The description on the box boasts "vast battlefields" and "wide open warfare" when actually the usable map areas are more a medium to small size and are designed to funnel players into predictable choke points which grows very tiresome after only a few short weeks of play. Each map has it's own favorite repetitive sniper spot(s) where you'll often find between 3 - 10 snipers doing 'their' thing instead of anything resembling helping out their teammates or attempting to help win a round, which when you consider there's only 16 players per side can be quite frustrating for those trying to complete objectives. A lot of the time multiplayer matches turn out to be just another 'sniper match' with 80% of players choosing the sniper class and hanging back sniping. With that many snipers on the field standing still and staying alive for more than a few seconds is almost impossible. Realism is definitely not what this game has set out to achieve, killing people with short ranged shot guns from ridiculously long distances is quite common place as is snipers with silenced fully-automatic sniper rifles taking on assault class soldiers at close range and coming out on top. The single-player campaign also has something to offer but just like the multiplayer, it's short lived. Good fun for a few weeks, nothing ground breaking. Expand

Noob Tubes are perfectly acceptable as they aren't as ludicrous as MW2's, knifing is realistically presented, gun recoil and mechanics are wonderfully done (The whole burst-firing, as it applies a lot better to Real-Life Expectation). And guess what the game actually makes camping seem acceptable, it really does. It doesn't piss you off as compared to those at MW2's game mechanics. But this game isn't very friendly to those who are new to the battlefield style of gameplay. Especially if you were born from the user friendly MW fields. Though in time you'll get used to it as any other game. Point being this game has a moderate learning curve. So don't be frustrated from having little kills compared to your high number of deaths. Use your head and don't rush, teamwork leads to VERY NOTICABLE success. Oh and enjoy flying a helicopter on PC, very DIFFERENT learning curve.. My other "Complaint," seems a little minor on weapon damage, I don't mind that players take a much larger amount of bullets compared to MW, but it is more focused on weapon damage differences. Such as the machine gun and the pistols. Apparently a handgun is very much more capable of causing more damage than a chunky machinegun. I understand that this still quite balanced and doesn't bother the game at all. But I find very unusual. Enough of DICE's excellent multiplayer, for singleplayer well if you bought it just for singleplayer you'll be disappointed for a short campaign with a slightly awkward story. Though the game was mainly focused for multiplayer and that's where the re playability is set in for. Singleplayer is just for kicks. Simple as That. That's it to sum it up, this is a fantastic game and DICE did a wonderful job on polishing it. It is a definite buy and a solid recommendation from me. @Trevor I own $500 Custom-Built Computer that runs this fine at Medium settings. - HD Radeon 4830 - Athlon 64x2 7750 2.7 GHz (Though I unlocked it into a Quad) - 4 GB DDR2 RAM Running on a 1680x1050 24 Inch HD monitor. Very Solid on Medium Highish, only sluggish on absolute High. Though you're right about the minimum requirements. This game basically runs near at Crysis standards. Though you need to check your "Fairly-Powerful," computer as is it extremely budget and insignificant for these times. 8600 GT will simply NOT do the job. Expand

This is definitely the best FPS I've played since BF2. The only thing I can complain about so far is the missing ability to lay down (you can only crouch)... That's why it gets 8 instead of 9 out of 10. Hopefully EA will add that feature... Other than that, its a really entertaining game, and not as expensive as MW2 was.

The weapon mechanics are better than a lot of games today however at the same time they're extremely flawed in some areas (Example: Shotgun= Sniper, 2 shot kill from any range...) and overall I can't say they're as good as other tactical shooters like STALKER or ARMA II. It's biggest downfall is how dumbed down it is compared to the previous battlefield titles. Weapons do a lot less damage and everything is overly simplified. The class setups are pretty illogical and hurrendous, again they probably assumed console gamers don't think too much and won't care, but it really takes away from gameplay. Medics with LMGs is just stupid, it's not cool, it makes no sense and doesn't feel or work well in game. Assault's ammo-boy role is equally senseless and feel's wrong. Finally, there's the balance issues which again are more or less because the game is aimed towards consoles: since when were AT weapons cheap and overpowered vs infantry in battlefield series? Well they are now. Giving medic class the LMG and accuracy compensation for lack of prone has made them overpowered and as a utility class it leads to things like full teams of medics in certain modes. A lot of cheap, imbalanced things exist in this game. In the end it's pretty graphics, unique gameplay, and half-decent shooting mechanics keep it afloat but it's nothing like PC games used to be. If you get into it and find a nice clan you may get a little over 100 hours overall, after that I'd say the flaws will start to shine a lot more and the appeal will ware off. Expand

DICE have said that they are looking at the balancing, but looking at their history, it's doubtful that all problems will ever be fixed. It's pretty annoying because it happens kind of a lot. If my rating was just based on the single player I'd have to say 7 just because of that bug because it's pretty game breaking sometimes. For example, I'm stuck in one of the latter missions because though all the enemies are dead in an area it won't trigger my team or the game to continue so that I can walk down into this valley instead it keeps telling me I can't go that way and I'm stuck. Blech... Anywayz, the multiplayer is where this game shines. First off... this isn't a crap console port. That alone means that us PC gamers can fully enjoy all that our gaming rigs can manage. We spend a healthy wad of cash to keep our rigs up to snuff I'm sick and tired of having a rig that has to puke out a console port at half the graphics beauty/physics/gaming ai and depth of environment (Metro2033) that it is capable because ghetto consoles can't hack it. The gameplay is awesome - beautiful control, realism, DEDICATED servers... imagine that... dedicated servers unlike CODMW2 hello? This game is obviously not built to cater to crappy consoles and then ported to PCs but the other way around as it should be... and even if it wasn't designed with PC as priority it sure as heck seems like it and what you have is genius gameplay where if you have the rig you can have a graphical masterpiece where AI is SMART and you can see detailed models for miles... rock and debris from explosions falling to your feet and sound changes that reflect your environment perfectly. If you have less of a machine you can scale back on graphics and it's still beautiful - they've really perfected the scaling ability so that you still have a wonderful looking, smart ai having wicked fun game. It's Battlefield at its best. A really well-done game. Should seriously start playing this over CODMW2 - you won't regret it. I don't understand how mass effect 2 can have a higher rating... except that it must be consolers voting more or that the editors that vote are in the console gaming industry's pocket because this is a better game. Less movies and more playing. Seriously... can we get out of the console gaming industry's pocket to give appropriate reviews because I'm tired of relying on the editors' votes to find that I'm stuck with yet another lackluster crap console port. It plays out well on these maps and its actually good you don't run into hopelessly huge enemy groups. Destroyability of the environment makes the game actually alot of fun and you thinking twice about using that thin wooden fence as cover for too long. You can blow huge holes into houses and even totally destroy them, killing everyone inside. Gameplay is fluid, weapons are imho balanced and there's a ton of combination of weapons, gadgets, spec items and native class abilities. There's four classes: Medic (LMG+healing), Recon (Sniping+Mortar Strikes+Detecting Enemies), Assault (Grenade Launcher/Ammo) and Engineer (Rocket Launcher/Mines/Repairing). IMHO all of those are fun to play, and if you're bored with one class weapon types, you can always pick some weapons that everyone can use, like shotguns and some rifles. All in all a very addictive title for people that like Multiplayer. Havent looked into the single player yet, but I think you shouldn't buy the game if that's the only thing you're going to play. Great addition to the Battlefield series and a massive improvement over Bad Company 1. My comment is mainly to undo any misconceptions brought about by Trevor" Firstly Min specs of the game clearly state that you need at least a 7800. It's optimised just fine the only problem is that there's too much volumetric smoke covering everywhere. Saying that it's bad because you can't run it with your old ass pc is like me complaining about PS3 games because I only own a toaster. Expand

First of all, I have to comment on Trevor giving the game a 1. You do not have a "fairly powerful computer". The GT8600 is a piece of trash and should not even be sold. Buy some decent hardware and try playing the game. Don't bash the game cause you don't have the computer to run it. Buy a console and don't come back. If you have a couple of friends to play with, you're gonna have a blast. Expand

Don't make the mistake of comparing this game to MW2 or Flashpoint. It's neither of those. What it does do extremely well though is create a feeling of involvement through the sound and graphics, as well as the destroyable surroundings. Combine that with very decent gameplay, a nice mix of abilties, weapons and classes and very few balance issues and the result is a very nice game. It was released with too many issues for comfort, but the most recent patch seems to have solved most of these issues. Well worth the money. Expand

  1. The new single-player mode isn’t that interesting, but the multi-player part is fantastic. With new destructable environments and new game modes Bad Company 2 is the best Battlefield game so far.
  2. Do you like first-person shooters? If the answer is yes, buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If there's a weakness it lies in the slightly brief single-player campaign, but the brilliant, potentially Modern Warfare 2 beating multiplayer more than picks up the slack.

Though it occasionally stumbles, there's one thing that Bad Company 2 clearly demonstrates: DICE has graduated from the, "can only do a multiplayer FPS" class, and is perfectly capable of making a great all-around game.
