Lucid Dreams Studio's Biomorph is a solid Metroidvania that should definitely scratch the itch for any fan craving more from the genre, and with a neat Kirby gimmick to boot. Its strong platforming and level design elevate Biomorph's otherwise straightforward approach to the genre, while its main issues mostly come from a desire to see the game do more with its concepts. Despite some lacking elements that do take away from the overall experience, there is nothing here that stops Biomorph from being an easy recommendation in a genre already filled with great releases.

Biomorph offers a visually appealing aesthetic with strong character design, but its narrative falls flat and its soundtrack lacks originality. Despite solid gameplay mechanics, including an interesting enemy transformation feature, the game struggles with repetitive level design and contradictory gameplay elements. Biomorph may appeal to hardcore fans of the metroidvania genre, but it fails to fully capitalize on its potential.

I wanted to like Biomorph more than I did. Despite good visuals and a strong start, it eventually neglects its most interesting mechanic and becomes tedious. In the end, despite its best efforts, it ends up being just an average attempt at an already crowded genre.

BIOMORPH itself sometimes seems like a goop of cyborg dogs and ghostly farmers: cool ideas stitched together, lumbering about in search of more purpose than “find and reactivate four generators.”
