The description on the box boasts "vast battlefields" and "wide open warfare" when actually the usable map areas are more a medium to small size and are designed to funnel players into predictable choke points which grows very tiresome after only a few short weeks of play. Each map has it's own favorite repetitive sniper spot(s) where you'll often find between 3 - 10 snipers doing 'their' thing instead of anything resembling helping out their teammates or attempting to help win a round, which when you consider there's only 16 players per side can be quite frustrating for those trying to complete objectives. A lot of the time multiplayer matches turn out to be just another 'sniper match' with 80% of players choosing the sniper class and hanging back sniping. With that many snipers on the field standing still and staying alive for more than a few seconds is almost impossible. Realism is definitely not what this game has set out to achieve, killing people with short ranged shot guns from ridiculously long distances is quite common place as is snipers with silenced fully-automatic sniper rifles taking on assault class soldiers at close range and coming out on top. The single-player campaign also has something to offer but just like the multiplayer, it's short lived. Good fun for a few weeks, nothing ground breaking. Expand

Noob Tubes are perfectly acceptable as they aren't as ludicrous as MW2's, knifing is realistically presented, gun recoil and mechanics are wonderfully done (The whole burst-firing, as it applies a lot better to Real-Life Expectation). And guess what the game actually makes camping seem acceptable, it really does. It doesn't piss you off as compared to those at MW2's game mechanics. But this game isn't very friendly to those who are new to the battlefield style of gameplay. Especially if you were born from the user friendly MW fields. Though in time you'll get used to it as any other game. Point being this game has a moderate learning curve. So don't be frustrated from having little kills compared to your high number of deaths. Use your head and don't rush, teamwork leads to VERY NOTICABLE success. Oh and enjoy flying a helicopter on PC, very DIFFERENT learning curve.. My other "Complaint," seems a little minor on weapon damage, I don't mind that players take a much larger amount of bullets compared to MW, but it is more focused on weapon damage differences. Such as the machine gun and the pistols. Apparently a handgun is very much more capable of causing more damage than a chunky machinegun. I understand that this still quite balanced and doesn't bother the game at all. But I find very unusual. Enough of DICE's excellent multiplayer, for singleplayer well if you bought it just for singleplayer you'll be disappointed for a short campaign with a slightly awkward story. Though the game was mainly focused for multiplayer and that's where the re playability is set in for. Singleplayer is just for kicks. Simple as That. That's it to sum it up, this is a fantastic game and DICE did a wonderful job on polishing it. It is a definite buy and a solid recommendation from me. @Trevor I own $500 Custom-Built Computer that runs this fine at Medium settings. - HD Radeon 4830 - Athlon 64x2 7750 2.7 GHz (Though I unlocked it into a Quad) - 4 GB DDR2 RAM Running on a 1680x1050 24 Inch HD monitor. Very Solid on Medium Highish, only sluggish on absolute High. Though you're right about the minimum requirements. This game basically runs near at Crysis standards. Though you need to check your "Fairly-Powerful," computer as is it extremely budget and insignificant for these times. 8600 GT will simply NOT do the job. Expand

This is definitely the best FPS I've played since BF2. The only thing I can complain about so far is the missing ability to lay down (you can only crouch)... That's why it gets 8 instead of 9 out of 10. Hopefully EA will add that feature... Other than that, its a really entertaining game, and not as expensive as MW2 was.

The weapon mechanics are better than a lot of games today however at the same time they're extremely flawed in some areas (Example: Shotgun= Sniper, 2 shot kill from any range...) and overall I can't say they're as good as other tactical shooters like STALKER or ARMA II. It's biggest downfall is how dumbed down it is compared to the previous battlefield titles. Weapons do a lot less damage and everything is overly simplified. The class setups are pretty illogical and hurrendous, again they probably assumed console gamers don't think too much and won't care, but it really takes away from gameplay. Medics with LMGs is just stupid, it's not cool, it makes no sense and doesn't feel or work well in game. Assault's ammo-boy role is equally senseless and feel's wrong. Finally, there's the balance issues which again are more or less because the game is aimed towards consoles: since when were AT weapons cheap and overpowered vs infantry in battlefield series? Well they are now. Giving medic class the LMG and accuracy compensation for lack of prone has made them overpowered and as a utility class it leads to things like full teams of medics in certain modes. A lot of cheap, imbalanced things exist in this game. In the end it's pretty graphics, unique gameplay, and half-decent shooting mechanics keep it afloat but it's nothing like PC games used to be. If you get into it and find a nice clan you may get a little over 100 hours overall, after that I'd say the flaws will start to shine a lot more and the appeal will ware off. Expand

DICE have said that they are looking at the balancing, but looking at their history, it's doubtful that all problems will ever be fixed. It's pretty annoying because it happens kind of a lot. If my rating was just based on the single player I'd have to say 7 just because of that bug because it's pretty game breaking sometimes. For example, I'm stuck in one of the latter missions because though all the enemies are dead in an area it won't trigger my team or the game to continue so that I can walk down into this valley instead it keeps telling me I can't go that way and I'm stuck. Blech... Anywayz, the multiplayer is where this game shines. First off... this isn't a crap console port. That alone means that us PC gamers can fully enjoy all that our gaming rigs can manage. We spend a healthy wad of cash to keep our rigs up to snuff I'm sick and tired of having a rig that has to puke out a console port at half the graphics beauty/physics/gaming ai and depth of environment (Metro2033) that it is capable because ghetto consoles can't hack it. The gameplay is awesome - beautiful control, realism, DEDICATED servers... imagine that... dedicated servers unlike CODMW2 hello? This game is obviously not built to cater to crappy consoles and then ported to PCs but the other way around as it should be... and even if it wasn't designed with PC as priority it sure as heck seems like it and what you have is genius gameplay where if you have the rig you can have a graphical masterpiece where AI is SMART and you can see detailed models for miles... rock and debris from explosions falling to your feet and sound changes that reflect your environment perfectly. If you have less of a machine you can scale back on graphics and it's still beautiful - they've really perfected the scaling ability so that you still have a wonderful looking, smart ai having wicked fun game. It's Battlefield at its best. A really well-done game. Should seriously start playing this over CODMW2 - you won't regret it. I don't understand how mass effect 2 can have a higher rating... except that it must be consolers voting more or that the editors that vote are in the console gaming industry's pocket because this is a better game. Less movies and more playing. Seriously... can we get out of the console gaming industry's pocket to give appropriate reviews because I'm tired of relying on the editors' votes to find that I'm stuck with yet another lackluster crap console port. Destroyability of the environment makes the game actually alot of fun and you thinking twice about using that thin wooden fence as cover for too long. You can blow huge holes into houses and even totally destroy them, killing everyone inside. Gameplay is fluid, weapons are imho balanced and there's a ton of combination of weapons, gadgets, spec items and native class abilities. There's four classes: Medic (LMG+healing), Recon (Sniping+Mortar Strikes+Detecting Enemies), Assault (Grenade Launcher/Ammo) and Engineer (Rocket Launcher/Mines/Repairing). IMHO all of those are fun to play, and if you're bored with one class weapon types, you can always pick some weapons that everyone can use, like shotguns and some rifles. All in all a very addictive title for people that like Multiplayer. Havent looked into the single player yet, but I think you shouldn't buy the game if that's the only thing you're going to play. I have a machine that runs this like a dream, and it DOESN't cost that much to build a machien to run it well despite other reviews I'd read, but ultimately the feeling of firing 22 rounds against people all in bfull body armor just takes away from any remotely realistic feeling.....this has more in common with HALO, or team fortress, cosole games may like it.....but the fact it has gotten so many good reviews, has me questioning if anyone in teh industry have ever fired a weapon, gone hunting, much less ever been in the military. Which can get pretty tiresome, at some points I felt like I was playing a shoot-em-up game, most of the game is just kill all enemies at point A, defend point B, then go kill everybody at point C. The best parts of the campaign were where you were doing something differant, like flying the UAV, calling air strikes, or sniping in the thunder. If only there was more of that, it would really have made a good campaign. But it really just is something you just wanna get completed as fast as possible, just to find out what happens. Some of the parts were kinda predictable, yet I was surprised a few times. I actually enjoyed dying as part of the campaign, that was actually a nice turn of events. But would ofcourse have liked being back in WW2 a bit longer. An other thing that makes the singleplayer campaign good is that it isn't solo, you actually got some team mates. Which really was nice, having team mates with you all the time is really a positive thing for singleplayer, the standard just-meet-with-NPCs-in-cinematics thing was getting old. The multiplayer is generally fun for a fair amount of hours. Personally I think the differance between the standard weapons and the final unlocks is too big. But ofcourse for people like me, you can just enjoy killing people with the standard weapons and than brag about being better than everybody else for not using your unlocks. Also I was very disappointed at the lack of any (mayor) infantry only mode. Vehicles are cool and all, but unless your engineer (or a lucky recon) you don't stand a chance against vehicles. But the mayor downturn of the multiplayer is punkbuster, expect to go through a lot troubles just to get in-game. And don't be surprised to see a cheater in a punkbuster secured server. It's a fun game, and I'll definitely keep playing it for a while. But I honestly can't imagine any mayor community left in a year. Expand

As much as i disliked MW2 and the "you will walk down this path" game play i feel that MW2 does the single player better than BC2. Infact BC2 plays more like Frontlines Fuel of War, which isn't too bad as i really enjoyed that game, but then i only payed £5 for that game. That's not to mention occasional graphical glitches, sound glitches, random deaths from mortars as you run for the canal on one level. It's too short as well. No, the multiplayer is where this game excels. Think BF2 with great graphics and effects but without the pot luck aiming system. The rolling map design, where new areas open as you achieve objectives is inspired. The game play is fluid, fun and quite tense at times. It's very enjoyable, apart from the disconnects just as you hit your best kill streak!!!. Still i'm sure that will be fixed soon lol. I would recommend this game on multiplayer only. I would have preferred it if they had modelled the single player on BF2 as well, with bots replacing people on an essentially multi player experience. If they had done that it would have been a 10. As it is the Multiplayer is designed by experts, the Single player by rookies. Very disappointing. Single player = 5, Multiplayer = 10. Expand

I can recall many times when it seems like an endless flow of your guys and their guys are running around a single capture point. It gets really fun. However, this excellent gameplay is marred by some of the most buggy login systems ever. You have to make an EA account to play online (which is linked to your CD key to prevent key sharing) but EA's servers cannot support the server load that Bad Company 2 is obviously having. It's so immersive and realistic, not to mention the incredible effort it must have taken to polish it off. It's really impossible to explain how fun this game is - the singleplayer is somewhat short but memorable and challenging. Besides, Bad Company 2 is multiplayer-oriented... Modern Warfare 2, as we all know, is not. Expand

Amazing game! The story and singleplayer play is very good, not quite up there with Modern Warfare 2 only because the levels are designed to scale so you can fly over it, use vehicles, as well as destructible buildings. You know that feeling, when you spent 50 bucks on a piece of shit? I hate that feeling, so if you hate it too, please avoid this game at all costs. Multiplayer is a joke, you can't tie your key with steam, you'll find glitches and issues up your ass each time you start up this game. garbage.

Awesome multiplayer when it runs smoothly, but like others have said this game is in need of some serious optimization. For most people with dual core computers it runs slowly even on the lowest settings. Connection problems abound, but EA assures us they are being worked on. Being a BF2 veteran and having skipped BC:BF1 for obvious reasons I was excited for this release. And while it does deliver on some fronts, it leaves a lot to be desired on others. The Not-so-Good: Noticed quite a few no-clips in SP campaign and a few in MP, hit boxes seem wonky with shotguns. Can shoot down/through concrete but can't shoot through thin sheet metal walls... The Bad: LOOONG loading times for Server Browser for which you can only do "full" refresh and no "quick" refresh, poor communication mechanics for a "team/squad-based" game, tons of drops and disconnects from Punkbuster/EA Online and server-side issues. I was delightfully surprised at how well this game captured the feeling of Battlefield 2 and mixed in destructible environments. I unfortunately however like many other players have been experiencing ridiculous amounts of connection issues with the EA master server on top of the usual errors with punkbuster that any DICE games usually comes with. If you have played the battlefield series, you will know that the games always have a rocky release and are then subsequently patched and balanced. When it works, oh boy does it ever. I'd be playing right now except that the master server won't let me connect to anything. Expand

Amazing game, hands down one of the best online experiences I've had recently. This is what modern warfare 2 should've been, gentlemen. Dedicated servers, little to no lag, good class balance, teamwork. It's all here!

Amazing graphics, and certainly the best sound of any game ever. Singleplayer is short and sweet. Multiplayer is very teamwork oriented, which I absolutely love. Seems very very balanced for all weapons, classes and vehicles. Maps are very replayable, and the destructability doubles this. Great game!

BC2 is a great first person shooter! This is the type of game the PC gamers have been waiting to be released. And better yet it has the option for dedicated servers! Great game play, squad play is fun and exciting. Maps are large and with great detail. GAME OF THE YEAR!

VERY fun game to play and the graphics and sound are amazing with a decent system and multiplayer promotes teamwork ans squad tactics which is what I like. The rough launch is why I gave it a 9 instead of a 10, I know DICE pretty well so I'm confidence they'll have the problems fixed soon.

It has been a long time since i got angry about a game, but i cant believe i wasted my money on this steaming pile of ****. It has a lot of cool concepts, but its gameplay mechanics are terrible, punkbuster is a pos, it has massive fps issues, and takes 10 mins to find a server that will let you connect to. go get MW2.

  1. The new single-player mode isn’t that interesting, but the multi-player part is fantastic. With new destructable environments and new game modes Bad Company 2 is the best Battlefield game so far.
  2. Do you like first-person shooters? If the answer is yes, buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If there's a weakness it lies in the slightly brief single-player campaign, but the brilliant, potentially Modern Warfare 2 beating multiplayer more than picks up the slack.

Though it occasionally stumbles, there's one thing that Bad Company 2 clearly demonstrates: DICE has graduated from the, "can only do a multiplayer FPS" class, and is perfectly capable of making a great all-around game.
