Bionic Bay is my new favorite in a genre I rarely enjoy, captivating me with its setting, unique mechanics, and fun physics system. With a competitive speedrunning mode alongside its 12-hour campaign, you’re sure to find something to enjoy in this standout title.

This is a game that hands you a hammer in the first thirty seconds, then introduces new and exciting nails for the next ten hours. A simple analogy, sure, but it works as beautifully as the game itself. Bionic Bay is one of those rare experiences that has such confidence in itself that it doesn’t need to muddy the water with bloat and uncertainty – it is precisely what it is, and what it is is excellent. Take a mystifying workplace accident, a rock solid visual identity and a hefty industrial soundscape, throw them together and serve on a bed of platforming mechanics that just refuses to quit.

It might not be the most memorable platformer of your life, but Bionic Bay remains a very high-quality experience in its offering, with an unusual artistic direction. We’ll also remember this instantly enjoyable gameplay, whether through the wacky situations created by the wobbly physics, the levels with just the right amount of sadism to make it fun, and above all, the satisfaction of clumsily overcoming obstacles with the tools at our disposal. A light little interlude that is quite pleasant despite its small flaws, all in all.

Bionic Bay is inspired by old puzzle platformers with it's art style and level design but brings a modern touch with innovative physic mechanics and more active movement. They've essentially merged Mario-type movement with Limbo-stle level design. No point in Bionic Bay is dull but it still somehow drags on a little too long.

Overall though, Bionic Bay is a triumph. It’s a masterclass in environmental storytelling, minimalist design, and mechanically rich platforming. It respects your time, rewards your curiosity, and most importantly, it feels incredible to play. Whether you’re here for the art, the puzzles, or just the vibes, there’s something truly special about this game. For fans of Inside, Black The Fall, or Planet of Lana, this is an easy recommendation—but even if you’re new to the genre, Bionic Bay is a great place to start.
