Overall I didn't expect much from this game since whenever the media goes crazy and starts throwing out 10/10's its usually a warning sign, but I expected one fragment of goodness from the first Bioshock. Nothing. This game is nothing like the first Bioshock. In Bioshock 1 you get a concrete sense of the world and atmosphere and you enjoy the exploration. Each location had a personality and a character to explore but Infinite is just a mess of boring locations and irrelevant characters. You just kinda wander and fight with no purpose until you reach the ending and get a vague sense of what it was all about only to realize you don't care about anything in the world of Colombia. If the gameplay was amazing I would give this game a 9/10 but it was all just very average, none of the guns felt cool and of the 7-8 vigors only one of them was entertaining. Everything Infinite tries to do, Bioshock 1 does better. Expand

I hate to do this to one of my favorite franchises around, but i must. This is not an awful game by far, it just doesn't meet with Bioshock 1 standards. Graphically not better than the first. Story not even close to the first. Gameplay... hmmm not better than the first but not terrible. Overall just a fun game and ok story line, nothing great. I'm a bit disappointed

Good but not great another fine example of industry overhype.

Overall game mechanics are dumbed-down significantly from Bioshock 1

In short, a shiny but shallow game. Worth playing for the world and the story, but nowhere near as good as people are making it out to be.

Game is great. However, it is far from perfect; at least on PC. The art content is very nice.

The game design is where the game feels lackluster in comparison to its predecessors. The level design and agency of the game feel extremely stifled. There are a few "decisions" here and there that make no difference, all customization items are strewn about randomly meaning that the map and enemy design go unaffected by them in the long run. The characters and bad guys also feel silly. I really wish that there was at least some sort of open worldedness and a way to explore in more ways.

Another problem that I have is why on earth can you not have multiple saves, let alone being able to save where you want. Bioshock 1 and 2 had this why does Infinite not. I just started another game to let my friend play and had to lose all my previous progress. It is uncalled for. There are other things such as the Vigor wheel obviously being geared towards controller use and weapon limiting but the save problems are the worst. I know this is a minor gripe but this should have been addressed.

The story is decent enough, but a let down compared to the first game, and not nearly as clever in its commentary about the world or video games. The best part of the game is your sidekick, Elizabeth, who is a sidekick done right and uses a very clever mechanic to make herself useful and meaningful, but the game itself failed to make itself dynamic enough for her to be used to her full potential.

The story of the original Bioshock is what really made the game special. Unfortunately, this game's story is not up to the level of the first game's story; you don't feel the same drive onward, and, unfortunately, because of the first game's twist, it is more obvious that there is going to be a twist in this one, which somewhat bothered me as I saw the twist coming from the very start of the game.
Unlike in the previous games, in Bioshock Infinite, your character, Booker DeWitt, has both a name and a personality. Booker speaks up throughout the game, talking to the various NPCs, and especially to his sidekick, Elizabeth.
The best and worst part of the game is the various transitions between realities; not only do you draw things between worlds, but you actually travel between worlds at various points in the game, to realities where things played out differently, including (eventually) a reality wherein Booker died after coming to the city.
The problem, ultimately, is that the game never really delivers on the story; it is alright, but it isn't spectacular, and the world-skipping, while a neat idea, never really ends up having the punch that it should, as well as making it so that what we did earlier didn't really matter in that particular world (or maybe it did - who knows?). The whole "dead in one world, alive in another" thing is never really properly explored or followed up on, even though it was built up in significance, and the end result is that while it advanced the plot it really failed to make the game awesome.

The ultimate weakness of this game lies in its gameplay. Bioshock Infinite is every bit the sequel to the previous Bioshock games, and this isn't a good thing - the gameplay is very similar to what it was in previous games, and while the enemy variety is a bit better in this game, there's nothing quite as exciting as some of the Big Daddy fights were in the first game. The Handymen are alright replacements for them, and make for reasonable enough fights, and your first fight against the various new types of enemies is neat enough, but as with the previous games, the lack of real bosses hurts the game a bit.
The normal soldiers who are running around in most of the game are not terribly difficult or interesting enemies to fight, and while some of the battlefields are very interesting and dynamic and make good use of Elizabeth's powers, many of the fights are the opposite - very static things where you just hide behind cover and shoot the enemies, gradually grinding your way through the group without changing what you had summoned into the fight with Elizabeth at all. Elizabeth's powers are really neat, but without a reason to run around during the fight (something some of the special enemies provided at times, especially the handymen, as well as some of the more interesting environmental setups) they often didn't end up very interesting as they just were a piece of whatever I summoned in at the start to help me, rather than something I brought in mid-fight to swing things in my favor.
The actual weapons in the game were very standard for a FPS, with the usual assortment of weapons, and unfortunately the upgrades system really encouraged you to try and stick to as few weapons as possible so that you could make the most use out of your upgrades - this is one of the major flaws of upgrade systems, in that they actually frequently reduce the variety of gameplay by encouraging you to not use a variety of weapons. Some of the weapons were also vastly better than others, and by the end of the game you pretty much had your pick of which weapon to use most of the time, rather than giving you a scavenging feel.
The vigors are supposed to help mix things up from the usual FPS point of view, and it is nice to have weird weapons in a game, but ultimately I only ended up using a small number of the vigors - really, the only good ones were the ones which temporarily incapacitated foes, including the one that gave me a free ally for a bit, and as a result I pretty much only used three vigors through most of the game. They also didn't fit into the world at all thematically.
All in all, the gameplay didn't really match the ambiance the story seemed to be trying to create, and the gameplay was too slow for the game itself - the game would have been better if it had avoided making you run around looking for change all the time.

That's where the major flaw lies in this otherwise well-polished and enjoyable action game. The story fails to deliver the satisfactory climax, or even a satisfactory epilogue. Instead, it goes out with a whimper, like a failed film-student project. Still, the beginning is a well grounded start to what could have been game of the year, with characters that start off believable and interesting. Too bad it steers off course and never reaches full promise. Merely a "good" game when all is said and done. Expand

Pros: Beautiful graphics. Skylines were fun. Vigors were fun to use. Story was good, and Elizabeth was a great character.
Cons: Repetitive and formulaic gameplay. The world isn't really "living and breathing" outside of the first part of the game. The Boss Fight. The game is ridiculously easy. Did I mention the Boss Fight?

On the other hand, overal graphical detail is a joke and although from artistical perspective can be sometimes beautiful, Columbia simply wasn't my thing. Main problem I have with the game (besides the absolutely ridiculous hype it somehow managed to create) is how the story fits into the game. It doesn't. Almost all of it (the important parts anyways) is stuffed to the last few chapters and how much sense it will make depends solely on how many hints you manage to find on your way there. That is simply not how storytelling is supposed to work, not to meniton the comlete lack of choice have in it. Were the gameplay and story in some sort of balance, resulting game would be about the third of its size at best. The storytelling is just terrible and it makes the story look way more complex than it really is and that's probably what generates all the hype. The story itself is pretty intereting and somewhat complex and would've made for a great movie, but the way it is told here is just sad and it hardly supports any actual gameplay.

First and foremost, the game is almost fatally repetitive. It is a strange thing because games are, by their very nature, a repetitious art-form, but Infinite has this weird quality about it where you can't help but feel like you're just being pulled along from one firefight to the other. The original Bioshock had a very palpable sense of tension and survival to it. The player got a real sense that the inhabitants of Rapture were universally hostile and bent on killing anything that was foreign to their territory. In Bioshock Infinite, enemies just sort of show up out of nowhere in little waves and start shooting you, over, and over, and over, and over again.
Bioshock Infinite is also ridiculously easy. I played through the game on Normal and only ran into one instance where I died more than once, and this instance was the final boss-fight. Bioshock had a much stronger emphasis on the importance of looting and resource management. I remember constantly having to juggle between weapons in that game because at any given moment half of them would be out of ammo and I would have to make due with what I currently had. Money was also much more scarce. Conversely, I was practically tripping over money and resources in Infinite. I believe I beat the game with over $6,000 in my wallet and therefore I never even came close to running out of ammo or health. I know that there is the infamous 1999 mode, but Normal difficulty should still pose more of a challenge than that.
Another issue I have is with the vigors, in that they seem totally arbitrary within the world of Columbia. Now, a friend pointed out to me that they seem to be more of a new thing to Columbia and that is why only a select few (the crow and fire men) have them, but it's still strange to play a bioshock game where vigors, for all intents and purposes, add NOTHING to the plot whatsoever. Plasmids and Adam were essential to the plot of Bioshock and now here are vigors, which are the exact same thing only this time they don't have a reason for being in the world aside from "well, it's a Bioshock game." Another strange thing about the vigors is that I was constantly forgetting to even use them. This isn't to say that they're totally ineffective, but the plasmids in Bioshock were ESSENTIAL to one's survival, whereas here I found that I was getting along just fine most of the time with just capping enemies off with my carbine, at which point I would realize I was incredibly bored and then I would remember "Oh yeah, I can set people on fire."
Lastly, if you ever take the time to stop and look at anything in Bioshock Infinite closely, you will see that it all looks hideous. Bioshock Infinite is plagued by muddy, low-res textures that the gorgeous lighting effects strain to make up for but never quite do. I have a hard time believing that the game is "too big" for better textures because Far Cry 3 looks generally marvelous and that game has a hell of a lot more to render at any given time than Infinite could ever dream of.
After all of this, the game is still worth playing and it's actually quite brilliant in small doses. I have issues with the story as well, but I don't want to write a spoiler-y review. Just know that if you take a good, honest look at Bioshock Infinite, you probably won't find the revolutionary, generation-defining masterpiece that everyone is heralding it as. We already got that game and it was just called "Bioshock."

However, as I played I found myself wishing for the game to be more like an RPG, and exploring diverging paths and C&C instead of a railroaded story. I also wished the game play were less of a gamey and saccharine shooter and more subtle and realistic. There is something off key about dropping and reacquiring the same set of half dozen weapons and then firing them at the same mechanized clowns I had to repeatedly gun down. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All right. I don't play many fps games recently as most of them are just military games which I have no interest in whatsoever. The only single player fps games I've played in recent 4 years were: MirrorsEdge which I lost interest to at around 3h in, HardReset which i still need to finish, Rage which glitched out on me in later part of the game and lost all my saves so i never bothered to go trough it again, Bioshock1 which shooting mechanics were very poor and never finished it, Portal& Half-Life Series which I actually finished all 4 games and expansions, and in last year I've played a lot of Blacklight and a bit of QuakeLive. Now you know where I'll be coming from, let's move on to the review. The story is basically another version of wizzard of oz. Unfortunately the mature subject matters that it speaks off feel unbaked, and the religion aspect just feel biased. It would be nice if instead of getting an opinionated answers, the game would create a questions and invite us in to conversation outside of the game. The characters were entertaining, thought somewhat inconsistent in their actions, behaving illogical at points. I guess I could just call those moment plot movers. However I did started to care about them in the second part of the game, and they were few moments that did touch me the whole bit in the future in the asylum where you're meeting up with old Elizabeth Elizabeth herself is animated really well, and I would even go as far as to say it's almost pixar quality. Shame that song bird is almost absent. I would have thought judging by early videos that I would have to fight that creature on few occasions, which would be a blast. Its story is also underwhelming.

The setting is something that is up to personal preferences and taste, but it did resonate with me a lot. I do like that surreal vibe, and to me it feel most visionary part of the game. It's dramatic and full of detail (playing on Ultra). It made me want to continue the game to see what else have the art team prepared. However due to the fact that it was made for consoles, there was no huge outdoors areas like the ones we have seen in the pitch videos, which is a real shame as everything does feel a bit narrow. Only in the final portion of the game you have a little bit of branching paths. The character design is very cool. While the outside areas feel very refreshing, the indoors do look like first game. Thought invisible walls were starting getting irritating after a while. A lot of people say that combat was simple, but I did find it a bit difficult, which maybe due to the controls, which are a bit of a mixed bag. Now, I did tweak them, and got used to them more in the second part of the game, but they did feel somewhat off. The KB layout was pretty weird. And the movement itself has got some issue, like I don't understand why I can reload while running, but why I can't start running while reloading. Also choice of press shift to run instead hold shift to run is beyond me. But the worst offender is the UI. So much for Ken Levin's talk in the interviews that they work hard to make pc version control good. To his credit thought the gun play was much tighter then original BS(but that's not pc specific feature). Guns themselves are not very distinguishable, giving me hard time to differentiate them, but they feel pretty good. I ended up just using arm cannon(or whatever it was called) and rpg, sometimes carabin. Didn't really seam like it matters much which gun i use anyway as long as i stick to short range/long range rule. The battles are pretty good but they really get better in the second portion of the game, in which the game start throwing at you a lot of different types of enemies at once. It did made my heart pumping faster. Also the rails are really cool addition to quickly navigate the environments and I found myself using them more and more with enjoyment. Also, as I mentioned in the beginning of this review, I didn't play much BS1 so for me upgrading was all right in this game. Also loot is everywhere and I know it is made to ocd your exploration, but not sure if it does favor to create better mood. Technically i had not much issues with the game, aside from one game breaking bug in the beginning ot the game at the festival. I love the soundtrack. Imagine industrial music played by string quartet and interpreted as it would be a movie soundtrack. Overall I had a blast with the game, but looking at it from the distance of several days, I can see that the game is slightly unfinished and It is a shame that I feel like console limitation hold it back from achieving the grander scale presented in the pitch videos that it could have had. Game would certainly benefit from more exploration, better variety of weapons, better structured story and character, more objective critique. and better pc controls. Game is really good but It could have been "smarter".

Amazing start (first few levels until after the Elizabeth rescue) and a good solid effort at a disturbing twist ending.

As a personal note, I almost passed on this game because of the "liberal friendly" reputation it was getting in the press. I didn't care to drop sixty bucks to be preached to. I read another review which said that angle of the game was being misrepresented and that it was much more of an equal presentation of extremism tied in with historically accurate depictions of race relations and American culture in the early 1900s. I found this to be spot on. At one point the protagonist observes the only real difference between the Big Bad White Guy and Big Bad Community Leader is how you spell their names.

Rating of 7 out of 10
1 point removed because it's at root just another first person shooter. No original gameplay mechanics.
1 point removed because of the lack of compelling story throughout. The middle section drags.
1 point removed because of the lazy vending machine insertion to service the upgrade mechanic required in FPS games with not respect to the surrounding "story and environment" the game is getting lauded for having.

Beyond those points, a solid fun 8-10 hours of gaming for an experienced gamer. 20 hours if you explore every nook and cranny.

And Elizabeth tossing crap at you is just funny.

Also, the first few levels when you initially arrive to Columbia are absolutely amazing, stunningly beautiful and crafted with great skill and precision. Unfortunately this aspect also takes a turn for the worse in the second half and the world starts looking and feeling somewhat mediocre and cheap.

It is a good game but not a great one. I wasn't going to grade it, but it got too overrated for me. The worst part was the game's repeatability and predictability (especially if someone has already played it's predecessors). Also, it had a slight console taste, which never gets along with my game taste buds.

I did not like previous installments of Bioshock and I could hardly stand the view of the city in the clouds with tons of glowing graphics with outdated textures. This game resembles Dishonored and The Darkness, but IMHO is not as good as they are. I used a trainer to get infinite amount of money and salts because collecting them was really boring. The idea of objects appearing from other worlds through tears is quite interesting though. Another plus is that the game runs smoothly and I could see no errors.

Think of this game as the action adventure version of BioShock. Unfortunately the shooter mechanics are not good enough to stand on their own(like other BioShock games) and there is not enough other stuff to fall back on. The plasmid replacements don't seem to add much to the game and the weapons aren't very interesting so combat is very repetitive. There really isn't much in the way of enemy variety and very few enemies have unique mechanics. This causes the action to get a little stale sometimes. Most of the time combat involves killing a wave of mooks and then moving two rooms down a linear path and killing another wave of mooks who will sometimes be accompanied by a generic miniboss that you have already seen a couple times.

The story is decent but it really isn't self consistent, which might bother people.(it bothered me a little bit) The environment is also less interesting than in previous BioShock games. The areas are very linear, with linear branches that go to optional equipment or lore. It doesn't give the same sense of exploration as previous BioShock games.

Overall it's definitely not a bad game and it is worth playing, but it has it's fault and is generally over-hyped.

But this game is a first person shooter and you are going to spend the majority of your time shooting stuff. The exploring is still there from the previous games but its not as fleshed out in this game since there are less stuff to find and the maps are more linear. Now the shooting is alright. Its is by no means terrible buts its not especially good either. The enemies are unvaried and feels like bullet sponges which makes the whole combat feel dull and unresponsive. The two-weapon limit is a total buzzkill and it doesnt help that the weapons in the game is nothing out of the ordinary. The vigors can be quite enjoyable but the meat of the combat is the shooting which is not that great. There are also some quite annoying boss battles in the game. Now the railways in the game are fun to use and the big open combat arenas in the game with height differences, tears, railways and turrets are where the games most enjoyable fights takes place. Sadly too few areas are like this and the combat can never really escape the fact that the basics arent all that great. it doesnt help that the combat is quite unvaried. Its not that i wish for bloody turret-sections every hour to spice things up but if you are going to make the player constantly shoot stuff the entire game (took me 11 hours on hard) then the shooting should be good enough to carry the game. And in this case the combat is not able to do that. Its hard to rate this game since the combat is average while everything else is pretty much amazing. I'm not sure what Ken Levine meant with the "1999 mode" because there is NONE of the depth of System Shock 2 in this game. In this, I am disappointed in Ken Levine. He started some of the most seminal works in gaming, including the Thief games, System Shock 2, and Bioshock. Now Bioshock 1 was already a "step back" from System Shock 2. But having read about the "1999 mode" I naively assumed this game would move the opposite direction away from dumbing down the gameplay. But really, 1999 mode is just a difficulty setting, that's all it is.

If you haven't played or been exposed to as many classics as I have, then I'm sure this will live up to the hype for you. But know that something 'better' has been made in the past, by the same man.

What Bioshock Infinite does extremely well, is that it is an absolutely beautifully rendered world with a great story-line. I was simply amazed with the graphics and experienced no slow-downs at max settings on my HD7970 it is very well optimized, whereas most games are not. Elizabeth is a character you really can fall in love with during your adventure with her.

I picked the "Hard" difficulty to play the game with, as I'm somewhat seasoned in FPS games and love a good challenge. What Bioshock Infinite defines as "hard" however, is not actually something challenging. You just die a bit more than you would on the other game modes, with 0 set-backs/punishments for failure. Death can actually be a rewarding experience as you come back to life with more ammo and your health reset, in basically the same location with all enemies you killed still dead. The difficulty setting itself is almost entirely irrelevant.

Gameplay seemed somewhat similar to a borefest I played recently (again, overly praised) called "Borderlands 2". You get a couple of guns at a time, your character can melee and you get "special moves" such as the ability to possess people, throw grenades or uppercut them across the room. Interesting abilities but not anything that radically change the game. Once you find Elizabeth in the game, she also has the ability to open "tears" of your choice, which can give you access to med-packs, extra ammo, an automated turret, etc... which introduces extra tactics into the game. Which are ultimately negated by the fact that you CAN NOT FAIL at this game (again, my gripe with difficulty).

When I see "94 out of 100", I expect an amazing gameplay experience. Instead what I got, was amazing graphics and story with gameplay tacked on. If that's what you look for in your gaming, go with Bioshock.

Even elements shown in the Beta game-play seemed to be non-existent: such as being fired at with artillery weapons and having a telekinesis power to stop the shells, sandbox level design, larger and more open areas and the random collapse of buildings. However due to time, story and technology restraints many of these features were unrealistic so many of this is excusable.

Is the game pretty? Yes. It makes good use of high end hardware for those who have powerful systems. For a world that looks so gorgeous and seems so open, it's very on the rail, as they say. Speaking of being on the rail, there's no real choices in the game. The first two games had choices and consequence for those choices. You had to choose whether to save the little Sisters and only take enough Adam (in game energy) or harvest them and end their existence, but getting more precious Adam in return. You also had choices whether to spare or kill certain characters (some of which were real scum bags). Every choice had a consequence and depending on your choices your story may have a different ending. I used to wrestle with the choices made as I wanted a certain ending but also because I thought about what kind of protagonist I wanted to be. This game? Nothing. Not only are there little choice in this game but even if you make a choice it makes no difference because there's no consequence. You can kill anyone and it doesn't matter. Is that the message we send in games and entertainment? That choices have no consequence? It's also ironic as one of the games themes is redemption for the main protagonist. At it's core, this game is a solid shooter but the AI is dumb on Normal difficulty. If I got killed it was due to sheer numbers or an unbalanced damage system. Vigors for the most part were useless except Possession, Devils Kiss and Shock jockey. I ended up just getting a sniper rifle and sniping most enemies from a distance with headshots. So like playing Call of Duty in a prettier world. Not to give anything away, but the ending willing probably piss most people off and have you saying WTF. I walked away scratching my head, but after reading an explanation online it made a little more sense. The thing that pissed me off most was again no choice even when you finally face the games nemesis, Comstock. No boss fight leading up to the confrontation and no final boss fight, just an onslaught of enemies who come at you in waves. Just seemed lazily done at the end and was a big letdown for me, personally. Especially for a game series that in the past has stood out in the FPS genre as always having a strong story and solid single player campaign. I wanted to keep playing just to see what happened, but unlock the second game where I took the punishment of cheap kills due to unbalanced play as it had a great story, this one began to feel like a chore. Bottom line? This game is pretty and has lots of polish, but underneath the veneer is a hollow experience that left me wanting more. Play the original game and maybe check out the second as it still was pretty good. Wait until this goes on a Steam sale if you still haven't played this yet. Expand

When you factor in the fact that you are literally immortal and there is no way to fail, even on Hard (I should have tried 1999 Mode), and boredom starts to set in after just a few hours. Another average game aimed at the teenagers, its very disappointing that mainstream gaming has become as boring as the movies being made. Every time i play one of these so called 10/10 games i find my self looking backwards in time for the real masterpieces of video games.

I have mixed feelings about the game, only because it contains the name Bioshock My favorite game of all time. I do believe this is a good game for some people. It is definitely different from the original Bioshock. That would not be a bad thing, if that didn't mean it wasn't the same as many games that came before it. Game-play: Boring unless you enjoy traditional FPS game-play. You can only hold 2 weapons at once. There are no ammo types and the guns are all pretty standard. The sky hooks can be pretty fun but it feels under utilized. The vigors can be pretty fun, but they aren't really anything you haven't already had with plasmids from the original Bioshock.

Atmosphere and Immersion The game tends to be very atmospheric at times proper background sounds and enchanting music, look and feel of the environment. However many times it breaks the immersion either once you are thrown into a combat sequence or have to deal with the people. The people in the game look and feel incredibly fake, and they don't entirely fit the feelings you get when the game is most atmospheric like the themes are clashing. Whether this is intentional or not, it makes for a less than ideal experience.

Booker as a character, talks too much. I don't know why, but i really hated that Booker talked, ever.

The audio diaries and lore of the world were also rather uninteresting. So much is left unexplained and topics unexplored. There seemed to be lacking significant back-story to the world and the people which over all made it feel less real and therefore less immersive.

Story The story is fairly interesting with your usual twist at the end. It did at times lead me having some actual feelings for Elizabeth, though they were mostly just pity for her situation. I would at least argue the story has enough there to keep you going. Although if this didn't have Bioshock in the name, i don't know if could say the same. I kept expecting more from the story purely based on it's name and it occasionally, if inconsistently, delivered.

Overall the game was inconsistent with a lot of things. It almost feels like this kind of Frankenstein version of a game that was cut and sewn and left with odd scars. It had a lot of great times in the game mixed in with an unfortunate amount of bad ones. I still recommend you get the game yourself because compared to a typical shooter, this game is good. Compared to the original Bioshock however, this game is awful. So don't come in, attempting to re-live your first Bioshock experience.

Everything is brilliant about this game, except for the combat. It becomes way too repetitive and turns more into a chore than a fun experience later on, as you're faced with waves of the same enemies again and again, till eventually you are allowed to walk into another room, where the same thing resumes.

Soundtrack: annoying. The music was great, but it's just that when there is zero original music and you already have all the soundtrack's classical songs on CD, you don't want to hear them in a game like this. It destroys the atmosphere and gets old really fast. It's fine to use a popular song a couple of times in a game, but not all the time. For those who want to buy the soundtrack... how about just buying the original records? Controls: mediocre for a PC game, but nothing seriously wrong. Plot: a mixed bag. I felt like the writing was both imaginative and lazy at the same time kind of goes with the general idea of the game... I was disappointed in the end, however. You know the feeling you get when a story ends in "...but it was all just a dream" that's almost the feeling I got from the ending. Then there is the action: mediocre at best. Boring enemies, mostly boring firefights, generic shooting most of the time. Hide behind crates while loading your shields, shoot waves of brainless enemies pretty much just running towards you and throw in a couple of spells (vigors) if you have mana (salt). Sound original? Not really. How about a cyborg (handyman) every now and then so that it kills you instantly after you respawn, because you happen to respawn at its feet. Sound like fun? Not really. I played on hard difficulty level, and most of the game was quite easy, but suddenly there were scenes where you died a few times in a row, which did not feel that well balanced as a gaming experience. Years after finishing them, I'm still thinking of how great games Bioshock 1 and 2 were, how smooth and fun the action was, how good and crazy the characters and story was. I just finished Bioshock Infinite an hour ago, and I can't really think of any interactive scenes worth remembering. If you are new to the series, definitely go for the previous two rather than this. If you are a Bioshock fan, try this one out but ready yourself for disappointment. Expand

Problem is your character although voiced this time around, he doesn't really interact with characters. Alot of the places while spectacularly beautiful don't contain nearly enough interesting stories. Also the whole alternate timeline cracks that you can peak through don't show characters so you don't know who's talking to whom. Thats not a improvement over audiotapes, its the same thing!
The gameplay improvements we where shown in videos are not here, Elizabeth's power to alter reality like make yourself a door or pull in a train to squash all the enemies is mysteriously gone in the released version. They Scaled back what she can do, completely making this otherwise unique and interesting concept pretty dull on execution. In fact even when you do move into alternate realities all there seems to be is the same posters, the same turrets and sky hooks, which is pretty damn unimaginative.

Bioshock infinite has made the gameplay a tad weaker with less depth to the abilities (ie just lots of ways to kill and no real utility stuff) but they more than made up for it by making it challenging, a 1999 difficulty setting. Shooting guns is what these games are about. Long game is good. Hard boss fight is good, that is the point, testing all the skills you've learned so far.
The game also carries over a issue we've seen before, the lack of choice. We don't really make any meaningful choices in fact we are barred from doing so when they would logically make sense.

A lot of things are not explained, like Vigors and handyman, but I don't care about that. Some non-sensical things happen like Elizabeth going right passed angry mobs that kill you onsight, eh oversight right there but I can forgive that. Overall I enjoyed the game but it really didn't connect with me philosophically or imagination wise.

Everyone tried to tell me that the combat is great... it's not. I personally don't enjoy seeing a series that once gave you freedom of choice as far as character building through either various upgrades & Plasmids/Psychic-Powers (each power is versatile and each weapon has 3 different types of ammunition) just boiled down to "see guy... shoot him with 1 of your 2 gunz. Want cool? Use special power that feels almost like the previous power you were using earlier, except with different graphix." Not to mention that the meaningful fights against mutated humans, many which still hold enough humanity in them to almost make each encounter seem tragic, have been replace by drooling, raving Racists that have no regard for their personal well-being while throwing logic to the curb and suicide run themselves towards your Regenerating-Shielded self. The enemies, with no logic behind it, are just regular humans that can absorb multiple bullets to the face in any difficulty that's higher than "Normal." (The mutated creatures got away with that in SS2/BS1-2 because there was still a in-game Leveling System through the Cyber-Modules/Camera that increase your abilities). The story also left the worst taste in my mouth. What started with a very interesting look at both racism and American "super-Jingoism," is quickly forgotten about. midway through the game, opting out for an episode of Sliders/Doctor Who. They've squandered the city they created, the side-characters they've introduced, the compelling themes at the beginning of the game, and what could've been a great look on the effects of both racism and the consequences of the "Revolution" that has been going on, and rendered them all moot by the last half of the game. I'm still not 100% sure what can be considered "Art" in video games, but in my honest opinion, this isn't it. Nothing is being said. Nothing is learned. Nothing is gained. 7/10 for still being kind of fun most of the time, but failing to meet up with the expectations given to me and having less meaningful content than its predecessors

When you're not gunning down enemies while ignoring useless vigors the game seems empty of exploration and decision making.

The storyline is linear, forced, short, anticlimactic, poorly explained, and a knock-off of a show called Fringe. I'm not joking about that. You can watch the show and get the same story as infinite.

The difficulty of the game is a joke. They put vendors and items in what seems like every corner of the map having you constantly upgraded on weapons, stocked with money, and full on salts.

Then they try to keep you entertained with gimmicks such as Elizabeth handing you vigor salts, coins, and ammo (not to mention the unnecessary sound effects that follow it) as well as the sky-lines which you are most likely only going to use in areas that you have to.

Aside from the negatives the game does a good job with art style and character depth, but that's about it

I've only now finished this game, despite having it for a while, and I thought I'd give my impressions of it. First of all, it is undeniably overrated. Playing the last Bioshock games and moving to this one; they haven't really done anything revolutionary. Sure, it's an enjoyable game, and it mixes up the FPS genre, but it really isn't worth the perfect scores that are granted to it.

To start, seeing as it's a PC game, let's look at the graphics. Stunning, right? Well yeah, they're pretty good, but considering the game is linear, it isn't really cutting edge. Not to say it's ugly, but it's using the sort of water-colour pallet which can be found in other games like Dishonoured. It's nice to look at, but it isn't really the breath taking sights which appear in games such as Metro: Last Light or Crysis 3.

As for the gameplay, it's fun, and I can lose time in it, but it can feel a little bit shallow at times. Before you rage against me, examine the 'vigors' of the game. The same as plasmids in the former Bioshocks, they give you superhuman powers with which you can wreck everything. But among them, there are just a few too many similarities for my liking. Bucking Bronco, Undertow and Shock Jockey all have effects which aren't particularly unique. The first upgrade essentially stuns an enemy. The second upgrades mix things up a bit but then other similarities can be found; for example the mine effects of Shock Jockey and Devil's Kiss. Some are more interesting, like Charge or Possession, but in the end they don't act too differently to, say, shooting an enemy in another game in a weak spot and watching them recoil. Add some gunplay of which the most interesting part are the gun noises, and it failed to give any memorable weapons, or moment's that I'll remember using them.

As for the story...it's interesting? Elizabeth is a nice character, but I feel as if she's kinda there to cater to the audiences' idea of a perfect girl, or something thereabouts. Booker is one of those protagonists with a grizzled attitude, tough guy exterior blah blah blah. He had some interesting moments, but most of those seemed to be swept up in his choices. Some of the more interesting plot developments later on in the game just made me feel disconnected; I won't spoil them, but it feels as if your actions have less effect on your own environment, and that just makes me question Booker's actions all the more.

All in all, it's not a bad game by any means. Moments like moving around on the sky rail were always fun, but I just feel that it hasn't really turned out to be as good as everyone said. Gameplay is solid, graphics are nice and the story will probably leave some people in love with the characters, but I don't think it's worth full price, especially if you're buying for a console for whatever reason. Wait for a steam sale, pick it up and play through it and then you'll be able to get all the necessary references. If you're not interested in that sort of thing, then you might want to give it a miss.

That being said, there are quite a few good things about the game that I liked very much. Just like everyone else, I think this is a visually gorgeous game, and the art is one of the reasons I gave it a seven instead of a five. I also enjoyed the music and audio design, and I loved some of the musical Easter eggs in the game. I enjoyed having enemies I could blast with no moral qualms at all. There are a lot of good things in Bioshock Infinite and if you can put up with the game's shortcomings it is probably worth doing so just to see all the neat stuff in the setting they created. Also, it's fair to say that Elizabeth is one of the better sidekicks I've seen in a game.

Sadly, the game falls short in the gameplay category to the point where I'm not sure you can call this a game. The enemies are generic for the most part (though a couple are interesting from a visual standpoint, naturally), and they took out the lock picking and hacking mini-games from the original Bioshock, so you spend most of your time looking in trashcans when you aren't shooting large numbers of cookie cutter enemies. Weapon upgrades and your "vigors" (magic zappy powers) aren't much different from previous Bioshock games. In the end, the lack of gameplay mechanics and generic shoot outs left me just wanting to be done with the game. Once the appeal of the setting started to wear off, things got pretty tedious.

The deal-breaker for me was the fact that I had no meaningful control over the character when it really mattered, because those were the times you were stuck in cut scenes, right up to the end. It's hard to explain how unsatisfying the ending is without spoilers, but I can say that the end itself made no sense at all in the context of the rules they themselves had made, as well as being kind of banal and predictable. It was a huge disappointment for me and I felt I should have stopped playing sooner rather than toughing it out to the end.

To sum up: people who love watching a story unfold and don't mind a bit of tedium may find Bioshock Infinite right up their alley. As for me, I think Bioshock Infinite might make a good movie but as a game it was a fairly average offering.

The combat was alright, the tears add a new element of gameplay that was enjoyable, but there is mostly nothing new. The characters are perhaps the most redeeming aspect of the game, and the voice acting was very pleasing, and while most people may find the ending and major plot points satisfying or 'deep', i think it was mostly pseudo-depth created by the unnecessary complexities and conceptual tangles it creates that makes it seem good, any close inspection on the 3rd act and ending will reveal pretty major plot holes. Ken Levine at one point said he wanted people to play this game "their own way" and then be able to tell their friends "this is how I beat that part". It was going to be about how we the players played it uniquely ourselves. But that is a joke in Bioshock Infinite. It is completely linear and very minimal sense of your own play style, nothing like Far Cry 2 anyway. The skyline is appealing, but and maybe this is what Ken Levine meant by choose your own style, but to me it didn't add enough to my choice of how to beat the game.
Far Cry 2/3 can run on consoles, I don't understand why then we are still getting linear games like Bioshock Infinite, where all 3 platforms can handle more. Imagine an open-world Columbia, where you can truly play as you want and complete the game your own way like Far Cry 2/3. Add Infinite to the list of linear, check-point-only-save games that are all so similar these days. What a bore for gaming.

I found Bioshock 1 and 2 blew me away with how incredible and magical they were, especially the first one. That was a game!! Music, setting, combat, visuals, hacking, EVERYTHING.

Infinite is good visually but it's not as good or fun of a game I think overall, not nearly as that of Bioshock 1 or 2. Over-rated and I hate that they connected Rapture to the story. Not what I thought it was going to be. Disappointing.

The biggest downside for me is the action is often so hectic it is more less impossible to work out what is going on, enemies are thrown at you from all directions and non of the weapons/vigors seem to have any great effect against the more powerful enemies. The relentless action also makes the game very repetitive and you often feel you are playing the same section of the game over and over getting killed again and again. The constant action also stops you being able to wander and take in your surroundings which was one of the enjoyable aspects of the previous games.

This is not a bad game but I would not pay full price for it and think it has been over hyped due to the poor standard of recent releases.

Bioshock Infinite has very good story and vivid character, especially the NPC. It's like the play within a play in Bioshock. But, the E3 Demo(2011 15min) is the another Bioshock series? some elements are missing in the Game. Where is it?

This game is highly overrated in my opinion for a few reasons only
The combat system is boring, you barely have enough salts to use even your weakest spells more than 8 times.

the storyline is awesome and the characters in this game have really likable personalities overall, except for booker, he was extremely generic and unappealing.
Columbia is huge, however it's boring.
there are some very awesome enemies in this game, but they are very repetitive and they have crapton of health, and i found this to be very irritating.
All in All, this game is solid, however it has a lot of drawback.

It feels like Ken Levine put too many ingredients in the soup and starts to lose track of what he wants to make the story about. Almost all of the political philosophy is lost a certain way into the game due to a focus on multiverses, which is interesting on it's own but eventually reaches an ending that doesn't have anything to do with the world and politics of Columbia at all. I was disappointed because I was under the assumption that the writers were trying to fix the flaws the original bioshock had, but it does not ruin the whole game. It would be best to wait for the price to lower, but you will not have remorse if you go for it while it's still 60 dollars. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioshock Infinite is a competent FPS. However, competent doesn't mean greatness, and Infinite has a long way to go before it reaches that pedestal.

Graphically: The game looks very pretty upon first glance. Once you actually stop to look at what's going on and pay attention to the finer details, you notice some glaring problems. First is the bloom. There's bloom everywhere, and it's far overdone. The entire environment looks over saturated. Then you get up close to the textures, and they look extremely dated. From far away, the apple boxes look full of fruit, but when you get up close you seem some 2006 era textures. Okay, well what about the NPCs? Pay attention to their faces, and you'll find that many of them not only look absurd, but they also share the exact same face. The vigor's showing their effects on your hands is a nice touch, but one is left to wonder why they removed seeing the effects of weapon upgrades.

Gameplay: The gameplay is an absolute step back from Bioshock 1 and 2. You have access to all vigors at all times, making it so that you don't have to plan your engagements nearly as carefully. The two gun limit is also wholly unnecessary. It would work very well from a gameplay standpoint if ammo was very scarce, and you were forced to use money on vending machines or constantly switch weapons in order to survive. But because Elizabeth is always there to give you ammo, you're never in any real danger of not having ammo. There doesn't really seem to be any point in having a two gun limit. It does absolutely nothing for the game.

Then you have the issue of Elizabeth. Bioshock 1 was great not just for its story, but for its atmosphere. Infinite doesn't have anywhere near the atmosphere that Bioshock 1 and 2 provided with Rapture. In the previous games, you were pretty much alone in this strange, dark world. In Infinite Elizabeth is not only almost constantly by your side, but she gives you things to help you along the way. You don't have to worry about managing your health, because Elizabeth gives you healthpacks when you're low. You don't have to worry about not being able to use vigors, because she gives you salts. She even gives you money and the aformentioned ammo. Halfway through the game, you have enough money to buy anything you want, even if you don't spend a lot of time looting. How does this improve the game? It doesn't, it makes it very very boring. You never have to worry about resource management, because you can't run out.

This brings me to the shield. Here is a gameplay element that is entirely tacked on. Why do you have a shield? Why does nobody else have a shield? The shield only serves as a way for you to play like a pissed off teenager. You don't have to worry about dying, because your shield recharges. So you run in, shoot a bunch of people, and then hide while what is essentially a second health bar recharges. The AI is dumb enough to let you do this. This and Elizabeth only serve to make the game easier. Why make the game easier for no reason? Bioshock 1 and 2 weren't even that difficult to begin with. 1999 doesn't even rectify this problem, as it only makes enemies hit harder and sponge more bullets.

Story: The story is an absolute train wreck. It starts off pretty good, but quickly goes off the rails. It all falls apart when you have to help the Vox. Okay, you don't care about the Vox and just want an airship right? Good, Booker feels the same way. Then you go through a bunch of honestly pointless crap, to show you just WHY you should sympathize with the Vox. Fink is a bad man. Minorities are horribly oppressed in Columbia. Okay, maybe I should care about the Vox. And then their leader tries to kill a child, and they end up killing as many innocents as Columbia's police force. So, wait a second here. The minorities are oppressed because they're "uncivilized savages" and to give Columbia a reason to have an army right? Then isn't the whole message of what Columbia is doing is wrong completely nullified when the minorities do exactly what the propaganda claims they'll do?

Not only that, but Comstock is a villain who's never really done anything personally to you. The only reason to dislike him is for what he's done to Elizabeth, which honestly isn't some GREAT ATROCITY. The overarching themes here are supposed to be regret and forgiveness, yet NOBODY forgives anybody for anything in this game. Then, you get to the ending.

Elizabeth is omniscient. She sees all realities and understands them all. If she is omniscient, then wouldn't she have known all of this would happen from the moment she loses her pinkie? If she knew all of this, why not just state it from the start? The only way for her to attain omniscience when the siphon is destroyed is if time is linear. She can attain her powers and thus know everything from that point on. But if time is linear, drowning Booker creates a grandfather paradox. Causality is kind of

Bioshock Infinite is a beautiful looking game with an exceptional story. There aren't many situation where you are forced to put your skills and abilities to the test. Oddly enough, Booker Dewitt (you) can't stealth until a certain section at the very end of the game, which by the way, seems very out of place. In addition to multiple oddities throughout the game, there is never a point throughout the game where you feel vulnerable or exposed. This can be quite a letdown because the magnitude of the situation doesn't really seem that high.

There's alot of praise coming in for this game, but I think that's mainly to the fact that the story is considered by many as "deep". People assumes the game is good because its difficult to understand whats going on. True, the concept of Bioshock Infinite is intriguing, and there is no game like it; but that doesn't mean it deserves the huge amount of praise it has been receiving. Though the alternate time reality concept pops up in alot of the media nowadays, Bisohock ends up pulling it off very well. Wish there was an alternate universe were the gameplay didn't seem like such a chore. Definitely not worth full price.

The story had the chance to be something amazing, but it's pace seemed somewhat forced and monotone.... and the climatic ending(which was the only real climax) was extremely "unclimatic" in my personal opinion. I feel as if the story could have been so much more, especially with an extension of good, solid playtime. From start to finish, this game is an average of 8 to 12 hours total play time. For 60 dollars, that's a major sell short for me personally. I think the story could have bloomed into so much more, with spaced out re-visits with a better attention to details/unlocks. The lack of total storyl ine gameplay time also brings in a sense of "incompleteness" as you will be unable to fully unlock the plethora of powers/weapon upgrades that are available in the game. I understand from the devs perspective that they wanted to add replayability by choosing different weapon and power upgrades with each play through, but with the story's pace and briefness, I can only see most gamers getting 2 or 3 play throughs before putting Bioshock Infinite down for good.

I sincerely hope that quality DLC may be able to breath that small bit of extra life into the game that it so desperately needs, but I cross my fingers that it won't be too little too late. By the time it would come around, I as I can imagine most will have moved on to new or other games which may raise the bar and overshadow this brief champion of the "now".

    What's Bad:
1/ Reasonable graphics that don't really change from max settings to min. (resource whore as well...)
2/ Can only carry two weapons at a time
3/ Most of the Vigors are useless and lack a feeling of power
4/ A couple of Vigors are overpowered
5/ Easy. Even easier than the first Bioshock
6/ The new gear system doesn't make sense
7/ Huge info dump at the end
8/ Red tears are never explained, what are they? What do they do? We may never know.

But the worst thing wrong with this game is the ending.
1/ It's nothing compared to the ending of the first (Unfair comparison, I know)
2/The ending is predictable (No really, I guessed at most of the ending within the first hour)
3/ Poorly thought-out ending (It ignores the base rules of time travel, ignores its own logic and is just ridiculous)

In short. It's a good game but because of the poor ending it is not the "Genre Defining" game we all wanted. Get Bioshock Infinite but give it time to drop in price, it's not long until the Steam Summer sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I usually keep silent, but I can't with this. I'm a game love and a programmer, so I always appreciate the gameplay and also the game construction. Graphics and story aside. I would barely call this a "modern" game in a time when player personal experience is key.

First play, I was easily able to get through the came on difficult level. There was such scene control for User Interface that it was more like playing a movie than a game. Modern games should be more than just a game you play once. I've heard the halflife argument and I'm a huge fan of Halflife, but this is what halflife had this doesn't: Replay-abililty! Even when Halflife was done, I would replay "fight" sequences on halflife over and over, trying different tactics. I think the game creators of bioshock INF. knew this, which is why the game seems for force you onward, not giving you a chance to replay your favorite fight sequence, because you won't have one.

I also played the game through twice, chose all different options in the game, and it had no effect on gameplay. Terrible choice to put the game in a racially charged environment, asking the player to make a racial choice, then that choice has no effect. In a world that publicly pelts interracial couples, which side you are on makes a difference. It's insulting to have the game start with such a powerful personal choice that makes no difference! Take this as a foreshadow for the whole game whether you make careful choices or sleep you way through, the game give no greater reward. So don't bother searching you soul here, just click a choice, forget it and move onward.

This is also reflective of the 'quantum' concept as well. They use the premise that all realities exist and therefor changing one reality can have no effect because in another reality it will happen, which is why no matter what you do doesn't stop the main character. And what was the game designers solution: change reality. What? Stopping baptism in one life doesn't stop it in another, as so stated by the game itself!

They set up the potential that they could create a game with choices that made a difference on gameplay, yet in the end, all players end in the same place, which would feed to their quantum concept that you can't change the outcome because all outcomes exist. It almost feels like the story writers and game designers weren't working together. Like the maps and characters were make here, and the story somewhere else, so when they were put together, the story is vast and wide, and the gameplay narrow.

They created a beautiful world with a super-charged environment, and all they had to do was create a few alter-characters that would talk to you if you made this choice or that, and that little effort would have made the game worth playing again, and choices worth making. Instead, they chose a homogenized experience in a polarized world.

It's like a mediocre high budget film. You'll love it for the effects, find holes in the story, and in the end best waiting until you have a slow weekend and it comes out on video to see. Ultimately, I recommend that people wait till the cost comes down, and then play it once, have fun, and expect to not want to play it again.

The gears seemed more fun and you had quite a nice selection to choose from, although again once I had certain ones I never felt I had to swap them around for different encounters etc.
The story was nice although rather predictable, it's a great shame there was no real emphasis or implementation of choices, instead what we get is just an average on rails fps, there was so much hope for this game a year ago, and yet what could have been great was scrapped and this is what we get.

Cool atmosphere with this game but at it's core it is just another shooter. Walk into an area and trigger an attack, rinse and repeat. Definitely worth playing, just way over hyped in my opinion.

The same can be said for the weapons. As with all the previous BioShocks, death is a momentary setback, before you respawn next to the half dead creatures you were previously fighting, which cheapens the whole affair.

Once I noticed that money was worthless and I could get by without really using vigors and only upgrading the carbine, I just powered through the game without looking in every trash can for money. Elizabeth throws you rounds in a battle so its pretty much worthless to purchase rounds. They should of made the normal play called easy and notched up the toughness a little bit. But in today's day of advanced computers and seasoned programmers, why they still make such extremely linear games is beyond me. I was bored with it after about three hours of play, so I just powered through as fast as I could and beat it in 7 total hours. There is little replay worthiness for me. +Good storyline
    +Good atmosphere
    +Vigors

    Cons:

    -Booker
    -Enemy AI
    -Stupid save system
    -Same human models everywhere
    -Not challenging at all

Conclusion: Yes, this is a very descent singleplayer FPS but doesn't even get close to the Half-Life series or first game of Bioshock franchise. It's truly overrated and overwhelmed but still an enjoyable game for most people.

It's a good game, it really is well made and I would agree the story is well crafted and complex. But.
It just didn't stick with me, I couldn't relate to any of the characters as much as other people did. I didn't really like Elizabeth, the male main character (forgot his name) was alright, not too special. The two characters I liked the most were the brother and sister.

Gameplay was rather good too. But, it just was a bit too cluttered and complex (in a weird, "too much" kind of way). Ending was a bit surprising, but I figured something like that must've been going on.
Meh, I liked Bioshock 1 a whole lot better.

It is in the same universe, so to say, but the setting and atmosphere are so different. That's not necessarily bad, but when the atmosphere changes from what Bioshock 1/2 had to Infinite's explosions and bullets, I find that to be a tiny step in the wrong direction. Luckily, it wasn't a big step. Expand

quite good. Like many off the other critiques out there, I have to agree and say that bioshock infinite has very beautiful and extremely detailed graphics and an intricate story line that has created a new universe for fans to read and think about. Although others seem to have loved every aspect of this game, I just couldn't get into it. I felt that my abilities and health did not give me enough of the invincibility feeling while playing through the game and as a result, a lot of the gameplay had to be taken out of the equation. For example, I couldn't charge into a battle and melee everyone to death anymore because enemy guardsmen/soldiers actually do a lot of damage in the game. And there's also the fact that the special enemies such as handymen and the fire-bomb-throwing-guardsmen were extremely fast and annoying. On the plus side however, it is impossible to not fall in love with Elizabeth while you are playing the game. I mean she throws ammo at you when you're low and conveniently finds first aid packs when you need healing. She can get annoying however because during certain scenes in the story she gets angsty or flighty and you have to chase after her whiny ass to get accomplish your mission goals. Expand

While I overall enjoyed my experience playing Bioshock Infinite, it is highly overrated by critics and as such has blinded the gaming community. The fact that combat is the least enjoyable part AN FPS shows that something went wildly wrong here. The story is somewhat interesting but not enough to excuse the gameplay which is a total slog. Only The Line and Ultima 7 got away sacrifice all else on the alter of story and this is no The Line and definitely no Ultima 7.

This is a very good game. The story is great and does most things right. It doesn't force you through long and, for some, boring story-bits to much and let's you delve deeper into the backstory by collecting bits and pieces if you so desire. This deserves a green vote and would have gotten higher from me if the controls were a bit more fluent. I really do love the concept behind the mechanics but do feel that they could feel a bit more...free. Where a game like Just Cause 2 made you feel really agile this game is a bit more towards Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines (a game worthy of a 10 score due to the story alone) in that you sometimes wish you could do stuff that your character seem like it should be able to. I should be able to lean around corners, jump over certain restrictions and feel a bit less clumsy.

One thing that should be mentioned is that this game deals a great deal with the issue of race and racism, from what I've seen so far (after a long night of playing) they deal with it in a very compelling way.

The game is thrilling, the progression is intriguing and the story is engrossing. If you at all like the trailer, go play it!

The weapons were pretty generic with just weird names trying to make them sound like they were different from an assault rifle, grenade launcher, sub-machine gun, or sniper rifle...which they're not. Looks are the only thing that separate this game from others. The world looks pretty good but not good enough to give it an extra point in score. So as a summary, this game is a normal shooter with couple different mechanics and a good story. Giving it the score it deserves, I give it a seven. Expand

An incredibly over rated sequel in one of the greatest series of all time. Sure, the graphics were greatly increased but beyond that infinite was just a pretty looking fps with some new tricks. The story was fulfilling but still did not meet my expectations. overall the game was okay but felt dumbed down and simplistic when related to bs1 and bs2. good, but certainly not great. 7/10 7.5An incredibly over rated sequel in one of the greatest series of all time. Game mechanics are pretty fun and the story chases along a plot that chases along metaphysical possibility. The game is really short (7hrs easy) and very linear, with the side quests (which usually just involve running backwards through level already void of enemies) being rarely worth your time and rare. Biggest complaint is short gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioshock Infinite is a text-book example of "Sequelitis". It's a good game, and I definitely enjoyed every minute of it, but there wasn't much that really impressed me, and nothing that brought back the awe from the original game. Pretty much every aspect is average. Nothing great, and not much that's broken. The environment looks fantastic, but when you fill it with people, it really loses a lot of its luster. Animations are clunky at best, and aside from Elizabeth's facial expressions there wasn't much to discern the general population from the robots hanging off of the vending machines scattered about Columbia. Combat tends to drag on sometimes, and it would have been nice to see some fights that involved a little more than pumping bullets into people or lighting them on fire all the time. The soundtrack generally manages to capture the time period, voice acting is acceptable, and most of the weapons have a pretty satisfying report when fired. All that said, I do have two MAJOR complaints about BSI, and both are spoilers. The first is the act involving locating the gun-maker. That entire sequence made absolutely no sense, and jumping through Elizabeth's rifts was little more than an incredibly cheap way to accelerate the story. It almost feels like there was more planned, but the developers had to replace it all with a few convenient "alternate realities" that were quickly forgotten about once the act was over. The other issue were the fights with Lady Comstock's ghost. All three or four fights were little more than spending every last bullet in your inventory shooting at zombies that were instantly resurrected the moment you dropped them. I don't know if there was another way to do the fight, but I had to eventually just ignore the peons (which would lead to my health dropping in record time) and just dump everything I had into the actual boss. It wasn't fun, it was just a string of aggravating combat sequences that clashed horribly with the mostly fun battles from the rest of the game. Overall though, I liked BSI. It wasn't great, and there were some moments I wanted to throw my computer through a wall, but I did enjoy it. Definitely a good rainy Saturday title. Expand

The game is definitaly not bad. But after seeing all the great reviews I had really high expectations for the game and left the game kind of unsatisfied. The best thing is Elizabeth, one of the few not only cool, but also useful characters. Now to the badThe game is definitaly not bad. It is repetitive, too easy, and seems kind of "yesterday". The other thing which I really didn't like is the lack of replayability. The story keeps you invested in the game but once you know what is going to happen it simply becomes loses all of its appeal.
All in all I can say Bioshock Infinite is a good game, it is not a waste of your time, but in my opinion is way overhyped.

Play BSI slowly, relish the moments and don’t rush to the end. It’s certain that you will have lived one of the richest gaming experiences that, as far as narration, lyricism and story are concerned, will take a lot of time to forget! [May 2013]

A very solid, but not revolutionary shooter in an amazing setting, with a story that struggles to convey its authors’ ambitions and is only seemingly complex. The vision is less focused than in previous Bioshocks and it does a worse job on binding the plot with gameplay. [CD-Action 05/2013, p.46]

Problematic plotting and excessive amounts of poorly balanced combat apply friction to what is otherwise one hell of a rollercoaster. [May 2013, p.80]
