the only exception to the bad enemy AI.

Graphics are bland and covered by bloom, hdr, and lighting effects. Textures are mediocre to poor.

The BI team obviously focused too much on story-telling to make this a top notch shooter. The only reason I gave this a two because of the good ideas and concepts (floating city, steampunk/dieselpunk style, enemy design). I hate to be writing a review like this, but I just can't get into this at all.

The game also manages to tell its story through the environment and audio logs just as in the previous games in the series. The only complaint i have regarding the story is that it lacks player interaction both in general and in interaction with characters in the game. But this game is a first person shooter and you are going to spend the majority of your time shooting stuff. The exploring is still there from the previous games but its not as fleshed out in this game since there are less stuff to find and the maps are more linear. Now the shooting is alright. Its is by no means terrible buts its not especially good either. The enemies are unvaried and feels like bullet sponges which makes the whole combat feel dull and unresponsive. The two-weapon limit is a total buzzkill and it doesnt help that the weapons in the game is nothing out of the ordinary. The vigors can be quite enjoyable but the meat of the combat is the shooting which is not that great. There are also some quite annoying boss battles in the game. Now the railways in the game are fun to use and the big open combat arenas in the game with height differences, tears, railways and turrets are where the games most enjoyable fights takes place. Sadly too few areas are like this and the combat can never really escape the fact that the basics arent all that great. it doesnt help that the combat is quite unvaried. Its not that i wish for bloody turret-sections every hour to spice things up but if you are going to make the player constantly shoot stuff the entire game (took me 11 hours on hard) then the shooting should be good enough to carry the game. And in this case the combat is not able to do that. Its hard to rate this game since the combat is average while everything else is pretty much amazing. But i do recommend this game despite its problems simple because how well they managed to pull of the everything besides the combat. Expand

But weird as I am, I don't want to play for hours straight. I like to have pauses in between playing. I like to do other things too. Which is why playing Bioshock Infinite frustrated me to no end, since I kept wondering when I can finally stop playing. Until I realized that the save symbol only flashes for like half a second.
Add the fact that the graphics aren't really up to snuff (the way this game performs on high end machines considering it's fairly low detail models and textures is just not acceptable) and you get to the 3/10 I have arrived at. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this game. I loved Bioshock 1 AND 2 and thought the story of this one really showed promise. But there's no way I am going to continue playing this game until they fix the save system.

Combat is the most fun I think I've had in any game, the sky rail things are so much fun, and although I would have liked to see more vigorous, they are all really nice abilities to have. Exactly the path video games SHOULDN'T be taking. Dumb down every aspect of gameplay, throw in a cliche story to make the simpletons feel smart, and put the rest of your budget into marketing.

A shallow excuse for a sequel, and an even shallower excuse for a video game. This is a $60 flavor of the month title that will be forgotten within a few year, do not support these kinds of titles.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is amazing and a pure breath of fresh air. It's still the same Bioshock we know and love but with a new fresh feeling. The graphics and characters are amazing! This is how a game with a NPC helper should feel like. Remember how games in which you had to save someone you had to keep them out of trouble? Elizabeth is nothing like those NPCs, she is actually quite helpful and you don't have to worry about her getting killed. During combat she gives you ammo, salts (similar to EVE or MANA) and is generally as a character quite interesting. You feel like she's a real life character. She reacts to what you're doing and to your choices. Sadly the choices is where this game falls a bit short. In the previous installations you could choose to be bad or good and that had consequences in the ending but not here. The game offers you a few choices but none of them actually have any meaning. There is only one ending and it's a pretty good one. The game is simply amazing and I feel this is how most story driven games should be like. Elizabeth and Booker are one of the most memorable group of characters I've ever met in a game! A definite must-own! Expand
