This is a great game, it have had some launch issues but those are temporary, it's not a perfect game (hence the score of 9) but IMO it's one of the best FPS games released lately, as long as EA gets the whole server issues under control it will be an absolutely awesome game. It is more an arcade then a simulator for sure, not something for the super hardcore simulator player I think.

Although the system requirements are fairly high, anything bought/build in the last year with a decent GPU (8800 and up for nVidia users) will be fine. As for the game itself, it absolutely rocks. There are a few multiplayer connection issues at present, but they are being fixed (as it stands, all I have to do is maybe click "Join" a few times before it actually works, no big deal). Destructible environments make all the difference. If people claim MW2, they are absolutely wrong. When you never know if the building you are in is about to fall down on your head (P.S. - watch out, they do.), it forces you to move around a lot more. This is NOT a game for campers. This game has got to be one of the most realistic war games I've ever played. Although, the spawning is horrible, you have to unload a full magazine to kill some one. (If you aim for the torso.) The Controls are fairly easy, and being able to fly helicopters is truly satisfying. TLR gives this a 10/10

Destroyability of the environment makes the game actually alot of fun and you thinking twice about using that thin wooden fence as cover for too long. You can blow huge holes into houses and even totally destroy them, killing everyone inside. Gameplay is fluid, weapons are imho balanced and there's a ton of combination of weapons, gadgets, spec items and native class abilities. There's four classes: Medic (LMG+healing), Recon (Sniping+Mortar Strikes+Detecting Enemies), Assault (Grenade Launcher/Ammo) and Engineer (Rocket Launcher/Mines/Repairing). IMHO all of those are fun to play, and if you're bored with one class weapon types, you can always pick some weapons that everyone can use, like shotguns and some rifles. All in all a very addictive title for people that like Multiplayer. Havent looked into the single player yet, but I think you shouldn't buy the game if that's the only thing you're going to play. Noob Tubes are perfectly acceptable as they aren't as ludicrous as MW2's, knifing is realistically presented, gun recoil and mechanics are wonderfully done (The whole burst-firing, as it applies a lot better to Real-Life Expectation). And guess what the game actually makes camping seem acceptable, it really does. It doesn't piss you off as compared to those at MW2's game mechanics. But this game isn't very friendly to those who are new to the battlefield style of gameplay. Especially if you were born from the user friendly MW fields. Though in time you'll get used to it as any other game. Point being this game has a moderate learning curve. So don't be frustrated from having little kills compared to your high number of deaths. Use your head and don't rush, teamwork leads to VERY NOTICABLE success. Oh and enjoy flying a helicopter on PC, very DIFFERENT learning curve.. My other "Complaint," seems a little minor on weapon damage, I don't mind that players take a much larger amount of bullets compared to MW, but it is more focused on weapon damage differences. Such as the machine gun and the pistols. Apparently a handgun is very much more capable of causing more damage than a chunky machinegun. I understand that this still quite balanced and doesn't bother the game at all. But I find very unusual. Enough of DICE's excellent multiplayer, for singleplayer well if you bought it just for singleplayer you'll be disappointed for a short campaign with a slightly awkward story. Though the game was mainly focused for multiplayer and that's where the re playability is set in for. Singleplayer is just for kicks. Simple as That. That's it to sum it up, this is a fantastic game and DICE did a wonderful job on polishing it. It is a definite buy and a solid recommendation from me. @Trevor I own $500 Custom-Built Computer that runs this fine at Medium settings. - HD Radeon 4830 - Athlon 64x2 7750 2.7 GHz (Though I unlocked it into a Quad) - 4 GB DDR2 RAM Running on a 1680x1050 24 Inch HD monitor. Very Solid on Medium Highish, only sluggish on absolute High. Though you're right about the minimum requirements. This game basically runs near at Crysis standards. Though you need to check your "Fairly-Powerful," computer as is it extremely budget and insignificant for these times. 8600 GT will simply NOT do the job. Expand

This game is near perfect. The more you play this game the more you can tell how much attention the developers payed to detail. The class system is nothing new but they took it to the next level. Each class has it's purpose and perks. Spotting is a never before seen feature but makes perfect sense to the gameplay. Each thing you do to help your team award you points. GET THIS GAME!

I highly recommend this to fans of modern first person shooters. The sprawling maps are beautiful, the combat is excellent and well balanced, and you get a great feeling inside when, though it happens once every hundred times you try, you snipe the driver of a helicopter right out of his seat. If your computer is too old to run this game, upgrade your computer!

This game has everything an FPS should have: teamwork, vehicles, destructible environments, and of course, guns. The single-player is great and the multiplayer is addictive. The only thing that I'm bothered with is the slow server browser and the server errors once in a while, but the next few patches should be able to fix them. Props to DICE and EA for such a awesome game!

I would have given it a 9 because of the unfortunately glitch in single player mode where your ai buddies just stand around for no reason instead of following or continuing on until you hit the next checkpoint that triggers them to warp to you and the cutscene plays... It's pretty annoying because it happens kind of a lot. If my rating was just based on the single player I'd I would have given it a 9 because of the unfortunately glitch in single player mode where your ai buddies just stand around for no reason instead of following or continuing on until you hit the next checkpoint that triggers them to warp to you and the cutscene plays... It's pretty annoying because it happens kind of a lot. If my rating was just based on the single player I'd have to say 7 just because of that bug because it's pretty game breaking sometimes. For example, I'm stuck in one of the latter missions because though all the enemies are dead in an area it won't trigger my team or the game to continue so that I can walk down into this valley instead it keeps telling me I can't go that way and I'm stuck. Blech... Anywayz, the multiplayer is where this game shines. First off... this isn't a crap console port. That alone means that us PC gamers can fully enjoy all that our gaming rigs can manage. We spend a healthy wad of cash to keep our rigs up to snuff I'm sick and tired of having a rig that has to puke out a console port at half the graphics beauty/physics/gaming ai and depth of environment (Metro2033) that it is capable because ghetto consoles can't hack it. The gameplay is awesome - beautiful control, realism, DEDICATED servers... imagine that... dedicated servers unlike CODMW2 hello? This game is obviously not built to cater to crappy consoles and then ported to PCs but the other way around as it should be... and even if it wasn't designed with PC as priority it sure as heck seems like it and what you have is genius gameplay where if you have the rig you can have a graphical masterpiece where AI is SMART and you can see detailed models for miles... rock and debris from explosions falling to your feet and sound changes that reflect your environment perfectly. If you have less of a machine you can scale back on graphics and it's still beautiful - they've really perfected the scaling ability so that you still have a wonderful looking, smart ai having wicked fun game. It's Battlefield at its best. A really well-done game. Should seriously start playing this over CODMW2 - you won't regret it. I don't understand how mass effect 2 can have a higher rating... except that it must be consolers voting more or that the editors that vote are in the console gaming industry's pocket because this is a better game. Less movies and more playing. Seriously... can we get out of the console gaming industry's pocket to give appropriate reviews because I'm tired of relying on the editors' votes to find that I'm stuck with yet another lackluster crap console port. My PC was built with hard earned money - Bad Company 2 delivers so that it is well-worth it. Thank you DICE! Expand

If you choose to randomly spawned you will often end up directly in front of someone, only to die and wait another 10 seconds to join again. This can happen many times in a row. It also seems like they see you before you spawn, like there's a delay between when you appear and when you can move.

That being said, I only play squad deathmatch. I've tried the other gametypes, where you have to take and control objectives. The matches are extremely one-sided. You will get killed over and over and over again. It might be fun to play them with a buddy, but it's just not for me.

Now here's the Major negative. The game says it's XP compatible. What they don't say is that it doesn't work on XP-64 bit. It took a few hours of digging through forums before I found this out. It doesn't say anywhere that XP-64 is not supported when you go to buy the game. That is false advertising and should not be tolerated by the gaming community. It isn't even legal. I don't know how they get away with that.

I've been playing this game for years. I just recently picked it back up after upgrading my system to modern standards. Obviously, it rips through this game like a beast, though DX10 is still inappropriately taxing. Whatever, it doesn't matter. Anyway, you simply won't find a multiplayer experience better than this one. I think BC2 is better than both BF3 and BF4. To be fair, EA deleted my BF3 account because it had a different screen name than my BC2 account. There was no appearance of impropriety on my part - they just wanted me to have only one PC EA account. They essentially wiped over a year of BF3 progress, so I stopped playing the game. That likely colored my opinion of BF3.

But I digress...BC2 is awesome. The game control feels a lot better than that presented in both BF3 and BF4. In the latter two, I always felt like my character was a little drunk or high or something. He seemed to lag when aiming down the sights, and pretty much everything else for that matter. The squad system is great, and is pretty identical to that in BF3/4. The weapon upgrade system is great. It gets pretty tough to get promotions once you get into 30s, however, that might be my fault.

The graphics and sound are great. The maps are huge. Hit detection is top notch. Even when you feel like the odds are totally stacked against your team and you scarcely stay alive for more than 10 seconds, there's always another angle or kit to play that will provide you the edge you need to not only survive, but thrive. I highly recommend this game to any person who's a fan of FPS multiplayer games.

The people who gave this game a 0 are just CoD fanboys. This game immerses you in the battle, to the fullest extent. tactical thinking is required, not just fast reflexes (unlike SOME contemporary InfinityWard titles). if you stop shooting your extremely realistic gun for just a few seconds and look forward and up at the sky for a little bit, you see what real soldiers see: mortar shells falling from the sky, anti-aircraft fire being thrown back up at the sky, helicopters demolishing enemy infantry and armor, or ironically being shot down by that same infantry and armor. snipers are laying down suppressing fire on the enemy team, vehicles and helicopters are skirmishing with each other or moving towards new targets. stray shots, from rifle or cannon, are flying around, hitting whatever they can find. after staring at such destruction and war with awe, your senses come flying back to you and you immediately take cover, supporting your teammates in their attempt to move forward on the front, or moving forward yourself. you might be repairing a tank, or driving one. you could be laying down fire from a Blackhawk helicopter's mounted miniguns, or shooting down that same helicopter in a gunship. you might be calling in a mortar strike, skirmishing with an enemy squad, outnumbered 4 to 1, or attempting to take out a hidden enemy sniper in a battle of not only aim, but of wits. you could be advancing in a quad bike, or suppressing enemies with a Humvee's 50. cal. i give it a 9 because EA couldn't maintain the servers for a full week to save their life, and the singleplayer campaign. is a pile of sh*t. But its cost today of roughly 20 bucks on Steam makes it an ENORMOUSLY good purchase idea. If you are wondering if you should get it or get MW3, GET THIS GAME! MW3 is a royally screwed piece of crap compared to this game. at one-third the price of MW3, its the deal of a lifetime. i would buy this game for $70. Expand

The multiplayer is not too dissimilar to Bad Company, albeit a few minor improvements and some more game modes. It's a lot easier to find action now even on 8 player servers in Squad Deathmatch. Impressive, considering the scale of the maps. You'd almost be lucky to get away with not being spawn killed. I'm still personally divided over the Battlefield concept. On one hand, the graphics, big maps, vehicles, sense of teamwork and simulating realism make every kill satisfying, every win earnt, every point of XP rewarding. But on the other hand, I rarely die in a gun-on-gun firefight knowing that I died because I deserved it- because a mistake was made. Deaths feel so random due to the large maps and the nature of spawn points. That said, the game has a strange, addicting allure to it. The class-based multiplayer and progression/unlock system does make it a bit unfair on new players who don't have all the best weaponry and upgrades, but the game is still playable and balanced for the most part. This game does what many people want in an FPS- as close to realism as possible but without making the game unplayable. For that, it deserves credit. As for the campaign, it is very much similar to Bad Company 1 but with less emphasis on large-scale battles and more focused on variety of environments. The campaign is fairly linear, lacking ambition and the plot is almost non-existent. Overall, if you can't afford a supercomputer to run Battlefield 3 but want something just like it, you can't go wrong with BC2. There are lots of servers and people playing it, and the campaign isn't great but worth playing if you're bored. You just have to be patient with the multiplayer to start enjoying it. The multiplayer makes use of rewarding you for staying loyal to one of four classes, with upgrades and some iteration of perks. While it's still easy to understand what you're doing in the battlefield, the game could do a better job of explaining the unlock progression. Perhaps Bad Company 2's greatest achievement is its uncomprimising combination of stunning graphics, wide variety of maps and modes and gives the player incentive to play to unlock new gear and rank up. The game is rewarding, yet for such a demandingly hardcore and realistic shooter, it's remarkable that one can enjoy this game after a short period of game time online. By its very nature, teamwork is promoted and feels satisfying. The title of the game is Battlefield, yet you can take a break from long-range, vehicular combat in Rush and engage in more hectic, seemingly arena-based mix of free-for-all with teams in Squad Deathmatch. Whatever the case, Bad Company 2 does nearly everything well. Certainly it differentiates itself from other shooters but still implements some of the conventions of modern shooters without losing its identity. Expand

The destruction is very well done, it looks great! There are a lot of vehicles to drive the other faction has completely different designs for the vehicles. The game play is great for a FPS shooter. Everyone is balanced, even a level 50 is easy to kill because they are not overpowered. The only things they get is new guns and items which only help a little bit. The spawning is great, you rarely get spawn camped unlike Call Of Duty where you sit and get spawn killed. The squad is fun and great, playing with friends or public is extremely fun, conquering flags, killing players, shooting vehicles down, riding tanks, flying helicopters. It's so much fun! The destruction: If you shoot a building with a rank or shoot RPGs, rockets, grenade launchers, etc it will break windows, doors, fences, objects, and blow holes into the building, after the building has enough damage, it falls Vehicles also have parts to come off if hit in certain spots, such as the tank. When the tank is hit on the side, the armor plating falls off, if hit in the back, the parts on the rear parts fall off, etc. All vehicles are balanced, the 4x4 is fast but weak, the jeep is useful for traveling and shooting down helicopters and shooting players quickly and running them over, a tank is useful for destroying buildings and killing players, helicopters are good against tanks and are good for destroying players and buildings. There are also stationary weapons and sea vehicles that add on to the wonderful experience. Almost everything about this game is good. The 1 element that is missing though is customization, you can't change your color, you can't select your face or helment or armor or anything like that, although all characters look different. Overall I give it a 9, the game is very close to perfect. Expand

This game has only two advantages. Cool the engine and high-quality multiplayer. Everything else here to see prices at the secondary level. By the end of the game you start to miss (especially the last level). But damn! How can you not go past the building and smash it to hell!

I bought this game after EA's stupid Origin failed to let me buy battlefield 3, so I took the latest battlefield on Steam. Team play is the best I have ever found. 32 players are enough to fill a battlefield but teams are not too large so you can get to know the players.

Solid core gameplay and servers with rules that prevent annoying kid's tactics (like way too many recons, camping and base-raping) provide awesome gameplay experience. Not to mention well balanced weapons and vehicles.
Graphics are good, not amazing (textures are rather low-res), and yet you'll have so much fun playing it you wouldn't notice.
Let's hope next BF is BC3...
of course this is a MULTIPLAYER review. Singleplayer was boring and the story is messy and confusing. Got bored after 2 hours (and I'm rather patient.)

bottom line worth those 30$. Go buy it.

Very fluent playing experience..I should not say that this is another COD clone, but it was absolutely influenced by COD series..An impressive one..Except for a few moments when there was not enough instructions on your UI and may lead you to repeating frustrating deaths..but after all, it's a brilliant game..DICE has shown their potential in developing an FPS game in another way..

Time in game as of this review: 172.9 hours according to Steam.

I'd recommend this game, but it has some major problems. 1. WAY WAY too much smoke and dust clouds. Even a short spray of bullets will cause a cloud of dust that takes awhile to disappear, even when you shot at something like a window frame, wall corner, door frame, etc. 2. The vehicles suck, for the most part. 3.

    3. No option for team deathmatch, only Squad Deathmatch. (4 teams of 4 against each other)

    4. No option for free for all deathmatch.

    5. Every Squad Deathmatch map has one tank that continues to spawn. It's annoying and wasn't a good choice of vehicle for Squad Deathmatch. Humvees or 4-wheelers would have worked better. Maybe a few boats on the maps that have water.

    6. Only sniper rifles can be equipped with a sniper scope.

    7. Heli control(s) suck, and minigun control (that the heli's are equipped with) also suck.

    8. Way too few maps for Squad Deathmatch option, and the maps for the other gametypes are often large with not enough buildings/cover/good landscape for a battle. Why not just spawn us all in an open field?

    9. Extreme lack of good urban environment maps.

    10. This is one of the worst things about the game. Accuracy is ridiculously crappy when you aren't looking through your sights/optics. You can fire at a stationary guy 20 feet away and maybe get 3-6 out of 30 of your shots to actually hit him. If you need to be looking down your sights to get more than 1/10-1/5 accuracy from 20 feet away, then you probably shouldn't be anywhere near a battlefield. In real life if I was shooting from that distance, every one of the those shots would have met their target. Seeming as how most of the assault rifles used by assault class are chambered in 5.56mm, they should by little to no issue with recoil. The game's designers, however, thought that it best to give rifles chambered in 5.56mm the accuracy and recoil of an automatic shotgun being fired by a small child with Muscular Dystrophy.

    11. This one isn't as big of a deal to me, but there's no option to go prone.

And, it's weird, but I play this game more than I play Battlefield 4, because, even though Battlefield 4 is fun, it just lacks an aspect that BC2 has, and that is immersion. Whenever I'm playing BF BC2, I always feel like I'm in the battlefield. The soldier that you control actually has weight and I dare say that the sound design in this game is better than BF4's one. And, of course, the shooting is great and the weapons are very well designed. Also, the maps are beautifully designed too, and they are really fitting for epic gunfights. The vehicles are varied and very useful for all the classes. And, unlike BF3 and BF4, this game features an actual organic single-player that's really interesting, even though it's definitely not perfect. Do I recommend it nowdays? Yes... and no. It has a great single-player, but the multiplayer isn't the most populated and is slightly dead, to say at least, even though there are hundreds of people playing the game. But hundreds isn't enough. Superb map design with some like Heavy Metal or Port Valdez, but too small and CQC oriented with pthers, which i hate cuz BF for me means wide open battlefields with smaller sections meant for CQC battles, not entire maps. Not the biggest fan of rush mode since nowa days its filled with players who use aim bots making impossible to win a battles as attacking team. Punk Buster also can be a major pain the butt by kicking you out from the game and crashing it or even introducing performance issues like screen flickering.

Theres still people who play this in 2016, you can find decent amount of full servers at times, but if youre playing too good theres so many butthurt admins who take you for a cheater and ban you from servers that have most player traffic. Which when done too many times will leave you playing by yourself.

The audio balancing is pretty bad, especially obvious when using a headphone. I can hear my own footsteps only on the right side. There are some glitchy ragdolls, but nothing game breaking. Some of the stages are very annoying, especially when dealing with helicopters.

I got a very terrible screen-tearing issue with the game, but enabling v-sync will cause a very noticeable input lag, so I will have to compromise for this.

Singeplayer: It's not as good as BC1 but much better than any other BF singleplayer. The plot is easy to follow, creative, and well written.

Map design: they were designed exclusively for Rush which made most of them not very good experiences on conquest. The theme chosen for the maps were excellent and were used again for future maps in sequent titles.

Core gameplay: classes were much more different than before but were very balanced because each had notable strengths and weaknesses. The vehicle-infantry balance was good despite a common misconception of overpowered attack choppers.

Pitfalls: certain multiplayer mechanics are unbalanced (eg. Gustav + Explosive perk, Circle strafing choppers), but it's the most fun I had with a BF game. I've played it as recently as 2017 and had quite a bit of fun, but the servers are mostly dead by now.

It is not the first Battlefield game I played: I already played Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 - but it is the first Battlefield campaign I played and after completing CoD:MW trilogy not so much time ago I was really curious how the BF stands against its main rival in terms of single-player experience. To keep it short - it stands pretty well but it is not that simple. The story itself is lackluster in comparison to Modern Warfare (which is not surprising considering the scale CoD went for in the MW trilogy so there is no shame in being inferior to one of the best first-shooter campaigns ever) but in all the other aspects BC2 shines brighter: the graphics are more realistic, shot sounds are more pleasant to hear, the shooting overall just feels better - add to that vehicles you can actually get in and complete freedom to destroy anything you want (a house, a tower, a tree - you name it) and you get a decent rival for MW3 which was released around the same time.

  1. The new single-player mode isn’t that interesting, but the multi-player part is fantastic. With new destructable environments and new game modes Bad Company 2 is the best Battlefield game so far.
  2. Do you like first-person shooters? If the answer is yes, buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If there's a weakness it lies in the slightly brief single-player campaign, but the brilliant, potentially Modern Warfare 2 beating multiplayer more than picks up the slack.

Though it occasionally stumbles, there's one thing that Bad Company 2 clearly demonstrates: DICE has graduated from the, "can only do a multiplayer FPS" class, and is perfectly capable of making a great all-around game.
