The art style and story are the best part of the experience, creating a creepy abandoned atmosphere in the style of the old cartoons. My issues come with the gameplay as the puzzle segments are a bit dull with not too many scares occurring while the action sections are just repetitive with each encounter mainly consisting of a cycle of hitting the enemy and then running after taking too much damage. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone interested in the atmosphere rather than the actual gameplay. Expand

Bendy and the Ink Machine before had been a good game, I just recently played the full thing again on steam and I cannot say the same. The atmosphere and the horror are done well the first time around but afterwards you know where every single bit is and the horror just becomes frustrating after a while because it stops you in it's way.

The atmosphere and the horror are done well the first time around but afterwards you know where every single bit is and the horror just becomes frustrating after a while because it stops you in it's way.

The graphics make the game pretty much unplayable on most hardware without turning down all graphical settings to "very low" being in the sense that it makes your game look terribly limited. You can only run this game on a gaming computer with okish framerates I'd assume. It wasn't an issue for me but it did let me down a bit.

The gameplay is ok too. The game is an action-puzzle game so obviously you're going to have to solve puzzles and what not, but all the puzzles have the same main objective which is opening something, which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for the fact that it's pretty much a fetch quest. You have to collect parts to open a gate, or you have to do something to trigger something. The combat and movement also do somewhat suck, camera controls are obviously sluggish and the combat system is really frustrating if there's a ton of baddies on you at once. (butcher gang, im talking to you) Otherwise it's still somewhat frustrating because each weapon deals the same amount of damage and there's no real strategy other than swing at the enemy, I also noticed there's no sort of real "new" enemies that are casual rather than the minibosses you face in the game. I think it's pretty much fine, but more enemy variety would be nice.

Also, the game is VERY short for the $19.99 price tag. Only buy this game when it's not full price as it'll let you down with the amount of content in the game. It's actually laughable on how little content there is.

All I'll say is, the game is ok. It's not bad and it's still fun to play, but there's no objective to the game other than solving mindless puzzles and being battered by enemies left and right. 6/10 game.

    Visuals - 5/10 - (Average)
When it comes to the game's visuals, Bendy and the ink machine can offer your absolutely great character design, but besides that, the game falls flat, pretty much every location of the game is made of wood and has that yellow filter to it, you rarely see a change in locations and everything looking the same can be pretty disorienting and you will probably get lost quite often.
The game also doesn't support 21:9 monitors, leaving you with those annoying black bars.

    Gameplay - 5/10 - (Average)
The gameplay is one of the game's biggest sins, the character speed is awfully slow, even when sprinting, which gets really annoying considering that you might get lost quite a bit. I would say that having combat in a horror game might make it less scary, which is true in this case, but besides having combat it is really slow and boring, you just go around bonking enemies until they die. The horror is based on loud noises and cheap jumpscares, at no moment you will feel scared, especially after knowing that you can just bonk whatever is trying to scare you.

    Story - 6/10 - (Fine)
The Story is pretty simple and easy to follow until you get to the end and the game tries to make the ending open-ended. The main character's voice acting is abysmal, but memos and Alice have great voices and easily overshadows the mc. Just don't expect too much from it, the real stars of the game are the character (except the main character).

I have played this game 4 times in my life (once on PC, once on Mobile (Android), and twice on PlayStation. The 1st 3 times were when I was really young and going into my middle/high school life but now times have changed, I'm in my senior year now and I think this game isn't that good and I'll explain why with 3 simple problems that I think drown this game and the franchise as a whole. First, regardless of how many remasters and updates are given, Chapters 1 & 2 are still very short and don't set the mood for the rest of the game. I mean by this is that these two chapters don't have any replay value, are very simple, and offer no challenge. I remember the 1st chapters more early versions better than the final version as it felt cheap and really gave an eerie vibe to the game that just isn't present in the final game anymore. Second, the game sometimes just decides to glitch out whenever and wherever it feels such as text not rendering properly, flashing curtains, the game crashing multiple times, clipping through objects, self-locking the game, broken AI, and just overall not funny and distracts me from the game too often. To be fair, a lot of these issues are coming from Chapter 5 and the console versions however that does not excuse the lack of updates and patches to fix these issues. As far as I can tell, none of the game's versions have been updated past 2019 and probably never get fixed. Which brings me to the 3rd point of this game, lack of credit given to the community. If you've watched a lot of interviews about the game and how it was made, you would know that the claim the two main devs (theMeatly and Mike Mood) gave during the early days of the game's life, they had the whole story planned out from the beginning however back in 2018 (I think), Mike Mood went onto a podcast to share that wasn't the case. In said podcast, Mike states "We only really knew the beginning and the end of the game. Everything else was made as we went along". This really sucks because me and a lot of other members in the community had our theories about the game when the game wasn't finished and they we're releasing the game chapter by chapter however it turns out that the game was never made to be theorized on in the 1st place. If we had known that was gonna be the case, we would have waited patiently and turn our attention to other games and it gets worse when talking about Chapter 3. I still think Chapter 3 is the best out of all 5 but as it turns out, the story was not planned at all and the team had instead taken suggestions from the community (likely from fan theories) to build their story which is fine but you need to at least credit them which they did not do. And that is why I think the game isn't that great. If you like it, that's fine but for me personally, I do not. Anyways, I'm just gonna go play something else. Peace out. Expand

The vision behind Bendy and the Ink Machine is so absurdly coherent that soaking in the game’s atmosphere is pure pleasure. It’s a shame that the overall impression suffers from repetitive gameplay and – from time to time – boredom. [02/2019, p.52]

Bendy And The Ink Machine is a beautiful, dark tribute to old-school animation. Its explore and puzzle adventure surprises the player in every chapter with new mechanics based in hide & seek and stealth. Its compelling story is an allegory to workaholism.
