Apr 15, 2024Beat Slayer’s core mechanic is good. As long as players stay on the beat and mix and match their attacks, kicks, and dashes, they can deal with a wide array of enemy combinations. The game also has a good variety of upgrades for Mia and two extra weapons to unlock. This futuristic version of Berlin is interesting, although her sidekicks can be a little forgettable. The title’s rogue-lite implementation does not impress, which is disappointing considering the opportunities for innovation its universe offers. Boss battles also lack the excitement of normal arenas. Beat Slayer has good music, a strong main concept, and is welcoming to newcomers while delivering a challenge for action-rhythm fans.

Apr 15, 2024It’s super fun, engrossing, punchy and just absolutely awesome. I give this game an 8.5/10 With super minor flaws like the story and characters, but this still absolutely skyrockets to one of my favorite roguelikes out there!

Apr 4, 2024For roguelike fans with rhythm, Beat Slayer will no doubt prove to be a bit of a treat. It has a beautiful art style, a soundtrack that will get your foot tapping, and gameplay that draws you in and holds your attention like a vice. It perhaps doesn’t do anything new or original outside of incorporating a rhythm element, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Just put some headphones on, start a new run and enjoy busting up some robots to the beat.

If you ever wondered what an electronica take on Hades would look like, then come kick Deitrich’s ass in Beat Slayer.

Apr 1, 2024Beat Slayer is Hades meets Hi-Fi Rush and it lives up to its name of slaying some brilliant tunes. A superb art direction blended with intense, frenetic rogue-like action and a pumping techno soundtrack make this a mixtape worth digging out the headphones for. It’s not a perfect record, owing to a lighter story and the odd combat quirk, but it’s one worth having in the collection.

May 28, 2024Energetic and outspoken protagonist Mia and her trusty pair of headphones are slaying thousands of mindless robots to the beat, just to finally reach the ominous Dietrich, who is making people into literal disco zombies by blasting his own sounds. But beweary, because This synths heavy rhythm-based adventure will not only test your fingers and ears, but your patience and determination too. So just remember to STAY ON BEAT!

Apr 9, 2024Beat Slayer is a game that falls short in some areas. I don't think it goes far enough in establishing its unique setting and the characters are just people you want to tune out after a while. With that said, I enjoyed the game on the whole. It's not a game that's good for long sessions, especially if you get particularly far in a run and have that adrenaline balloon get popped to send you back to the very beginning. For short sessions, however, it's got solid enough combat and a strong enough soundtrack to make it worth touring this robot-filled dystopia.

Apr 3, 2024I have no doubt in my mind that I’ll return to the synthesised tunes of Beat Slayer, albeit in a sporadic fashion; as compelled as I am to keep playing, I can’t see me spending day after day replaying it. Beat Slayer thrives on being played in short, energetic bursts. But no matter how long I go between another run, I will always be a slave to the rhythm.

Apr 2, 2024If you’re looking for a new rogue-lite to sink your teeth into, Beat Slayer offers an excellent rendition of the genre, with the rhythm-based combat only elevating it further. I’d have liked to have seen a little more innovation in the game’s upgrade system, and the character work here falls a little sub-par of what I’d expect in a game like this.

Apr 8, 2024A very interesting attempt to combine a hack’n’slash with a rhythm game. The mechanics of striking enemies to the beat work great, but Beat Slayer disappoints by artificially dragging out playtime, which results in a series of monotonous, identical battles.
