May 11, 2026Battlestar Galactica Scattered Hopes is a wonderfully engaging work in its own right on top of being one of the most holistically smart video game adaptations in history. I am tremendously impressed by it and cannot recommend it to fans of the series enough.
-
May 11, 2026There’s solid gameplay, but it’s a grind to find anything encouraging when everything is going wrong all the time, which does fit the IP and experience. And life in general, I suppose. So say we all.

May 11, 2026Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes tests how well you hold up under the pressure of command by forcing you to play a game of whack-a-mole against endless waves of Cylon attacks, political crises, and ethical dilemmas that threaten to tear your fleet apart from within while you're simultaneously putting out both literal and metaphorical fires. Neither the pausable real-time combat nor the turn-based strategic management phases are about winning outright so much as they are about escaping without taking too many losses and making the best of bad situations, which keeps tensions high. It's not visually spectacular, but it does have a style that feels true to the BSG series. And like any great roguelike, its random upgrades and ever-escalating challenge modifiers have no trouble justifying another run even dozens of hours in, after you've seen each crisis story play out multiple times.

May 11, 2026Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is an excellent adaptation of the franchise as a whole, as well as a very good FTL-style game. It features all the standout elements of the TV series, combined with original and well-designed gameplay. The battles are intense, but so are the management phases, and there’s easily enough content to keep you busy for dozens of hours. Boredom does eventually set in, though, since the battle format and crises don’t change up enough. But for a fairly modest, low-priced game, it remains a genuine success, and you can’t help but relaunch a space adventure every now and then with great pleasure.

May 13, 2026Battlestar Galactica: Shattered Hopes faithfully recreates the feel of the show, with intense combat and interesting decision-making between dogfights.
-
May 11, 2026Ultimately, Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes succeeds because it grasps precisely which aspect of the series truly deserved to be adapted into a game: the arduous struggle of holding together a community in flight. The fleet management system works precisely because it forces you to live with the consequences of what you leave behind. Its limitations become apparent when crises and points of interest lose their element of surprise, when factions exert less influence than promised, and when the heroes remain more functional than memorable. However, the game is bolstered by a generous mechanical framework: diverse Gunstars, randomized abilities, varied enemies, distinct builds, a Compendium, and permanent bonuses lend real substance to its replayability—even when the narrative component begins to tread along paths that have become all too familiar. It is neither the most spectacular adaptation of Battlestar Galactica, nor the most consistent: when it focuses on risk, timing, and compromise, Scattered Hopes can be truly compelling; yet, when it relies too heavily on the repetition of its scenarios, it remains a solid, intelligent space roguelite—albeit one that is less surprising than it could have been.

May 12, 2026Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is an interesting concept, but it falls short of finding the sweet spot between challenge and choice.
